1:1
De obedientia. Primo omnium docemur Deum diligere ex toto corde et ex tota mente ( Matth. XII, 37) et ex totis viribus, et proximum tanquam nosmetipsos. Deinde ad primum verbum senioris omnes ad obediendum audientes surgere oportet: quia obedientia Deo exhi- betur, dicente Domino nostro Jesu Christo: Qui vos audit, me audit (Luc. X, 28). Si quis igitur verbum audiens non statim surrexe- rit inobediens judicandus est. Qui autem contradixe- rit, contumaciae crimen incurrit: et ideo non solum inobedientiae reus est, sed etiam contradictionis aditum aliis aperiens, multorum destructor aestiman- dus est. Si quis vero murmuraverit, et ipse tanquam non ex voto obediens, inobediens putandus est;
On obedience. First of all, we are taught to love God with our whole heart and with our whole mind (Matt. 22:37) and with all our strength, and our neighbor as ourselves. Then, at the first word of the senior, all who hear must rise up to obey: for obedience is shown to God, since our Lord Jesus Christ says, 'He who hears you hears me' (Luke 10:16). If, therefore, anyone hearing the word does not rise at once, he is to be judged disobedient. But whoever contradicts incurs the charge of insolence; and therefore he is not only guilty of disobedience, but, opening to others a door of contradiction, he is to be reckoned the destroyer of many. But if anyone murmurs, he too, as one not obeying willingly, is to be deemed disobedient;
論順服。首先,我們受教要全心、全意(太二二37)並竭盡全力愛上帝,又要愛鄰舍如同自己。其次,一聽到長者的第一句話,凡聽見的人都當起身順服:因為順服乃是獻給上帝的,正如我們的主耶穌基督所說:「聽從你們的,就是聽從我」(路十16)。所以,若有人聽見命令而不立即起身,就當被判為悖逆。但凡頂撞的,便招致傲慢之罪;因此他不僅是悖逆有罪,更因向他人敞開頂撞之門,當被算為許多人的敗壞者。但若有人發怨言,他既不是出於心願而順服,也當被視為悖逆;
1:2
idcirco opus ejus abjiciatur, donec illius bona voluntas cognoscatur. II, 5-8).
therefore let his work be rejected until his good will be made known. But to what limit is obedience defined? To death, assuredly, it has been commanded; for Christ obeyed the Father unto death for us, which he himself impresses upon us through the Apostle, saying: 'Have this mind in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: who, though he was in the form of God, did not count it robbery to be equal with God, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, and was found in fashion as a man. He humbled himself, becoming obedient to the Father unto death, even the death of the cross' (Phil. 2:5-8).
XII, 25).
Therefore nothing is to be refused by those who obey, the true disciples of Christ, however hard and arduous it may be, but it is to be received with fervor and gladness. For if obedience be not such, it will not be acceptable to God, who says: 'And he who does not take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me' (Luke 14:27). And therefore he says concerning the worthy disciple: 'That where I am, there shall my minister also be with me' (John 12:26).
