Καὶ θήσω τὸν θρόνον μου ἐν Αἰλὰμ , καὶ ἀπολῶ ἐκεῖθεν βασιλέα καὶ μεγιστᾶνας , φησὶ Κύριος
'And I will set my throne in Elam, and I will destroy thence king and nobles,' says the Lord.
主說:「我要在以攔設立我的寶座,並要從那裡除滅君王和貴冑。」

Τὸ , θήσω τὸν θρόνον μου , ἀντὶ τοῦ , ἐκεῖ δικάσω , καὶ τὴν ψῆφον ἐξοίσω , οἷόν τισι δημίοις κε χρημένος τοῖς πολεμίοις
The phrase 'I will set my throne' stands for 'there I will judge and pronounce the verdict,' using the enemies as it were as executioners.
「我要設立我的寶座」這句話,意思是「我要在那裡審判並宣告判決」,彷彿以仇敵為行刑者一般。

And even now he has his throne there, this city too having been changed unto piety;

for he takes greater care of souls;

for this very reason he applies chastisements also to bodies.

Προλέγει τοίνυν τὴν τοῦ διαβόλου κατάλυσιν , καὶ ἀσεβείας τὴν παῦλαν , καὶ τὴν τῶν αἰχμαλώτων ὑπὸ τῆς ἁμαρ τίας γεγενημένων ἀνθρώπων ἐλευθερίαν
He foretells therefore the abolition of the devil, and the ceasing of impiety, and the freedom of men who had been made captives by sin.

Having obtained which, let us hymn the Giver thereof, and love the life of freedom, and abhor our former bondage;

Τὰ τοῖς ἄλλοις ἔθνεσι συμβησόμενα προθεσπίσας , τῆς Βαβυλῶνος λοιπὸν προλέγει τὸν ὄλεθρον
Having foretold what should befall the other nations, he next predicts the destruction of Babylon.
他既預言了那將臨到列國的事,接著便預告巴比倫的毀滅。

Ἀναγγείλατε ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσι , καὶ ἀκου στὸν ποιήσατε , καὶ ἐπάρατε σημεῖον·
'Declare among the nations, and make it heard, and lift up a signal;
「你們要在列國中宣告,使人聽見,並要豎起旗號;

ἀκου . τίσατε , καὶ μὴ κρύψητε·
make it heard, and hide it not';
要使人聽見,不可隱瞞」;

Ἐπειδὴ τὰς ἄλλας βασιλείας καταλύσας τῶν Βαβυ λωνίων ὁ βασιλεὺς , ὑπὸ τὴν ἑαυτοῦ τελεῖν δυνα στείαν ἠνάγκασε , μηνυθῆναι κελεύει τοῖς ἔθνεσι τὴν ταύτης κατάλυσιν
Since the king of the Babylonians, having dissolved the other kingdoms, compelled them to be subject to his own dominion, he commands that the dissolution of this one be announced to the nations.
由於巴比倫的王消滅了其餘的列國,強迫他們臣服於自己的權下,他便吩咐要向列國宣告這國的傾覆。

Κατῃσχύνθη Βήλ . Εἴδωλον ἦν σφόδρα παρὰ τῶν Βαβυλωνίων τιμώμενον·
'Bel is put to shame.' It was an idol exceedingly honoured by the Babylonians;
「彼勒蒙羞。」這是巴比倫人極其尊崇的一個偶像;

πρῶτον μὲν ὡς ἐπαρκέσαι τοῖς προσκυνοῦσιν οὐ δυνηθέντα , ἔπειτα ὡς τῶν τιμών των παντελῶς στερηθέντα
first as being unable to help those who worshipped it, and then as being utterly deprived of its honours.
首先是因它不能幫助那些敬拜它的人,其次是因它完全被奪去了所受的尊榮。

Ἡ ἀπτόητος , ἡ τρυ φερά . Καὶ τὸ δυνατὸν αὐτῶν δεδήλωκε , καὶ τὸ ἁβροδίαιτον
'The undaunted, the delicate.' He has shown both their power and their luxurious living.
「那無所畏懼的,那嬌貴的。」他同時顯明了他們的強盛與奢華的生活。

Παρεδόθη Μαιρωδάχ . Καὶ τὸν πρῶτον Βαβυλωνίων βασιλεύσαντα Μαιρωδὰχ ὠνό μασαν
'Merodach is delivered up.' They named the first who reigned over the Babylonians Merodach.
「米羅達被交出了。」他們稱那首先統治巴比倫人的為米羅達。

Ἐνταῦθα τοίνυν ἢ τὸν τελευταῖον λέγει , ἐφ' οὗ γέγονεν ἡ τῆς βασιλείας κατάλυσις , ἢ τὸν πρῶτον , ὃς ἀπὸ τῆς Νινευῒ εἰς τὴν Βαβυλῶνα τὴν βασιλείαν μετέθηκε
Here therefore he speaks either of the last king, in whose time the dissolution of the kingdom took place, or of the first, who transferred the kingdom from Nineveh to Babylon.
所以他在此所指的,或是那末代的王,就是王國在其時代傾覆的那位;或是那頭一位,就是把王國從尼尼微遷到巴比倫的那位。

Καὶ ἐπὶ μὲν τοῦ δευτέρου λάβοι τις ἂν , καὶ ἐπὶ τοῦ πρώτου , τὸ παρεδόθη· ἐπὶ δὲ τοῦ δευτέρου τὴν βασιλείαν αὐτήν·
And of the second one might take the 'is delivered up,' and also of the first; but of the second, the kingdom itself;
「被交出了」既可指第二位,也可指第一位;但論到第二位,所指的乃是王國本身;

λέγει δὲ αὐτῆς καὶ τὰ εἴδωλα πάντα καταισχυνθῆναι , καὶ γενέσθαι δήλην αὐτῶν τὴν ἀσθένειαν
and he says that all her idols too were put to shame, and their weakness made manifest.
他又說,她所有的偶像也都蒙了羞,它們的無能也顯明了。

Ἔθνος δὲ ἀπὸ βοῤῥᾶ κατὰ τῆς Βαβυλῶνος στρατεῦσαν τοὺς Μήδους λέγει
By 'a nation from the north that marched against Babylon' he means the Medes.
他以「一國從北方前來攻打巴比倫」所指的乃是瑪代人。

Οὗτοι δὲ , φησὶ , καὶ τὴν γῆν αὐτῶν ἀπέφηναν ἔρημον , καὶ αὐτὴν ἐξεπόρθησαν
'These,' he says, 'both made their land desolate, and utterly laid it waste.'
他說:「這些人使他們的地荒涼,並將它徹底毀壞了。」

ἀπολήψονται ἐλευθερίαν αἵ τε δέκα φυλαὶ , καὶ αἱ δύο·
both the ten tribes and the two shall receive their freedom;
那十個支派和那兩個支派都必得著自由;

καὶ κατ' αὐτὸ ἐπανήξουσι , καὶ φεύ ξονται πρὸς Κύριον
and thereupon they shall return, and shall flee unto the Lord.

Then he likens them to lost sheep;

and he lays the blame for the sheep's ruin upon the shepherds;

ποιμένας δὲ καλεῖ οὐ μόνον τοὺς βασιλέας , ἀλλὰ καὶ τοὺς ἱερέας·
and by shepherds he means not only the kings, but also the priests;
他所稱的牧人不僅指君王,也指祭司;

λέγει δὲ καὶ ποῦ παρεσκεύασαν αὐτὰ πλανηθῆναι
and he tells also in what way they contrived to lead them astray:

Ἔξωσαν αὐτοὺς ἐπὶ τὰ ὄρη·
'They drove them out onto the mountains;'
「他們把羊趕上山嶺;」

ἐπλάνησαν αὐτοὺς , ἐξ ὄρους ἐπὶ βουνὸν ᾤχοντο , ἐπελάθοντο κοίτης αὑτῶν . Βου νοὺς καὶ ὄρη τὰ τῶν εἰδώλων τεμένη καλεῖ·
'they led them astray; they wandered from mountain to hill, they forgot their resting-place.' By 'hills' and 'mountains' he means the precincts of the idols;
「他們使羊群走迷,從這山流蕩到那岡,忘了自己安歇之處。」他所稱的「岡」與「山」,是指偶像的廟宇;

ἐν ἐκείνοις γὰρ προσεκύνουν τὰ εἴδωλα·
for it was in those places that they worshipped the idols;
因為他們正是在那些地方敬拜偶像;

κοίτην δὲ αὐ τῶν τὸν θεῖον νεών·
and by their 'resting-place' he means the divine temple;

for it was from there that they had the enjoyment of good things.

'This error,' he says, 'has delivered them over to their enemies, in return for the sins they committed against the Lord.'
他說:「這迷惑已把他們交在仇敵手中,是因他們得罪了耶和華。」

Νομὴ δικαιοσύνης τῷ συναγαγόντι τοὺς πατέρας αὐτῶν τῷ Κυρίῳ
'A pasture of righteousness to him who gathered their fathers unto the Lord.'
「向那將他們列祖聚集歸於耶和華者,這是公義的草場。」

Ἡμεῖς δὲ λαὸς αὐτοῦ , καὶ πρόβατα νομῆς αὐτοῦ . Τοῦτο καὶ ἐνταῦθα λέγει·
'But we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.' This too is what he says here:
「我們是他的子民,是他草場的羊。」他在此所說的也正是這意思:

ὅτι νομὴ δικαιοσύνης ἦσαν τῷ Κυρίῳ , ὃς τοὺς πατέρας αὐτῶν ἐξελέξατο
namely, that they were a pasture of righteousness to the Lord, who chose out their fathers.
就是說,他們曾是耶和華——那揀選他們列祖者——公義的草場。

Ἀπαλλοτριώθητε ἐκ μέσου Βαβυλῶνος , καὶ ἀπὸ γῆς Χαλδαίων ἐξέλθατε·
'Be estranged from the midst of Babylon, and go forth from the land of the Chaldeans;'
「你們要從巴比倫中間離開,從迦勒底人之地出來;」

καὶ γένεσθε ὥσπερ ἔριφοι κατὰ πρόσωπον προβάτων
'and become like young goats before the flock.'
「並要成為羊群前面的公山羊羔。」

The 'young goats' the Syrian rendered as 'he-goats.'

He therefore urges them to prevail over the Babylonians, and to seize the one who oppressed them;
因此他勸勉他們要勝過巴比倫人,並要奪取那壓迫他們的;

διὰ τοῦτο γὰρ αὐτοὺς καὶ τρά γοις ἀπείκασεν·
for it was for this reason that he likened them also to he-goats;
正是為此,他才把他們比作公山羊;

ἰσχυρότεροι γὰρ τῶν προβάτων οἱ τράγοι·
for the he-goats are stronger than the sheep.

Λέγει δὲ καὶ τὸ πλῆθος τῶν ἐπιόντων τῇ Βα βυλῶνι καὶ ὅτι περιέσονται , καὶ τῶν ἠθροισμένων ἐκεῖ ἀγαθῶν ἐμπλησθήσονται
He tells also of the multitude of those advancing against Babylon, and that they shall prevail, and shall be filled with the good things gathered together there.
他也述說進攻巴比倫者的眾多,說他們必得勝,並必飽享那裡積聚的美物。

Ὅτι ηὐφραίνεσθε , καὶ κατεκαυχᾶσθε διαρπάζοντες τὴν κληρονομίαν μου
'Because you rejoiced and boasted, plundering my inheritance.'
「因為你們歡喜誇勝,搶奪我的產業。」

Καὶ διότι ἐσκιρτᾶτε , ὡς βοΐδια ἐν βοτάνῃ , καὶ ἐκερατίζετε ὡς ταῦροι
'And because you leaped like calves in the pasture, and gored like bulls.'
「又因你們像草場上的牛犢跳躍,像公牛用角牴觸。」

Καὶ κατῃσχύνθη ἡ μήτηρ αὐτῶν σφόδρα
'And their mother was greatly put to shame.'

Κατωρύγη ἡ τεκοῦσα ὑμᾶς μήτηρ εἰς ἀγαθά
'She who bore you was buried out of prosperity.'

'Behold, the last of the nations, a desert and a waterless land.'

(ιγʹ .) Καὶ ἀπὸ ὀργῆς Κυρίου οὐ κατοικηθήσεται , καὶ ἔσται εἰς ἀφανισμὸν πᾶσα
'(v. 13.) And because of the Lord's wrath she shall not be inhabited, and all of her shall become an utter desolation.'
「(十三節)又因耶和華的忿怒,她必無人居住,全然荒涼。」

Λέγει δὲ καὶ τοὺς διοδεύοντας σκυθρωπάζειν μὲν διὰ τὴν τοῦ πάθους ὑπερβολὴν , τῷ δὲ συρίγματι μηνύειν τὴν ἔκπληξιν
He says also that those passing through are gloomy because of the exceeding greatness of the calamity, and by their hissing make plain their astonishment.
他又說,經過的人因這災禍的極大而愁苦,並以其發出的噓聲顯明他們的驚駭。

Κελεύει δὲ καὶ τοῖς τοξόταις ἀφειδῶς ἀφεῖναι τὰ βέλη , καὶ τῆς ἀσεβείας αὐτῆς ἀπαιτῆσαι δίκας
He commands also the archers to loose their arrows unsparingly, and to exact penalties for her impiety.
他也吩咐弓箭手毫不吝惜地射出箭來,並為她的不虔追討報應。

Τῷ Κυ ρίῳ γὰρ , φησὶν , ἥμαρτε
'For she sinned,' he says, 'against the Lord.'
他說:「因為她得罪了耶和華。」

Προλέγει δὲ καὶ τὴν τῶν Βαβυλωνίων δειλίαν , καὶ τὴν τῶν περιβόλων κατά λυσιν·
He foretells also the cowardice of the Babylonians, and the demolition of their walls;
他也預言巴比倫人的怯懦,以及他們城牆的拆毀;

καὶ ἐπιλέγει τὴν αἰτίαν τῆς συμφορᾶς
and he adds the cause of the disaster.
並補述這災難的緣由。

Ὅτι ἐκδίκησις παρὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐστιν , ἐκδική σατε αὐτήν·
'Because vengeance is from God, take vengeance upon her;'
「因為報應出於神,你們要向她施行報應;」

καθὼς ἐποίησεν , οὕτως ποιήσατε αὐτῇ·
'as she has done, so do to her;'
「她怎樣行,你們也要照樣待她;」

( ιϛʹ .) Ἐξολοθρεύσατε σπέρματα ἐκ Βα βυλῶνος , κατέχοντα δρέπανον ἐν καιρῷ θερισμοῦ
'(v. 16.) Cut off the seed from Babylon, and him that holds the sickle in the time of harvest.'
「(十六節)你們要從巴比倫剪除撒種的,和收割時手拿鐮刀的。」

Ἀντὶ τοῦ , Μὴ μόνους τοὺς στρατευομένους , ἀλλὰ καὶ τοὺς γεωργοῦντας θανάτῳ παράδοτε
That is to say: deliver over to death not only those who wage war, but also those who till the ground.
意即:不僅要把作戰的人交於死亡,連耕種的人也要一併交出。

Τοῦτο γὰρ καὶ αὐτοὶ δεδράκασι τῷ Ἰσραὴλ πολεμοῦντες
For this is what they too had done in warring against Israel.

'From before the Greek sword each shall return to his own people, and each shall flee to his own land.' Before Babylon, Cyrus overthrew the Lydians;
「因怕希臘人的刀劍,各人必歸回本民,各人必逃回本地。」在攻打巴比倫之前,居魯士已征服了呂底亞人;

ὑπέταξε δὲ καὶ Ἴωνας , καὶ Αἰολέας·
and he subjugated also the Ionians and the Aeolians;
他也制伏了愛奧尼亞人和伊奧利亞人;

ἐκ δὲ τῆς Ἑλλάδος ἀπῳκίσθησαν οὗτοι , καὶ τὴν Ἀσίαν ᾤκησαν·
and these had migrated out of Greece, and settled in Asia;
這些人原是從希臘遷來,定居於亞細亞的;

ἄγων τοίνυν καὶ τούτους ὁ Κῦρος ἐπεστράτευσε τῇ Βαβυλῶνι
leading these also, then, Cyrus made his campaign against Babylon.

Ὁ μέντοι προφητικὸς λόγος οὐ μάτην τῶν Ἑλλήνων ἐμνήσθη·
The prophetic word, however, did not mention the Greeks in vain;
然而先知的話提及希臘人並非徒然;

ἀλλὰ διδάσκων , ὡς καὶ τὰ πόῤῥω που κατῳκισμένα ἔθνη θεία ψῆφος κατὰ τῶν Βαβυλωνίων συνήγαγε
but rather teaching that the divine decree gathered even the nations settled far away against the Babylonians.
乃是要教導:神聖的判定連那些遙遠定居的列國,也都聚集起來對付巴比倫人。

Πρόβατον πλανώμενον Ἰσραήλ
'Israel is a wandering sheep.'
「以色列是走迷的羊。」

Ἡ περὶ τὰ εἴδωλα πλάνη τῶν κακῶν αὐτῷ γεγένηται πρόξενος
The error concerning the idols became for him the procurer of his evils.
那拜偶像的迷惑,成了他一切禍患的媒介。

'Lions drove him out.' He so named the kings of the Assyrians.
「有獅子把他趕出去。」他如此稱呼亞述諸王。

'The first devoured them, the king of Assyria': Tiglath-pileser, and Shalmaneser, and Sennacherib;
「起先吞吃他們的是亞述王」:提革拉毗列色、撒縵以色和西拿基立;

καὶ οὕτως ὕστερος βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος Ναβουχοδονόσορ τὰ ὀστᾶ αὐτοῦ κατ έφαγεν
and thus a later king of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar, devoured his bones.
後來巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒又吞吃了他的骨頭。

Ἀντὶ τοῦ , τῶν προπατόρων τὰ λείψανα
That is to say, the remnants of the forefathers.

πράξομαι , καὶ ταῦτα πείσεται , ἃ πέπονθεν ἡ Νινευῒ , ἡ παλαιὰ τῶν Ἀσσυρίων μητρόπολις
'I will exact,' and she shall suffer these things which Nineveh suffered, the ancient metropolis of the Assyrians.
「我必追討」,她也必遭受尼尼微——亞述人那古老的都城——所遭受的這些事。

Τούτους δὲ τιμωρησά μενος , ἐπανάξω τὸν Ἰσραὴλ εἰς τὴν πατρῴαν γῆν·
But having punished these, I will bring Israel back to his ancestral land;

for by 'Bashan, and Carmel, and Mount Ephraim' he means this land.

Προλέγει δὲ καὶ τὴν ἐπὶ τὰ κρείττω μετα βολὴν , καὶ τὴν τῆς προτέρας πλάνης ἀπαλλαγήν
He foretells also the change for the better, and the deliverance from the former error.
他也預言那向好的轉變,以及脫離先前迷惑的釋放。

Εἶτα γῆν παραπικραινόντων πάλιν τὴν τῶν Χαλ δαίων καλεῖ·
Then again he calls the land of the Chaldeans a land of those who provoke to bitterness;
接著他又把迦勒底人之地稱作那惹動苦毒之人的地;

μάχαιραν δὲ τοὺς πολεμίους·
and by 'sword' he means the enemies;
他所稱的「刀劍」,是指仇敵;

καὶ κε λεύει τούτοις κατ' ἐκείνων ὁρμῆσαι , καὶ τὰ παρ' αὐτοῦ κελευόμενα πράξαι
and he commands these to rush against those, and to do the things commanded by him.
他吩咐這些人衝向那些人,並要行他所吩咐的事。

Σφύραν δὲ πάσης τῆς γῆς , τὴν τῶν Βαβυλωνίων βασιλείαν ὠνόμασεν , ὡς πᾶσι τοῖς ἔθνεσι ἐπενεγκοῦσαν πληγὴν , καὶ τὰς ἄλλας καταλύσασαν βασιλείας
And by 'hammer of the whole earth' he named the kingdom of the Babylonians, as having inflicted a blow upon all the nations, and having overthrown the other kingdoms.
他以「全地的大鎚」稱呼巴比倫的國度,因它擊打了萬國,並傾覆了其餘的列國。

Ἴδιον γάρ ἐστι σφύρας τὸ λεπτύνειν τὰ παρ' αὐτῆς τυπτόμενα
For it is proper to a hammer to crush the things struck by it.

Ἤνοιξε Κύριος τὸν θησαυρὸν αὑτοῦ , καὶ ἐξήνεγκε τὰ σκεύη τῆς ὀργῆς αὑτοῦ·
'The Lord opened his treasury, and brought forth the vessels of his wrath;'
「耶和華開了他的府庫,取出他忿怒的器皿;」
1:2722⧉ ⤴︎
ὅτι ἔργον ἐστὶ τῷ Θεῷ , καὶ Κυρίῳ τῶν δυνάμεων , ἐν γῇ Χαλδαίων
'for it is a work for God, even the Lord of hosts, in the land of the Chaldeans.'
「因為這是神——萬軍之耶和華——在迦勒底人之地所要作的工。」

Ὅτι ἐληλύθασιν οἱ καιροὶ αὐτῆς
'For her appointed times have come.'
「因為她受罰的日期已經來到。」

Σκεύη ὀργῆς τοὺς πολεμίους καλεῖ , ὡς τῇ ὀργῇ ὑπουργοῦντας
By 'vessels of wrath' he means the enemies, as ministering to his wrath.
他以「忿怒的器皿」指仇敵,因他們是執行他忿怒的僕役。

Θησαυροὺς δὲ , τὴν τιμωρητι κὴν ψῆφον , καιροὺς δὲ αὐτῆς , τὴν τιμωρίαν ἐκάλε σεν
And by 'treasures' he called the sentence of punishment, and by 'her times' the punishment itself.
他以「府庫」稱那定罪的判決,以「她的日期」稱那刑罰本身。

Εἶτα διδάσκων , ὡς αὐτὸς ἐπάγει τὴν τιμωρίαν , παρακελεύεται καὶ τὰς ἀποθήκας ἐρευνῆσαι , καὶ πάντα διαφθεῖραι , καὶ μηδὲ ἴχνος τῆς προτέρας εὐπραξίας καταλιπεῖν
Then, teaching that he himself brings on the punishment, he urges them also to search out the storehouses, and to destroy everything, and to leave not even a trace of the former prosperity.
接著,他教導說是他自己降下這刑罰,並勸勉他們搜查那些倉庫,毀滅一切,連先前昌盛的痕跡也不留下。

Προλέγει δὲ καὶ τοὺς ἐκεῖθεν ἀποδιδράσκοντας , τῶν Ἰουδαίων τὸ πλῆθος , καὶ τὴν Ἱερουσαλὴμ καταλαμ-βάνοντας , καὶ μηνύοντας τὰ κατειληφότα τὴν Βαβυ λῶνα κακά
He foretells also those fleeing from there, the multitude of the Jews, and coming to Jerusalem, and reporting the evils that had overtaken Babylon.
他也預言那些從那裡逃出來的猶太人眾多,來到耶路撒冷,報告臨到巴比倫的災禍。

Ἔπειτα παρακελευσάμενος αὐτὴν πα θεῖν ἃ δέδρακεν , Ἀνταπόδοτε γὰρ αὐτῇ , φησὶ , κατὰ τὰ ἔργα αὐτῆς , καὶ τὴν κατ' αὐτοῦ τοῦ Θεοῦ μανίαν ἐπιδείξας , πρὸς αὐτὴν ποιεῖται τοὺς λόγους
Then, having urged that she suffer what she had done, for he says, 'Repay her according to her works,' and having displayed the very frenzy of God against her, he directs his words to her.
接著,他勸令她遭受她所行的(因他說:「你們要照她所行的報應她」),並顯明了神對她的震怒之烈,便向她發言。

Ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐπὶ σὲ , λέγει Κύριος τῶν δυνά μεων , τὴν ὑβρίστριαν
'Behold, I am against you, you insolent one, says the Lord of hosts.'
「萬軍之耶和華說:狂傲的啊,看哪,我與你為敵。」

Ἡ τεθεῖσα προσηγορία τὸν κατὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ τύφον αἰνίττεται , καὶ τὴν εἰς πάντας ἀνθρώπους παρανομίαν δηλοῖ
The appellation applied to her hints at her arrogance against God, and makes plain her lawlessness toward all men.
加給她的這稱號,暗示她對神的傲慢,並顯明她對眾人的橫行不法。

Ὅτι ἥκει ἡμέρα τῆς πτώσεώς σου , καὶ καιρὸς ἐκδικήσεώς σου
'For the day of your fall is come, and the time of your vengeance.'
「因為你傾覆的日子已經來到,你受報應的時候已至。」

(λβʹ .) Καὶ ἀσθενήσει ἡ ὕβρις σου , καὶ πεσεῖται , καὶ οὐκ ἔσται ὁ ἀνιστῶν αὐτήν·
(32.) 'And your pride shall grow weak and fall, and there shall be none to raise it up;'
(三十二節)「你的驕傲必衰弱倒下,無人能將它扶起;」
1:2733⧉ ⤴︎
καὶ ἀνάψω πῦρ ἐν τῷ δρυμῷ αὐτῆς , καὶ καταφάγεται πάντα τὰ κύκλῳ αὐτῆς
'and I will kindle a fire in her forest, and it shall devour all that is round about her.'
「我要在她的樹林中點火,火必燒盡她四圍的一切。」

Τὰ δὲ κύκλῳ , τοὺς ὑπηκόους·
By 'those round about' he means her subjects.
所謂「四圍的」,是指她的臣屬。

ἀσθένειαν δὲ ὕβρεως , τὴν τῆς δυνα στείας κατάλυσιν
And by 'the weakening of pride' he means the dissolution of her dominion.
所謂「驕傲的衰弱」,是指她權勢的瓦解。

Ταῦτα δὲ , φησὶ , πείσονται , ὅτι τὸν ἐμὸν ἐξανδραποδίσαντες λαὸν , ἀποδοῦναι τὴν ἐλευθε ρίαν αὐτοῖς εἰς καιρὸν οὐκ ἠθέλησαν
'These things,' he says, 'they shall suffer, because, having enslaved my people, they were unwilling to restore their freedom to them in due time.'
他說:「他們必遭受這些,因為他們奴役了我的百姓,卻不肯在適當的時候將自由歸還給他們。」

Τούτου δὴ . χάριν , ἀπειλεῖ παραδώσειν τοῖς πολεμίοις , καὶ τὴν πόλιν , καὶ τοὺς ἐνοικοῦντας , καὶ τὰ τῆς ψευδολο γίας μαντεῖα , καὶ τοὺς ἀριστεύειν ἐν αὐτῇ εἰω θότας , καὶ τοὺς εἰς ἐπικουρίαν αὐτῶν ἀφικομένους , καὶ τοὺς ἀποκειμένους θησαυρούς
For this reason, therefore, he threatens to deliver up to the enemy both the city and its inhabitants, and the oracles of her false prophecy, and those accustomed to hold pre-eminence in her, and those who came to their aid, and the treasures laid up in store.
因此之故,他威嚇說,要將這城、城中的居民、她虛謊預言的神諭、慣於在城中稱雄的人、前來援助他們的人,以及所積存的財寶,都交在仇敵手中。

Ἀπειλεῖ δὲ καὶ τὸ ὕδωρ αὐτῆς φροῦδον ποιήσειν·
He threatens also to make her waters vanish away;
他又威嚇說,要使她的水枯乾消失;

ὕδωρ δὲ τροπικῶς τὸ πλῆθος καλεῖ·
and by 'water' he figuratively names the multitude of her people;
他以「水」比喻地指稱她眾多的百姓;

εἰκὸς δὲ προαγορεύειν καὶ τὰ τῷ ὕδατι συμβησόμενα
yet it is likely that he also foretells what would befall the water itself.
然而他很可能也預言了那水本身將要遭遇的事。

Πάλαι γὰρ αὐτὴν μέσην ἔτεμνεν ὁ Εὐφράτης , νῦν δὲ ὁ μὲν ποταμὸς ἐτέτραπτο εἰς ἑτέραν ὁδὸν , σμικροτάτη δὲ διώρυξ διὰ τῶν ἐρει πίων ὁδεύει
For of old the Euphrates cut through the midst of her, but now the river has been turned into another course, and only a very small channel makes its way through the ruins.
因為從前幼發拉底河貫穿她的中央,如今那河卻被引向另一條道路,只有一條極小的溝渠穿行於廢墟之間。

Νήσους δὲ καλεῖ τὰς τῆς πόλεως οἰκίας , ὡς κύκλῳ τοὺς περιβόλους ὕδατος περικλύζοντος , καὶ πάλιν ἐν μέσῳ τῆς πόλεως ἐχούσας τὸν ποταμόν
By 'islands' he calls the houses of the city, since the water washed around the enclosing walls on every side, and again the river ran through the midst of the city.
他以「海島」稱呼城中的房屋,因為水從四圍環繞沖刷著城牆,而那河又流貫城的中央。

καὶ δαίμονας δὲ ἔθος οὕτω καλεῖν τῇ θείᾳ Γραφῇ , διὰ τὸ καταθέλγειν καὶ ἐξ απατᾷν τοὺς ἀνθρώπους·
and it is the custom of divine Scripture so to call demons, because they bewitch and deceive men;
神聖的聖經慣於如此稱呼群鬼,因為牠們迷惑並欺騙世人;

καὶ οὗτοι μέντοι κἀκεῖνοι τῆς ἐρημίας σημαντικοί
and both these creatures and those are indicative of desolation.

'And it shall no more be built up for ever, neither shall it be inhabited any more from generation to generation.' And both have come to pass in fact;

οὔτε γὰρ ᾠκοδομήθη , ἀλλ' ἐστέρηται τῶν περιβόλων μέχρι καὶ τήμερον , καὶ ἐπὶ πλεῖστον ἀοίκητος ἔμεινε·
for neither has it been rebuilt, but has been stripped of its walls even to this day, and has remained uninhabited for a very long time;
因為她既未曾重建,直到今日仍被剝奪了城牆,並且長久以來荒無人煙;

τοῦτο γὰρ εἶπεν εἰς γενεὰς καὶ γενεάς . Καὶ νῦν δὲ ὀλίγοι τὴν γῆν ταύτην οἰκοῦ σιν Ἰουδαῖοι
for this is what he meant by 'from generation to generation.' And even now only a few Jews dwell in this land.
這正是他所說「世世代代」的意思。就是如今,也只有少數猶太人住在這地。

Ἀπεικάζει δὲ αὐτὴν Σοδόμοις καὶ Γομόῤῥοις , καὶ διὰ τὴν προτέραν ἀσέβειαν , καὶ διὰ τὴν ἐπενεχθεῖσαν ὕστερον ζημίαν
He likens her to Sodom and Gomorrah, both on account of her former impiety, and on account of the ruin subsequently brought upon her.
他將她比作所多瑪與蛾摩拉,既因她從前的不敬虔,也因後來臨到她的毀滅。

Ὑποδείκνυσι δὲ καὶ τῶν πολεμίων τὴν πανοπλίαν , καὶ ἐοικέναι φησὶ θαλάσσῃ κυμαινούσῃ·
He also indicates the full armament of the enemy, and says it is like a surging sea;
他又描述仇敵的全副武裝,說它彷彿翻騰洶湧的海;

Τῶν δὲ Βαβυλωνίων ὑπὸ δειλίας λέγει παρα λυθῆναι τὰς χεῖρας , καὶ τὴν ὀδύνην αὐτῶν ὠδῖσι γυναικὸς ἀπεικάζει
and he says that the hands of the Babylonians were paralysed with fear, and he likens their anguish to the birth-pangs of a woman.
他說巴比倫人的手因懼怕而癱軟,並將他們的痛苦比作婦人分娩的陣痛。

καὶ τίς ἀντιστήσεταί μοι; καὶ τίς οὗτος ποιμὴν , ὃς στήσε ται κατὰ πρόσωπόν μου; Ἐπειδὴ ποιμὴν τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ ὠνομάζετο , ἐνόμισαν δὲ τῆς Βαβυλῶνος οἱ βασιλεῖς αὐτοῦ περιγενήσεσθαι τοῦ τῶν ὅλων Θεοῦ , διδάσκει , ὡς αὐτὸς αὐτοῖς ἐπάγει τὴν τιμω ρίαν , ἀσύγκριτον ἔχων τὴν δύναμιν
'And who shall withstand me? And who is this shepherd that shall stand before my face?' Since he was called the shepherd of Israel, and the kings of Babylon supposed that they would prevail over the God of all, he teaches that it is he himself who brings the punishment upon them, having power beyond all comparison.
「誰能抵擋我呢?又有哪一個牧人能站在我面前呢?」既然他被稱為以色列的牧者,而巴比倫的諸王卻以為能勝過萬有的神,他便教導說,是他自己親自將刑罰加於他們,其能力無可比擬。

Εἶτα παρακε λεύεται καὶ αὐτὰ διαφθεῖραι τὰ ἀρνία τῶν προβά των , καὶ τὴν νομὴν ἀφανίσαι·
Then he further commands that the very lambs of the flock be destroyed and the pasture be laid waste;
接著他又吩咐,連羊群中的羔羊也要毀滅,草場也要荒廢;

καλεῖ δὲ ἀρνία τὰ βρέφη , νομὴν δὲ τὴν πόλιν , καὶ τὴν ὑποκειμένην γῆν
and by 'lambs' he means the infants, and by 'pasture' the city and the land lying beneath it.
他以「羔羊」指嬰孩,以「草場」指那城及其所屬的土地。

Μακάριος γὰρ , φησὶν , ὃς κρατή σει τὰ νήπιά σου , καὶ ἐδαφιεῖ αὐτὰ πρὸς τὴν πέτραν
'For blessed,' he says, 'is he who shall seize your little ones and dash them against the rock.'
他說:「凡拿住你的嬰孩摔在磐石上的,那人便為有福。」

Ἐπειδὴ γὰρ ἐπίσημος ἦν ἡ πόλις , πάντοσε διέδραμε καὶ τοῦ πάθους ἡ φήμη
For since the city was renowned, the report of her calamity also ran everywhere.
因為這城既是顯赫聞名,她受難的消息便傳遍各處。

ΚΕΦΑΛΑΙΟΝ ΝΑʹ Εἶτα διαφόροις ὀνόμασι τοὺς πολεμίους καλεῖ·
CHAPTER 51. Then he calls the enemy by various names;
第五十一章 然後他以不同的名稱稱呼那些仇敵;

καὶ πρῶτον μὲν ἄνεμον καύσωνα·
and first, a scorching wind;
首先稱之為灼熱的風;
1:2760⧉ ⤴︎
διαφθείρειν γὰρ οὗτος πέφυκε τὰ φυτά
for this is wont by nature to destroy plants.
因為這風本性慣於摧殘草木。
1:2761⧉ ⤴︎
διὰ τούτου δὲ δηλοῖ τῆς τιμωρίας τὸ δίκαιον
And by this he signifies the justice of the punishment.
他藉此表明這刑罰的公義。

Πείσῃ γὰρ , φησὶν , ὃ πεποίηκας
'For you shall suffer,' he says, 'what you have done.'
他說:「你必遭受你所行的。」

Τούτοις ἐντειλάμενος ἀφειδῶς κατὰ πάντων χρήσασθαι τῷ θυμῷ , ἐπήγαγε·
Having commanded these to employ their wrath unsparingly against all, he added:
他既吩咐這些人毫不留情地向眾人施行忿怒,便又補充說:

οὐ γὰρ δὴ παντε λῶς αὐτοὺς τῆς ἐμῆς κηδεμονίας ἐγύμνωσα
'for I have not utterly stripped them of my care.'
「因為我並未完全撤去我對他們的眷顧。」

Ποτήριον χρυσοῦν Βαβυλὼν ἐν χειρὶ Κυρίου , μεθύσκον πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν ἀπὸ τοῦ οἴνου αὑτῆς·
'Babylon is a golden cup in the Lord's hand, that made all the earth drunk with her wine;'
「巴比倫是耶和華手中的金杯,使全地都喝醉;」
1:2766⧉ ⤴︎
ἔπιεν ἔθνη τοῦτο , ἐσαλεύθη ἔθνη
'the nations drank of this, the nations were shaken.'
「列國喝了這杯,列國就顛狂。」
1:2767⧉ ⤴︎
Καὶ ἄφνω ἔπεσε Βαβυλὼν , καὶ συνετρί βη
'And suddenly Babylon has fallen and is shattered.'
「巴比倫忽然傾倒破碎。」

καὶ ἐνταῦθα τὴν δι' αὐτοῦ τιμωρίαν , τοῖς ἄλ λοις ἐπενεχθεῖσαν ἔθνεσι , ποτήριον χρυσοῦν προσ ηγόρευσε
And here too he named the punishment inflicted through her upon the other nations a 'golden cup.'
在此他也將藉她加於別國的刑罰稱為「金杯」。
1:2769⧉ ⤴︎
Λέγει τοίνυν , ὅτι καὶ τοῖς ἄλλοις ἔθνεσι τὴν τιμωρίαν ἐπήνεγκε , καὶ ἐξαίφνης αὐτὴ παρὰ πᾶσαν ἐλπίδα ἑάλω , καὶ ἀνάστατος γέγονεν
He says, therefore, that she brought punishment upon the other nations also, yet she herself was suddenly, beyond all expectation, captured and overthrown.
所以他說,她既將刑罰加於別國,卻出乎眾人意料之外,忽然被攻取,遭到傾覆。
1:2770⧉ ⤴︎
Εἶτα τοῖς εἰς ἐπικουρίαν ἐληλυθόσιν ἔθνεσι λέγει , Θρηνεῖτε αὐτήν·
Then to the nations that had come to her aid he says, 'Lament for her;'
接著他向那些前來援助她的列國說:「你們要為她哀哭;」
1:2771⧉ ⤴︎
λάβετε ῥητίνην τῇ διαφθορᾷ αὐτῆς , εἰ πως ἰαθήσεται . Ἀντὶ τοῦ , προσενέγκατε αὐτῇ τῆς βοηθείας τὰ φάρμακα·
'take balm for her destruction, if perhaps she may be healed.' That is to say, apply to her the remedies of help;

It shall not be inhabited as a single whole. For it now has few houses, and these scattered.

That is, both rulers and ruled, and along with the king his subjects;

for by 'lambs' and 'kids' he called the subjects, and by 'rams' the rulers.
因為他以「羔羊」與「山羊羔」稱那些臣民,以「公綿羊」稱那些掌權者。

Πῶς ἑάλω Σεσὰχ , καὶ ἐθηρεύθη τὸ καύ χημα πάσης τῆς γῆς; Αὐτὴν οὕτω καλεῖ τὴν Βαβυ λῶνα
How is Sheshach taken, and the boast of all the earth captured? Thus he calls Babylon herself.
示沙克怎麼被攻取了?全地所稱讚的怎麼被擄掠了?他這樣稱呼巴比倫本身。

Καὶ γὰρ τὸν ταύτης βασιλέα Σεσὰχ ἐν τοῖς πρόσθεν ἑρμηνευομένοις προσηγόρευσε
For indeed he named her king 'Sheshach' in what was interpreted earlier.

Εἰκὸς δὲ αὐτὴν οὕτως ὀνομασθῆναι πάλαι , μετονομασθῆναι δὲ Βαβυλῶνα
It is likely that she was so named of old, and was later renamed Babylon.

Ὅτι γὰρ τὴν πόλιν οὕτω καλεῖ , τὰ ἐπαγόμενα μαρτυρεῖ
That he does indeed call the city by this name, what follows bears witness.

The sea has come up upon Babylon;

she was overwhelmed by the roar of its waves.

Then, having foretold the desolation, he again brings Bel into the midst.

For I will take vengeance, he says, upon Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth what he has swallowed;

καὶ οὐ μὴ συναχθῶσι πρὸς αὐ τὸν ἔτι τὰ ἔθνη
and the nations shall no longer be gathered together unto him.

Προλέγει δὲ ὁ προφητικὸς λόγος καὶ τῆς πλάνης τὴν παῦλαν·
The prophetic word foretells also the cessation of the error;

ψυχαγωγεῖ δὲ καὶ τὸν λαὸν , καὶ παρακελεύεται μὴ δεῖσαι τὰ ἐπερχόμενα τῇ Βαβυλῶνι κακὰ , καὶ διδάσκει ὡς πρὸ πολλοῦ ταῦτα μεμήνυται
and it consoles the people, and exhorts them not to fear the evils coming upon Babylon, and teaches that these things were made known long beforehand.
它安慰百姓,勸勉他們不要懼怕臨到巴比倫的災禍,並教導他們這些事早已預先宣示。

Εἰσελεύσεται γὰρ ἐν τῷ αὐτῷ ἐνιαυτῷ ἡ ἀκοὴ , καὶ μετ' αὐτὸν ἐν τῷ ἐνιαυτῷ ἡ ἀκοὴ καὶ ἡ ἀδικία ἐν τῇ γῇ
For the report shall come in the same year, and after it, in the following year, the report and the injustice in the land.
因為那風聲必在同一年來到,其後在次年又有風聲,並地上的不義。

And ruler against ruler, and parable against parable.

Πρὸ γὰρ ἑνὸς καὶ δύο ἐνιαυτῶν τῆς ἐφόδου τῶν πο λεμίων μηνυομένης , ἐπέμειναν ἀδικοῦντες καὶ συν ήθως παρανομοῦντες
For though the assault of the enemy was announced one or two years beforehand, they persisted in wrongdoing and transgressing after their custom.
因為雖然仇敵的入侵早在一兩年前已預先宣告,他們仍執意行惡,一如往常地違法犯禁。

διδάσκει δὲ καὶ τῆς τιμωρίας τὸ δίκαιον
And he teaches also the justice of the punishment.

You who have escaped from the land, go, and do not stand still;

μνήσθητε , οἱ μακρόθεν , τοῦ Κυρίου
remember the Lord, you who are far off.

These things he says to the captive Jews.

And let Jerusalem come up upon your heart. Do not forget the city that is consecrated to God.

Disgrace has covered our face.

Strangers have entered into our holy places, into the house of the Lord.

Ἰδοὺ ἡμέραι ἔρχονται , λέγει Κύριος , καὶ ἐκδικήσω ἐπὶ τὰ γλυπτὰ αὐτῆς , καὶ ἐπὶ πάσῃ τῇ γῇ αὐτῆς πεσοῦνται τραυματίαι
Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will take vengeance upon her graven images, and throughout all her land the slain shall fall.
耶和華說:「看哪,日子將到,我必懲罰她的雕刻偶像,在她全地遍處必有被殺的人倒下。」

Ὅτι ἐὰν ἀναβῇ Βαβυλὼν ὡς ὁ οὐρανὸς , καὶ ἐὰν ὀχυρώσῃ ὕψος τῆς ἰσχύος αὑτῆς , παρ' ἐμοῦ ἥξουσιν ἐξολοθρεύοντες αὐτὴν , λέγει Κύριος
For though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, from me shall come those who destroy her, says the Lord.
耶和華說:「巴比倫雖升到天上,雖使她堅固的高處更加穩固,滅命者仍必從我而來攻擊她。」

Περιβόλους εἶχε μεγίστους , καὶ λίαν ὑψηλούς·
It had very great walls, and exceedingly high ones.
它有極其巨大且非常高聳的城牆。

αὐτοῦ κατ' αὐτῶν τὴν ψῆφον ἐκφέροντος
when He pronounces His sentence against them.

And He joins the deed to the divine sentence, and says:

Φωνὴ κραυγῆς ἐν Βαβυλῶνι , καὶ συν τριβὴ μεγάλη ἐν γῇ Χαλδαίων
A sound of crying in Babylon, and great destruction in the land of the Chaldeans.
在巴比倫有哀號之聲,在迦勒底人之地有極大的毀滅。

Ὅτι ἐξωλόθρευσε Κύριος τὴν Βαβυλῶνα , καὶ ἀπώλεσεν ἐξ αὐτῆς φωνὴν ἠχοῦσαν ὡς ὕδατα πολλά
For the Lord has utterly destroyed Babylon, and has cut off from her the voice that resounded like many waters.
因為主已徹底毀滅了巴比倫,並從她中間除滅了那如眾水般轟鳴的聲音。

Τὸ πλῆθος τῶν οἰκητόρων διὰ τούτων δεδήλωκεν·
By these words He has made plain the multitude of the inhabitants.

καὶ οὐδὲν , φησὶν , ἀπώνατο τῶν τόξων , οὔτε τῶν δοράτων , τοῦ Θεοῦ δίκας αὐτὴν πραττομένου
And she gained no benefit, He says, from her bows nor from her spears, since God was exacting justice upon her.
祂說,當神向她施行公義的審判時,她的弓箭與長矛都無濟於事。

Πρὸς γὰρ τοῖς στρατ ηγοῖς , καὶ τοῖς ἀριστεῦσι , Καὶ τὸ μέγιστον τεῖχος αὐτῆς κατασκαφήσεται , καὶ αἱ ὑψηλαὶ πύλαι πυρὸς γενήσονται παρανάλωμα . Οὕτω ταῦτα προειρηκὼς , διδάσκει , ὡς τήνδε τὴν πρόῤῥησιν ἔγρα ψεν ἐν τῷ τετάρτῳ τῆς Σεδεκίου βασιλείας , τοῦ Θεοῦ τοῦτο προστάξαντος·
For besides her generals and her champions—And her greatest wall shall be razed to the ground, and her lofty gates shall become fuel for the fire. Having thus foretold these things, he teaches that he wrote this prophecy in the fourth year of the reign of Zedekiah, God having commanded this—
因為除了她的將帥與勇士之外——她那最巨大的城牆必被夷為平地,她那高聳的城門必成為火的燃料。他既如此預言了這些事,便教導說:他是在西底家在位第四年寫下這預言的,是神吩咐他這樣做的——

Κύριε , σὺ ἐλάλησας ἐπὶ τὸν τόπον τοῦτον , τοῦ ἐξολοθρεῦσαι αὐτὸν , καὶ τοῦ μὴ εἶναι ἐν αὐτῷ κατοικοῦντα , ἀπὸ ἀνθρώπου ἕως κτήνους , ὅτι ἀφανισμὸς εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα ἔσται
O Lord, You have spoken concerning this place, to utterly destroy it, so that there should be no inhabitant in it, from man even to beast, for it shall be a desolation for ever.
主啊,祢曾論到這地方說,要徹底毀滅它,使其中無人居住,從人到牲畜都沒有,因為它必永遠荒涼。

Ταῦτα δὲ , ἔφη , προσευξάμενος , καὶ λίθῳ τὸ βιβλίον προσδήσας , ῥίψον εἰς τὸν Εὐφράτην , καὶ ἐρεῖς·
And when you have prayed these things, He said, and have bound the book to a stone, cast it into the Euphrates, and you shall say:
祂說,你既如此禱告了,就把那書卷拴在一塊石頭上,拋入幼發拉底河中,並且要說:

Οὕτως καταδύσεται Βαβυλὼν , καὶ οὐ μὴ ἀναστῇ ἀπὸ προσώπου τῶν κακῶν , ὧν ἐγὼ ἐπάγω ἐπ' αὐτήν
Thus shall Babylon sink down, and shall not rise again, because of the evils which I bring upon her.
巴比倫必如此沉沒,且不再興起,這是因我所降在她身上的災禍。

ἵνα μαθόντες καὶ ταύτης τὴν ἅλωσιν , καὶ τὴν οἰκείαν ἐλευθερίαν , παραψυχὴν ἔχωσι τῶν ἀγαθῶν τὴν ἐλπίδα
so that, learning both of this city's capture and of their own liberation, they might have the hope of good things as a consolation.
為要使他們既得知這城的被攻取,並得知自己的得釋放,就能以美善之事的盼望作為安慰。

Ἡ μὲν οὖν προφητεία ἐντεῦθεν ἔσχε τὸ τέλος
The prophecy, then, here reached its conclusion.

But in a more historical manner he recounts what follows.

And teaching both how Zedekiah reigned, and that he persisted in transgressing;
他既教導西底家如何登基作王,又教導他始終行不法之事;

καὶ ὡς ἐν τῷ ἐννάτῳ ἔτει τῆς βα σιλείας αὐτοῦ ἐπεστράτευσε Ναβουχοδονόσορ , καὶ τὴν Ἱερουσαλὴμ πολιορκῶν διετέλεσε μέχρις ἑν δεκάτου ἔτους , ἕτερον ἔξωθεν ἐγείρας περίβολον ἀπὸ λίθων μεγίστων·
and how in the ninth year of his reign Nebuchadnezzar marched against him, and continued besieging Jerusalem until the eleventh year, having raised outside another rampart of very great stones;
以及在他在位第九年,尼布甲尼撒如何出兵攻打他,並持續圍困耶路撒冷直到第十一年,在城外築起另一道用極大石頭砌成的壘牆;

καὶ ὅπως ὁ λιμὸς τοὺς ἔνδον τῶν πολεμίων χαλεπώτερον κατειργάζετο
and how the famine wrought upon those within more grievously than the enemy did.

And he, having convicted Zedekiah of the breaking of his oaths, first slew his sons, then the princes;
他既定了西底家背棄誓言的罪,就先殺了他的眾子,然後殺了眾首領;

καὶ ὅτι μετὰ τὴν πικρὰν ἐκείνην θεωρίαν , τοῦ βασι λέως τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς ἐξορύξας , καὶ πέδας αὐτῷ παραθεὶς , ἀπήγαγέ τε εἰς Βαβυλῶνα , καὶ μύλωνι παρέδωκε
and how, after that bitter spectacle, he gouged out the king's eyes, and having put fetters upon him, carried him off to Babylon, and delivered him to the millhouse.

and he teaches how the king of the Babylonians slew both the first priest and the second, and those who were led away captive with them;

Evil-merodach the king freed this same Jeconiah from prison, and, showing him kindness, deemed him worthy of a royal throne, and commanded him to sit as king above the others, and kept him as a table-companion, generously supplying him with the enjoyment of all necessities.
以未米羅達王把這同一位耶哥尼雅從監牢裡釋放出來,向他施恩慈,看他配坐王位,吩咐他坐在其他諸王之上為王,並與他同席用膳,慷慨地供給他一切所需之物的享用。

For in punishing He shows mercy, and by bringing chastisement He consoles the soul, and He tempers the sentence of justice with lovingkindness.

Let us, therefore, fear the justice of the judgment, and, taking courage in His lovingkindness, let us not despair of salvation;

but let us wait for the divine mercy, and walk the straight path, that we may attain the blessed end, in Christ Jesus our Lord, with whom to our Father be glory, together with the all-holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages.
反倒讓我們等候神聖的憐憫,行走那正直的道路,使我們可以在我們的主基督耶穌裡達到那蒙福的結局;願榮耀藉著祂歸與我們的父,同著至聖的聖靈,從今直到永永遠遠。

yet five years after the taking of the city, he arrived at Babylon.

Πᾶσαν γὰρ εἰσ έφερον σπουδὴν τῆς εὐσεβείας οἱ τρόφιμοι , ὥστε τοὺς ἀσθενεῖς ἐπερείδειν , καὶ πρὸς τὴν ἀλήθειαν ποδηγεῖν
For those reared in piety brought all diligence to bear, so as to support the weak and to guide them toward the truth.
因為那些在敬虔中受栽培的人竭盡一切殷勤,為要扶助軟弱的人,並引導他們歸向真理。

Ἀφικόμενος τοίνυν εἰς τὴν Βαβυλῶνα , τοῦ θείου Ἱερεμίου τὴν προφητείαν ὑπανέγνω πᾶσι τοῖς αἰχμαλώτοις , καὶ μέντοι καὶ τῷ Ἰεχονίᾳ , ὃς ὀλίγον βασιλεύσας χρόνον ἐγένετο δορυάλωτος·
Having therefore arrived at Babylon, he read out the prophecy of the divine Jeremiah to all the captives, and indeed also to Jeconiah, who, having reigned only a short time, had become a captive of the spear;
他既到了巴比倫,就向眾被擄的人宣讀神聖的耶利米的預言,甚至也向耶哥尼雅宣讀——他作王的時候不長,就成了刀下的俘虜;

καὶ οὐ δι ήμαρτε τοῦ σκοποῦ
and he did not fail of his aim.

For the Hebrews call the manna a sacrifice.

And they ask for life both for Nebuchadnezzar and for Belshazzar his son.

Οὕτω καὶ ὁ θεῖος Ἀπόστολος ὑπὲρ τῶν ἔτι πολεμούντων τῇ εὐσεβείᾳ βασιλέων , καὶ τῶν ἐν ὑπεροχῇ καὶ ἐξουσίᾳ ὄντων , ἐνομοθέτησεν εὔχεσθαι
Thus too the divine Apostle laid down the law of praying on behalf of kings who still warred against piety, and of those in positions of eminence and authority.
照樣,那神聖的使徒也定下律法,要為那些仍與敬虔為敵的君王,並那些居高位掌權柄的人代禱。

Τοσαύτη συμφωνία τῶν παλαιῶν πρὸς τὰ νέα
So great is the harmony of the old with the new.

Αἰτοῦσι δὲ καὶ αὐτοὶ δου λεύειν ἠναγκασμένοι φωτισθῆναι τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς , ἵνα μή τινα ὑπομένωσι πλάνην
And they too, being compelled to serve, ask that their eyes may be enlightened, lest they should suffer any deception.
他們自己既被迫為奴,也祈求他們的眼睛得蒙光照,免得他們陷入任何迷惑。

Ἀναμιμνήσκουσι δὲ καὶ τῶν οἰκείων ἁμαρτημάτων , καὶ τῆς ψήφου τῆς θείας ὁμολογοῦσι τὸ δίκαιον
And they call to mind also their own sins, and they confess the justice of the divine sentence.
他們也追念自己的罪過,並承認神聖判決的公義。

And they entreat that this very letter of theirs be read before God at the splendid feasts.

Καὶ ἐρεῖτε , φησὶ , Τῷ κυρίῳ Θεῷ ἡμῶν ἡ δικαιοσύνη , ἡμῖν δὲ ἡ αἰσχύνη τοῦ προσώπου ἡμῶν , ὡς ἡ ἡμέρα αὕτη ἀνθρώπῳ Ἰούδα , καὶ τοῖς κατοικοῦσιν Ἱερουσαλὴμ , καὶ τοῖς ἄρ χουσιν ἡμῶν , καὶ τοῖς ἱερεῦσιν ἡμῶν , ἐναντίον Κυρίου
And you shall say, He says: To the Lord our God belongs righteousness, but to us belongs the shame of our face, as at this day, to the man of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to our rulers, and to our priests, before the Lord.
祂說,你們要說:公義是屬於主我們的神的,臉上的羞愧卻是屬於我們的,就如今日一樣,臨到猶大人、耶路撒冷的居民、我們的官長和我們的祭司,都在主面前蒙羞。

ἡμεῖς δὲ αἰσχύνης ἄξιοι , κοινῇ πάντες παρανομήσαντες
And we are worthy of shame, having all in common transgressed the law.
我們實在配受羞愧,因為我們眾人都一同干犯了律法。

Μετὰ γὰρ τῶν βασιλέων , καὶ οἱ ἱερεῖς τὴν ἐναντίαν ἐτρέποντο
For along with the kings, the priests also turned to the opposite course.
因為祭司與君王一同轉向了相反的道路。

Καὶ οὐκ ἠκούσαμεν τῆς φωνῆς Κυρίου Θεοῦ ἡμῶν , πορεύεσθαι τοῖς προστάγμασι Κυρίου , οἷς ἔδωκε κατὰ πρόσωπον ἡμῶν
And we did not hearken to the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in the commandments of the Lord which He set before our face.
我們也沒有聽從主我們神的話,去遵行主擺在我們面前的誡命。

Ἀναμιμνήσκονται δὲ καὶ τῶν παλαιῶν
And they call to mind also the things of old.

Ἐξ οὗ γὰρ τῆς Αἰγυπτίων δουλείας ἠλευθερώθησαν οἱ πατέρες ἡμῶν , μέχρι τοῦ παρ όντος , παραβαίνοντες τὸν θεῖον διετελέσαμεν νόμον·
For from the time when our fathers were freed from the bondage of the Egyptians until the present, we have continued transgressing the divine law;
因為從我們列祖脫離埃及人的奴役之時,直到如今,我們始終不斷地干犯神聖的律法;

καὶ ἐσχεδιάζομεν πρὸς τὸ μὴ ἀκούειν τῆς φωνῆς αὐτοῦ
and we acted heedlessly, so as not to hearken to His voice.
並且我們草率行事,以致不肯聽從祂的聲音。

Τὸ δὲ ἐσχεδιάζομεν , ἀντὶ τοῦ , καὶ ἐπενοοῦμεν ἁμαρτημάτων εἴδη· τοὺς τοιούτους καὶ ὁ μακάριος Παῦλος ἐφευρετὰς καλεῖ κακῶν·
And the phrase 'we acted heedlessly' stands for 'we even devised forms of sins'; such men the blessed Paul also calls inventors of evils;
至於「我們草率行事」這句話,其意乃是「我們竟發明各樣罪的形式」;這樣的人,蒙福的保羅也稱之為「發明惡事的人」;
1:2925⧉ ⤴︎
ἐδρεψάμεθα δὲ , φησὶ , τοὺς τῶν ἁμαρτημά των καρπούς
and we have reaped, he says, the fruits of our sins.
他說,我們也收割了自己罪的果子。
1:2926⧉ ⤴︎
Ἐκολλήθη γὰρ εἰς ἡμᾶς τὰ κακὰ , καὶ ἡ ἀρὰ , ἣν συνέταξε Κύριος τῷ Μωσεῖ τῷ παιδὶ αὑτοῦ
For evils clung to us, and the curse which the Lord ordained for Moses His servant.
因為災禍緊緊纏著我們,還有那咒詛,就是主為祂僕人摩西所命定的。

Περιέχει καὶ τὰς ἀρὰς , καὶ τὰς εὐλογίας ὁ νόμος·
The law contains both the curses and the blessings;
律法既包含咒詛,也包含祝福;
1:2928⧉ ⤴︎
τοῖς μὲν φυλάσσουσι τὰς εὐλογίας , τοῖς δὲ παραβαίνουσι τὰς ἀράς
the blessings for those who keep it, but the curses for those who transgress it.
祝福是給那些遵守律法的人,咒詛卻是給那些干犯律法的人。

Λέγουσι δὲ , ὅπως καὶ τῶν προφητῶν κατεφρό νουν ὑπὸ τοῦ Θεοῦ πρὸς αὐτοὺς πεμπομένων , καὶ ὅτι τὰ προῤῥηθέντα ὑπ' ἐκείνων τετύχηκε πέ ρατος
And they tell how they despised even the prophets who were sent to them by God, and that the things foretold by those prophets came to their fulfillment.
他們並述說,他們如何連神差到他們那裡的先知也加以藐視,以及那些先知所預言的事如何都應驗了。

Καὶ ἤγαγε , φησὶν , ἐφ' ἡμᾶς κακὰ μεγάλα , ἃ οὐκ ἐποιήθη ὑποκάτω παντὸς τοῦ οὐρανοῦ ,. καθὰ ἐποίησεν ἐν Ἱερουσαλήμ
And He has brought, he says, upon us great evils, such as have not been done under the whole heaven, according to what He did in Jerusalem.
他說,祂已使極大的災禍臨到我們,就是在普天之下未曾行過的,正如祂在耶路撒冷所行的一樣。

Καὶ διδάσκοντες , ὡς καὶ ταῦτα προεῤῥέθη , ἐπήγαγον·
And teaching that these things too had been foretold, they added:
他們既教導說這些事也早已預言過了,就接著說:

Κατὰ τὰ γεγραμμένα ἐν τῷ νόμῳ Μωσοῦ . γʹ
According to what is written in the law of Moses.
正如摩西律法上所寫的。

Τοῦ φαγεῖν ἄνθρωπον υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ σάρ κας , καὶ ἄνθρωπον σάρκας θυγατρὸς αὑτοῦ
That a man should eat the flesh of his own son, and a man the flesh of his own daughter.
就是人要吃自己兒子的肉,人也要吃自己女兒的肉。
1:2934⧉ ⤴︎
Ἡ γὰρ πολιορκία κατεσκεύασε τὸν λιμόν·
For the siege brought about the famine;
因為那圍困造成了饑荒;
1:2935⧉ ⤴︎
ὁ δὲ ἀνθρωπείων σωμάτων μεταλαβεῖν κατηνάγκασεν
and the famine constrained them to partake of human bodies.
而那饑荒逼使他們去吃人的身體。
1:2936⧉ ⤴︎
Ἐγενόμεθα , φησὶν , ἐπίχαρτοι καὶ τοῖς γειτονεύουσιν ἔθνεσι
We have become, he says, an object of gloating even to the nations that are our neighbours.
他說,我們竟成了連鄰近列國都幸災樂禍的對象。

Καὶ ἐγενήθημεν ὑποκάτω καὶ οὐκ ἐπάνω , τουτέστι δοῦλοι καὶ οὐ δεσπόται
And we have become underneath and not on top—that is, slaves and not masters.
我們也成了在下的,而不是在上的——這就是說,成了奴僕,而不是主人。

Εἶτα τὴν αἰτίαν ἐπιφέρουσιν , Ὅτι ἡμαρτήκαμεν Κυρίῳ τῷ Θεῷ ἡμῶν , πρὸς τὸ μὴ ὑπακούειν τῆς φωνῆς αὐτοῦ . Πάλιν τῇ θείᾳ ψήφῳ τὸ δίκαιον ἀπονείμαντες , σφίσιν αὐτοῖς ἀπονέμουσι τὴν αἰσχύνην
Then they add the cause: Because we have sinned against the Lord our God, in not hearkening to His voice. Again, having assigned the justice to the divine sentence, they assign to themselves the shame.
然後他們述說緣由:因為我們得罪了主我們的神,不肯聽從祂的聲音。他們再次將公義歸於神聖的判決,卻將羞愧歸於自己。
1:2939⧉ ⤴︎
Πολλάκις γὰρ ἀπειλήσαντι τῷ Θεῷ , καὶ ταῦτα διὰ τῶν προ φητῶν προθεσπίσαντι , οὐχ ἥξαμεν πρὸς τὸν Αἰώ νιον ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ἡμῶν , ἀλλ' ἀντιτείνοντες δι ετελέσαμεν
For though God had often threatened, and had foretold these things through the prophets, we did not turn to the Eternal One in our days, but continued resisting.
因為神雖屢次警告,並藉眾先知預先宣告了這些事,我們在我們的日子裡卻沒有歸向那永恆者,反倒始終抗拒。

Καὶ ἐγρηγόρησε Κύριος ἐπὶ τοῖς κακοῖς οἷς ἐπήγαγεν ἐφ' ἡμᾶς
And the Lord kept watch over the evils which He brought upon us.
於是主便警醒看守那祂所降在我們身上的災禍。

Ἐγρήγορσιν Θεοῦ τὴν τιμωρίαν καλεῖ
He calls the punishment the awakening of God.
他將這懲罰稱為神的甦醒。

Τὴν γὰρ μακροθυμίαν αὐτοῦ ὕπνον ἔθος τῇ θείᾳ Γραφῇ καλεῖν
For it is the custom of divine Scripture to call His long-suffering a sleep.
因為神聖的經文慣於將祂的恆久忍耐稱為睡眠。

Παραβάντας γὰρ , καὶ ἰαθῆναι μὴ βουληθέντας , ἐκόλασεν
For those who transgressed and were unwilling to be healed, He chastised.
因為那些干犯律法、又不願得醫治的人,祂加以懲治。
1:2944⧉ ⤴︎
Εἶτα ποτνιώμενοι ἀντιβολοῦσι , καὶ ἀνα μιμνήσκουσι τῆς παλαιᾶς ἐλευθερίας , ἧς ἔτυχον οἱ πατέρες αὐτῶν , τῆς πικρᾶς τῶν Αἰγυπτίων ἀπαλλα γέντες δουλείας
Then, lamenting, they entreat Him, and call to remembrance the ancient freedom which their fathers obtained when they were delivered from the bitter bondage of the Egyptians.
然後他們哀哭懇求,並追念他們列祖所得的古時的自由,就是脫離埃及人苦毒奴役時所享的自由。

Ἀναμιμνήσκουσι δὲ καὶ τῶν γεγε νημένων θαυμάτων
And they also call to remembrance the wonders that had been wrought.
他們又追念從前所行的一切奇事。

Προφέρουσι δὲ καὶ τὰς οἰκείας πλημμελείας , καὶ βοῶσιν·
They also set forth their own transgressions, and cry aloud:

'We have sinned, we have acted impiously, we have done wrong, O Lord our God, against all Thy ordinances.'
「主我們的神啊,我們得罪了祢,我們行了不敬虔的事,我們在祢一切的律例上行了不義。」

Πᾶσάν σου , φησὶ , παρέβημεν ἐντολὴν , πάντα πεπατήκαμεν νόμον
'We have transgressed,' he says, 'Thine every commandment, we have trampled underfoot every law.'
他說:「我們違背了祢一切的誡命,踐踏了一切的律法。」

Ἀποστραφήτω ὁ θυμός σου ἀφ' ἡμῶν , ὅτι κατελείφθημεν ὀλίγοι ἀπὸ πολλῶν , ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν , οὗ διέσπειρας ἡμᾶς ἐκεῖ
'Let Thy wrath be turned away from us, for we are left few out of many among the nations, whither Thou hast scattered us.'
「求祢使祢的忿怒離開我們,因為我們在祢分散我們所到的列國中,從眾多之數只剩下寥寥數人。」

Ὁμολογοῦμεν τῆς τιμωρίας τὸ δίκαιον
'We confess the justice of the punishment.'

Στῆναι δὲ ταύτην ἀντιβο λοῦμεν·
'But we beseech that it may cease;'
