16:1
וַיַּ֥עַן אִיּ֗וֹב וַיֹּאמַֽר׃
ὑπολαβὼν δὲ Ιωβ λέγει
Respondens autem Job, dixit :
ወእደ፡ ተናገረ፡ ኢዮብ፡ ተሰጥወ፡ ወይቤ።
Then Job answered,
16:2
שָׁמַ֣עְתִּי כְאֵ֣לֶּה רַבּ֑וֹת מְנַחֲמֵ֖י עָמָ֣ל כֻּלְּכֶֽם׃
ἀκήκοα τοιαῦτα πολλά παρακλήτορες κακῶν πάντες
Audivi frequenter talia : consolatores onerosi omnes vos estis.
ብዙኅ፡ ሰማዕኩ፡ ዘከመዝ፡ ወመናዝዛን፡ ለእኪት፡ ኵልክሙ፡፡ 3፡ ኵሎ፡ ዘመጽአክሙ፡ ትነብቡ፡ ዘእንበለ፡ ዐቅም፡ ምንተ፡ አጽሐብኩክሙ፡ ከመ፡ ትትዋሥኢኒ።
“I have heard many such things. You are all miserable comforters!
16:3
הֲקֵ֥ץ לְדִבְרֵי־ר֑וּחַ א֥וֹ מַה־יַּ֝מְרִֽיצְךָ֗ כִּ֣י תַֽעֲנֶֽה׃
τί γάρ μὴ τάξις ἐστὶν ῥήμασιν πνεύματος ἢ τί παρενοχλήσει σοι ὅτι ἀποκρίνῃ
Numquid habebunt finem verba ventosa ? aut aliquid tibi molestum est, si loquaris ?
—
Shall vain words have an end? Or what provokes you that you answer?
16:4
גַּ֤ם׀ אָנֹכִי֮ כָּכֶ֢ם אֲדַ֫בֵּ֥רָה ל֤וּ יֵ֪שׁ נַפְשְׁכֶ֡ם תַּ֤חַת נַפְשִׁ֗י אַחְבִּ֣ירָה עֲלֵיכֶ֣ם בְּמִלִּ֑ים וְאָנִ֥יעָה עֲ֝לֵיכֶ֗ם בְּמ֣וֹ רֹאשִֽׁי׃
κἀγὼ καθ’ ὑμᾶς λαλήσω εἰ ὑπέκειτό γε ἡ ψυχὴ ὑμῶν ἀντὶ τῆς ἐμῆς εἶτ’ ἐναλοῦμαι ὑμῖν ῥήμασιν κινήσω δὲ καθ’ ὑμῶν κεφαλήν
Poteram et ego similia vestri loqui, atque utinam esset anima vestra pro anima mea :
ወእነሂ፡ ዘከመ፡ ትብሉ፡ እወሥአክሙሰ፡ በነፍስክሙኑ፡ ትቤ፡ ዝውዋ፡ ለነፍስየ።
I also could speak as you do. If your soul were in my soul’s place, I could join words together against you, and shake my head at you,
16:5
אֲאַמִּצְכֶ֥ם בְּמוֹ־פִ֑י וְנִ֖יד שְׂפָתַ֣י יַחְשֹֽׂךְ׃
εἴη δὲ ἰσχὺς ἐν τῷ στόματί μου κίνησιν δὲ χειλέων οὐ φείσομαι
consolarer et ego vos sermonibus, et moverem caput meum super vos ;
ወእነግረክሙ፡ ነገረ፡ ወአሐውስ፡ ርእስየ፡ ለክሙ።
but I would strengthen you with my mouth. The solace of my lips would relieve you.
16:6
אִֽם־אֲ֭דַבְּרָה לֹא־יֵחָשֵׂ֣ךְ כְּאֵבִ֑י וְ֝אַחְדְּלָ֗ה מַה־מִּנִּ֥י יַהֲלֹֽךְ׃
ἐὰν γὰρ λαλήσω οὐκ ἀλγήσω τὸ τραῦμα ἐὰν δὲ καὶ σιωπήσω τί ἔλαττον τρωθήσομαι
roborarem vos ore meo, et moverem labia mea, quasi parcens vobis.
ወሶበሁ፡ ብየ፡ ኃይል፡ ውስተ፡ አፉየ፡ እምኢምህኩ፡ ከናፍርየ፡ ወእም፡ ዘኄስኩ፡ ዘእነብብ።
“Though I speak, my grief is not subsided. Though I forbear, what am I eased?
16:7
אַךְ־עַתָּ֥ה הֶלְאָ֑נִי הֲ֝שִׁמּ֗וֹתָ כׇּל־עֲדָתִֽי׃
νῦν δὲ κατάκοπόν με πεποίηκεν μωρόν σεσηπότα
Sed quid agam ? Si locutus fuero, non quiescet dolor meus, et si tacuero, non recedet a me.
እመሂ፡ ነበብኩ፡ ኢይጥዒ፡ ቊስልየ፡ ወእመሂ፡ አርመምኩ፡ ይብእሲ፡ ሕማምየ።
But now, God, you have surely worn me out. You have made all my company desolate.
16:8
וַֽ֭תִּקְמְטֵנִי לְעֵ֣ד הָיָ֑ה וַיָּ֥קׇם בִּ֥י כַ֝חֲשִׁ֗י בְּפָנַ֥י יַעֲנֶֽה׃
καὶ ἐπελάβου μου εἰς μαρτύριον ἐγενήθη καὶ ἀνέστη ἐν ἐμοὶ τὸ ψεῦδός μου κατὰ πρόσωπόν μου ἀνταπεκρίθη
Nunc autem oppressit me dolor meus, et in nihilum redacti sunt omnes artus mei.
ይእዜሰ፡ ግማዳተ፡ ዐብድ፡ ወቅንጣበተ፡ ረሰይከኒ።
You have shriveled me up. This is a witness against me. My leanness rises up against me. It testifies to my face.
16:9
אַפּ֤וֹ טָרַ֨ף׀ וַֽיִּשְׂטְמֵ֗נִי חָרַ֣ק עָלַ֣י בְּשִׁנָּ֑יו צָרִ֓י׀ יִלְטֹ֖שׁ עֵינָ֣יו לִֽי׃
ὀργῇ χρησάμενος κατέβαλέν με ἔβρυξεν ἐπ’ ἐμὲ τοὺς ὀδόντας βέλη πειρατῶν αὐτοῦ ἐπ’ ἐμοὶ ἔπεσεν
Rugae meae testimonium dicunt contra me, et suscitatur falsiloquus adversus faciem meam, contradicens mihi.
ወኮነ፡ ስምዐ፡ እኂዞትከ፡ ወተንሥአት፡ ሐሰትየ፡ ላዕሌየ፡ ወተዋቀሠተኒ፡ ቅድመ፡ ገጽየ።
He has torn me in his wrath and persecuted me. He has gnashed on me with his teeth. My adversary sharpens his eyes on me.
16:10
פָּעֲר֬וּ עָלַ֨י׀ בְּפִיהֶ֗ם בְּ֭חֶרְפָּה הִכּ֣וּ לְחָיָ֑י יַ֝֗חַד עָלַ֥י יִתְמַלָּאֽוּן׃
ἀκίσιν ὀφθαλμῶν ἐνήλατο ὀξεῖ ἔπαισέν με εἰς σιαγόνα ὁμοθυμαδὸν δὲ κατέδραμον ἐπ’ ἐμοί
Collegit furorem suum in me, et comminans mihi, infremuit contra me dentibus suis : hostis meus terribilibus oculis me intuitus est.
ወተምዒዖ፡ በመዓቱ፡ ነጽሐኒ፡ ወሐቀየ፡ ስነኒ፡ ላዕሌየ፡ ወአሕፃሁኒ፡ ዲቤየ፡ አመከረ፡፡ 11፡ ወለከዋኒ፡ አዕይንትየ፡ ወበሕቱ፡ አጽደፈኒ፡ በብረክየ፡ ወኅቡረ፡ ሮዱኒ።
They have gaped on me with their mouth. They have struck me on the cheek reproachfully. They gather themselves together against me.
16:11
יַסְגִּירֵ֣נִי אֵ֭ל אֶ֣ל עֲוִ֑יל וְעַל־יְדֵ֖י רְשָׁעִ֣ים יִרְטֵֽנִי׃
παρέδωκεν γάρ με ὁ κύριος εἰς χεῖρας ἀδίκου ἐπὶ δὲ ἀσεβέσιν ἔρριψέν με
Aperuerunt super me ora sua, et exprobrantes percusserunt maxillam meam : satiati sunt poenis meis.
—
God delivers me to the ungodly, and casts me into the hands of the wicked.
16:12
שָׁ֘לֵ֤ו הָיִ֨יתִי׀ וַֽיְפַרְפְּרֵ֗נִי וְאָחַ֣ז בְּ֭עׇרְפִּי וַֽיְפַצְפְּצֵ֑נִי וַיְקִימֵ֥נִי ל֝֗וֹ לְמַטָּרָֽה׃
εἰρηνεύοντα διεσκέδασέν με λαβών με τῆς κόμης διέτιλεν κατέστησέν με ὥσπερ σκοπόν
Conclusit me Deus apud iniquum, et manibus impiorum me tradidit.
መጠወኒ፡ ውስተ፡ እደ፡ ዘይትሔዘበኒ፡ ወገደፈኒ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ለጸዋጋን።
I was at ease, and he broke me apart. Yes, he has taken me by the neck, and dashed me to pieces. He has also set me up for his target.
16:13
יָ֘סֹ֤בּוּ עָלַ֨י׀ רַבָּ֗יו יְפַלַּ֣ח כִּ֭לְיוֹתַי וְלֹ֣א יַחְמֹ֑ל יִשְׁפֹּ֥ךְ לָ֝אָ֗רֶץ מְרֵרָתִֽי׃
ἐκύκλωσάν με λόγχαις βάλλοντες εἰς νεφρούς μου οὐ φειδόμενοι ἐξέχεαν εἰς τὴν γῆν τὴν χολήν μου
Ego ille quondam opulentus, repente contritus sum : tenuit cervicem meam, confregit me, et posuit me sibi quasi in signum.
ወእንዘ፡ ዳህነ፡ እነብር፡ ገደፈኒ፡ ወመሐኒ፡ በሥዕርተ፡ ድማኅየ፡ ወአቀመኒ፡ ከመ፡ መጠራ፡ ወከመ፡ ቃፍ፡ ወአስተሐየጸኒ፡ ከመ፡ ሰብእ፡ ዓይን።
His archers surround me. He splits my kidneys apart, and does not spare. He pours out my bile on the ground.
16:14
יִפְרְצֵ֣נִי פֶ֭רֶץ עַל־פְּנֵי־פָ֑רֶץ יָרֻ֖ץ עָלַ֣י כְּגִבּֽוֹר׃
κατέβαλόν με πτῶμα ἐπὶ πτώματι ἔδραμον πρός με δυνάμενοι
Circumdedit me lanceis suis ; convulneravit lumbos meos : non pepercit, et effudit in terra viscera mea.
እስመ፡ በኵያንው፡ ወግኡኒ፡ ወረገዙኒ፡ ኵልያትየ፡ ወኢመሐሩኒ፡ ወተክዕወት፡ ውስተ፡ ምድር፡ ሐሞትየ።
He breaks me with breach on breach. He runs at me like a giant.
16:15
שַׂ֣ק תָּ֭פַרְתִּי עֲלֵ֣י גִלְדִּ֑י וְעֹלַ֖לְתִּי בֶעָפָ֣ר קַרְנִֽי׃
σάκκον ἔρραψα ἐπὶ βύρσης μου τὸ δὲ σθένος μου ἐν γῇ ἐσβέσθη
Concidit me vulnere super vulnus : irruit in me quasi gigas.
ወበጽሐኒ፡ ድቀት፡ በዲበ፡ ድቀት፡ ወሮፁ፡ ላዕሌየ፡ ኃያላን።
I have sewed sackcloth on my skin, and have thrust my horn in the dust.
16:16
פָּנַ֣י (חמרמרה) [חֳ֭מַרְמְרוּ] מִנִּי־בֶ֑כִי וְעַ֖ל עַפְעַפַּ֣י צַלְמָֽוֶת׃
ἡ γαστήρ μου συγκέκαυται ἀπὸ κλαυθμοῦ ἐπὶ δὲ βλεφάροις μου σκιά
Saccum consui super cutem meam, et operui cinere carnem meam.
ሠቀ፡ አስተጣበቁ፡ ላዕለ፡ ማእስየ፡ ወተሰልጠት፡ ሕማምየ፡ ውስተ፡ መሬት።
My face is red with weeping. Deep darkness is on my eyelids,
16:17
עַ֭ל לֹא־חָמָ֣ס בְּכַפָּ֑י וּֽתְפִלָּתִ֥י זַכָּֽה׃
ἄδικον δὲ οὐδὲν ἦν ἐν χερσίν μου εὐχὴ δέ μου καθαρά
Facies mea intumuit a fletu, et palpebrae meae caligaverunt.
ትነድድ፡ ከርሥየ፡ በብካይ፡ ወውስተ፡ ቀራንብትየ፡ ጽላሎተ፡ ሞት፡ እሬኢ።
although there is no violence in my hands, and my prayer is pure.
16:18
אֶ֭רֶץ אַל־תְּכַסִּ֣י דָמִ֑י וְֽאַל־יְהִ֥י מָ֝ק֗וֹם לְזַעֲקָתִֽי׃
γῆ μὴ ἐπικαλύψῃς ἐφ’ αἵματι τῆς σαρκός μου μηδὲ εἴη τόπος τῇ κραυγῇ μου
Haec passus sum absque iniquitate manus meae, cum haberem mundas ad Deum preces.
ወአልቦ፡ ዓመፃ፡ ውስተ፡ እደውየ፡ ወንጹሕ፡ ጸሎትየ።
“Earth, don’t cover my blood. Let my cry have no place to rest.
16:19
גַּם־עַ֭תָּה הִנֵּה־בַשָּׁמַ֣יִם עֵדִ֑י וְ֝שָׂהֲדִ֗י בַּמְּרֹמִֽים׃
καὶ νῦν ἰδοὺ ἐν οὐρανοῖς ὁ μάρτυς μου ὁ δὲ συνίστωρ μου ἐν ὑψίστοις
Terra, ne operias sanguinem meum, neque inveniat in te locum latendi clamor meus :
መሬትኑ፡ ይከድነኒ፡ ሥጋየ፡ ወይትከዓው፡ ደምየ፡ ወኢይረክብኑ፡ ብሔረ፡ ኀበ፡ አእወዩ።
Even now, behold, my witness is in heaven. He who vouches for me is on high.
16:20
מְלִיצַ֥י רֵעָ֑י אֶל־אֱ֝ל֗וֹהַּ דָּלְפָ֥ה עֵינִֽי׃
ἀφίκοιτό μου ἡ δέησις πρὸς κύριον ἔναντι δὲ αὐτοῦ στάζοι μου ὁ ὀφθαλμός
ecce enim in caelo testis meus, et conscius meus in excelsis.
ወይእዜኒ፡ ናሁ፡ ሰማዕትየ፡ ውስተ፡ ሰማይ፡ ወየአምር፡ ሊተ፡ ዘውስተ፡ አርያም።
My friends scoff at me. My eyes pour out tears to God,
16:21
וְיוֹכַ֣ח לְגֶ֣בֶר עִם־אֱל֑וֹהַּ וּֽבֶן־אָדָ֥ם לְרֵעֵֽהוּ׃
εἴη δὲ ἔλεγχος ἀνδρὶ ἔναντι κυρίου καὶ υἱὸς ἀνθρώπου τῷ πλησίον αὐτοῦ
Verbosi amici mei : ad Deum stillat oculus meus :
ኃለፈት፡ ጸሎትየ፡ ኀበ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ወታንጸፈጽፍ፡ ዓይንየ፡ ቅድሜሁ።
that he would maintain the right of a man with God, of a son of man with his neighbor!
16:22
כִּֽי־שְׁנ֣וֹת מִסְפָּ֣ר יֶאֱתָ֑יוּ וְאֹ֖רַח לֹא־אָשׁ֣וּב אֶהֱלֹֽךְ׃
ἔτη δὲ ἀριθμητὰ ἥκασιν ὁδῷ δέ ᾗ οὐκ ἐπαναστραφήσομαι πορεύσομαι
atque utinam sic judicaretur vir cum Deo, quomodo judicatur filius hominis cum collega suo.
ወሶበሁ፡ ያስተዋቅሥዎ፡ ለሰብእ፡ ምስለ፡ እግዚአብሔር፡ ከመ፡ እጓለ፡ እመሕያው፡ ምስለ፡ ቢጹ፡ ይመጽኣኒ፡ ዓመታት፡ ኍሉዋት።
For when a few years have come, I will go the way of no return.
16:23——
Ecce enim breves anni transeunt, et semitam per quam non revertar ambulo.
ወአሐውር፡ ፍኖተ፡ ኀበ፡ ኢይገብእ።
For when a few years have come, I will go the way of no return.
