13:1
בֶּן־שָׁנָ֖ה שָׁא֣וּל בְּמׇלְכ֑וֹ וּשְׁתֵּ֣י שָׁנִ֔ים מָלַ֖ךְ עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
—
Filius unius anni erat Saul cum regnare coepisset : duobus autem annis regnavit super Israël.
—
Saul was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned over Israel forty-two years.
13:2
וַיִּבְחַר־ל֨וֹ שָׁא֜וּל שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת אֲלָפִים֮ מִיִּשְׂרָאֵל֒ וַיִּהְי֨וּ עִם־שָׁא֜וּל אַלְפַּ֗יִם בְּמִכְמָשׂ֙ וּבְהַ֣ר בֵּֽית־אֵ֔ל וְאֶ֗לֶף הָיוּ֙ עִם־י֣וֹנָתָ֔ן בְּגִבְעַ֖ת בִּנְיָמִ֑ין וְיֶ֣תֶר הָעָ֔ם שִׁלַּ֖ח אִ֥ישׁ לְאֹהָלָֽיו׃
καὶ ἐκλέγεται Σαουλ ἑαυτῷ τρεῖς χιλιάδας ἀνδρῶν ἐκ τῶν ἀνδρῶν Ισραηλ καὶ ἦσαν μετὰ Σαουλ δισχίλιοι ἐν Μαχεμας καὶ ἐν τῷ ὄρει Βαιθηλ χίλιοι ἦσαν μετὰ Ιωναθαν ἐν Γαβεε τοῦ Βενιαμιν καὶ τὸ κατάλοιπον τοῦ λαοῦ ἐξαπέστειλεν ἕκαστον εἰς τὸ σκήνωμα αὐτοῦ
Et elegit sibi Saul tria millia de Israël : et erant cum Saul duo millia in Machmas, et in monte Bethel : mille autem cum Jonatha in Gabaa Benjamin : porro ceterum populum remisit unumquemque in tabernacula sua.
ወኀረየ፡ ሎቱ፡ ሳኦል፡ ሠላሳ፡ ምእተ፡ ብእሴ፡ ወነበሩ፡ ምስለ፡ ሳኦል፡ ዕሥራ፡ ምእት፡ ብእሲ፡ ውስተ፡ መኬማስ፡ ወውስተ፡ ደብረ፡ ቤቴል፡ ወዐሠርቱ፡ ምእት፡ ብእሲ፡ ምስለ፡ ዮናታን፡ ውስተ፡ ገባኦን፡ ዘብንያም፡ ወለእለስ፡ ተርፉ፡ ሕዝብ፡ ፈነዎሙ፡ ይእትዉ፡ ውስተ፡ አብያቲሆሙ፡ ለኵሎሙ።
Saul chose for himself three thousand men of Israel, of which two thousand were with Saul in Michmash and in the Mount of Bethel, and one thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin. He sent the rest of the people to their own tents.
13:3
וַיַּ֣ךְ יוֹנָתָ֗ן אֵ֣ת נְצִ֤יב פְּלִשְׁתִּים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּגֶ֔בַע וַֽיִּשְׁמְע֖וּ פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים וְשָׁאוּל֩ תָּקַ֨ע בַּשּׁוֹפָ֤ר בְּכׇל־הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר יִשְׁמְע֖וּ הָעִבְרִֽים׃
καὶ ἐπάταξεν Ιωναθαν τὸν Νασιβ τὸν ἀλλόφυλον τὸν ἐν τῷ βουνῷ καὶ ἀκούουσιν οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι καὶ Σαουλ σάλπιγγι σαλπίζει εἰς πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν λέγων ἠθετήκασιν οἱ δοῦλοι
Et percussit Jonathas stationem Philisthinorum quae erat in Gabaa. Quod cum audissent Philisthiim, Saul cecinit buccina in omni terra, dicens : Audiant Hebraei.
ወቀተሎሙ፡ ዮናታን፡ ለናሴብ፡ ለኢሎፍሊ፡ እለ፡ ውስተ፡ ወግር፡ ወሰምዑ፡ ኢሎፍሊ፡ ወአንፍሐ፡ ቀርነ፡ ሳኦል፡ ውስተ፡ ኵሉ፡ ምድር፡ እንዘ፡ ይብል፡ ዐለዉነ፡ አግብርቲነ።
Jonathan struck the garrison of the Philistines that was in Geba, and the Philistines heard of it. Saul blew the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, “Let the Hebrews hear!”
13:4
וְכׇל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֞ל שָׁמְע֣וּ לֵאמֹ֗ר הִכָּ֤ה שָׁאוּל֙ אֶת־נְצִ֣יב פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים וְגַם־נִבְאַ֥שׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בַּפְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים וַיִּצָּעֲק֥וּ הָעָ֛ם אַחֲרֵ֥י שָׁא֖וּל הַגִּלְגָּֽל׃
καὶ πᾶς Ισραηλ ἤκουσεν λεγόντων πέπαικεν Σαουλ τὸν Νασιβ τὸν ἀλλόφυλον καὶ ᾐσχύνθησαν Ισραηλ ἐν τοῖς ἀλλοφύλοις καὶ ἀνεβόησαν ὁ λαὸς ὀπίσω Σαουλ ἐν Γαλγαλοις
Et universus Israël audivit hujuscemodi famam : Percussit Saul stationem Philisthinorum, et erexit se Israël adversus Philisthiim. Clamavit ergo populus post Saul in Galgala.
ወሰምዑ፡ ኵሎሙ፡ እስራኤል፡ እንዘ፡ ይብሉ፡ ቀተሎሙአ፡ ሳኦልአ፡ ለናሴብአ፡ ለኢሎፍሊአ፡ ወጸንዑ፡ እስራኤል፡ ላዕለ፡ ኢሎፍሊ፡ ወወውዑ፡ ሕዝብ፡ በገልገላ፡ ወተለውዎ፡ ለሳኦል።
All Israel heard that Saul had struck the garrison of the Philistines, and also that Israel was considered an abomination to the Philistines. The people were gathered together after Saul to Gilgal.
13:5
וּפְלִשְׁתִּ֞ים נֶאֶסְפ֣וּ׀ לְהִלָּחֵ֣ם עִם־יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל שְׁלֹשִׁ֨ים אֶ֤לֶף רֶ֙כֶב֙ וְשֵׁ֤שֶׁת אֲלָפִים֙ פָּרָשִׁ֔ים וְעָ֕ם כַּח֛וֹל אֲשֶׁ֥ר עַל־שְׂפַֽת־הַיָּ֖ם לָרֹ֑ב וַֽיַּעֲלוּ֙ וַיַּחֲנ֣וּ בְמִכְמָ֔שׂ קִדְמַ֖ת בֵּ֥ית אָֽוֶן׃
καὶ οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι συνάγονται εἰς πόλεμον ἐπὶ Ισραηλ καὶ ἀναβαίνουσιν ἐπὶ Ισραηλ τριάκοντα χιλιάδες ἁρμάτων καὶ ἓξ χιλιάδες ἱππέων καὶ λαὸς ὡς ἡ ἄμμος ἡ παρὰ τὴν θάλασσαν τῷ πλήθει καὶ ἀναβαίνουσιν καὶ παρεμβάλλουσιν ἐν Μαχεμας ἐξ ἐναντίας Βαιθων κατὰ νότου
Et Philisthiim congregati sunt ad praeliandum contra Israël, triginta millia curruum, et sex millia equitum, et reliquum vulgus, sicut arena quae est in littore maris plurima. Et ascendentes castrametati sunt in Machmas ad orientem Bethaven.
ወኢሎፍሊኒ፡ ተጋብኡ፡ ወፀብእዎሙ፡ ለእስራኤል፡ ፫፼ሰረገላት፡ ወ፷፻መስተፅዕናነ፡ አፍራስ፡ ወኵሉ፡ ሕዝብ፡ ከመ፡ ኆፃ፡ ባሕር፡ ብዝኆሙ ፤ ወዐርጉ፡ ወተዐየኑ፡ ውስተ፡ መኬማስ፡ ቅድመ፡ ቤቶሮን፡ እመንገለ፡ አዜብ።
The Philistines assembled themselves together to fight with Israel: thirty thousand chariots, six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the seashore in multitude. They came up and encamped in Michmash, eastward of Beth Aven.
13:6
וְאִ֨ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל רָאוּ֙ כִּ֣י צַר־ל֔וֹ כִּ֥י נִגַּ֖שׂ הָעָ֑ם וַיִּֽתְחַבְּא֣וּ הָעָ֗ם בַּמְּעָר֤וֹת וּבַֽחֲוָחִים֙ וּבַסְּלָעִ֔ים וּבַצְּרִחִ֖ים וּבַבֹּרֽוֹת׃
καὶ ἀνὴρ Ισραηλ εἶδεν ὅτι στενῶς αὐτῷ μὴ προσάγειν αὐτόν καὶ ἐκρύβη ὁ λαὸς ἐν τοῖς σπηλαίοις καὶ ἐν ταῖς μάνδραις καὶ ἐν ταῖς πέτραις καὶ ἐν τοῖς βόθροις καὶ ἐν τοῖς λάκκοις
Quod cum vidissent viri Israël se in arcto positos (afflictus enim erat populus), absconderunt se in speluncis, et in abditis, in petris quoque, et in antris, et in cisternis.
ወሶበ፡ ርእዩ፡ ሰብአ፡ እስራኤል፡ ከመ፡ የዐጽቦሙ፡ ሐዊረ፡ ኀቤሆሙ፡ ተኀብኡ፡ ሕዝብ፡ ውስተ፡ በአታት፡ ወውስተ፡ ሕዝአታት፡ ወታሕተ፡ ጾላዕት፡ ወውስተ፡ ግበብ፡ ወውስተ፡ ዐዘቅታት።
When the men of Israel saw that they were in trouble (for the people were distressed), then the people hid themselves in caves, in thickets, in rocks, in tombs, and in pits.
13:7
וְעִבְרִ֗ים עָֽבְרוּ֙ אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן אֶ֥רֶץ גָּ֖ד וְגִלְעָ֑ד וְשָׁאוּל֙ עוֹדֶ֣נּוּ בַגִּלְגָּ֔ל וְכׇל־הָעָ֖ם חָֽרְד֥וּ אַחֲרָֽיו׃
καὶ οἱ διαβαίνοντες διέβησαν τὸν Ιορδάνην εἰς γῆν Γαδ καὶ Γαλααδ καὶ Σαουλ ἔτι ἦν ἐν Γαλγαλοις καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς ἐξέστη ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ
Hebraei autem transierunt Jordanem in terram Gad et Galaad. Cumque adhuc esset Saul in Galgala, universus populus perterritus est qui sequebatur eum.
ወቦ፡ እለ፡ ዐደዉ፡ ዮርዳኖስ፡ ውስተ፡ ምድረ፡ ጋድ፡ ወገለዓድ፡ ወሳኦልሰ፡ ዓዲሁ፡ ሀለወ፡ ውስተ፡ ገልገላ፡ ወኵሉ፡ ሕዝብ፡ ኀደጉ፡ ተሊዎቶ።
Now some of the Hebrews had gone over the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead; but as for Saul, he was yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.
13:8
(וייחל) [וַיּ֣וֹחֶל׀] שִׁבְעַ֣ת יָמִ֗ים לַמּוֹעֵד֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל וְלֹא־בָ֥א שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל הַגִּלְגָּ֑ל וַיָּ֥פֶץ הָעָ֖ם מֵעָלָֽיו׃
καὶ διέλιπεν ἑπτὰ ἡμέρας τῷ μαρτυρίῳ ὡς εἶπεν Σαμουηλ καὶ οὐ παρεγένετο Σαμουηλ εἰς Γαλγαλα καὶ διεσπάρη ὁ λαὸς αὐτοῦ ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ
Et expectavit septem diebus juxta placitum Samuelis, et non venit Samuel in Galgala, dilapsusque est populus ab eo.
ወኀለፉ፡ እልክቱ፡ ሰሱዕ፡ መዋዕል፡ ዘይቤሎ፡ ሳሙኤል፡ ዘአስምዐ፡ ሳዕሌሁ፡ ወኢመጽአ፡ ሳሙኤል፡ ውስተ፡ ገልገላ፡ ወተዘርዉ፡ ኵሉ፡ ሕዝብ፡ እምኔሁ።
He stayed seven days, according to the time set by Samuel; but Samuel didn’t come to Gilgal, and the people were scattering from him.
13:9
וַיֹּ֣אמֶר שָׁא֔וּל הַגִּ֣שׁוּ אֵלַ֔י הָעֹלָ֖ה וְהַשְּׁלָמִ֑ים וַיַּ֖עַל הָעֹלָֽה׃
καὶ εἶπεν Σαουλ προσαγάγετε ὅπως ποιήσω ὁλοκαύτωσιν καὶ εἰρηνικάς καὶ ἀνήνεγκεν τὴν ὁλοκαύτωσιν
Ait ergo Saul : Afferte mihi holocaustum et pacifica. Et obtulit holocaustum.
ወይቤ፡ ሳኦል፡ አምጽኡ፡ ሊተ፡ ዘእገብር፡ መሥዋዕተ፡ ሰላም።
Saul said, “Bring the burnt offering to me here, and the peace offerings.” He offered the burnt offering.
13:10
וַיְהִ֗י כְּכַלֹּתוֹ֙ לְהַעֲל֣וֹת הָעֹלָ֔ה וְהִנֵּ֥ה שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל בָּ֑א וַיֵּצֵ֥א שָׁא֛וּל לִקְרָאת֖וֹ לְבָרְכֽוֹ׃
καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς συνετέλεσεν ἀναφέρων τὴν ὁλοκαύτωσιν καὶ Σαμουηλ παραγίνεται καὶ ἐξῆλθεν Σαουλ εἰς ἀπάντησιν αὐτῷ εὐλογῆσαι αὐτόν
Cumque complesset offerens holocaustum, ecce Samuel veniebat : et egressus est Saul obviam ei ut salutaret eum.
ወእምዝ፡ ሶበ፡ ፈጸመ፡ ገቢረ፡ መሥዋዕት፡ ናሁ፡ መጽአ፡ ሳሙኤል፡ ወወፅአ፡ ሳኦል፡ ወተቀበሎ፡ ከመ፡ ይባርኮ።
It came to pass that as soon as he had finished offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might greet him.
13:11
וַיֹּ֥אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל מֶ֣ה עָשִׂ֑יתָ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר שָׁא֡וּל כִּֽי־רָאִ֩יתִי֩ כִֽי־נָפַ֨ץ הָעָ֜ם מֵעָלַ֗י וְאַתָּה֙ לֹֽא־בָ֙אתָ֙ לְמוֹעֵ֣ד הַיָּמִ֔ים וּפְלִשְׁתִּ֖ים נֶאֱסָפִ֥ים מִכְמָֽשׂ׃
καὶ εἶπεν Σαμουηλ τί πεποίηκας καὶ εἶπεν Σαουλ ὅτι εἶδον ὡς διεσπάρη ὁ λαὸς ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ καὶ σὺ οὐ παρεγένου ὡς διετάξω ἐν τῷ μαρτυρίῳ τῶν ἡμερῶν καὶ οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι συνήχθησαν εἰς Μαχεμας
Locutusque est ad eum Samuel : Quid fecisti ? Respondit Saul : Quia vidi quod populus dilaberetur a me, et tu non veneras juxta placitos dies, porro Philisthiim congregati fuerant in Machmas,
ወይቤሎ፡ ሳሙኤል፡ ምንተ፡ ገበርከ፡ ወይቤሎ፡ ሳኦል፡ እስመ፡ ርኢኩ፡ ከመ፡ ተዘርወ፡ ሕዝብ፡ እምኔየ፡ ወአንተኒ፡ ኢመጻእከ፡ በከመ፡ ትቤለኒ፡ ዘአስማዕከ፡ ላዕሌየ፡ በእንተ፡ መዋዕል፡ ወኢሎፍሊኒ፡ ተጋብኡ፡ ውስተ፡ መኬማስ ፤
Samuel said, “What have you done?” Saul said, “Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that you didn’t come within the days appointed, and that the Philistines assembled themselves together at Michmash,
13:12
וָאֹמַ֗ר עַ֠תָּ֠ה יֵרְד֨וּ פְלִשְׁתִּ֤ים אֵלַי֙ הַגִּלְגָּ֔ל וּפְנֵ֥י יְהֹוָ֖ה לֹ֣א חִלִּ֑יתִי וָֽאֶתְאַפַּ֔ק וָאַעֲלֶ֖ה הָעֹלָֽה׃ {ס}
καὶ εἶπα νῦν καταβήσονται οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι πρός με εἰς Γαλγαλα καὶ τοῦ προσώπου τοῦ κυρίου οὐκ ἐδεήθην καὶ ἐνεκρατευσάμην καὶ ἀνήνεγκα τὴν ὁλοκαύτωσιν
dixi : Nunc descendent Philisthiim ad me in Galgala, et faciem Domini non placavi. Necessitate compulsus, obtuli holocaustum.
ወእቤ፡ ይእዜ፡ ይወርዱ፡ ኢሎፍሊ፡ ኀቤየ፡ ውስተ፡ ገልገላ፡ ወገጸ፡ እግዚአብሔርኒ፡ ኢሰአልኩ፡ ወተዐጊሥየ፡ ገበርኩ፡ መሥዋዕተ።
therefore I said, ‘Now the Philistines will come down on me to Gilgal, and I haven’t entreated the favor of Yahweh.’ I forced myself therefore, and offered the burnt offering.”
13:13
וַיֹּ֧אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵ֛ל אֶל־שָׁא֖וּל נִסְכָּ֑לְתָּ לֹ֣א שָׁמַ֗רְתָּ אֶת־מִצְוַ֞ת יְהֹוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר צִוָּ֔ךְ כִּ֣י עַתָּ֗ה הֵכִ֨ין יְהֹוָ֧ה אֶת־מַֽמְלַכְתְּךָ֛ אֶל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל עַד־עוֹלָֽם׃
καὶ εἶπεν Σαμουηλ πρὸς Σαουλ μεματαίωταί σοι ὅτι οὐκ ἐφύλαξας τὴν ἐντολήν μου ἣν ἐνετείλατό σοι κύριος ὡς νῦν ἡτοίμασεν κύριος τὴν βασιλείαν σου ἕως αἰῶνος ἐπὶ Ισραηλ
Dixitque Samuel ad Saul : Stulte egisti, nec custodisti mandata Domini Dei tui quae praecepit tibi. Quod si non fecisses, jam nunc praeparasset Dominus regnum tuum super Israël in sempiternum :
ወይቤሎ፡ ሳሙኤል፡ ለሳኦል፡ አበስከ፡ ዘኢዐቀብከ፡ ትእዛዝየ፡ ዘአዘዘከ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ በከመ፡ ይእዜ፡ አስተዳለወ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ለዓለም፡ መንግሥተከ፡ ለእስራኤል።
Samuel said to Saul, “You have done foolishly. You have not kept the commandment of Yahweh your God, which he commanded you; for now Yahweh would have established your kingdom on Israel forever.
13:14
וְעַתָּ֖ה מַמְלַכְתְּךָ֣ לֹֽא־תָק֑וּם בִּקֵּשׁ֩ יְהֹוָ֨ה ל֜וֹ אִ֣ישׁ כִּלְבָב֗וֹ וַיְצַוֵּ֨הוּ יְהֹוָ֤ה לְנָגִיד֙ עַל־עַמּ֔וֹ כִּ֚י לֹ֣א שָׁמַ֔רְתָּ אֵ֥ת אֲשֶֽׁר־צִוְּךָ֖ יְהֹוָֽה׃ {ס}
καὶ νῦν ἡ βασιλεία σου οὐ στήσεται καὶ ζητήσει κύριος ἑαυτῷ ἄνθρωπον κατὰ τὴν καρδίαν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐντελεῖται κύριος αὐτῷ εἰς ἄρχοντα ἐπὶ τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ ὅτι οὐκ ἐφύλαξας ὅσα ἐνετείλατό σοι κύριος
sed nequaquam regnum tuum ultra consurget. Quaesivit Dominus sibi virum juxta cor suum : et praecepit ei Dominus ut esset dux super populum suum, eo quod non servaveris quae praecepit Dominus.
ወይእዜኒ፡ ኢትቀውም፡ መንግሥትከ፡ ወየኀሥሥ፡ ሎቱ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ብእሴ፡ ዘከመ፡ ልቡ፡ ወይሠይሞ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ንጉሠ፡ ላዕለ፡ ሕዝቡ፡ እስመ፡ ኢዐቀብከ፡ ኵሎ፡ ዘአዘዘከ፡ እግዚአብሔር።
But now your kingdom will not continue. Yahweh has sought for himself a man after his own heart, and Yahweh has appointed him to be prince over his people, because you have not kept that which Yahweh commanded you.”
13:15
וַיָּ֣קׇם שְׁמוּאֵ֗ל וַיַּ֛עַל מִן־הַגִּלְגָּ֖ל גִּבְעַ֣ת בִּנְיָמִ֑ן וַיִּפְקֹ֣ד שָׁא֗וּל אֶת־הָעָם֙ הַנִּמְצְאִ֣ים עִמּ֔וֹ כְּשֵׁ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת אִֽישׁ׃
καὶ ἀνέστη Σαμουηλ καὶ ἀπῆλθεν ἐκ Γαλγαλων εἰς ὁδὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ τὸ κατάλειμμα τοῦ λαοῦ ἀνέβη ὀπίσω Σαουλ εἰς ἀπάντησιν ὀπίσω τοῦ λαοῦ τοῦ πολεμιστοῦ αὐτῶν παραγενομένων ἐκ Γαλγαλων εἰς Γαβαα Βενιαμιν καὶ ἐπεσκέψατο Σαουλ τὸν λαὸν τὸν εὑρεθέντα μετ’ αὐτοῦ ὡς ἑξακοσίους ἄνδρας
Surrexit autem Samuel, et ascendit de Galgalis in Gabaa Benjamin. Et reliqui populi ascenderunt post Saul obviam populo, qui expugnabant eos venientes de Galgala in Gabaa, in colle Benjamin. Et recensuit Saul populum qui inventi fuerant cum eo, quasi sexcentos viros.
ወተንሥአ፡ ሳሙኤል፡ ይሖር፡ ፍኖቶ፡ ውስተ፡ ገልገላ፡ ወእለ፡ ተርፉ፡ ሕዝብ፡ ዐርጉ፡ ወተለውዎ፡ ለሳኦል፡ ወኀለፉ፡ ይትቀበልዎሙ፡ ለሕዝብ፡ እለ፡ ሖሩ፡ ይትቃተሉ፡ ሎሙ፡ ወበጽሑ፡ ውስተ፡ ገልገላ፡ ዘብንያም፡ ውስተ፡ ገባኦን፡ ወኈለቆሙ፡ ሳኦል፡ ለሕዝብ፡ እለ፡ ተረከቡ፡ ምስሌሁ፡ ወኮኑ፡ ስድስተ፡ ምእተ፡ ብእሴ።
Samuel arose, and went from Gilgal to Gibeah of Benjamin. Saul counted the people who were present with him, about six hundred men.
13:16
וְשָׁא֞וּל וְיוֹנָתָ֣ן בְּנ֗וֹ וְהָעָם֙ הַנִּמְצָ֣א עִמָּ֔ם יֹשְׁבִ֖ים בְּגֶ֣בַע בִּנְיָמִ֑ן וּפְלִשְׁתִּ֖ים חָנ֥וּ בְמִכְמָֽשׂ׃
καὶ Σαουλ καὶ Ιωναθαν υἱὸς αὐτοῦ καὶ ὁ λαὸς οἱ εὑρεθέντες μετ’ αὐτῶν ἐκάθισαν ἐν Γαβεε Βενιαμιν καὶ ἔκλαιον καὶ οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι παρεμβεβλήκεισαν εἰς Μαχεμας
Et Saul et Jonathas filius ejus, populusque qui inventus fuerat cum eis, erat in Gabaa Benjamin : porro Philisthiim consederant in Machmas.
ወሳኦልኒ፡ ወዮናታን፡ ወልዱ፡ ወሕዝብኒ፡ እለ፡ ተረክቡ፡ ምስሌሁ፡ ነበሩ፡ ውስተ፡ ገባኦን፡ ዘብንያም፡ ወበከዩ፡ ወኢሎፍሊኒ፡ ተዐየኑ፡ ውስተ፡ መኬማስ።
Saul, and Jonathan his son, and the people who were present with them, stayed in Geba of Benjamin; but the Philistines encamped in Michmash.
13:17
וַיֵּצֵ֧א הַמַּשְׁחִ֛ית מִמַּחֲנֵ֥ה פְלִשְׁתִּ֖ים שְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה רָאשִׁ֑ים הָרֹ֨אשׁ אֶחָ֥ד יִפְנֶ֛ה אֶל־דֶּ֥רֶךְ עׇפְרָ֖ה אֶל־אֶ֥רֶץ שׁוּעָֽל׃
καὶ ἐξῆλθεν διαφθείρων ἐξ ἀγροῦ ἀλλοφύλων τρισὶν ἀρχαῖς ἡ ἀρχὴ ἡ μία ἐπιβλέπουσα ὁδὸν Γοφερα ἐπὶ γῆν Σωγαλ
Et egressi sunt ad praedandum de castris Philisthinorum tres cunei. Unus cuneus pergebat contra viam Ephra ad terram Sual :
ወወፅኡ፡ መስተቃትላን፡ እምነ፡ ሐቅለ፡ ኢሎፍሊ፡ ሠለስቱ፡ ሰራዊት፡ ወሖረ፡ አሐዱ፡ ሰርዌ፡ ላዕለ፡ ፍኖት፡ እንተ፡ ትኔጽር፡ መንገለ፡ ጎፌር፡ ዘኀበ፡ ሶጋክ።
The raiders came out of the camp of the Philistines in three companies: one company turned to the way that leads to Ophrah, to the land of Shual;
13:18
וְהָרֹ֤אשׁ אֶחָד֙ יִפְנֶ֔ה דֶּ֖רֶךְ בֵּ֣ית חֹר֑וֹן וְהָרֹ֨אשׁ אֶחָ֤ד יִפְנֶה֙ דֶּ֣רֶךְ הַגְּב֔וּל הַנִּשְׁקָ֛ף עַל־גֵּ֥י הַצְּבֹעִ֖ים הַמִּדְבָּֽרָה׃ {ס}
καὶ ἡ μία ἀρχὴ ἐπιβλέπουσα ὁδὸν Βαιθωρων καὶ ἡ ἀρχὴ ἡ μία ἐπιβλέπουσα ὁδὸν Γαβεε τὴν εἰσκύπτουσαν ἐπὶ Γαι τὴν Σαβιν
porro alius ingrediebatur per viam Beth-horon : tertius autem verterat se ad iter termini imminentis valli Seboim contra desertum.
ወአሐዱ፡ ሰርዌ፡ ላዕለ፡ ፍኖት፡ እንተ፡ ትኔጽር፡ ዲባ፡ ቤቶሮን ፤ ወአሐዱ፡ ሰርዌ፡ ዲበ፡ ፍኖት፡ እንተ፡ ትኔጽር፡ ላዕለ፡ ገባኦን፡ ወትነሔውጽ፡ ዲበ፡ ጋይ፡ ዘሳቢ።
another company turned the way to Beth Horon; and another company turned the way of the border that looks down on the valley of Zeboim toward the wilderness.
13:19
וְחָרָשׁ֙ לֹ֣א יִמָּצֵ֔א בְּכֹ֖ל אֶ֣רֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל כִּֽי־[אָמְר֣וּ] (אמר) פְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים פֶּ֚ן יַעֲשׂ֣וּ הָעִבְרִ֔ים חֶ֖רֶב א֥וֹ חֲנִֽית׃
καὶ τέκτων σιδήρου οὐχ εὑρίσκετο ἐν πάσῃ γῇ Ισραηλ ὅτι εἶπον οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι μὴ ποιήσωσιν οἱ Εβραῖοι ῥομφαίαν καὶ δόρυ
Porro faber ferrarius non inveniebatur in omni terra Israël : caverant enim Philisthiim, ne forte facerent Hebraei gladium aut lanceam.
ወአልቦ፡ ነሃቤ፡ ሐፂን፡ ውስተ፡ ኵሉ፡ ምድረ፡ እስራኤል፡ እስመ፡ ይቤሉ፡ ኢሎፍሊ፡ ኢይግበሩ፡ ሎሙ፡ ለዕብራውያን፡ ሰይፈ፡ ወኲናተ።
Now there was no blacksmith found throughout all the land of Israel, for the Philistines said, “Lest the Hebrews make themselves swords or spears”;
13:20
וַיֵּרְד֥וּ כׇל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים לִ֠לְט֠וֹשׁ אִ֣ישׁ אֶת־מַחֲרַשְׁתּ֤וֹ וְאֶת־אֵתוֹ֙ וְאֶת־קַרְדֻּמּ֔וֹ וְאֵ֖ת מַחֲרֵשָׁתֽוֹ׃
καὶ κατέβαινον πᾶς Ισραηλ εἰς γῆν ἀλλοφύλων χαλκεύειν ἕκαστος τὸ θέριστρον αὐτοῦ καὶ τὸ σκεῦος αὐτοῦ καὶ ἕκαστος τὴν ἀξίνην αὐτοῦ καὶ τὸ δρέπανον αὐτοῦ
Descendebat ergo omnis Israël ad Philisthiim, ut exacueret unusquisque vomerem suum, et ligonem, et securim, et sarculum.
ወይወርዱ፡ ኵሎሙ፡ እስራኤል፡ ውስተ፡ ምድረ፡ ኢሎፍሊ፡ ከመ፡ ይንሀቡ፡ ሎሙ፡ ንዋየ፡ ሐቅሎሙ፡ ወጕድቦሙ፡ ወማዕፀዶሙ።
but all the Israelites went down to the Philistines, each man to sharpen his own plowshare, mattock, ax, and sickle.
13:21
וְֽהָיְתָ֞ה הַפְּצִ֣ירָה פִ֗ים לַמַּֽחֲרֵשֹׁת֙ וְלָ֣אֵתִ֔ים וְלִשְׁלֹ֥שׁ קִלְּשׁ֖וֹן וּלְהַקַּרְדֻּמִּ֑ים וּלְהַצִּ֖יב הַדָּרְבָֽן׃
καὶ ἦν ὁ τρυγητὸς ἕτοιμος τοῦ θερίζειν τὰ δὲ σκεύη ἦν τρεῖς σίκλοι εἰς τὸν ὀδόντα καὶ τῇ ἀξίνῃ καὶ τῷ δρεπάνῳ ὑπόστασις ἦν ἡ αὐτή
Retusae itaque erant acies vomerum, et ligonum, et tridentum, et securium, usque ad stimulum corrigendum.
ወማእረርሰ፡ በጽሐ፡ ለዐፂድ፡ ወሠለስቱ፡ ሰቅል፡ ሤጡ፡ ለማዕበሉ፡ ወለጕድብኒ፡ ወለማዕፀድኒ፡ ከማሁ፡ ሤጡ።
The price was one payim each to sharpen mattocks, plowshares, pitchforks, axes, and goads.
13:22
וְהָיָה֙ בְּי֣וֹם מִלְחֶ֔מֶת וְלֹ֨א נִמְצָ֜א חֶ֤רֶב וַֽחֲנִית֙ בְּיַ֣ד כׇּל־הָעָ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר אֶת־שָׁא֖וּל וְאֶת־יוֹנָתָ֑ן וַתִּמָּצֵ֣א לְשָׁא֔וּל וּלְיוֹנָתָ֖ן בְּנֽוֹ׃
καὶ ἐγενήθη ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις τοῦ πολέμου Μαχεμας καὶ οὐχ εὑρέθη ῥομφαία καὶ δόρυ ἐν χειρὶ παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ τοῦ μετὰ Σαουλ καὶ μετὰ Ιωναθαν καὶ εὑρέθη τῷ Σαουλ καὶ τῷ Ιωναθαν υἱῷ αὐτοῦ
Cumque venisset dies praelii, non est inventus ensis et lancea in manu totius populi qui erat cum Saule et Jonatha, excepto Saul et Jonatha filio ejus.
ወይእተ፡ አሚረ፡ አመ፡ ፀብአ፡ መኬማስ፡ አልቦ፡ ዘተረክበ፡ ሰይፍ፡ ወኲናት፡ ውስተ፡ እደዊሆሙ፡ ለኵሉ፡ ሕዝብ፡ እለ፡ ምስለ፡ ሳኦል፡ ወዮናታን፡ ወተረክበ፡ ለሳኦል፡ ወለዮናታን፡ ወልዱ።
So it came to pass in the day of battle that neither sword nor spear was found in the hand of any of the people who were with Saul and Jonathan; but Saul and Jonathan his son had them.
13:23
וַיֵּצֵא֙ מַצַּ֣ב פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים אֶֽל־מַעֲבַ֖ר מִכְמָֽשׂ׃ {ס}
καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἐξ ὑποστάσεως τῶν ἀλλοφύλων τὴν ἐν τῷ πέραν Μαχεμας
Egressa est autem statio Philisthiim, ut transcenderet in Machmas.
ወሖረ፡ ውስተ፡ ደወለ፡ ኢሎፍሊ፡ ዘማዕዶተ፡ መኬማስ፡ ወኢነገሮ፡ ለአቡሁ።
The garrison of the Philistines went out to the pass of Michmash.
