Ἔξωσάν με οἱ μόχθοι μου. Τὰ μοχθηρὰ καὶ ταλαίπωρα ἐπιτηδεύματα
「我的勞苦將我驅逐。」即那些邪惡而困苦的行徑。
"My toils have driven me out." [That is:] wretched and miserable pursuits.

Καὶ τὸ αἷμά μου ἐπὶ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας Χαλδαίους
「願我的血歸在那居住的迦勒底人身上。」
"And my blood [be] upon the Chaldeans who dwell [there]."

Ἀντὶ τοῦ, αἴτιοί μοι τῆς σφαγῆς οἱ Χαλδαῖοι γεγόνασιν
意即:迦勒底人成了我遭殺戮的緣由。
Instead of [meaning]: the Chaldeans have become to me the cause of [my] slaughter.

Ἐκδικήσω μου τὸ αἷμα ἀπὸ τῶν Χαλδαίων
「我要向迦勒底人為我的血伸冤。」
"I will avenge my blood upon the Chaldeans."

Καὶ ἔσται. Τὴν χορηγίαν τῶν κακῶν
「必要成就。」即那源源不絕供應而來的災禍。
"And it shall be." The supply of evils.

Ὅτι ὡς λέοντες. Οἱ βασιλεῖς αὐτῆς
「因為如同獅子。」指她的諸王。
"For like lions." Her kings.

Ἐν τῇ θερμασίᾳ. Ἐν τῇ αὐτῶν θρασύτητι
「在其熱氣中。」即在他們的狂妄之中。
"In [their] heat." In their insolence.

Δώσω πότημα αὐτοῖς. Τουτέστι τὴν ἀνταπόδοσιν τῶν κακῶν

"I will give them a drink." That is, the recompense of [their] evils.

Καὶ καταβίβασον αὐτούς. Ἢ ὁ προφήτης τοῦτο ἐπεύχεται κατὰ τῶν δαιμόνων, ἢ καὶ Θεὸς τῇ ἐκδικήσει τοῦτο ποιεῖν προστάσσει κατὰ τῆς αἰσθητῆς τῆς νοητῆς Βαβυλῶνος
「求你使他們降下。」或是先知在此祈求攻擊眾鬼魔,或是神也在報應中吩咐如此行,以攻擊那可感覺的與那可理解的巴比倫[即歷史上的與靈意上的巴比倫]。
"And bring them down." Either the prophet prays this against the demons, or God also commands this to be done in his vengeance against both the sense-perceptible and the intelligible Babylon.

Πῶς ἑάλω. Ἐκπλήττονται οἱ ἅγιοι ἐπὶ τῇ πτώσει τῆς Βαβυλῶνος καὶ ἐρημώσει
「她怎樣被攻取了!」聖徒們為巴比倫的傾覆與荒涼而驚駭。
"How she has been taken!" The saints are astonished at the fall of Babylon and [her] desolation.

Ἀνέβη ἐπὶ Βαβυλῶνα ἡ θάλασσα. Ἐπὶ μὲν τὴν αἰσθητὴν Βαβυλῶνα, τὸ πλῆθος τῶν πολεμίων·
「海水湧上攻擊巴比倫。」對於那可感覺的(歷史上的)巴比倫而言,指的是敵軍的大隊人馬——
"The sea has come up against Babylon." Against the sense-perceptible Babylon, [this signifies] the multitude of enemies—

ἐπὶ δὲ τὴν νοητὴν, τὸ λουτρὸν τῆς παλιγγενεσίας, τὸ ἐξαφανίζον τὴν ἁμαρτίαν
——而對於那可理解的(靈意上的)巴比倫而言,則指那使罪徹底消除的重生之洗。
—but against the intelligible [Babylon, it signifies] the washing of regeneration, which utterly blots out sin.

Ἐγενήθησαν. Τὰ τῆς βασιλείας πολιτεύματα
「都變為……。」即那王國的政制事務。
"They became [a waste]." The affairs of state of the kingdom.

Καὶ ἐν Βαβυλῶνι. Αἰσθητῶς μὲν τὰ λάφυρα, ἂ πρώην νικῶσα τοὺς πολεμίους ἐλάμβανε
「且在巴比倫。」按字面而言,指她從前戰勝敵人時所奪取的戰利品。
"And in Babylon." In the sense-perceptible [reading], the spoils which formerly, in her victories, she took from her enemies.

Πρὸς δὲ διάνοιαν, ὅτι κατέπιεν ὁ θάνατος ἰσχύσας
但按靈意而言,是指死亡得勝而將[他們]吞滅了。
But according to the [spiritual] sense, that death, having prevailed, swallowed [them] down.
1:1232
Καὶ πάλιν . ἀφεῖλεν ὁ Θεὸς πᾶν δάκρυον ἀπὸ προσώπου τῆς γῆς
又如經上再說:「神從地面擦去了一切眼淚。」
And again: "God has taken away every tear from the face of the earth."
1:1233
Ἀνασωζόμενοι ἐκ γῆς. Οἱ τῶν γηΐνων, φησὶν, ἀποστάντες, ἀεὶ προκόπτετε εἰς ἀρετὴν, καὶ μὴ ἵστασθε, ἀλλὰ τρέχετε, ἵνα καταλάβητε
「從地上得救的人。」意即:你們這些已離棄地上之事的人哪,他說,要常在美德上長進,不可停滯,乃要奔跑,以致能得著[獎賞]。
"Those being saved out of the land." [He means:] you who have departed from earthly things, he says, always advance in virtue, and do not stand still, but run, that you may lay hold [of the prize].

Οἱ μακρόθεν. Οἱ πάλαι τοῦ Θεοῦ μακρόθεν εἰδωλολάτραι
「那些從遠方來的人。」指那些從前遠離神、拜偶像的人。
"Those from far off." Those who formerly were idolaters, far off from God.
1:1235
Καὶ Ἱερουσαλήμ. Ἐν μὲν τῇ Ἱερουσαλὴμ ἔθυον Ἰουδαῖοι·
「以及耶路撒冷。」猶太人素來在耶路撒冷獻祭——
"And Jerusalem." In Jerusalem the Jews used to sacrifice—

κελεύει δὲ τὴν ὅρασιν τῆς εἰρήνης·
——但他如今卻吩咐[他們前往]「和平的異象」——
—but he now commands [them to go up to] the vision of peace—
1:1237
τοῦτο γὰρ ἑρμηνεύεται Ἱερουσαλήμ·
——因為這正是「耶路撒冷」一名所解的意思——
—for this is what "Jerusalem" is interpreted [to mean]—

ἀναβαίνειν εἰς τὰς τῶν πιστῶν καρδίας, ἵνα εἰρηνεύωσι πρὸς Θεὸν τὰ ἀρεστὰ αὐτῷ ποιοῦντες
——即上到信徒的心中,使他們藉行神所喜悅的事而與神和睦相處。
—[namely, to] go up into the hearts of the faithful, that they may be at peace with God, doing the things pleasing to him.

Κατεκάλυψεν ἀτιμία. Πρὸς μὲν τὸ ῥητὸν, ὅτι εἰς τὸν θεῖον ναὸν εἰσῆλθον οἱ πολέμιοι·
「羞辱遮蓋了她。」按字面經文而言,是指敵人進入了神聖的殿——
"Dishonor has covered [her]." According to the literal text, that the enemies entered into the divine temple—

πρὸς δὲ διάνοιαν, ὅτι εἰς τὰ ἄδυτα τῆς ψυχῆς ἔσκηψαν οἱ ἀκάθαρτοι δαίμονες
——但按靈意而言,是指污穢的鬼魔侵入了靈魂的至聖所。
—but according to the [spiritual] sense, that unclean demons have lodged themselves in the inner sanctuary of the soul.

Καὶ ἀπώλεσεν. Πρὸς μὲν τὸ ῥητὸν, τῆς ἐκ τῶν ἀνθρώπων πολυθεΐας·
「她毀去了。」按字面而言:即人間的多神信仰——
"And she destroyed." According to the literal text: the polytheism [that spread] among men—

πρὸς δὲ διάνοιαν, ὅτι ἀνέκραζον ἐκβακχευόμενοι ὑπὸ τῶν δαιμόνων
——但按靈意而言,是指他們被鬼魔驅使、如酒神狂歡般發出喊叫。
—but according to the [spiritual] sense, that they cried out, being driven into bacchic frenzy by the demons.

Τάδε λέγει Κύριος. Ὁ Σατανᾶς καθ' ὅλης τῆς οἰκουμένης τὰ τεμένη εἰδώλων ἱδρύσας
「主如此說。」撒但曾在普天下建立偶像的廟宇——
"Thus says the Lord." Satan, having established shrines of idols throughout the whole inhabited world—

Καὶ αἱ πύλαι. Αἱ ἀπάγουσαι εἰς τὴν ἀπώλειαν·
「以及那些門。」即那些通向滅亡的門——
"And the gates." Those leading to destruction—

τοῦτο δὲ τελείως γίνεται ἐν τῇ καθόλου συντελείᾳ
——而這事將在普世的終局完全成就。
—and this comes about fully at the universal consummation.

Οὐ κοπιάζουσι. Τῷ Βαβυλωνίῳ, ἢ καὶ τῇ πλάνῃ δουλεύοντες
「他們不覺勞苦。」乃是服事那巴比倫王,或也可說是服事那迷惑——
"They do not grow weary." Serving the Babylonian, or also error—

τὸ γὰρ, οὒ, κατὰ κοινοῦ κεῖται·
——因為「不」字乃共通適用於[前後兩句]——
—for the "not" applies in common [to both clauses]—

ὑπὸ τῆς ἀρχῆς τῶν Βαβυλωνίων τυραννούμενοι, ἢ καὶ τοῦ Σατανᾶ
——即被巴比倫人的統治所暴虐轄制,或也可說是被撒但所轄制。
—being tyrannized by the rule of the Babylonians, or also of Satan.

Ἐν γὰρ Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ πάντες ζωοποιηθήσονται
「因為在基督耶穌裡,眾人都要復活得生命。」
"For in Christ Jesus all shall be made alive."

Εἰπεῖν τῷ Σαραίᾳ. Ἔπεμψεν ὁ Σεδεκίας τὸν Σαρέαν πρεσβευτὴν, δῶρα κομίζοντα τῷ Ναβουχοδονόσορ
「對撒萊雅說。」西底家差遣撒萊雅作使者,攜帶禮物前往尼布甲尼撒那裡。
"To say to Seraiah." Zedekiah sent Seraiah as an envoy, bearing gifts to Nebuchadnezzar.

Οὗτος λέγεται εἶναι ὁ Βαρούχ
據說此人就是巴錄。
This one is said to be Baruch.

Ἱερεμίας πρὸς Σαραίαν. Οὗτος λέγεται εἶναι ὁ Βαροὺχ, κατὰ χάριν μετωνομασμένος
「耶利米對撒萊雅[說]。」據說此人就是巴錄,因蒙恩而被改了名字。
"Jeremiah to Seraiah." This one is said to be Baruch, renamed as an act of favor.

Θυγάτηρ Ἱερεμίου. Οὐ τοῦ προφήτου
「耶利米的女兒。」並非那位先知[的女兒]。
"Daughter of Jeremiah." Not of the prophet.

Παρθένος γὰρ ἱστορεῖται εἶναι ὁ προφήτης, ὡς κελευσθεὶς ὑπὸ τοῦ Θεοῦ μὴ γῆμαι
因為據記載,這位先知本是童身,因他曾奉神吩咐不可娶妻。
For the prophet is recorded to have been a virgin, since he was commanded by God not to marry.

而她的父親是立拿人,先知則是亞拿突人——
And her father was from Libnah, but the prophet [was] from Anathoth—

ταύτην εὑρήσεις καὶ ἐν τῷ τέλει τῆς τετάρτης τῶν Βασιλειῶν

—you will find her also at the end of the fourth [book] of Kingdoms.

Καὶ ἐλάλησεν αὐτῷ. Ἐνδίκως αὐτὸν ἔκρινεν, ὡς παραβεβηκότα τὰς ἐν τῷ θείῳ ναῷ ὁρκωμοσίας
「他就對他說話。」他公正地審判了他,因他違背了在神聖殿中所立的誓約。
"And he spoke to him." He judged him justly, as one who had transgressed the oaths [sworn] in the divine temple.

Καὶ τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς Σεδεκίου ἐξετύφλωσε. Ἐργάζεσθαι ἐν τῷ μύλωνι
「他挖去了西底家的眼睛。」為要使他在磨坊中做工。
"And he blinded the eyes of Zedekiah." [In order] to make him labor at the mill.

Καὶ τὰς βάσεις. Δοχεῖον ἦν ὕδατος, διὰ τὸ πολυχώρητον θάλασσα καλούμενον
「以及那些盆座。」那是盛水的器皿,因其容量甚大而被稱為「海」。
"And the bases." It was a receptacle for water, called "the sea" on account of its great capacity.

Καὶ τοὺς τρεῖς. Τοὺς ἐπιστάτας τῶν θυρωρῶν
「以及那三個人。」指看門者的長官。
"And the three." The overseers of the doorkeepers.

Καὶ τὸν γραμματέα. Τὸν ἀπογραφόμενον τὰ τέλη, καὶ τοὺς εἰσιόντας καὶ τοὺς ἐξιόντας εἰς τὸν πόλεμον
及書記。指登記兵役名冊者,以及出征與返歸之人。
And the scribe. The one who kept the register of the levies, and of those who went out to war and came in from it.

Κατακαύσας δηλονότι καὶ τὰ ἄλλα πάντα σκεύη τὰ ἱερὰ τὰ δυσκατακόμιστα
顯然,他也焚燒了其餘一切難以搬運的聖器皿。
Having burned, evidently, also all the other sacred vessels that were hard to carry away.

Τοσοῦτον δηλοῦται τὸ πάχος τοῦ στύλου
由此可見柱子的厚度有多少。
By this much is shown the thickness of the pillar.

Ἐν γῇ Ἡμάθ. Ἡμάθ ἡ νῦν καλουμένη Ἀντιόχεια·
在哈馬地。哈馬即今日所稱之安提阿。
In the land of Hamath. Hamath is what is now called Antioch.

Δεβλαθὰ δὲ τὸ ταύτης προάστειον ἡ Δάφνη
而德伯拉他則是安提阿的近郊,即達芙妮。
And Deblatha is its suburb, [namely] Daphne.

Ἔλαβεν Οὐλαιμαδάχαρ. Ἐπειδὴ δὲ οἱ αἰχμάλωτοι κάτω νεύουσιν ὑπὸ τῆς συμφορᾶς, ἔλαβε, φησὶ, τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ, ἀντὶ τοῦ, ἀνώρθωσεν, ὕψωσεν, ἄνω βλέπειν παρεσκεύασεν
以未米羅達舉起〔其頭〕。因被擄者由於遭遇不幸而垂首向下,故經文說「他取了他的頭」,意即「使之直立、舉高、令其得以仰視」。
Evil-merodach took [his head]. Since captives bow their heads down on account of misfortune, 'he took,' it says, 'his head,' instead of 'he set upright, lifted up, and made him look upward.'

Ἰδοὺ ὕψωσε κεφαλήν μου ἐπ' ἐχθρούς μου
看哪,他已高舉我的頭,勝過我的仇敵。
Behold, he has lifted up my head over my enemies.

Τὸ, ἔλαβεν ἀντὶ τοῦ, ὕψωσεν, ὡς ἐν τῷ τέλει τῆς τετάρτης τῶν Βασιλειῶν φησιν
「取」一詞乃代替「舉起」而用,如《列王紀四卷》末尾所言。
The word 'he took' [is used] in place of 'he lifted up,' as it says at the end of the Fourth Book of Kingdoms.
