"My toils have driven me out." [That is:] wretched and miserable pursuits.
「我的勞苦將我驅逐。」即那些邪惡而困苦的行徑。

"And my blood [be] upon the Chaldeans who dwell [there]."

"And bring them down." Either the prophet prays this against the demons, or God also commands this to be done in his vengeance against both the sense-perceptible and the intelligible Babylon.

"How she has been taken!" The saints are astonished at the fall of Babylon and [her] desolation.

"They became [a waste]." The affairs of state of the kingdom.

"And in Babylon." In the sense-perceptible [reading], the spoils which formerly, in her victories, she took from her enemies.
「且在巴比倫。」按字面而言,指她從前戰勝敵人時所奪取的戰利品。

Πρὸς δὲ διάνοιαν, ὅτι κατέπιεν ὁ θάνατος ἰσχύσας
But according to the [spiritual] sense, that death, having prevailed, swallowed [them] down.

Καὶ πάλιν . ἀφεῖλεν ὁ Θεὸς πᾶν δάκρυον ἀπὸ προσώπου τῆς γῆς
And again: "God has taken away every tear from the face of the earth."

Ἀνασωζόμενοι ἐκ γῆς. Οἱ τῶν γηΐνων, φησὶν, ἀποστάντες, ἀεὶ προκόπτετε εἰς ἀρετὴν, καὶ μὴ ἵστασθε, ἀλλὰ τρέχετε, ἵνα καταλάβητε
"Those being saved out of the land." [He means:] you who have departed from earthly things, he says, always advance in virtue, and do not stand still, but run, that you may lay hold [of the prize].
「從地上得救的人。」意即:你們這些已離棄地上之事的人哪,他說,要常在美德上長進,不可停滯,乃要奔跑,以致能得著[獎賞]。

Οἱ μακρόθεν. Οἱ πάλαι τοῦ Θεοῦ μακρόθεν εἰδωλολάτραι
"Those from far off." Those who formerly were idolaters, far off from God.
「那些從遠方來的人。」指那些從前遠離神、拜偶像的人。

Καὶ Ἱερουσαλήμ. Ἐν μὲν τῇ Ἱερουσαλὴμ ἔθυον Ἰουδαῖοι·
"And Jerusalem." In Jerusalem the Jews used to sacrifice—
「以及耶路撒冷。」猶太人素來在耶路撒冷獻祭——

κελεύει δὲ τὴν ὅρασιν τῆς εἰρήνης·
—but he now commands [them to go up to] the vision of peace—

—for this is what "Jerusalem" is interpreted [to mean]—

"Dishonor has covered [her]." According to the literal text, that the enemies entered into the divine temple—

—but according to the [spiritual] sense, that unclean demons have lodged themselves in the inner sanctuary of the soul.

"And she destroyed." According to the literal text: the polytheism [that spread] among men—

"And the gates." Those leading to destruction—

"They do not grow weary." Serving the Babylonian, or also error—
「他們不覺勞苦。」乃是服事那巴比倫王,或也可說是服事那迷惑——

—for the "not" applies in common [to both clauses]—

This one is said to be Baruch.

"And he blinded the eyes of Zedekiah." [In order] to make him labor at the mill.

Καὶ τὰς βάσεις. Δοχεῖον ἦν ὕδατος, διὰ τὸ πολυχώρητον θάλασσα καλούμενον
"And the bases." It was a receptacle for water, called "the sea" on account of its great capacity.

Καὶ τοὺς τρεῖς. Τοὺς ἐπιστάτας τῶν θυρωρῶν
"And the three." The overseers of the doorkeepers.

And the scribe. The one who kept the register of the levies, and of those who went out to war and came in from it.
及書記。指登記兵役名冊者,以及出征與返歸之人。

Κατακαύσας δηλονότι καὶ τὰ ἄλλα πάντα σκεύη τὰ ἱερὰ τὰ δυσκατακόμιστα
Having burned, evidently, also all the other sacred vessels that were hard to carry away.
顯然,他也焚燒了其餘一切難以搬運的聖器皿。

Τοσοῦτον δηλοῦται τὸ πάχος τοῦ στύλου
By this much is shown the thickness of the pillar.
由此可見柱子的厚度有多少。

Ἐν γῇ Ἡμάθ. Ἡμάθ ἡ νῦν καλουμένη Ἀντιόχεια·
In the land of Hamath. Hamath is what is now called Antioch.
在哈馬地。哈馬即今日所稱之安提阿。

Δεβλαθὰ δὲ τὸ ταύτης προάστειον ἡ Δάφνη
And Deblatha is its suburb, [namely] Daphne.
而德伯拉他則是安提阿的近郊,即達芙妮。

Ἔλαβεν Οὐλαιμαδάχαρ. Ἐπειδὴ δὲ οἱ αἰχμάλωτοι κάτω νεύουσιν ὑπὸ τῆς συμφορᾶς, ἔλαβε, φησὶ, τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ, ἀντὶ τοῦ, ἀνώρθωσεν, ὕψωσεν, ἄνω βλέπειν παρεσκεύασεν
Evil-merodach took [his head]. Since captives bow their heads down on account of misfortune, 'he took,' it says, 'his head,' instead of 'he set upright, lifted up, and made him look upward.'
以未米羅達舉起〔其頭〕。因被擄者由於遭遇不幸而垂首向下,故經文說「他取了他的頭」,意即「使之直立、舉高、令其得以仰視」。

Ἰδοὺ ὕψωσε κεφαλήν μου ἐπ' ἐχθρούς μου
Behold, he has lifted up my head over my enemies.
看哪,他已高舉我的頭,勝過我的仇敵。

Τὸ, ἔλαβεν ἀντὶ τοῦ, ὕψωσεν, ὡς ἐν τῷ τέλει τῆς τετάρτης τῶν Βασιλειῶν φησιν
The word 'he took' [is used] in place of 'he lifted up,' as it says at the end of the Fourth Book of Kingdoms.
