But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him that a millstone were hung around his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea;

That one must decline even a deed or word permitted by Scripture, whenever others are built up thereby toward sin in the like manner,

1:666⧉ ⤴︎
Now concerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no God but one. For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many gods and many lords), yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things, and we for him;
論到祭偶像之物,我們曉得偶像在世上算不得甚麼,也知道神只有一位,再沒有別的神。雖然有稱為神的,或在天,或在地,(就如那許多的神、許多的主一樣,)然而我們只有一位神,就是父,萬物都本於他,我們也歸於他;
1:667⧉ ⤴︎
and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we through him.
1:668⧉ ⤴︎
But not all have this knowledge.
But some, being accustomed until now to the idol, eat it as a thing sacrificed to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.
But food does not commend us to God.
For neither if we eat are we the better;
因為我們吃,也不增加甚麼;

nor if we do not eat are we the worse.
But take heed lest this liberty of yours somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.
For if anyone sees you, who have knowledge, reclining at table in an idol's temple, will not his conscience, being weak, be emboldened to eat things sacrificed to idols? And the weak brother, for whom Christ died, perishes because of your knowledge. And thus, sinning against the brothers and wounding their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.
Do we not have the right to eat and drink? Do we not have the right to lead about a sister as a wife, as also the rest of the apostles, and the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas? Or is it only I and Barnabas who have no right to refrain from working? Who ever serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat of its fruit? Or who tends a flock and does not eat of the milk of the flock? And so forth.
1:676⧉ ⤴︎

What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take toll or tribute? From their own sons, or from others? Peter said to him,

take that, and give it to them for me and for you.

That regarding the Lord's will, even if some are offended, one must show unyielding boldness

因為外面作猶太人的,不是真猶太人;外面肉身的割禮,也不是真割禮;
1:788⧉ ⤴︎
but he is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, not the letter; his praise is not from men, but from God.
1:789⧉ ⤴︎

in whom also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ.

For I say to you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
If anyone else thinks to have confidence in the flesh, I have more: circumcised the eighth day, of the race of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee; as to zeal, persecuting the church; as to the righteousness that is in the law, found blameless.

Indeed I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, so that I may gain Christ, and be found in him, not having my own righteousness which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God.

Does not each of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or his donkey from the manger, and lead it away to water it? And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan bound, behold, these eighteen years, to have been loosed from this bond on the day of the Sabbath?
