📖 This chapter exists in 3 other originals — side by side (Hebrew Old Testament, Vulgate, Ge'ez Bible)
ℹ️ This corpus has no verse-level morphological tagging. Lemmas come mainly from word-level tagging of other books in the same language (not from this verse), falling back to dictionary form-matching for the rest. Rare homographs can still be misread; verify against the original and a specialist lexicon where precision matters.
ℹ️ The Chinese and English alongside are this site's own translation, made directly from the original text on this page (not the CUV or the WEB, which follow the Masoretic Text and a different textual tradition).

"Both yesterday and the day before, when Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them in. And the Lord said to you: You shall shepherd my people Israel, and you shall be leader over Israel."
And all the elders of Israel come to the king at Chebron, and King David made a covenant with them in Chebron before the Lord, and they anoint David as king over all Israel.
And David and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusite who was inhabiting the land. And it was said to David: You shall not enter here, for the blind and the lame withstood him, saying: David shall not enter here.
And David said on that day: Everyone who strikes a Jebusite, let him lay hold of him with a dagger — both the lame and the blind and those who hate David's soul. Therefore they will say: The blind and the lame shall not enter into the house of the Lord.
And the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over Israel, and all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard, and he went down to the stronghold.
And David inquired through the Lord, saying: Shall I go up against the Philistines, and will you deliver them into my hands? And the Lord said to David: Go up, for in delivering I will deliver the Philistines into your hands.
And David came from the Upper Breaches and cut down the Philistines there. And David said: The Lord has broken through my enemies the Philistines before me, as waters are broken through. Therefore the name of that place was called Upper Breaches.
And David inquired through the Lord, and the Lord said: You shall not go up to meet them; turn away from them, and you shall come upon them near the Place of Weeping.
And it shall be, when you hear the sound of the closing in of the grove of the Place of Weeping, then you shall go down against them, for then the Lord will go out before you to cut them down in the battle of the Philistines.
