εἰς ὀλίγους γὰρ περιέστημεν οἱ πάλαι τῇ ψάμμῳ παραβαλλόμενοι
'for we who once were likened to the sand have been reduced to a few.'
「因為我們這些從前多如海沙的人,如今只剩下寥寥數人。」

Εἰσάκουσον , Κύριε , τῆς προσευχῆς ἡμῶν , καὶ τῆς δεήσεως ἡμῶν , καὶ ἐξελοῦ ἡμᾶς ἕνεκέν σου
'Hearken, O Lord, unto our prayer and unto our supplication, and deliver us for Thine own sake.'

Οὐχ ἡμεῖς ἄξιοι , ἀλλὰ σὺ φιλάνθρωπος·
'Not that we are worthy, but that Thou art loving toward mankind;'

χρη ματίζομεν δὲ καὶ σὸς λαός·
'and we are also called Thy people;'

'therefore shall we enjoy Thy forbearance.'

'And give us grace before the face of those who have carried us into exile.' That they may not hate us, but let us go.
「求祢使我們在擄掠我們的人面前蒙恩。」好叫他們不恨我們,反倒容我們離去。

'That all the earth may know that Thou art the Lord our God, and that Thy name is called upon Israel and his kindred.'

The reversal of our misfortunes shall become an occasion of godliness for others.

For they shall learn the might of Thee, our God.

'O Lord, look down from Thy holy house, and give heed unto us.'

Οἶκον ἅγιον τὸν ἐν Ἱεροσολύμοις καλεῖ·
By 'holy house' he means the one in Jerusalem;

for in that place He made His own appearing.

Εἰώθασιν οἱ χαλεπαίνοντες μύειν τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς , ὅταν οἱ ἠδικηκότες ὀφθῶσι , καὶ τὰς κόρας ἀπο στρέφειν τῶν ἡμαρτηκότων παρακαλούντων·
Those who are angered are wont to shut their eyes when the wrongdoers appear, and to turn away their pupils when those who have sinned entreat them;
動怒的人習慣於,當那些行不義的人出現時就閉上眼睛,當犯罪的人懇求時就把眼珠轉開;

ἀνθρω πίνως τοίνυν ταῦτα τεθείκασιν
so they have set these things down after the manner of men.
所以他們是按著人的樣式這樣說的。

Οὐ γὰρ σύνθετον τὸ θεῖον , ἀλλ' ἁπλοῦν καὶ ἀπερίγραφον
For the Divine is not composite, but simple and uncircumscribed.

Τούτοις προστιθέασιν Ὅτι οὐχ οἱ τεθνεῶτες ὑμνεῖν σε πεφύκασιν . Ἀλλ' ἴδιον τοῦτο τῶν ζώντων
To these they add: 'For it is not the dead that are made to praise Thee; but this belongs properly to the living.'
他們又加上說:「因為死人不能頌讚祢;這乃是活人所特有的事。」

ιηʹ Ψυχὴ γὰρ ἡ λυπουμένη ἐπὶ τὸ μέγεθος βα δίζει·
(verse 18) 'For the soul that is grieved walks toward Thy greatness;'

πνεῦμα κύπτον καὶ ἀσθενοῦν , καὶ ὀφθαλ μοὶ οἱ ἐκλείποντες , καὶ ἡ ψυχὴ ἡ πεινῶσα , δώ σουσί σοι δόξαν καὶ δικαιοσύνην , Κύριε
'the spirit that is bowed down and grown weak, and the eyes that fail, and the hungering soul, shall give Thee glory and righteousness, O Lord.'
「那俯伏軟弱的靈,那昏花的眼目,那飢餓的靈魂,主啊,都要將榮耀和公義歸給祢。」

Οἱ μεγί σταις περιπεσόντες συμφοραῖς , καὶ ἐν ἀπογνώσει τῶν κρειττόνων γενόμενοι·
Those who have fallen into the greatest calamities, and who have come to despair of better things;
那些陷入極大災難、又對更美之事絕望的人;

εἶτά τινος μεταβολῆς ἀπολαύσαντες , τὴν σὴν γνησίως ἀνυμνοῦσι φιλαν θρωπίαν
and then, having enjoyed some change, sincerely hymn Thy love for mankind.
然後,一旦得享某種轉變,便真誠地歌頌祢對人的仁愛。

Ὅτι οὔτε ταῖς τῶν πατέρων , οὔτε ταῖς ἡμετέραις δικαιοσύναις θαῤῥοῦντες , οἴκτου τινὸς ἀντιβολοῦμεν τυχεῖν
'For it is not by trusting in the righteous deeds of the fathers, nor in our own, that we beseech to obtain some compassion.'
「因為我們不是倚仗列祖的義行,也不是倚仗我們自己的義行,而懇求得著憐憫。」

οὗτοι γὰρ ἡμῖν παρῄνουν τὴν ὑπὸ τῆς δικαίας σου κρίσεως δέξα σθαι παιδείαν , καὶ δουλεῦσαι τῷ βασιλεῖ Βαβυλῶνος·
'for these were they who exhorted us to receive the discipline that comes from Thy just judgment, and to serve the king of Babylon;'
「因為正是這些人勸告我們,要領受從祢公義判斷而來的管教,並要服事巴比倫王;」

καὶ διετελέσαμεν ἀντιλέγοντες
'yet we continued to gainsay them.'

Καὶ οὐ μόνον ἡμεῖς οἱ ζῶντες παρεδόθημεν δουλείᾳ·
'And not only were we the living delivered up to bondage;'

ἀλλὰ καὶ τῶν πατέρων ἡμῶν οἱ τάφοι , καὶ μέντοι καὶ τῶν βασι λέων , ἀνεσπάσθησαν ἐκ βάθρων , ὡς τὰ ἐκείνων ὀστᾶ ὕπαιθρα ἐῤῥῖφθαι , καὶ ταῖς ἐναντίαις τοῦ ἀέρος μεταβολαῖς διαφθείρεσθαι
'but even the tombs of our fathers, and indeed of our kings, were torn up from their foundations, so that their bones were cast out under the open sky and are destroyed by the adverse changes of the air.'
「就連我們列祖的墳墓,甚至列王的墳墓,也都從根基被掘出,以致他們的骸骨暴露在露天之下,被氣候惡劣的變遷所毀壞。」

Καὶ ἀπεθάνοσαν ἐν πόνοις πονηροῖς , ἐν λιμῷ , καὶ ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ , καὶ ἐν ἀποστολῇ
'And they died in grievous pains, in famine, and by the sword, and in banishment.'
「他們在痛苦的勞苦中死了,或因饑荒,或因刀劍,或因被擄放逐。」

Οὐ μόνον δὲ ἡμᾶς λιμῷ , καὶ σφαγῇ , καὶ δουλείᾳ παρέδωκας·
'And not only didst Thou deliver us to famine, and slaughter, and bondage;'

ἀποστολὴν γὰρ τὴν αἰχμαλωσίαν καλεῖ·
for he calls the captivity a 'banishment;'

'but Thou hast also rendered desolate Thy holy temple, which for Thy name's sake had become renowned and conspicuous.'

Καὶ ταῦτα μέντοι οὐ πρὸς ἀξίαν τῆς ἡμετέρας ἀσε βείας ἐπήγαγες , ἀλλ' ἐκέρασας φιλανθρωπίᾳ τὸ δίκαιον
'And yet these things Thou didst bring upon us not according to the desert of our impiety, but Thou didst temper justice with love for mankind.'
「然而祢降這些事在我們身上,並非照我們不敬虔所應得的,乃是以仁愛調和了公義。」

Ἐποίησας γὰρ , φησὶν , εἰς ἡμᾶς , Κύριε ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν , πᾶσαν ἐπιείκειάν σου , καὶ πάντα οἰκτιρμόν σου τὸν μέγαν
'For Thou hast done unto us, O Lord our God,' he says, 'all Thy clemency, and all Thy great compassion.'
他說:「主我們的神啊,因為祢向我們施行了祢一切的寬容,和祢一切的大憐憫。」

Ἀναμιμνήσκουσι δὲ καὶ τῶν ἐν τῷ νόμῳ γεγραμμένων ἀπειλῶν·
They also call to remembrance the threats written in the Law;
他們又追念律法中所記載的一切警戒;

διαφερόν τως γὰρ ἐν τῇ ᾠδῇ τὰ συμβησόμενα αὐτοῖς προεῖπε κακά·
for especially in the Song did He foretell the evils that would befall them;

Ὀδόντας θηρίων ἀποστελῶ εἰς αὐτούς .. Καὶ διδάσκων , ὡς τοὺς πολεμίους θῆρας καλεῖ , ἐπ ήγαγεν·
'I will send against them the teeth of wild beasts.' And teaching that He calls the enemies 'beasts,' he added:
「我要打發野獸的牙齒臨到他們。」為要教訓人知道祂是將仇敵稱為「野獸」,他又加上說:

ἀναμιμνήσκουσι δὲ καὶ τῶν ἀγαθῶν ὑποσχέ σεως
and they also call to remembrance the promise of good things.
他們又追念那美善之事的應許。

Εἶπας γὰρ , φησὶ , μεταμελομένοις ὀρέξειν τὸν ἔλεον , καὶ τῆς αἰχμαλωσίας ἐλευθερώσειν , καὶ τὴν προτέραν ἀποδώσειν ἐλευθερίαν
'For Thou hast said,' he says, 'that Thou wouldest extend mercy to those who repent, and wouldest free them from captivity, and wouldest restore their former liberty.'
他說:「因為祢曾說過,祢必向悔改的人施憐憫,救他們脫離被擄之地,並使他們恢復從前的自由。」

Κύριε παντοκράτωρ ὁ Θεὸς τοῦ Ἰσραήλ·
'O Lord Almighty, the God of Israel;'

ψυχὴ ἐν στενοῖς , καὶ πνεῦμα ἀκηδιῶν κέκραγε πρὸς σέ
'a soul in straits, and a spirit that is despondent, cries out unto Thee.'
「困苦的靈魂,喪膽的靈,向祢呼求。」

Τὴν ὑπερβολὴν , φησὶ , βλέπω τῶν συμ φορῶν , καὶ τῆς ἀθυμίας τὸ μέγεθος
'I behold,' he says, 'the excess of my misfortunes, and the greatness of my dejection.'
他說:「我看見我苦難的深重,和我沮喪的重大。」

Ἄκουσον , Κύριε , καὶ ἐλέησον , ὅτι Θεὸς ἐλεήμων εἶ·
'Hear, O Lord, and have mercy, for Thou art a merciful God;'
「主啊,求祢垂聽,並施憐憫,因為祢是有憐憫的神;」
1:2994⧉ ⤴︎
καὶ ἐλέησον , ὅτι ἡμάρτομεν ἐναντίον σου . Πέλαγος ἔχεις φιλανθρωπίας , ἄβυσσον ἔχεις ἐλέου , ὄρεξον τοῦτον τοῖς δεομένοις·
'and have mercy, for we have sinned before Thee.' Thou hast an ocean of love for mankind, Thou hast an abyss of mercy; extend it to those who beseech Thee;
「求祢施憐憫,因為我們在祢面前犯了罪。」祢有仁愛的汪洋,祢有憐憫的深淵,求祢將這憐憫賜給懇求祢的人;

τοῖς γὰρ ἡμαρτηκόσι καὶ μεταμελουμένοις ἁρμόττει ὁ ἔλεος
for mercy befits those who have sinned and repented.

Ὅτι σὺ καθήμενος τὸν αἰῶνα , καὶ ἡμεῖς ἀπολλύμενοι τὸν αἰῶνα
'For Thou sittest enthroned for ever, and we perish for ever.'

Σὺ , φησὶν , αἰώνιος , ἡμεῖς δὲ πρόσκαιροι·
'Thou,' he says, 'art eternal, but we are transitory;'

ἡμῶν δὲ ὁ βίος μικρῷ μέτρῳ μετρεῖται
'and our life is measured by a small measure.'

The phrase 'who sittest for ever' he has set down to this effect.

The word has shown clearly the immortality of the soul.

Καὶ τῶν υἱῶν , τῶν ἡμαρτηκότων ἐναν τίον σου . Σὺ , φησὶν , εἶπας , Τῶν φαγόντων τὸν ὄμφακα αἱμωδιάσουσιν οἱ ὀδόντες . Εἰς τὰ μειράκια τοίνυν ἀπόβλεψαι τὰ ἁμαρτίας ἐλεύθερα , καὶ μὴ μνησθῇς τῶν πατρῴων ἁμαρτημάτων
'And of the sons of those who have sinned before Thee.' 'Thou,' he says, 'hast said, The teeth of those who have eaten the sour grape shall be set on edge.' Look therefore upon the youths who are free of sin, and remember not the sins of the fathers.
「以及那些在祢面前犯罪之人子孫的祈禱。」他說:「祢曾說過,吃酸葡萄的人牙齒必酸倒。」所以求祢眷顧那些沒有罪的少年人,不要記念列祖的罪孽。
1:3004⧉ ⤴︎
Ἀλλὰ μνή σθητι τῆς χειρός σου , καὶ τοῦ ὀνόματός σου ἐν τῷ καιρῷ τούτῳ . Τῇ συνήθει , φησὶ , χρῆσαι θαυμα τουργίᾳ , καὶ ὡς ἐξήγαγες ἐξ Αἰγύπτου , οὕτως ἐλευ θέρωσον ἐκ Βαβυλῶνος
'But remember Thy hand, and Thy name in this time.' 'Employ,' he says, 'Thy wonted wonder-working, and as Thou didst bring us out of Egypt, so free us from Babylon.'
「但求祢在這時候記念祢的手和祢的名。」他說:「求祢施展祢慣常的奇妙作為,正如祢曾領我們出埃及,照樣救我們脫離巴比倫。」

Ὅτι σὺ εἶ Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν
'For Thou art the Lord our God.'
「因為祢是主我們的神。」

Ὅτι σὺ εἶ ὁ αὐτὸς , καὶ οὐκ ἠλλοίωσαι·
'For Thou art the same, and art not changed;'
「因為祢是一樣的,並不改變;」

τὴν αὐτὴν ἔχεις δύναμιν , τὴν αὐτὴν φιλανθρωπίαν
'Thou hast the same power, the same love for mankind.'

Αἰνέσομέν σε , Κύριε , (ζʹ .) ὅτι διὰ τοῦτο ἔδωκας τὸν φόβον σου ἐπὶ καρδίαν ἡμῶν , τοῦ ἐπικλη θῆναι τὸ ὄνομά σου
'We will praise Thee, O Lord, (verse 7) because for this cause Thou hast put Thy fear upon our heart, that we should call upon Thy name.'
「主啊,我們要頌讚祢,(第七節)因為祢為此將敬畏祢的心賜在我們心裡,使我們求告祢的名。」

Ἔδειξε τῆς τιμωρίας τὴν ὄνησιν·
He has shown the benefit of the punishment;
他顯明了這懲罰的益處;
1:3010⧉ ⤴︎
παιδευθέντες γὰρ , φησὶν , ἐπεστράφημεν , Καὶ αἰνέσομέν σε ἐν τῇ ἀποικίᾳ ἡμῶν·
'for having been chastened,' he says, 'we turned back. And we will praise Thee in the land of our sojourning.'
他說:「因為我們受了管教,就回轉歸向祢。並且我們要在我們被擄之地頌讚祢。」
1:3011⧉ ⤴︎
ὅτι ἀπ εστρέψαμεν ἐπὶ καρδίαν ἡμῶν πᾶσαν ἀδικίαν πατέ ρων ἡμῶν , τῶν ἡμαρτηκότων ἐναντίον σου . Οὐχ ἑπόμεθα , φησὶ , τοῖς πατράσιν , οὐδὲ τὴν ἐκείνων παιδείαν ὁδεύομεν , ἀλλὰ τοῖς σοῖς ἀκολουθοῦμεν νόμοις
'For we have turned back to our heart every iniquity of our fathers, who sinned before you.' We do not follow, he says, our fathers, nor do we walk in their manner of discipline, but we follow your laws.
「因為我們已將列祖一切的罪孽——他們在你面前所犯的罪——都放在心上而回轉。」他說,我們不再效法列祖,也不行他們所受的管教之路,乃是遵從你的律法。
1:3012⧉ ⤴︎
Βλέπε τοίνυν ἡμῶν τὰ ὀνείδη , καὶ τὴν χαλε πὴν δουλείαν , ἣν ὑπομένομεν διά τε τὴν ἡμετέραν ἀσέβειαν , καὶ τὴν πατρῴαν παρανομίαν
'Behold, therefore, our reproaches, and the grievous servitude which we endure' both because of our own impiety and because of our fathers' transgression of the law.
他說:「求你看顧我們所受的羞辱,並我們所忍受的苦難奴役」——這苦役乃因我們自己的不敬虔,又因列祖違背律法而來。

Ταύτην ὁ θαυμάσιος Βαροὺχ τὴν προσευχὴν τοῦ λαοῦ ἐν τεθεικὼς τῷ συγγράμματι , τίθησι καὶ τὴν θείαν ἀπόκρισιν
The admirable Baruch, having set down this prayer of the people in his writing, also sets down the divine answer.
那可敬佩的巴錄,在他的著作中記下了百姓這篇禱告,又記下了神的回應。

ἐντολὰς ζωῆς , ἐνωτίσασθε γνῶναι φρόνησιν
'the commandments of life; give ear, that you may know understanding.'

'What is it, O Israel, why is it that you are in the land of your enemies? You have grown old in a strange land;'

What is the paradox? The people who bore my name, the renowned, the much-celebrated, now a slave instead of free, dwelling among men of another race and of impiety, has become like the dead through the excess of its evils.
這何等奇異?那曾稱為我子民的、那顯赫的、那名聲遠播的,如今卻淪為奴僕而非自由之人,與異族並不敬虔之人同住,竟因禍患之極多而彷彿死人一般。

Then he teaches the causes of these things.

It is to yourself, he says, that you have become the procurer of these present evils;

δέον γάρ σε ποδηγῷ χρήσασθαι τῷ νόμῳ , ὃν ἡ τῆς σοφίας σοι πηγὴ προσενήνοχε , ματαίοις ἠκολούθησας λογισ μοῖς
for whereas you ought to have used as your guide the law which the fountain of wisdom brought to you, you instead followed vain reasonings.
你本當以智慧的泉源所賜給你的律法為引導,你卻隨從了虛妄的思念。

Μάθε , ποῦ ἐστι φρόνησις , ποῦ ἐστιν ἰσχὺς , ποῦ ἐστι σύνεσις , τοῦ γνῶναι ἅμα ποῦ ἐστι μακροβίωσις καὶ ζωὴ , ποῦ ἐστι φῶς ὀφθαλμῶν , καὶ εἰρήνη
'Learn where is understanding, where is strength, where is discernment, that you may know at the same time where is length of days and life, where is light of the eyes, and peace.'
「你要學習明白智慧在哪裡,力量在哪裡,聰明在哪裡,好一同認識長壽與生命在哪裡,眼目之光與平安在哪裡。」

Νῦν γοῦν , ἐπειδήπερ οὐ πρότερον , ζήτησον καὶ γνῶθι , τίς ὁ τούτων χορηγὸς τῶν ἀγαθῶν
Now at least, since not before, seek and know who is the giver of these good things.
如今至少,既然以往未曾如此,你就當尋求並認識這一切美善之物的賜予者是誰。

καὶ τίς εἰσῆλ θεν εἰς τοὺς θησαυροὺς αὐτῆς; Τουτέστι , τῆς φρονήσεως
'and who entered into her treasuries?' That is, the treasuries of understanding.
「又有誰進入她的寶庫呢?」就是聰明的寶庫。

Ποῦ εἰσιν οἱ ἄρχοντες τῶν ἐθνῶν , οἱ κυριεύοντες τῶν θηρίων τῶν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς , οἱ ἐν τοῖς ὀρνέοις τοῦ οὐρανοῦ ἐμπαίζοντες , καὶ τὸ ἀργύριον θησαυρίζοντες , καὶ τὸ χρυσίον , ᾧ ἐπεποίθεισαν οἱ ἄνθρωποι , καὶ οὐκ ἔστι τέλος τῆς κτήσεως αὐτῶν , οἱ τὸ ἀργύριον τεκταί νοντες , καὶ μεριμνῶντες , καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ἐξεύρεσις τῶν ἔργων αὐτῶν; Σύγκρισιν εὐσεβείας ποιεῖται καὶ πλούτου καὶ δυναστείας , καὶ παρακελεύεται τῶν ἀνομωτάτων ἀναμνησθῆναι βασιλέων , οἳ κόρον οὐκ ἔσχον τοῦ πλούτου
'Where are the rulers of the nations, those who lord it over the beasts upon the earth, who make sport with the birds of heaven, who hoard up silver and the gold in which men trusted, and there is no end of their acquiring, who work the silver and take anxious thought, and there is no finding out of their works?' He makes a comparison between piety and wealth and power, and exhorts them to remember the most lawless of kings, who had no satiety of wealth.
「列國的官長在哪裡呢?就是那些轄制地上走獸的,那些戲弄空中飛鳥的,那些積蓄銀子和金子、為人所倚靠、貲財無窮無盡的,那些鑄造銀子、心中掛慮、所行之事無從測度的,如今都在哪裡呢?」他將敬虔與財富、權勢作了比較,並勸人回想那些最不法的君王,他們對財富永不知足。

These men, he says, gained mastery even over the beasts and the birds by the art of hunting.

'They vanished, and went down to Hades, and others rose up in their stead.'

'but the way of knowledge they knew not.'

'Neither did they understand her paths, nor did they lay hold of her.'

And those men, he says, were given over to corruption, and their descendants were indeed numbered among the living and partook of the radiance of the perceptible light;
他說,那些人被交付於敗壞,他們的後裔固然被算在活人之中,也分享了可見之光的照耀;

οὐκ ἐδέξαντο δὲ συν έσεως καὶ θεογνωσίας ἀκτῖνα
but they did not receive the ray of understanding and of the knowledge of God.

He also enumerates those who pride themselves upon wisdom—the Canaanites, and the Idumeans, and the Ishmaelites;
他又列舉那些以智慧自誇的人——迦南人、以東人和以實瑪利人;

Θαιμὰν γάρ ἐστιν Ἰδουμαία , Ἄγαρ δὲ μήτηρ τοῦ Ἰσμαήλ·
for Teman is Idumea, and Hagar is the mother of Ishmael;
因為提幔就是以東,夏甲是以實瑪利的母親;

for they continued in slavery to impiety.

'O Israel, how great is the house of God, and how spacious the place of his possession!'
「以色列啊,神的殿何等廣大!他所擁有之地何等寬闊!」

Μέγας , καὶ οὐκ ἔχει τελευτὴν , ὑψηλὸς καὶ ἀμέτρητος
'It is great, and has no end; lofty and immeasurable.'

Μὴ τοῦτον , φησὶ , νόμιζε εἶναι τοῦ Θεοῦ τὸν νεὼν , ὃν Σολομὼν κατεσκεύασεν·
Do not suppose, he says, that this is the temple of God which Solomon built;

ὁ γὰρ τοῦ Θεοῦ ναὸς παμμεγέθης τίς ἐστι , καὶ ἀμέτρητος , καὶ μέντοι καὶ ἀνώλεθρος·
for the temple of God is something of vast magnitude, and immeasurable, and indeed also imperishable.
因為神的殿乃是極其廣大、不可測度、並且是不朽壞的。

Εἶτα τῶν γιγάντων μνημονεύσας , τῶν ἐπὶ μεγέθει σώμα τος πολυθρυλλήτων γεγενημένων , ἐπήγαγεν κζʹ , κηʹ
Then, having made mention of the giants, who had become much-talked-of for the greatness of their bodies, he added (verses 27, 28):

'God did not choose these, nor did he give them the way of knowledge.'

'And they perished through their own lack of counsel.'

These things, however, he recounts, wishing to show that God honored them above all the nations, and to them alone gave a written law, and set prophets over them, and deemed them worthy of all care, and later indeed, having become man, came even to them;
然而他敘述這些事,乃是要表明神看重他們過於萬國,惟獨賜給他們成文的律法,又立先知監管他們,以各樣的眷顧待他們,並且後來甚至成為人,親自來到他們中間;

for this is what he teaches by making it plain through what follows.

'Who has gone up into heaven, and taken her, and brought her down from the clouds?' That is, wisdom (verse 30).
「誰升到天上,取了她,又從雲中將她帶下來呢?」就是智慧(第三十節)。

'Who has crossed over beyond the sea, and found her, and will bring her for pure gold?' She is not, he says, purchasable, nor is she simply set forth for merchants (verse 31).
「誰渡過海到那邊,尋見了她,又肯用精金將她買來呢?」他說,她不是可買賣的,也不是隨隨便便擺在商人面前的(第三十一節)。

'There is none who knows her way, nor any who ponders her path.'

She surpasses, he says, human reasoning.

'No other shall be reckoned in comparison with him.' He is not making a comparison of Son and Father, but the word casts out those who are called gods.

And concerning him it says in Proverbs:

'The Lord created me as the beginning of his ways for his works.' For it is not God the Word who says these things, but the wisdom fashioned by him, which belongs to God the Word.

1:3084⧉ ⤴︎
οὗ δὴ χάριν αὐτοὶ μὲν πόῤῥω τῶν ἀγαθῶν καθεστήκασι , τῶν δὲ θεοσδότων ἀγαθῶν ἀπολαύει τὰ ἔθνη
For this very reason they themselves stand far removed from good things, while the nations enjoy the God-given blessings.
正因如此,他們自己遠離了福分,而列國卻享受神所賜的美好。
1:3085⧉ ⤴︎
Μακάριοί ἐσμεν , Ἰσραὴλ , ὅτι τὰ ἀρεστὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῖν γνωστά ἐστι
Blessed are we, O Israel, because the things that are pleasing to God are made known to us.
以色列啊,我們是有福的,因為神所喜悅的事已向我們顯明。
1:3086⧉ ⤴︎
Οὐκ ἔχομεν , φησὶ , πρόφασιν ἀγνοίας , δεδήλωκε γὰρ ἡμῖν τὰ ἀρέσκοντα
We have, he says, no pretext of ignorance, for He has declared to us the things that please Him.
他說:我們沒有無知的藉口,因為祂已把祂所喜悅的事向我們指明。
1:3087⧉ ⤴︎
Εἶτα παραθαῤῥύνει , καὶ διδάσκει , ὡς παρεδόθησαν εἰς δουλείαν τηνικαῦτα , οὐ παντελῶς αὐτοὺς ἀποστρα φέντος τοῦ τῶν ὅλων Θεοῦ , ἀλλὰ διὰ τῆς παιδείας αὐ τοὺς εὐεργετῆσαι πειραθέντος·
Then he encourages them and teaches that they were at that time handed over into slavery, not because the God of all had utterly turned away from them, but because He sought to do them good through discipline.
接著他鼓勵他們,並教導說:他們那時被交於奴役之中,並非因為萬有的神完全轉離了他們,而是因為祂試圖藉著管教施恩於他們。
1:3088⧉ ⤴︎
τὸν γὰρ εὐεργέτην , φη σὶ , καταλιπόντες , τὴν τῶν δαιμόνων προτετιμήκατε λατρείαν·
For you forsook your Benefactor, he says, and preferred the worship of demons;
他說:因為你們離棄了那施恩的主,反倒看重了對邪靈的敬拜;
1:3089⧉ ⤴︎
πρόξενοι δὲ καὶ τῇ θρεψαμένῃ τῆς ἐρη μίας ἐγένεσθε
and you became authors of desolation even to her who nurtured you.
並且你們竟使那養育你們的成了荒涼。
1:3090⧉ ⤴︎
Μηδεὶς ἐπιχαιρέτω μοι τῇ χήρᾳ καταλει φθείσῃ ὑπὸ λαῶν
Let no one exult over me, the widow forsaken by peoples.
不要有人因我這被眾民離棄的寡婦而幸災樂禍。
1:3091⧉ ⤴︎
Χήραν ἑαυτὴν καλεῖ , ὡς ἔρημον τῆς θείας γεγενημένην κηδεμονίας
She calls herself a widow, as one who has been left bereft of the divine care.
她稱自己為寡婦,因為她成了失去神眷顧的孤零者。
1:3092⧉ ⤴︎
Ἠρη μώθην διὰ τὰς ἁμαρτίας τῶν τέκνων μου . Ἀπαρι θμεῖται δὲ καὶ ταύτας , καὶ διηγεῖται τὴν τῶν πολε μίων ὠμότητα
I was made desolate because of the sins of my children. And she enumerates these very sins, and recounts the cruelty of the enemies.
我因我兒女的罪而變為荒涼。她也一一數點這些罪,並敘述仇敵的殘暴。
1:3093⧉ ⤴︎
Οὐκ ᾐσχύνθησαν , φησὶ , πρεσβύτην , οὐδὲ παιδίου ἠλέησαν
They had no shame, she says, before the aged man, nor did they show mercy to the child.
她說:他們不敬重老年人,也不憐憫孩童。
1:3094⧉ ⤴︎
( ιϛʹ .) Καὶ ἀπήγαγον τοὺς ἀγα πητοὺς τῆς χήρας , καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν θυγατέρων τὴν μόνην ἠρήμωσαν
(16) And they led away the beloved ones of the widow, and left her, of her daughters, all alone desolate.
(十六節)他們擄去了寡婦所疼愛的兒女,又使她在眾女之中孤獨一人、盡都荒涼。
1:3095⧉ ⤴︎
Μόνην ἑαυτὴν , ὡς ἡγοῦμαι , καλεῖ , διὰ τὸ ἐν αὐτῇ μόνῃ εἶναι τοῦ Θεοῦ τὸν νεὼν , ἢ τάχα ἐπειδὴ μόνῃ κατελείφθη , τῶν Ἀσσυρίων τὰς ἄλλας πόλεις πορθησάντων
She calls herself alone, as I suppose, because in her alone was the temple of God; or perhaps because she alone was left, when the Assyrians had sacked the other cities.
我認為她稱自己為孤獨一人,是因為唯獨在她那裏有神的殿;又或許是因為當亞述人劫掠其他城邑時,唯獨剩下她一座。
1:3096⧉ ⤴︎
Εἶτα λέγει , ὡς αὐτὴ μὲν ἐπαμῦναι οὐ δύναται , ὑπισχνεῖται δὲ τοῦ Θεοῦ τὴν βοήθειαν
Then she says that she herself is unable to give aid, but she promises the help of God.
接著她說:她自己無力施援,卻應許神的幫助。
1:3097⧉ ⤴︎
Θρηνεῖ μέντοι τὴν παροῦσαν ἐρημίαν
Yet she laments the present desolation.
然而她為眼前的荒涼哀哭。
1:3098⧉ ⤴︎
Κατελείφθην γὰρ , φησὶν , ἔρημος
For I have been left, she says, desolate.
她說:因為我被撇下,成了荒涼。
1:3099⧉ ⤴︎
( κʹ .) Καὶ ἐξ εδυσάμην τὴν στολὴν τῆς εἰρήνης
(20) And I have put off the robe of peace.
(二十節)我已脫去平安的袍子。
1:3100⧉ ⤴︎
Καὶ ἐνεδυσά μην τὸν σάκκον τῆς δεήσεώς μου , καὶ κράξω . Ἀλλ' οὐχ οἱ τοῖχοι ταῦτα ἔδρων ἢ ἔλεγον , ἀλλ' οἱ ἐνοικοῦντες
And I have put on the sackcloth of my supplication, and I will cry out. But it was not the walls that did or said these things, but those who dwelt within.
我已披上我懇求的麻衣,我要呼求。然而作這些事、說這些話的並非牆垣,乃是住在其中的人。
1:3101⧉ ⤴︎
Εἶτα παρακελεύεται αὐτοῖς τῇ τοῦ Θεοῦ θαῤῥῆσαι φιλανθρωπίᾳ , καὶ αἰτῆσαι τὸν ἔλεον·
Then she exhorts them to take courage in the loving-kindness of God, and to ask for His mercy;
接著她勸勉他們,要仰賴神的慈愛,並求祂的憐憫;
1:3102⧉ ⤴︎
Καὶ γὰρ ἐγὼ , φησὶν , ἀναμένω τὴν ὑμετέραν ἐπάνοδον
For I too, she says, am awaiting your return.
她說:因為我也在等候你們歸回。
1:3103⧉ ⤴︎
Ἐξέπεμψα γὰρ ὑμᾶς μετὰ πένθους καὶ κλαυθμοῦ·
For I sent you forth with mourning and weeping;
因為我曾以悲傷哭泣打發你們出去;
1:3104⧉ ⤴︎
ἀποδώσει δέ μοι ὁ Θεὸς ὑμᾶς μετὰ χαρ μονῆς καὶ εὐφροσύνης
but God will restore you to me with joy and gladness.
但神必以喜樂歡欣把你們歸還給我。
1:3105⧉ ⤴︎
Πορευόμενοι ἐπορεύοντο , καὶ ἔκλαιον , βάλλοντες τὰ σπέρματα αὑτῶν·
Going forth they went, and wept, as they cast their seed;
他們去的時候一面走一面哭,撒著他們的種子;
1:3106⧉ ⤴︎
ἐρχόμε νοι δὲ ἥξουσιν ἐν ἀγαλλιάσει , αἴροντες τὰ δράγματα αὑτῶν . Λέγει δὲ καὶ τῶν γειτονευόντων ἐθνῶν τήν τε ἐπὶ τῇ αἰχμαλωσίᾳ θυμηδίαν , καὶ τὴν μετὰ τὴν ἐπ άνοδον σκυθρωπότητα
but coming they shall come in rejoicing, carrying their sheaves. And he speaks also of the neighbouring nations' delight over the captivity, and their gloom after the return.
但回來的時候必歡呼而來,帶著他們的禾捆。他也述說鄰近列國因這擄掠而幸災樂禍,以及在歸回之後所生的愁苦。
1:3107⧉ ⤴︎
Παρακελεύεται δὲ αὐτοῖς , ὑπο μεῖναι τὴν ἐπενεχθεῖσαν παιδείαν , καὶ ὑπισχνεῖται τὴν τῶν πραγμάτων μεταβολήν
He exhorts them to endure the discipline that has been laid upon them, and promises a change in their circumstances.
他勸勉他們忍受所加給他們的管教,並應許境遇必有轉變。
1:3108⧉ ⤴︎
Κατεδίωξέ σε , φησὶν , ὁ ἐχθρός σου , καὶ ὄψῃ αὐτοῦ τὴν ἀπώλειαν ἐν τάχει , καὶ ἐπὶ τοῦ τραχήλου αὐτοῦ ἐπιβήσῃ . Ἐχθροὺς καλεῖ Ἰδουμαίους Μωαβίτας , Ἀμμανίτας ,Ἀλλοφύλους
Your enemy has pursued you, he says, and you shall see his destruction speedily, and you shall tread upon his neck. By enemies he means the Idumeans, Moabites, Ammonites, and Philistines.
他說:你的仇敵追趕了你,你必速速看見他的滅亡,並要踏在他的頸項上。他所稱的仇敵是指以東人、摩押人、亞捫人和非利士人。
1:3109⧉ ⤴︎
Οἱ τρυφεροί μου ἐπορεύθησαν ὁδοὺς τρα χείας·
My delicate ones have walked rough roads;
我那嬌養的兒女走了崎嶇的道路;
1:3110⧉ ⤴︎
ἤρθησαν ὡς ποίμνιον ἡρπασμένον ἐχθρῷ
they were carried off like a flock snatched by an enemy.
他們被擄去,如同被仇敵搶奪的羊群。
1:3111⧉ ⤴︎
Τρυφεροὺς καλεῖ τοὺς ἐν εὐπορίᾳ καὶ πλούτῳ , ὡς πεῖραν οὐκ ἔχοντας τῶν λυπηρῶν·
He calls delicate those who lived in ease and wealth, as having no experience of hardships;
他稱那些生活富裕安逸、未曾經歷困苦的人為嬌養之人;
1:3112⧉ ⤴︎
εἶτα παρακελεύ εται αὐτοῖς τῇ μεταμελείᾳ τὴν σωτηρίαν καρπώ σασθαι
then he exhorts them to reap salvation through repentance.
接著他勸勉他們,要藉著悔改而收取救恩。
1:3113⧉ ⤴︎
Ταῦτα ὡς ἐκ προσώπου τῆς Ἱερουσαλὴμ . εἰρηκὼς , αὐτῇ λοιπὸν παρακλητικοὺς προσφέρει λόγους
Having said these things as from the person of Jerusalem, he then addresses to her words of consolation.
他既以耶路撒冷的口吻說了這些話,接下來便向她獻上安慰的言語。
1:3114⧉ ⤴︎
Θάρσει , Ἱερουσαλὴμ , παρακαλέσει σε ὁ ὀνομάσας σε
Take courage, O Jerusalem; He who named you will comfort you.
耶路撒冷啊,你要放心,那給你起名的必安慰你。
1:3115⧉ ⤴︎
Μεταβαλεῖ σοι τὴν συμφορὰν ὁ τὴν προσηγορίαν σοι τεθεικώς·
He who gave you your appellation will change your calamity for you;
那給你起稱號的必為你將災禍轉變;
1:3116⧉ ⤴︎
τουτέστιν , ὁ δημιουργός σου , ὁ πάσης σε πόλεως προτιμήσας
that is, your Maker, who honoured you above every city.
就是你的創造者,那看重你過於一切城邑的。
1:3117⧉ ⤴︎
Ἔδωκαν γὰρ δίκας Βα βυλώνιοι τῆς παρανομίας ἀξίας
For the Babylonians paid penalties worthy of their transgression.
因為巴比倫人為他們的不法付出了應得的懲罰。
1:3118⧉ ⤴︎
Εἶτα διδάσκει , ὡς τὰ οἰκεῖα λοιπὸν ἡ Βαβυλὼν θρηνήσει κακά
Then he teaches that Babylon in turn will bewail her own woes.
接著他教導說:巴比倫反過來必為自己的禍患哀哭。
1:3119⧉ ⤴︎
Περιελῶ γὰρ αὐτῆς , φησὶ , τὸ ἀγαλλία μα τῆς πολυοχλίας αὐτῆς , καὶ τὸ γαυρίαμα αὐτῆς εἰς πένθος ἔσται
For I will take away from her, he says, the exultation of her great multitude, and her arrogance shall be turned into mourning.
他說:因為我必除去她眾民的歡騰,她的驕矜必變為悲哀。
1:3120⧉ ⤴︎
Πῦρ γὰρ ἐπελεύσεται αὐτῇ παρὰ τοῦ Αἰωνίου εἰς ἡμέρας μακρὰς , καὶ κατοικηθήσεται ὑπὸ δαιμονίων τὸν πλείονα χρόνον
For fire shall come upon her from the Eternal for many days, and she shall be inhabited by demons for the greater part of time.
因為從永恆者那裏必有火臨到她,直到多日之久,她大部分的時間必被邪靈所居住。
1:3121⧉ ⤴︎
Ταύτην διὰ Περσῶν τὴν τιμωρίαν ἐδέξατο·
This punishment she received by means of the Persians;
她藉著波斯人的手受了這懲罰;
1:3122⧉ ⤴︎
ἔδειξε δὲ ὁ λόγος , ὡς οὐ παντελῶς αὐτὴν ἀοίκητον ἔσεσθαι προηγόρευσεν , ἀλλ' ἐπὶ πολὺν χρόνον·
and the word has shown that it did not foretell that she would be utterly uninhabited, but for a long time;
這話已表明,它並未預言她會完全無人居住,而是要荒涼許久;
1:3123⧉ ⤴︎
οἰ κεῖται δὲ νῦν ὑπὸ ὀλίγων Ἰουδαίων
and now she is inhabited by a few Jews.
如今她有少數猶太人居住其中。
1:3124⧉ ⤴︎
Περίβλεψαι πρὸς ἀνατολὰς , Ἱερουσαλὴμ , καὶ ἴδε τὴν εὐφροσύνην σου , τὴν παρὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ σοι ἐρχομένην
Look about toward the east, O Jerusalem, and behold the gladness that comes to you from God.
耶路撒冷啊,向東觀看,看那從神臨到你的歡欣。
1:3125⧉ ⤴︎
Τὴν τῶν αἰχμαλώτων ἐπάνο δον προθεσπίζει
He foretells the return of the captives.
他預言被擄之人的歸回。
1:3126⧉ ⤴︎
Ἰδοὺ ἔρχονται οἱ υἱοί σου , οὓς ἐξαπ έστειλας·
Behold, your sons are coming, whom you sent away;
看哪,你的兒子們正歸來,就是你所打發出去的;
1:3127⧉ ⤴︎
ἔρχονται συνηγμένοι ἀπὸ ἀνατολῶν ἕως δυσμῶν , τῷ ῥήματι τοῦ Ἁγίου , χαίροντες τῇ τοῦ Θεοῦ δόξῃ
they come gathered together from the east to the west, at the word of the Holy One, rejoicing in the glory of God.
他們奉聖者的命令,從東到西被聚集歸來,因神的榮耀而歡喜。
1:3128⧉ ⤴︎
Οὐ γὰρ τῇ οἰκείᾳ δυνάμει περιεγένοντο τῶν ἐχθρῶν , ἀλλ' ὁ παραδοὺς Θεὸς τὴν ἐλευθερίαν ἀπέδωκε
For it was not by their own power that they prevailed over their enemies, but God, who had delivered them up, gave back their freedom.
因為他們並非靠自己的力量勝過仇敵,乃是那曾把他們交出去的神,將自由歸還了他們。
1:3129⧉ ⤴︎
Κελεύει δὲ καὶ τὴν πενθήρη στολὴν ἀποθέσθαι , καὶ περιτίθησιν αὐτῇ τῆς ἱερωσύνης τὸ σχῆμα
He bids her also to lay aside the garment of mourning, and he clothes her with the vesture of the priesthood.
他也吩咐她脫下哀傷的衣裳,並給她穿上祭司的服飾。
1:3130⧉ ⤴︎
Περιβαλοῦ γὰρ , φησὶ , τὴν διπλοΐδα τῆς παρὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ δικαιοσύνης , καὶ ἐπίθου τὴν μίτραν ἐπὶ τῆς κεφαλῆς σου , τῆς δόξης τοῦ αἰωνίου
Put on, he says, the double cloak of the righteousness that comes from God, and set upon your head the mitre of the glory of the Eternal.
他說:你要披上從神而來之公義的重袍,並將永恆者榮耀的冠冕戴在你頭上。
1:3131⧉ ⤴︎
Ἐν γὰρ τῇ μίτρᾳ τὸ πέταλον ἔκειτο τὸ χρυσοῦν·
For upon the mitre lay the golden plate;
因為在那冠冕上安著金牌;
1:3132⧉ ⤴︎
ἐν ᾧ τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ Θεοῦ προσεγέγραπτο
on which the name of God was inscribed.
牌上刻著神的名。
1:3133⧉ ⤴︎
Ὁ γὰρ Θεὸς δείξει τῇ ὑπ' οὐρανὸν πάσῃ τὴν σὴν λαμπρότητα
For God will show to all that is under heaven your splendour.
因為神必向普天下顯明你的光輝。
1:3134⧉ ⤴︎
Κληθήσεται γάρ σου τὸ ὄνομα παρὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα εἰρήνη δι καιοσύνης , καὶ δόξα θεοσεβείας
For your name shall be called by God for ever: Peace of righteousness, and Glory of godliness.
因為神必稱你的名,直到永遠,為「公義的平安」與「敬虔的榮耀」。
1:3135⧉ ⤴︎
Ταῦτα δὲ τὰ ὀνόματα νῦν ἔχει·
And these names she now bears;
如今她確實擁有這些名號;
1:3136⧉ ⤴︎
διὰ τοῦτο καὶ εἰς αὐτὴν συντρέ χουσιν ἅπαντες
for this reason all men flock together to her.
因此眾人都一同奔向她。
1:3137⧉ ⤴︎
Λαμπρὰν γὰρ αὐτὴν καὶ περιφανῆ πεποίηκε τὸ σωτήριον πάθος
For the saving Passion has made her radiant and renowned.
因為那救恩的受難使她光耀顯赫。
1:3138⧉ ⤴︎
Πάλιν δὲ αὐτῇ παρα κελεύεται ἰδεῖν ἀπὸ ἀνατολῶν καὶ δυσμῶν τοὺς αἰχ μαλώτους ἐπανιόντας , καὶ διδάσκει , ὡς ἀπήχθησαν μὲν πεζοὶ δεσμὰ περικείμενοι , ἐπανήξουσι δὲ πάσης τιμῆς ἀξιούμενοι
Again he exhorts her to behold the captives returning from the east and the west, and teaches that they were led away on foot, bound with chains, but they shall return being deemed worthy of every honour.
他又勸勉她觀看那從東從西歸回的被擄之人,並教導說:他們曾徒步被擄去,身上帶著鎖鏈,卻要在歸回時被尊以各樣的尊榮。
1:3139⧉ ⤴︎
κατειληφότες , ἐπανῆλθον λοιπὸν , ὡς εἰ ρήνης τῷ ἔθνει παρασχεθείσης·
having taken possession, they then returned, as though peace had been granted to the nation;
他們既已得著,便歸回了,彷彿平安已賜給了這民族;
1:3140⧉ ⤴︎
οὗ δὴ χάριν καὶ τῶν ἀπὸ δυσμῶν ἐμνημόνευσεν
for which reason he made mention also of those from the west.
正因如此,他也提到了那從西方而來的人。
1:3141⧉ ⤴︎
Συνέταξε γὰρ ὁ Θεὸς ταπεινοῦσθαι πᾶν ὄρος ὑψηλὸν , καὶ θῖνας ἀεννάους , καὶ φάραγγας πληροῦσθαι εἰς ὁμαλισμὸν τῆς γῆς , ἵνα βαδίσῃ Ἰσραὴλ ἀσφαλῶς τῇ τοῦ Θεοῦ δόξῃ
For God has commanded every high mountain to be brought low, and the perpetual sand-hills, and the ravines to be filled up, for the levelling of the earth, that Israel may walk securely in the glory of God.
因為神已吩咐一切高山降為卑,永存的沙丘填平,深谷充滿,使地面平坦,好叫以色列在神的榮耀中穩妥而行。
1:3142⧉ ⤴︎
Πᾶσαν , φησὶ , δυσκολίαν κατηνύασε·
He has removed, he says, every difficulty;
他說:祂已挪去了一切艱難;
1:3143⧉ ⤴︎
τοὺς ἐοικότας ὄρεσιν ὑψηλοῖς Βαβυλωνίους κατέλυσε·
He has broken down the Babylonians, who were like high mountains;
祂拆毀了那如高山般的巴比倫人;
1:3144⧉ ⤴︎
τοὺς ἐκείνοις ὑπο κειμένους , φάραγξι ταπειναῖς ἐοικότας , ἀνανεῦσαι πεποίηκεν·
those who were subject to them, who were like lowly ravines, He has caused to lift up their heads;
祂使那些臣服於他們、如同低谷之人昂首挺立;
1:3145⧉ ⤴︎
ἡμῶν δὲ πανταχόθεν ἄδεια τῆς ἐπαν όδου γεγένηται
and for us there has come, from every side, freedom of return.
而我們則從四面八方獲得了歸回的自由。
1:3146⧉ ⤴︎
Αἱ σκιάδες , καὶ οἱ δρυμοὶ , καὶ πᾶν ξύλον εὐωδία τῷ Ἰσραὴλ προστάγματι τοῦ Θεοῦ
The shady groves, and the thickets, and every fragrant tree, at the command of God, have become a sweet savour for Israel.
那蔽蔭的樹林、叢林,以及每一棵芳香的樹木,都奉神的命令,為以色列成了馨香之氣。
1:3147⧉ ⤴︎
Τὸν μέντοι Ἰσραὴλ ἐπανιόντα μετὰ πάσης προὔπεμψαν θεραπείας
And indeed they escorted Israel on his return with all attendant service.
他們果然以各樣的服事護送歸回的以色列。
1:3148⧉ ⤴︎
Λέγει δὲ καὶ τὸ αἴ τιον τῶν ἀγαθῶν
And he states also the cause of these good things.
他也述說這些美善之事的緣由。
1:3149⧉ ⤴︎
Ἡγήσεται γὰρ ὁ Θεὸς τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ μετ' εὐφροσύνης , τῷ φωτὶ τῆς δόξης αὐτοῦ , σὺν ἐλεημοσύνῃ καὶ δικαιοσύνῃ παρ' αὐτοῦ
For God will lead Israel with gladness, by the light of His glory, together with mercy and righteousness from Him.
因為神必以喜樂帶領以色列,藉著祂榮耀的光,並帶著出於祂的憐憫與公義。
1:3150⧉ ⤴︎
Θεοῦ ἡγουμένου πάντα λεῖα καὶ εὐμαρῆ
When God leads the way, all things are smooth and easy.
神既在前引領,凡事都平坦順利。
1:3151⧉ ⤴︎
Κέχρηται ἐλεη μοσύνῃ μὲν περὶ τὸν λαὸν , δικαιοσύνῃ δὲ κατὰ Βαβυλωνίων
He employs mercy toward the people, but justice against the Babylonians.
祂對百姓施行憐憫,對巴比倫人卻施行公義。
1:3152⧉ ⤴︎
Οὗτοι μὲν γὰρ ἁμαρτάνοντες διὰ τῆς παιδείας ὠφέλειαν ἐδέξαντο·
For these, though they had sinned, received benefit through the chastisement;
因為這些人雖然犯了罪,卻藉著管教得了益處;
1:3153⧉ ⤴︎

but those the victory rendered more frenzied and more impious.

Let us therefore also beseech the God of all things to become our guide and to lead us on our way;

ἧς ἡμᾶς γένοιτο ἐπιτυχεῖν χάριτι καὶ φιλανθρωπίᾳ τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ , μεθ' οὗ τῷ Πατρὶ ἡ δόξα , σὺν τῷ παναγίῳ Πνεύ ματι , νῦν καὶ ἀεὶ , καὶ εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων
may it be ours to attain to it by the grace and loving-kindness of our Lord Jesus Christ, with whom be glory to the Father, together with the all-holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages.
願我們藉著我們主耶穌基督的恩典與慈愛得以蒙受這福分;願榮耀藉著祂歸於父,並與至聖的聖靈同得,從今直到永遠,直到世世代代。

Ὁ μὲν θρῆνος συμπαθείας καὶ φιλοστοργίας ση μεῖον·
Lamentation is a sign of compassion and tender affection;

ἡγοῦμαι δὲ τὸν θεσπέσιον προφήτην ὠφελείας . ἕνεκα , καὶ τῶν τηνικαῦτα ἀνθρώπων , καὶ τῶν εἰς ὕστερον ἐσομένων , τοὺς θρήνους συγγράψαι·
and I consider that the inspired prophet composed his laments for the sake of benefit, both of the people of that time and of those who should come after,
我認為那位受神默示的先知寫下哀歌,是為了使當時的人與後來的人都得益處,

ἵνα κἀκεῖνοι καὶ οὗτοι μάθωσι διὰ τῶν γραμμάτων , ὅσων πρόξενος ἡ ἁμαρτία κακῶν·
so that both those and these might learn through the writings how many evils sin procures.
好叫這兩代人都能藉著這些文字,明白罪帶來何等多的禍患。

τέσσαρας μέντοι συγγέγραφε Θρήνους , τὰ ἑκάστου ῥήματα καὶ κατὰ τὸν ἀριθμὸν καὶ τὴν τάξιν τῶν στοιχείων συντεθεικώς·
He composed indeed four Lamentations, arranging the verses of each according to the number and order of the letters of the alphabet;
他確實寫了四篇哀歌,把每一篇的字句都按著字母的數目與次序編排;

θρηνεῖ δὲ τῆς πόλεως τὴν ἐρημίαν , τῆς προτέρας τῶν οἰκητόρων μεμνημένος πληθύος , καὶ δυσφοροῦσαν ὁρῶν τὴν πάλαι παρὰ τῶν ἄλλων πόλεων δεχομένην τὸν φόρον·
and he laments the desolation of the city, recalling the former multitude of its inhabitants, and beholding her grieving who of old received tribute from the other cities.
他為那城的荒涼而哀哭,追念昔日居民的眾多,並看見那從前向別城收取貢賦的城如今哀傷難忍。

προσωποποιίᾳ δὲ κε χρημένος , λέγει νύκτωρ καὶ μεθ' ἡμέραν τὴν πόλιν δακρύειν , τοῦ ψυχαγωγοῦντος οὐκ ὄντος , καὶ τῶν φίλων αὐτῆς παντελῶς ἠρνημένων
Employing personification, he says that the city weeps by night and by day, since there is none to comfort her, and her friends have utterly denied her.
他運用擬人的手法,說那城晝夜哭泣,因為無人安慰她,她的朋友也全然離棄了她。

Φέρει δὲ εἰς μέσον καὶ τῆς Ἰουδαίας ἁπάσης τὴν μετανάστασιν , καὶ τὴν χαλεπὴν δουλείαν , καὶ εὐχειρώτους αὐτοὺς λέγει γεγενῆσθαι διὰ τὴν ἁμαρτίαν
He also brings forward the migration of all Judea, and the grievous servitude, and says that they became easily subdued because of sin.
他又提出全猶太的遷徙、悲慘的奴役,並說他們因罪而輕易被制伏。

Πάντες γὰρ , φησὶν , οἱ διώκοντες αὐτὴν , κατέλαβον αὐτὴν ἀνὰ μέσον τῶν θλιβόντων
For 'all who pursued her,' he says, 'overtook her between the oppressors.'
他說:「凡追趕她的,都在窘迫她之人的中間追上了她。」

He also reminds them of the roads that resembled rivers at the time of the feasts;

for from every quarter all came running together to this city;

and he tells also the causes of these things.

'Those who oppress her have become the head, and her enemies prosper;'

ὅτι Κύριος ἐτα πείνωσεν αὐτὴν ἐπὶ τὸ πλῆθος τῶν ἀσεβειῶν αὐτῆς
'because the Lord humbled her for the multitude of her impieties.'

This the blessed Moses also foretold to them when they should transgress the divine law:

'Your enemies shall be above, and you below;' and he foretells destruction also to the sucklings together with the elders.

καθεστηκότος πρεσβυτέ ρου . Οὕτω κἀνταῦθα·
of an established elder. So also here;

for they were stripped of their former strength.

Then he says that she remembers the former prosperity and adversity of Jerusalem, and sets beside them the evils that have now come upon her;

καὶ πλεῖον ἀνιᾶ σθαι διὰ τὸ γενέσθαι τοῖς δυσμενέσιν ἐπίχαρτον
and she is grieved the more, because she has become an object of gloating to her adversaries.
她更加憂傷,因為她成了仇敵幸災樂禍的對象。

Συνεχῶς δὲ διδάσκει τῶν συμφορῶν τὴν αἰτίαν , τὴν ὠφέλειαν πραγματευόμενος
Continually he teaches the cause of the calamities, working out the benefit thereof.

Ἁμαρτίαν γὰρ , φησὶν , ἡμάρτηκεν Ἱερουσαλὴμ , διὰ τοῦτο εἰς σάλον ἐγένετο
'For Jerusalem,' he says, 'has sinned a sin; therefore she was thrown into commotion.'

For which cause also those who formerly honored her insulted her, when they beheld her ill fortune.
因此,那從前尊敬她的人,看見她的不幸,也就凌辱她。

Then he reminds them of the manifold sins.

'Her uncleanness is before her feet;'

Θρηνεῖ δὲ διαφερόντως τὸ τῶν ἀδύτων τοῦ ναοῦ κατατολμῆσαι τοὺς δυσμενεῖς , καί φησι·
He laments especially that the adversaries dared to enter the innermost sanctuaries of the temple, and says:
他尤其哀嘆仇敵竟膽敢闖入聖殿至內的密所,並說:
1:3183⧉ ⤴︎
Χεῖρα αὑτοῦ ἐξεπέτασε θλίβων , ἐπὶ πάντα τὰ ἐπιθυμητὰ αὐτῆς·
'The oppressor has stretched out his hand over all her desirable things;'
「那窘迫她的伸手奪取她一切所喜愛的;」
1:3184⧉ ⤴︎
εἶδε γὰρ ἔθνη εἰσελθόντα εἰς τὸ ἁγίασμα αὐτῆς , ἃ ἐνετείλω μὴ εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν ἐκκλησίαν σου
'for she saw nations entering into her sanctuary, whom you commanded not to enter into your congregation.'
「因她看見列國進入她的聖所,就是你所吩咐不可進入你會中的。」

Into the holy of holies only the high priest was permitted to enter, and that indeed once in the year;
至聖所惟有大祭司才可進入,而且一年只有一次;

into the holy places before these the priests alone went in;

into the inner court the Levites also;

into the outer court both those of the race of Israel and the circumcised proselytes;
至於外院,凡以色列族的人與受了割禮的歸信者皆可進入;

πάντα γὰρ ἀπερίτμητον καὶ εἰς ἐκείνην εἰσελθεῖν ὁ νόμος ἐκώλυε·
for the law forbade every uncircumcised person to enter even into that court;
因為律法禁止一切未受割禮的人,連那院子也不可進入;

διαφερόντως μέντοι Μωαβίτας καὶ Ἀμμανίτας εἰσελθεῖν ἀπαγορεύει·
and it especially forbids the Moabites and Ammonites to enter;

Ἀμμανίτης γὰρ , καὶ Μωαβίτης , οὐκ εἰσελεύσεται εἰς ἐκκλη σίαν Κυρίου , οὐδὲ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα . Τοῦτον ἀνέ μνησε τὸν νόμον ὁ Θρῆνος·
'for an Ammonite and a Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord, even unto the age.' This law the Lamentation recalled;

εἶτα διηγεῖται τὰ ἀπὸ τοῦ λιμοῦ συμβεβηκότα κακά
then he recounts the evils that came about from the famine.

'All her people groaning, seeking bread.'

for indeed even those who fled were captured.

and we too are often accustomed to lament the difficulties of the times.

'The Lord has trodden the winepress for the virgin daughter of Judah.'

He says that she is also without comfort, inasmuch as God permitted the enemies to rush against her, and to defile that which was consecrated.

to her, therefore, he likens the city, filled as it was with foreign and impious men.

'For I transgressed the laws that had been laid down by Him.'

Θρηνήσας δὲ τῶν παρθένων καὶ τῶν νεανίσκων ἀνδραποδισμὸν , διδάσκει , ὡς ἀνωφε λὴς ἡ τῶν εἰδώλων δουλεία
Having lamented the enslavement of the virgins and the young men, he teaches that the servitude paid to idols is of no profit.
先知哀悼童女與少年被擄為奴之後,教導人說:事奉偶像的奴役毫無益處。

Ἱκετεύει δὲ τὸν λῦσαι δυνάμενον τὴν τῶν κακῶν ἀωρίαν , οἰκτεῖραι αὐτὴν ὁμολογοῦσαν τὴν ἁμαρτίαν
He implores Him who is able to loose the untimeliness of these evils to have compassion on her who confesses her sin.
他懇求那能解除這些禍患之無時的主,憐憫這承認自己罪過的城。

Παραπικραίνουσα γὰρ , φησὶ , παρεπί κρανα . Ἀνιᾷ δὲ αὐτὴ διαφερόντως τὸ τοὺς ἐχθροὺς ἐπιτωθάζειν·
'For provoking to bitterness,' he says, 'I have provoked.' And she is grieved beyond measure that her enemies mock her.
他說:「我大大惹動了苦毒的憤怒。」而她尤其痛苦的,是仇敵對她的譏笑。

καὶ τοῦτο δὲ , φησὶ , σοῦ νεύσαντος γέ γονεν
'And this too,' he says, 'has come to pass by Your nod.'

'For You brought on a day, and You called a season, and they became to me: Woe, woe.' And she asks that those enemies too may fall into the same calamities.
「因為你宣告了日子,招聚了時候,這對我便成了:唉哉,唉哉。」她並求那些仇敵也落在同樣的災禍中。

'For let all their wickedness,' she says, 'enter in before Your face.'

for many are my groanings, and my heart is grieved.' And here the Syrian rendered 'glean' thus:

'Afflict them, as You afflicted me.' The first Lamentation, then, has this for its end.

and he says that the city was cast down from the heavens to the earth. Since she was stripped of the grace that had flourished upon her, she became an easy prey to her foes.

That is, He brought them down to the very foundations.

By 'horn' he means the rulers and the mighty ones.

'He has turned back His right hand from before the enemy, and He has kindled in Jacob a flaming fire, and it devoured all things round about him.' For He was unwilling to defend them when their foes attacked, but was like a noble general well able easily to overthrow the enemy, who yet shifts his hands behind him and yields the victory to the adversaries.
「祂在仇敵面前收回了自己的右手,又在雅各中點起了烈焰之火,燒滅了他四圍的一切。」因為當仇敵來攻時,祂不肯施援,反倒像一位本能輕易擊敗敵人的高貴將領,卻把雙手向後縮回,將勝利讓與仇敵。

Ἐπ' ἐμὲ δὲ , φησὶ , τοὐναντίον ἐχρήσατο ταῖς χερσίν
'But against me,' he says, 'He used His hands to the contrary.'
他說:「然而祂卻反其道而向我動手。」

Ἐνέτεινε γὰρ τὸ τόξον αὑτοῦ ὡς ἐχθρὸς , καὶ ἐστερέωσε δεξιὰν αὐτοῦ ὡς ὑπεναντίος , καὶ ἀπέκτεινε πάντα τὰ ἐπιθυμήματά μου ἐν σκηνῇ θυγατρὸς Σιών·
'For He bent His bow like an enemy, and made firm His right hand like an adversary, and slew all my desirable things in the tent of the daughter of Zion;
「因為祂如仇敵張開了弓,如敵人站穩了右手,在錫安女子的帳幕中殺盡了我一切所喜愛的;

ἐξέχεεν ὡς πῦρ τὸν θυμὸν αὑ τοῦ
He poured out His wrath like fire.'

Καὶ γὰρ ἐν τῷ ναῷ τὰς σφαγὰς ἐτόλμησαν οἱ πολέμιοι
For indeed the enemies dared to commit slaughters even in the temple.

ἐπειδὴ γὰρ ἐξ ήμαρτον , τὰ δυσμενῶν εἰργάσατο , καὶ διὰ τῶν πο λεμίων καὶ τοὺς περιβόλους κατέλυσε , καὶ τὰς οἰκίας ἐνέπρησε , καὶ ἀνδράσι καὶ γυναιξὶ τὸ πένθος ἐπ ήνεγκε
For since they had sinned, He wrought the deeds of foes, and through the enemies He both demolished the enclosures and burned the houses, and brought mourning upon both men and women.

'He has multiplied for the daughter of Judah what is humbled — both the humbled man and the humbled woman.'

'The Lord has caused Zion to forget feast and sabbath.' And he has added the destruction of the kings and the priests, and the desolation of the temple, and the defilement of the altar, and the demolition of the wall, and — most grievous of all —
「主使錫安忘記了節期與安息日。」他又加上君王與祭司的滅亡、聖殿的荒涼、祭壇的玷污、城牆的拆毀,以及那最令人痛心的一件——

Φωνὴν πολέμου ἔδωκαν ἐν οἴκῳ Κυρίου· ὡς ψαλμὸν Λευϊτῶν
'They gave forth a sound of war in the house of the Lord, as a psalm of the Levites'

Ἐν ἡμέρᾳ ἑορτῆς . Ἀντὶ γὰρ τῆς συνήθους ὑμνῳδίας ὁ τῶν πολεμίων ἀλαλαγμὸς ἀνεπέμπετο
'on a day of feast.' For instead of the customary hymnody, the war-shout of the enemies was sent up.
「在節期之日。」因為代替慣常的頌讚詩歌,所發出的乃是仇敵的吶喊。

Ἐλογίσατο Κύριος τοῦ διαφθεῖραι τεῖχος θυγατρὸς Σιών·
'The Lord has purposed to destroy the wall of the daughter of Zion.'

Τουτέστι , τὴν ἴσην καὶ δικαίαν ψῆφον·
That is, the equal and just sentence;
就是說,那公平又公義的判決;

this too the blessed Zechariah beheld.

but after the capture of the city and the burning of the temple, even if they wished, they were unable to fulfil the worship according to the law.
而在城被攻陷、聖殿被焚之後,他們即使願意,也無法履行律法所定的敬拜。

Καί γε προφῆται αὐτῆς οὐχ εὗρον ὅρασιν παρὰ Κυρίου . Τοὺς ψευδοπροφήτας λέγει , τοὺς τὰ ψευδῆ μαντευσαμένους αὐτῇ
'Yea, her prophets found no vision from the Lord.' He means the false prophets, who prophesied lies to her.
「她的先知也不能從主得著默示。」他所指的是那些假先知,就是向她說假預言的人。

Ὑποδείκνυσι καὶ τοὺς γεγηρακότας θρηνοῦντας , καὶ σάκκον περιεζωσμέ νους , καὶ αὐτὸς δὲ ὁ προφήτης βοᾷ·
He points also to the aged as mourning and girded with sackcloth; and the prophet himself cries aloud:
他又指出年老的人在哀悼、腰束麻布;先知自己也放聲哀呼:

Ἐξέλιπον ἐν δάκρυσιν οἱ ὀφθαλμοί μου , ἐταράχθη ἡ κοιλία μου·
'My eyes have failed with tears, my bowels were troubled;

ἐξεχύθη εἰς γῆν ἡ δόξα μου ἐπὶ τὸ σύντριμμα τῆς θυγατρὸς τοῦ λαοῦ μοῦ
my glory was poured out upon the earth at the crushing of the daughter of my people'
我的榮耀因我百姓女子的破碎而傾倒於地」
1:3263⧉ ⤴︎
Ἐν τῷ ἐκλύεσθαι νήπια καὶ θηλάζοντα ἐν πλατείαις πόλεως . Ὁ γὰρ λιμὸς καὶ τὴν τῆς φύσεως φιλοστοργίαν ἐνίκησε
'while infants and sucklings fainted in the streets of the city.' For the famine overcame even the natural tenderness of affection.
「當嬰孩與吃奶的在城中的街上發昏之時。」因為饑荒竟勝過了天性中的慈愛。
1:3264⧉ ⤴︎
Ταῖς μητράσιν αὑτῶν εἶπον , Ποῦ σῖτος καὶ οἶνος; ἐν τῷ ἐκλύεσθαι αὐτούς
'They said to their mothers, Where is corn and wine? while they fainted away.'
「他們對母親說:五穀和酒在哪裡呢?就在他們發昏之時。」

Λέγει δὲ μὴ εὑρίσκειν ἀξίαν εἰκόνα τοῦ πάθους
And he says that he finds no fitting image of the suffering.
他又說,他找不到足以配得上這苦難的比方。

Τί γὰρ , φησὶ , μαρτυρήσω σοι , καὶ τί ὁμοιώσω σοι , θύγατερ Ἱερουσαλήμ; Ἀναμιμνήσκει δὲ καὶ τῶν ψευδοπροφητῶν , τῶν τὰ χρηστὰ προλεγόντων
'For to what,' he says, 'shall I testify to you, and to what shall I liken you, O daughter of Jerusalem?' And he calls to mind also the false prophets, who foretold prosperous things.
他說:「女子耶路撒冷啊,我可用甚麼向你作證,可用甚麼與你相比呢?」他又提起那些假先知,就是預言吉祥之事的人。

Προφῆται γάρ σου , φησὶν , εἶδόν σοι μά ταια , καὶ ἀφροσύνην·
'For your prophets,' he says, 'saw for you vain things and folly;

καὶ οὐκ ἀπεκάλυψαν τὴν ἀδικίαν σου , τοῦ ἀποστρέψαι τὴν αἰχμα λωσίαν σου
and they did not uncover your iniquity, so as to turn back your captivity.'
他們並不揭露你的罪孽,好使你被擄的得以歸回。」

Καὶ εἶδόν σοι λήμματα μάταια , καὶ ἔξωσάν σε
'And they saw for you vain oracles, and drove you out.'
「他們為你所見的是虛妄的默示,把你驅逐出去。」
