9:1
וַיְהִי־אִ֣ישׁ (מבן ימין) [מִבִּנְיָמִ֗ין] וּ֠שְׁמ֠וֹ קִ֣ישׁ בֶּן־אֲבִיאֵ֞ל בֶּן־צְר֧וֹר בֶּן־בְּכוֹרַ֛ת בֶּן־אֲפִ֖יחַ בֶּן־אִ֣ישׁ יְמִינִ֑י גִּבּ֖וֹר חָֽיִל׃
καὶ ἦν ἀνὴρ ἐξ υἱῶν Βενιαμιν καὶ ὄνομα αὐτῷ Κις υἱὸς Αβιηλ υἱοῦ Σαρεδ υἱοῦ Βαχιρ υἱοῦ Αφεκ υἱοῦ ἀνδρὸς Ιεμιναίου ἀνὴρ δυνατός
Et erat vir de Benjamin nomine Cis, filius Abiel, filii Seror, filii Bechorath, filii Aphia, filii viri Jemini, fortis robore.
ወሀሎ፡ ብእሲ፡ አምደቂቀ፡ ብንያም፡ ወስሙ፡ ቂስ፡ ወልደ፡ አቤሄል፡ ወልደ፡ አዴል፡ ወልደ፡ የአኪ፡ ወልደ፡ ሳፌቅ፡ ወልደ፡ ብእሲ፡ ኢያሜንዩ፡ ብእሲ፡ ጽኑዕ።
Now there was a man of Benjamin, whose name was Kish the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Becorath, the son of Aphiah, the son of a Benjamite, a mighty man of valor.
9:2
וְלוֹ־הָיָ֨ה בֵ֜ן וּשְׁמ֤וֹ שָׁאוּל֙ בָּח֣וּר וָט֔וֹב וְאֵ֥ין אִ֛ישׁ מִבְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל ט֣וֹב מִמֶּ֑נּוּ מִשִּׁכְמ֣וֹ וָמַ֔עְלָה גָּבֹ֖הַּ מִכׇּל־הָעָֽם׃
καὶ τούτῳ υἱός καὶ ὄνομα αὐτῷ Σαουλ εὐμεγέθης ἀνὴρ ἀγαθός καὶ οὐκ ἦν ἐν υἱοῖς Ισραηλ ἀγαθὸς ὑπὲρ αὐτόν ὑπὲρ ὠμίαν καὶ ἐπάνω ὑψηλὸς ὑπὲρ πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν
Et erat ei filius vocabulo Saul, electus et bonus : et non erat vir de filiis Israël melior illo : ab humero et sursum eminebat super omnem populum.
ወቦ፡ ውእቱ፡ ወልደ፡ ወስሙ፡ ሳኦል፡ ወሠናይ፡ ቆሙ፡ ወጽኑዕ፡ ብእሲ፡ ወኀያል፡ ወአልቦ፡ ከማሁ፡ በውስተ፡ ኵሉ፡ ደቂቀ፡ እስራኤል፡ ዘይመስሎ፡ ቆመ፡ ወኑኀ፡ እምኵሉ፡ እለ፡ ውስተ፡ ምድር።
He had a son whose name was Saul, an impressive young man; and there was not among the children of Israel a more handsome person than he. From his shoulders and upward he was taller than any of the people.
9:3
וַתֹּאבַ֙דְנָה֙ הָאֲתֹנ֔וֹת לְקִ֖ישׁ אֲבִ֣י שָׁא֑וּל וַיֹּ֨אמֶר קִ֜ישׁ אֶל־שָׁא֣וּל בְּנ֗וֹ קַח־נָ֤א אִתְּךָ֙ אֶת־אַחַ֣ד מֵֽהַנְּעָרִ֔ים וְק֣וּם לֵ֔ךְ בַּקֵּ֖שׁ אֶת־הָאֲתֹנֹֽת׃
καὶ ἀπώλοντο αἱ ὄνοι Κις πατρὸς Σαουλ καὶ εἶπεν Κις πρὸς Σαουλ τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ λαβὲ μετὰ σεαυτοῦ ἓν τῶν παιδαρίων καὶ ἀνάστητε καὶ πορεύθητε καὶ ζητήσατε τὰς ὄνους
Perierant autem asinae Cis patris Saul : et dixit Cis ad Saul filium suum : Tolle tecum unum de pueris, et consurgens vade, et quaere asinas. Qui cum transissent per montem Ephraim
ወተገድፋ፡ አእዱጊሁ፡ ለቂስ፡ አቡሁ፡ ለሳኦል፡ ወይቤሎ፡ ቂስ፡ ለሳኦል፡ ወልዱ፡ ንሣአ፡ ምስሌከ፡ አሐደ፡ እምውስተ፡ ደቅነ፡ ወተንሥኡ፡ ወሑሩ፡ ወኅሡ፡ አእዱጊነ።
The donkeys of Kish, Saul’s father, were lost. Kish said to Saul his son, “Now take one of the servants with you, and arise, go look for the donkeys.”
9:4
וַיַּעֲבֹ֧ר בְּהַר־אֶפְרַ֛יִם וַיַּעֲבֹ֥ר בְּאֶֽרֶץ־שָׁלִ֖שָׁה וְלֹ֣א מָצָ֑אוּ וַיַּעַבְר֤וּ בְאֶרֶץ־שַֽׁעֲלִים֙ וָאַ֔יִן וַיַּעֲבֹ֥ר בְּאֶרֶץ־יְמִינִ֖י וְלֹ֥א מָצָֽאוּ׃
καὶ διῆλθον δῑ ὄρους Εφραιμ καὶ διῆλθον διὰ τῆς γῆς Σελχα καὶ οὐχ εὗρον καὶ διῆλθον διὰ τῆς γῆς Εασακεμ καὶ οὐκ ἦν καὶ διῆλθον διὰ τῆς γῆς Ιακιμ καὶ οὐχ εὗρον
et per terram Salisa, et non invenissent, transierunt etiam per terram Salim, et non erant : sed et per terram Jemini, et minime repererunt.
ወኀለፉ፡ እንተ፡ ደወለ፡ ኤፍሬም፡ ወኀለፉ፡ እንተ፡ ምድረ፡ ኤኮል፡ ወኢረከቡ፡ ወኀለፉ፡ እንተ፡ ምድረ፡ ፋስቂም፡ ወአልቦ፡ ወኀለፉ፡ እንተ፡ ምድረ፡ ኢያሚን፡ ወኢረከብዎሙ።
He passed through the hill country of Ephraim, and passed through the land of Shalishah, but they didn’t find them. Then they passed through the land of Shaalim, and they weren’t there. Then he passed through the land of the Benjamites, but they didn’t find them.
9:5
הֵ֗מָּה בָּ֚אוּ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ צ֔וּף וְשָׁא֥וּל אָמַ֛ר לְנַעֲר֥וֹ אֲשֶׁר־עִמּ֖וֹ לְכָ֣ה וְנָשׁ֑וּבָה פֶּן־יֶחְדַּ֥ל אָבִ֛י מִן־הָאֲתֹנ֖וֹת וְדָ֥אַג לָֽנוּ׃
αὐτῶν ἐλθόντων εἰς τὴν Σιφ καὶ Σαουλ εἶπεν τῷ παιδαρίῳ αὐτοῦ τῷ μετ’ αὐτοῦ δεῦρο καὶ ἀναστρέψωμεν μὴ ἀνεὶς ὁ πατήρ μου τὰς ὄνους φροντίζῃ περὶ ἡμῶν
Cum autem venissent in terram Suph, dixit Saul ad puerum qui erat cum eo : Veni et revertamur, ne forte dimiserit pater meus asinas, et sollicitus sit pro nobis.
ወሶበ፡ በጽሑ፡ ውስተ፡ መሴፋ፡ ይቤሎ፡ ሳኦል፡ ለወልድ፡ ዘምስሌሁ፡ ነዓ፡ ንእቱ፡ ዮጊ፡ ኀደጎ፡ ለአቡየ፡ ትካዘ፡ አእዱግ፡ ወይቴክዝ፡ ይእዜ፡ በእንቲአነ።
When they had come to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant who was with him, “Come! Let’s return, lest my father stop caring about the donkeys and be anxious for us.”
9:6
וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֗וֹ הִנֵּה־נָ֤א אִישׁ־אֱלֹהִים֙ בָּעִ֣יר הַזֹּ֔את וְהָאִ֣ישׁ נִכְבָּ֔ד כֹּ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־יְדַבֵּ֖ר בּ֣וֹא יָב֑וֹא עַתָּה֙ נֵ֣לְכָה שָּׁ֔ם אוּלַי֙ יַגִּ֣יד לָ֔נוּ אֶת־דַּרְכֵּ֖נוּ אֲשֶׁר־הָלַ֥כְנוּ עָלֶֽיהָ׃
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ τὸ παιδάριον ἰδοὺ δὴ ἄνθρωπος τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν τῇ πόλει ταύτῃ καὶ ὁ ἄνθρωπος ἔνδοξος πᾶν ὃ ἐὰν λαλήσῃ παραγινόμενον παρέσται καὶ νῦν πορευθῶμεν ὅπως ἀπαγγείλῃ ἡμῖν τὴν ὁδὸν ἡμῶν ἐφ’ ἣν ἐπορεύθημεν ἐπ’ αὐτήν
Qui ait ei : Ecce vir Dei est in civitate hac, vir nobilis : omne quod loquitur, sine ambiguitate venit. Nunc ergo eamus illuc, si forte indicet nobis de via nostra, propter quam venimus.
ወይቤሎ፡ ውእቱ፡ ወልድ፡ ናሁ፡ ብእሴ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ሀሎ፡ ውስተ፡ ዛቲ፡ ሀገር፡ ወክቡር፡ ብእሲሁ፡ ወኵሉ፡ ዘነበበ፡ ይከውን፡ በጊዜሃ፡ ወይእዜኒ፡ ንሖር፡ ህየ፡ ከመ፡ ያይድዐነ፡ በአይ፡ ፍኖት፡ ንሖር።
The servant said to him, “Behold now, there is a man of God in this city, and he is a man who is held in honor. All that he says surely happens. Now let’s go there. Perhaps he can tell us which way to go.”
9:7
וַיֹּ֨אמֶר שָׁא֜וּל לְנַעֲר֗וֹ וְהִנֵּ֣ה נֵלֵךְ֮ וּמַה־נָּבִ֣יא לָאִישׁ֒ כִּ֤י הַלֶּ֙חֶם֙ אָזַ֣ל מִכֵּלֵ֔ינוּ וּתְשׁוּרָ֥ה אֵין־לְהָבִ֖יא לְאִ֣ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים מָ֖ה אִתָּֽנוּ׃
καὶ εἶπεν Σαουλ τῷ παιδαρίῳ αὐτοῦ τῷ μετ’ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἰδοὺ πορευσόμεθα καὶ τί οἴσομεν τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ τοῦ θεοῦ ὅτι οἱ ἄρτοι ἐκλελοίπασιν ἐκ τῶν ἀγγείων ἡμῶν καὶ πλεῖον οὐκ ἔστιν μεθ’ ἡμῶν εἰσενεγκεῖν τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ τοῦ θεοῦ τὸ ὑπάρχον ἡμῖν
Dixitque Saul ad puerum suum : Ecce ibimus : quid feremus ad virum Dei ? panis defecit in sitarciis nostris, et sportulam non habemus ut demus homini Dei, nec quidquam aliud.
ወይቤሎ፡ ሳኦል፡ ለወልድ፡ ዘምስሌሁ፡ ናሁ፡ ነሐውር፡ ምንተ፡ እንከ፡ ንወስድ፡ ለብእሴ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ እስመ፡ ኅብስትነሂ፡ ኀልቀ፡ እምውስተ፡ መሳንቂነ፡ ወአልብነ፡ ምንተኒ፡ ዘተርፈነ፡ ዘንወስድ፡ ለብእሴ፡ እግዚአብሔር።
Then Saul said to his servant, “But behold, if we go, what should we bring the man? For the bread is spent in our sacks, and there is not a present to bring to the man of God. What do we have?”
9:8
וַיֹּ֤סֶף הַנַּ֙עַר֙ לַעֲנ֣וֹת אֶת־שָׁא֔וּל וַיֹּ֕אמֶר הִנֵּה֙ נִמְצָ֣א בְיָדִ֔י רֶ֖בַע שֶׁ֣קֶל כָּ֑סֶף וְנָֽתַתִּי֙ לְאִ֣ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים וְהִגִּ֥יד לָ֖נוּ אֶת־דַּרְכֵּֽנוּ׃
καὶ προσέθετο τὸ παιδάριον ἀποκριθῆναι τῷ Σαουλ καὶ εἶπεν ἰδοὺ εὕρηται ἐν τῇ χειρί μου τέταρτον σίκλου ἀργυρίου καὶ δώσεις τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ἀπαγγελεῖ ἡμῖν τὴν ὁδὸν ἡμῶν
Rursum puer respondit Sauli, et ait : Ecce inventa est in manu mea quarta pars stateris argenti : demus homini Dei, ut indicet nobis viam nostram.
ወይቤሎ፡ ዳግመ፡ ዝክቱ፡ ወልድ፡ ለሳኦል፡ ናሁ፡ ብየ፡ ኀቤየ፡ ራብዕተ፡ እዴሃ፡ ለሰቅለ፡ ብሩር፡ ወትሁቦ፡ ለብእሴ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ወይነግረነ፡ ፍኖተነ።
The servant answered Saul again and said, “Behold, I have in my hand the fourth part of a shekel of silver. I will give that to the man of God, to tell us our way.”
9:9
לְפָנִ֣ים׀ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל כֹּֽה־אָמַ֤ר הָאִישׁ֙ בְּלֶכְתּוֹ֙ לִדְר֣וֹשׁ אֱלֹהִ֔ים לְכ֥וּ וְנֵלְכָ֖ה עַד־הָרֹאֶ֑ה כִּ֤י לַנָּבִיא֙ הַיּ֔וֹם יִקָּרֵ֥א לְפָנִ֖ים הָרֹאֶֽה׃
καὶ ἔμπροσθεν ἐν Ισραηλ τάδε ἔλεγεν ἕκαστος ἐν τῷ πορεύεσθαι ἐπερωτᾶν τὸν θεόν δεῦρο πορευθῶμεν πρὸς τὸν βλέποντα ὅτι τὸν προφήτην ἐκάλει ὁ λαὸς ἔμπροσθεν ὁ βλέπων
(Olim in Israël sic loquebatur unusquisque vadens consulere Deum : Venite, et eamus ad videntem. Qui enim propheta dicitur hodie, vocabatur olim videns.)
ወቀዲሙኒ፡ ይነግሮሙ፡ ለኵሎሙ፡ እስራኤል፡ እለ፡ ሖሩ፡ ኀቤሁ፡ ከመ፡ ይስአልዎ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር፡ ነዓ፡ እንከሰ፡ ንሖር፡ ኀበ፡ ራእይ፡ እስመ፡ ራእየ፡ ይቤልዎ፡ ሕዝብ፡ ለነመቢይ፡ ትካት።
(In earlier times in Israel, when a man went to inquire of God, he said, “Come! Let’s go to the seer;” for he who is now called a prophet was before called a seer.)
9:10
וַיֹּ֨אמֶר שָׁא֧וּל לְנַעֲר֛וֹ ט֥וֹב דְּבָרְךָ֖ לְכָ֣ה׀נֵלֵ֑כָה וַיֵּֽלְכוּ֙ אֶל־הָעִ֔יר אֲשֶׁר־שָׁ֖ם אִ֥ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃
καὶ εἶπεν Σαουλ πρὸς τὸ παιδάριον αὐτοῦ ἀγαθὸν τὸ ῥῆμα δεῦρο καὶ πορευθῶμεν καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν εἰς τὴν πόλιν οὗ ἦν ἐκεῖ ὁ ἄνθρωπος τοῦ θεοῦ
Et dixit Saul ad puerum suum : Optimus sermo tuus. Veni, eamus. Et ierunt in civitatem in qua erat vir Dei.
ወይቤሎ፡ ሳኦል፡ ለወልድ፡ ነዓ፡ ንሖር ፤ ሠናየ፡ ትቤ ፤ ወሖሩ፡ ውስተ፡ ሀገር፡ ኀበ፡ ሀሎ፡ ብእሴ፡ እግዚአብሔር።
Then Saul said to his servant, “Well said. Come! Let’s go.” So they went to the city where the man of God was.
9:11
הֵ֗מָּה עֹלִים֙ בְּמַעֲלֵ֣ה הָעִ֔יר וְהֵ֙מָּה֙ מָצְא֣וּ נְעָר֔וֹת יֹצְא֖וֹת לִשְׁאֹ֣ב מָ֑יִם וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ לָהֶ֔ן הֲיֵ֥שׁ בָּזֶ֖ה הָרֹאֶֽה׃
αὐτῶν ἀναβαινόντων τὴν ἀνάβασιν τῆς πόλεως καὶ αὐτοὶ εὑρίσκουσιν τὰ κοράσια ἐξεληλυθότα ὑδρεύσασθαι ὕδωρ καὶ λέγουσιν αὐταῖς εἰ ἔστιν ἐνταῦθα ὁ βλέπων
Cumque ascenderent clivum civitatis, invenerunt puellas egredientes ad hauriendam aquam, et dixerunt eis : Num hic est videns ?
ወሶበ፡ ዐርጉ፡ ውስተ፡ መዓርግ፡ ለበዊአ፡ ሀገር፡ ወረከቡ፡ እዋልደ፡ ይወጽኣ፡ ሐዋርያት፡ ማይ፡ ወይቤልዎን፡ ቦኑ፡ ራእይ፡ ዝየ።
As they went up the ascent to the city, they found young maidens going out to draw water, and said to them, “Is the seer here?”
9:12
וַתַּעֲנֶ֧ינָה אוֹתָ֛ם וַתֹּאמַ֥רְנָה יֵּ֖שׁ הִנֵּ֣ה לְפָנֶ֑יךָ מַהֵ֣ר׀ עַתָּ֗ה כִּ֤י הַיּוֹם֙ בָּ֣א לָעִ֔יר כִּ֣י זֶ֧בַח הַיּ֛וֹם לָעָ֖ם בַּבָּמָֽה׃
καὶ ἀπεκρίθη τὰ κοράσια αὐτοῖς καὶ λέγουσιν αὐτοῖς ἔστιν ἰδοὺ κατὰ πρόσωπον ὑμῶν νῦν διὰ τὴν ἡμέραν ἥκει εἰς τὴν πόλιν ὅτι θυσία σήμερον τῷ λαῷ ἐν Βαμα
Quae respondentes, dixerunt illis : Hic est : ecce ante te, festina nunc : hodie enim venit in civitatem, quia sacrificium est hodie populi in excelso.
ወአውሥኣሆሙ፡ እማንቱ፡ አዋልድ፡ ወይቤላሆሙ፡ እወ፡ ቦ፡ ወነዋ፡ ቅድሜክሙ፡ ሀሎ፡ ይእዜ፡ በበይነ፡ ዕለት፡ መጽአ፡ ውስተ፡ ሀገር፡ እስመ፡ መሥዋዕተ፡ ቦሙ፡ ለሕዝብ፡ ዮም፡ በባማ።
They answered them and said, “He is. Behold, he is before you. Hurry now, for he has come today into the city; for the people have a sacrifice today in the high place.
9:13
כְּבֹאֲכֶ֣ם הָעִ֣יר כֵּ֣ן תִּמְצְא֣וּן אֹת֡וֹ בְּטֶ֩רֶם֩ יַעֲלֶ֨ה הַבָּמָ֜תָה לֶאֱכֹ֗ל כִּ֠י לֹֽא־יֹאכַ֤ל הָעָם֙ עַד־בֹּא֔וֹ כִּי־הוּא֙ יְבָרֵ֣ךְ הַזֶּ֔בַח אַחֲרֵי־כֵ֖ן יֹאכְל֣וּ הַקְּרֻאִ֑ים וְעַתָּ֣ה עֲל֔וּ כִּי־אֹת֥וֹ כְהַיּ֖וֹם תִּמְצְא֥וּן אֹתֽוֹ׃
ὡς ἂν εἰσέλθητε τὴν πόλιν οὕτως εὑρήσετε αὐτὸν ἐν τῇ πόλει πρὶν ἀναβῆναι αὐτὸν εἰς Βαμα τοῦ φαγεῖν ὅτι οὐ μὴ φάγῃ ὁ λαὸς ἕως τοῦ εἰσελθεῖν αὐτόν ὅτι οὗτος εὐλογεῖ τὴν θυσίαν καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα ἐσθίουσιν οἱ ξένοι καὶ νῦν ἀνάβητε ὅτι διὰ τὴν ἡμέραν εὑρήσετε αὐτόν
Ingredientes urbem, statim invenietis eum antequam ascendat excelsum ad vescendum, neque enim comesurus est populus donec ille veniat : quia ipse benedicit hostiae, et deinceps comedunt qui vocati sunt. Nunc ergo conscendite, quia hodie reperietis eum.
ወሶበ፡ ቦእክሙ፡ ውስተ፡ ሀገር፡ ትረክብዎ፡ በውስተ፡ ሀገር፡ ዘእንበለ፡ ይዕርግ፡ ውስተ፡ ባማ፡ ለበሊዕ፡ እስመ፡ ኢይበልዑ፡ ሕዝብ፡ ዘእንበለ፡ ይባእ፡ ውእቱ፡ (ውስተ፡ ሀገር፡) እስመ፡ ውእቱ፡ ይባርክ፡ መሥዋዕቶሙ፡ ወእምድኅረ፡ ዝንቱ፡ ይበልዑ፡ እንግዳሂ ፤ ወይእዜኒ፡ ዕርጉ፡ እስመ፡ በበይነ፡ ዕለት፡ ትረክብዎ።
As soon as you have come into the city, you will immediately find him before he goes up to the high place to eat; for the people will not eat until he comes, because he blesses the sacrifice. Afterwards those who are invited eat. Now therefore go up; for at this time you will find him.”
9:14
וַֽיַּעֲל֖וּ הָעִ֑יר הֵ֗מָּה בָּאִים֙ בְּת֣וֹךְ הָעִ֔יר וְהִנֵּ֤ה שְׁמוּאֵל֙ יֹצֵ֣א לִקְרָאתָ֔ם לַעֲל֖וֹת הַבָּמָֽה׃ {ס}
καὶ ἀναβαίνουσιν τὴν πόλιν αὐτῶν εἰσπορευομένων εἰς μέσον τῆς πόλεως καὶ ἰδοὺ Σαμουηλ ἐξῆλθεν εἰς ἀπάντησιν αὐτῶν τοῦ ἀναβῆναι εἰς Βαμα
Et ascenderunt in civitatem. Cumque illi ambularent in medio urbis, apparuit Samuel egrediens obviam eis, ut ascenderet in excelsum.
ወዐርጉ፡ ወሶበ፡ ቦኡ፡ ማእከለ፡ ሀገር፡ ናሁ፡ ሳሙኤል፡ ወፅአ፡ ቅድሜሆሙ፡ ከመ፡ ይዕርግ፡ ውስተ፡ ባማ።
They went up to the city. As they came within the city, behold, Samuel came out toward them to go up to the high place.
9:15
וַֽיהֹוָ֔ה גָּלָ֖ה אֶת־אֹ֣זֶן שְׁמוּאֵ֑ל י֣וֹם אֶחָ֔ד לִפְנֵ֥י בֽוֹא־שָׁא֖וּל לֵאמֹֽר׃
καὶ κύριος ἀπεκάλυψεν τὸ ὠτίον Σαμουηλ ἡμέρᾳ μιᾷ ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ ἐλθεῖν πρὸς αὐτὸν Σαουλ λέγων
Dominus autem revelaverat auriculam Samuelis ante unam diem quam veniret Saul, dicens :
ወከሠቶ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ እዝኖ፡ ለሳሙኤል፡ እምቅድመ፡ አሐቲ፡ ዕለት፡ ዘይመጽእ፡ ሳኦል፡
Now Yahweh had revealed to Samuel a day before Saul came, saying,
9:16
כָּעֵ֣ת׀מָחָ֡ר אֶשְׁלַח֩ אֵלֶ֨יךָ אִ֜ישׁ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ בִּנְיָמִ֗ן וּמְשַׁחְתּ֤וֹ לְנָגִיד֙ עַל־עַמִּ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְהוֹשִׁ֥יעַ אֶת־עַמִּ֖י מִיַּ֣ד פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים כִּ֤י רָאִ֙יתִי֙ אֶת־עַמִּ֔י כִּ֛י בָּ֥אָה צַעֲקָת֖וֹ אֵלָֽי׃
ὡς ὁ καιρὸς αὔριον ἀποστελῶ πρὸς σὲ ἄνδρα ἐκ γῆς Βενιαμιν καὶ χρίσεις αὐτὸν εἰς ἄρχοντα ἐπὶ τὸν λαόν μου Ισραηλ καὶ σώσει τὸν λαόν μου ἐκ χειρὸς ἀλλοφύλων ὅτι ἐπέβλεψα ἐπὶ τὴν ταπείνωσιν τοῦ λαοῦ μου ὅτι ἦλθεν βοὴ αὐτῶν πρός με
Hac ipsa hora quae nunc est, cras mittam virum ad te de terra Benjamin, et unges eum ducem super populum meum Israël : et salvabit populum meum de manu Philisthinorum, quia respexi populum meum : venit enim clamor eorum ad me.
ወይቤሎ፡ ጌሠመ፡ ዘጊዜ፡ እፌኑ፡ ኀቤከ፡ ብእሴ፡ እምነ፡ ምድረ፡ ብንያም፡ ወቅብኦ፡ ወአንግሦ፡ ላዕለ፡ እስራኤል፡ ወያድኅኖሙ፡ ለሕዝብየ፡ እምእዴሆሙ፡ ለኢሎፍሊ፡ እስመ፡ ርኢኩ፡ ሕማሞሙ፡ ለሕዝብየ፡ እስመ፡ በጽሐ፡ ገዓሮሙ፡ ኀቤየ።
“Tomorrow about this time I will send you a man out of the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him to be prince over my people Israel. He will save my people out of the hand of the Philistines; for I have looked upon my people, because their cry has come to me.”
9:17
וּשְׁמוּאֵ֖ל רָאָ֣ה אֶת־שָׁא֑וּל וַיהֹוָ֣ה עָנָ֔הוּ הִנֵּ֤ה הָאִישׁ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אָמַ֣רְתִּי אֵלֶ֔יךָ זֶ֖ה יַעְצֹ֥ר בְּעַמִּֽי׃
καὶ Σαμουηλ εἶδεν τὸν Σαουλ καὶ κύριος ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῷ ἰδοὺ ὁ ἄνθρωπος ὃν εἶπά σοι οὗτος ἄρξει ἐν τῷ λαῷ μου
Cumque aspexisset Samuel Saulem, Dominus dixit ei : Ecce vir quem dixeram tibi : iste dominabitur populo meo.
ወሶበ፡ ርእዮ፡ ሳሙኤል፡ ለሳኦል፡ ይቤሎ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ለሳሙኤል፡ ነዋ፡ ዝኩ፡ ብእሲ፡ ዘእቤለከ፡ ናሁ፡ ዝንቱ፡ ይነግሥ፡ ለሕዝብየ።
When Samuel saw Saul, Yahweh said to him, “Behold, the man of whom I spoke to you! He will have authority over my people.”
9:18
וַיִּגַּ֥שׁ שָׁא֛וּל אֶת־שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל בְּת֣וֹךְ הַשָּׁ֑עַר וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ הַגִּֽידָה־נָּ֣א לִ֔י אֵי־זֶ֖ה בֵּ֥ית הָרֹאֶֽה׃
καὶ προσήγαγεν Σαουλ πρὸς Σαμουηλ εἰς μέσον τῆς πόλεως καὶ εἶπεν ἀπάγγειλον δὴ ποῖος ὁ οἶκος τοῦ βλέποντος
Accessit autem Saul ad Samuelem in medio portae, et ait : Indica, oro, mihi, ubi est domus videntis.
ወመጽአ፡ ሳኦል፡ ኀበ፡ ሳሙኤል፡ ወይቤሎ፡ አይድዐኒ፡ አይቴ፡ ቤቱ፡ ለራእይ።
Then Saul approached Samuel in the gateway, and said, “Please tell me where the seer’s house is.”
9:19
וַיַּ֨עַן שְׁמוּאֵ֜ל אֶת־שָׁא֗וּל וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אָנֹכִ֣י הָרֹאֶ֔ה עֲלֵ֤ה לְפָנַי֙ הַבָּמָ֔ה וַאֲכַלְתֶּ֥ם עִמִּ֖י הַיּ֑וֹם וְשִׁלַּחְתִּ֣יךָ בַבֹּ֔קֶר וְכֹ֛ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר בִּֽלְבָבְךָ֖ אַגִּ֥יד לָֽךְ׃
καὶ ἀπεκρίθη Σαμουηλ τῷ Σαουλ καὶ εἶπεν ἐγώ εἰμι αὐτός ἀνάβηθι ἔμπροσθέν μου εἰς Βαμα καὶ φάγε μετ’ ἐμοῦ σήμερον καὶ ἐξαποστελῶ σε πρωὶ καὶ πάντα τὰ ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ σου ἀπαγγελῶ σοι
Et respondit Samuel Sauli, dicens : Ego sum videns : ascende ante me in excelsum, ut comedatis mecum hodie, et dimittam te mane : et omnia quae sunt in corde tuo indicabo tibi.
ወአውሥአ፡ ሳሙኤል፡ ወይቤሎ፡ አነ፡ ውእቱ ፤ ዕርግ፡ ምስሌየ፡ ውስተ፡ ባማ፡ ወምሳሕ፡ ምስሌየ፡ ዮም፡ ወእፌንወከ፡ ጌሠመ፡ በጽባሕ፡ ወእነግረከ፡ ኵሎ፡ ዘውስተ፡ ልብየ።
Samuel answered Saul and said, “I am the seer. Go up before me to the high place, for you are to eat with me today. In the morning I will let you go and will tell you all that is in your heart.
9:20
וְלָאֲתֹנ֞וֹת הָאֹבְד֣וֹת לְךָ֗ הַיּוֹם֙ שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת הַיָּמִ֔ים אַל־תָּ֧שֶׂם אֶֽת־לִבְּךָ֛ לָהֶ֖ם כִּ֣י נִמְצָ֑אוּ וּלְמִי֙ כׇּל־חֶמְדַּ֣ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הֲל֣וֹא לְךָ֔ וּלְכֹ֖ל בֵּ֥ית אָבִֽיךָ׃ {ס}
καὶ περὶ τῶν ὄνων σου τῶν ἀπολωλυιῶν σήμερον τριταίων μὴ θῇς τὴν καρδίαν σου αὐταῖς ὅτι εὕρηνται καὶ τίνι τὰ ὡραῖα τοῦ Ισραηλ οὐ σοὶ καὶ τῷ οἴκῳ τοῦ πατρός σου
Et de asinis quas nudiustertius perdidisti, ne sollicitus sis, quia inventae sunt. Et cujus erunt optima quaeque Israël ? nonne tibi et omni domui patris tui ?
ወበበይነ፡ አእዱጊከኒ፡ እለ፡ ተገድፉ፡ ሠለስቱ፡ ኢታሕምም፡ ልበከ፡ እስመ፡ ተረክቡ ፤ አኮኑ፡ ለከ፡ ውእቱ፡ ኵሉ፡ ደወሎሙ፡ ለእስራኤል፡ ወለቤተ፡ አቡከ።
As for your donkeys who were lost three days ago, don’t set your mind on them, for they have been found. For whom does all Israel desire? Is it not you and all your father’s house?”
9:21
וַיַּ֨עַן שָׁא֜וּל וַיֹּ֗אמֶר הֲל֨וֹא בֶן־יְמִינִ֤י אָנֹ֙כִי֙ מִקְּטַנֵּי֙ שִׁבְטֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וּמִשְׁפַּחְתִּי֙ הַצְּעִרָ֔ה מִכׇּֽל־מִשְׁפְּח֖וֹת שִׁבְטֵ֣י בִנְיָמִ֑ן וְלָ֙מָּה֙ דִּבַּ֣רְתָּ אֵלַ֔י כַּדָּבָ֖ר הַזֶּֽה׃ {ס}
καὶ ἀπεκρίθη Σαουλ καὶ εἶπεν οὐχὶ ἀνδρὸς υἱὸς Ιεμιναίου ἐγώ εἰμι τοῦ μικροῦ σκήπτρου φυλῆς Ισραηλ καὶ τῆς φυλῆς τῆς ἐλαχίστης ἐξ ὅλου σκήπτρου Βενιαμιν καὶ ἵνα τί ἐλάλησας πρὸς ἐμὲ κατὰ τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο
Respondens autem Saul, ait : Numquid non filius Jemini ego sum de minima tribu Israël, et cognatio mea novissima inter omnes familias de tribu Benjamin ? quare ergo locutus es mihi sermonem istum ?
ወተሠጥዎ፡ ሳኦል፡ ወይቤሎ፡ ለምንት፡ ትብለኒ፡ ከመዝ ፤ እኮኑ፡ ብእሲ፡ ኢያሜናዊ፡ አነ፡ እምእንተ፡ ትንእስ፡ በትረ፡ ነገዶሙ፡ ለእስራኤል፡ ወእምሕዝብ፡ ዘይቴሐት፡ እምኵሉ፡ በትረ፡ ብንያም ፤ ለምንት፡ ትብለኒ፡ ዘንተ፡ ነገረ።
Saul answered, “Am I not a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? And my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? Why then do you speak to me like this?”
9:22
וַיִּקַּ֤ח שְׁמוּאֵל֙ אֶת־שָׁא֣וּל וְאֶֽת־נַעֲר֔וֹ וַיְבִיאֵ֖ם לִשְׁכָּ֑תָה וַיִּתֵּ֨ן לָהֶ֤ם מָקוֹם֙ בְּרֹ֣אשׁ הַקְּרוּאִ֔ים וְהֵ֖מָּה כִּשְׁלֹשִׁ֥ם אִֽישׁ׃
καὶ ἔλαβεν Σαμουηλ τὸν Σαουλ καὶ τὸ παιδάριον αὐτοῦ καὶ εἰσήγαγεν αὐτοὺς εἰς τὸ κατάλυμα καὶ ἔθετο αὐτοῖς τόπον ἐν πρώτοις τῶν κεκλημένων ὡσεὶ ἑβδομήκοντα ἀνδρῶν
Assumens itaque Samuel Saulem et puerum ejus, introduxit eos in triclinium, et dedit eis locum in capite eorum qui fuerant invitati : erant enim quasi triginta viri.
ወነሥኦሙ፡ ሳሙኤል፡ ለሳኦል፡ ወለወልዱ፡ ወአዕረጎሙ፡ ውስተ፡ ማኅደሩ፡ ወአርፈቆሙ፡ ውስተ፡ ርእሰ፡ ምርፋቅ፡ ኀበ፡ ይመስሑ፡ ፸ብእሲ።
Samuel took Saul and his servant and brought them into the guest room, and made them sit in the best place among those who were invited, who were about thirty persons.
9:23
וַיֹּ֤אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵל֙ לַטַּבָּ֔ח תְּנָה֙ אֶת־הַמָּנָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָתַ֖תִּי לָ֑ךְ אֲשֶׁר֙ אָמַ֣רְתִּי אֵלֶ֔יךָ שִׂ֥ים אֹתָ֖הּ עִמָּֽךְ׃
καὶ εἶπεν Σαμουηλ τῷ μαγείρῳ δός μοι τὴν μερίδα ἣν ἔδωκά σοι ἣν εἶπά σοι θεῖναι αὐτὴν παρὰ σοί
Dixitque Samuel coco : Da partem quam dedi tibi, et praecepi ut reponeres seorsum apud te.
ወይቤሎ፡ ሳሙኤል፡ ለመበስል፡ ሀብ፡ ክፍለ፡ ዘእቤለክ፡ አንብር፡ ሊተ፡ ኀቤከ።
Samuel said to the cook, “Bring the portion which I gave you, of which I said to you, ‘Set it aside.’”
9:24
וַיָּ֣רֶם הַ֠טַּבָּ֠ח אֶת־הַשּׁ֨וֹק וְהֶעָלֶ֜יהָ וַיָּ֣שֶׂם׀ לִפְנֵ֣י שָׁא֗וּל וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ הִנֵּ֤ה הַנִּשְׁאָר֙ שִׂים־לְפָנֶ֣יךָֽ אֱכֹ֔ל כִּ֧י לַמּוֹעֵ֛ד שָֽׁמוּר־לְךָ֥ לֵאמֹ֖ר הָעָ֣ם׀קָרָ֑אתִי וַיֹּ֧אכַל שָׁא֛וּל עִם־שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל בַּיּ֥וֹם הַהֽוּא׃
καὶ ὕψωσεν ὁ μάγειρος τὴν κωλέαν καὶ παρέθηκεν αὐτὴν ἐνώπιον Σαουλ καὶ εἶπεν Σαμουηλ τῷ Σαουλ ἰδοὺ ὑπόλειμμα παράθες αὐτὸ ἐνώπιόν σου καὶ φάγε ὅτι εἰς μαρτύριον τέθειταί σοι παρὰ τοὺς ἄλλους ἀπόκνιζε καὶ ἔφαγεν Σαουλ μετὰ Σαμουηλ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ
Levavit autem cocus armum, et posuit ante Saul. Dixitque Samuel : Ecce quod remansit : pone ante te, et comede, quia de industria servatum est tibi quando populum vocavi. Et comedit Saul cum Samuele in die illa.
ወአምጽአ፡ ውእቱ፡ መበስል፡ ዝኰ፡ ክፍለ፡ ወአንበረ፡ ቅድሜሁ፡ ለሳኦል፡ ወይቤሎ፡ ሳሙኤል፡ ለሳኦል፡ ናሁ፡ እምውስተ፡ ዘተርፈከ፡ እንብር፡ ቅድሜከ፡ ወብላዕ፡ እስመ፡ ለስምዕ፡ ተሠይመ፡ ለከ፡ እምነ፡ ቢጽከ፡ ወብላዕ፡ መብልዐ፡ ወበልዐ፡ ሳኦል፡ ምስለ፡ ሳሙኤል፡ በይእቲ፡ ዕለት።
The cook took up the thigh, and that which was on it, and set it before Saul. Samuel said, “Behold, that which has been reserved! Set it before yourself and eat; because it has been kept for you for the appointed time, for I said, ‘I have invited the people.’” So Saul ate with Samuel that day.
9:25
וַיֵּרְד֥וּ מֵהַבָּמָ֖ה הָעִ֑יר וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר עִם־שָׁא֖וּל עַל־הַגָּֽג׃
καὶ κατέβη ἐκ τῆς Βαμα ἐν τῇ πόλει καὶ διέστρωσαν τῷ Σαουλ ἐπὶ τῷ δώματι
Et descenderunt de excelso in oppidum, et locutus est cum Saule in solario : stravitque Saul in solario, et dormivit.
ወወረደ፡ እምነ፡ ባማ፡ ውስተ፡ ሀገር፡ ወነጸፈ፡ ሎቱ፡ ለሳኦል፡ ውስተ፡ ናሕስ፡ ወቤተ።
When they had come down from the high place into the city, he talked with Saul on the housetop.
9:26
וַיַּשְׁכִּ֗מוּ וַיְהִ֞י כַּעֲל֤וֹת הַשַּׁ֙חַר֙ וַיִּקְרָ֨א שְׁמוּאֵ֤ל אֶל־שָׁאוּל֙ (הגג) [הַגָּ֣גָה] לֵאמֹ֔ר ק֖וּמָה וַאֲשַׁלְּחֶ֑ךָּ וַיָּ֣קׇם שָׁא֗וּל וַיֵּצְא֧וּ שְׁנֵיהֶ֛ם ה֥וּא וּשְׁמוּאֵ֖ל הַחֽוּצָה׃
καὶ ἐκοιμήθη καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἀνέβαινεν ὁ ὄρθρος καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Σαμουηλ τὸν Σαουλ ἐπὶ τῷ δώματι λέγων ἀνάστα καὶ ἐξαποστελῶ σε καὶ ἀνέστη Σαουλ καὶ ἐξῆλθεν αὐτὸς καὶ Σαμουηλ ἕως ἔξω
Cumque mane surrexissent, et jam elucesceret, vocavit Samuel Saulem in solario, dicens : Surge, et dimittam te. Et surrexit Saul : egressique sunt ambo, ipse videlicet, et Samuel.
ወሶበ፡ ጎሐ፡ ጸውዖ፡ ሳሙኤል፡ ለሳኦል፡ እምነ፡ ናሕስ፡ ወይቤሎ፡ ተንሥእ፡ እፈኑከ፡ ወተንሥአ፡ ሳኦል፡ ወወፅኡ፡ ክልኤሆሙ፡ ውእቱ፡ ወሳሙኤል፡ እስከ፡ አፍአ።
They arose early; and about daybreak, Samuel called to Saul on the housetop, saying, “Get up, that I may send you away.” Saul arose, and they both went outside, he and Samuel, together.
9:27
הֵ֗מָּה יֽוֹרְדִים֙ בִּקְצֵ֣ה הָעִ֔יר וּשְׁמוּאֵ֞ל אָמַ֣ר אֶל־שָׁא֗וּל אֱמֹ֥ר לַנַּ֛עַר וְיַעֲבֹ֥ר לְפָנֵ֖ינוּ וַֽיַּעֲבֹ֑ר וְאַתָּה֙ עֲמֹ֣ד כַּיּ֔וֹם וְאַשְׁמִיעֲךָ֖ אֶת־דְּבַ֥ר אֱלֹהִֽים׃ {פ}
αὐτῶν καταβαινόντων εἰς μέρος τῆς πόλεως καὶ Σαμουηλ εἶπεν τῷ Σαουλ εἰπὸν τῷ νεανίσκῳ καὶ διελθέτω ἔμπροσθεν ἡμῶν καὶ σὺ στῆθι ὡς σήμερον καὶ ἄκουσον ῥῆμα θεοῦ
Cumque descenderent in extrema parte civitatis, Samuel dixit ad Saul : Dic puero ut antecedat nos et transeat : tu autem subsiste paulisper, ut indicem tibi verbum Domini.
ወሶበ፡ ወረዱ፡ ውስተ፡ አሐዱ፡ ኅብረ፡ ሀገር፡ ወይቤሎ፡ ሳሙኤል፡ ለሳኦል፡ በሎ፡ ለወልድከ፡ ይሑር፡ ይቅድም፡ እምኔነ፡ ወአንተስ፡ ቁም፡ ምስሌየ፡ ወስማዕ፡ ቃለ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ (እስመ፡ አንተ፡ ትነግሥ፡ ላዕለ፡ ሕዝበ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡)።
As they were going down at the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, “Tell the servant to go on ahead of us.” He went ahead, then Samuel said, “But stand still first, that I may cause you to hear God’s message.”
