📖 This chapter exists in 3 other originals — side by side (Hebrew Old Testament, Vulgate, Ge'ez Bible)
ℹ️ This corpus has no verse-level morphological tagging. Lemmas come mainly from word-level tagging of other books in the same language (not from this verse), falling back to dictionary form-matching for the rest. Rare homographs can still be misread; verify against the original and a specialist lexicon where precision matters.
ℹ️ The Chinese and English alongside are this site's own translation, made directly from the original text on this page (not the CUV or the WEB, which follow the Masoretic Text and a different textual tradition).

16:1
Then Job answered and said:
I have heard many such things; you are all comforters who bring misery.
Is there any order to words of wind? Or what troubles you, that you answer?
I too could speak as you do, if your soul were in the place of mine; then I would assail you with words and shake my head at you.
May there be strength in my mouth, and I will not spare the movement of my lips.
For if I speak, my wound will not ache the less; and if I keep silent, how am I the less wounded?
But now he has made me worn out, foolish, decayed.
And you have laid hold of me; it became a testimony, and my falsehood rose up in me and answered me to my face.
He used anger and cast me down; he gnashed his teeth at me; the arrows of his raiders fell upon me.
With darts of his eyes he leapt upon me; he struck me sharply on the cheek; and with one accord they ran upon me.
For the Lord delivered me into the hands of an unjust man, and cast me upon the ungodly.
I was at peace, and he shattered me; he seized me by the hair and tore it out; he set me up as a target.
They surrounded me with spears, striking my kidneys without pity; they poured out my gall on the ground.
They cast me down, wound upon wound; the mighty ran at me.
I sewed sackcloth upon my hide, and my strength was quenched in the ground.
My belly is burned up with weeping, and on my eyelids is a shadow.
Yet there was no injustice in my hands, and my prayer was pure.
O earth, do not cover over the blood of my flesh, nor let there be a place for my cry.
And now behold, my witness is in the heavens, and he who vouches for me is in the highest places.
May my supplication come to the Lord, and may my eye drip tears before him.
Would that a man might plead his case before the Lord, and a son of man for his neighbour.
My numbered years have come, and I shall go by a way from which I will not return.
