3:1
Next, I think you most desire to hear about their not worshiping God in the same manner as the Jews.
Now the Jews, insofar as they abstain from the kind of worship described above, rightly claim to revere one God of all and to acknowledge him as Master; but insofar as they offer him this worship in a manner like those described above, they go astray.
For the very things which the Greeks present to senseless and dumb idols, thereby giving proof of folly, these same things the Jews offer to God as though he had need of them; and they should rather reckon this to be foolishness, not religion.
For he who made the heaven and the earth and all that is in them, and who supplies to us all the things we need, can himself have need of none of those things which he provides to those who imagine they are giving to him. But those who think to offer him sacrifices through blood and burnt fat and whole burnt offerings, and to honor him by such gifts, seem to me to differ in nothing from those who display the same eagerness toward dumb idols—the one offering to things unable to partake of the honor, the other thinking to give to him who has need of nothing.
