1-40:1
The sound mind — one that is free from danger, reverent, and a lover of truth — will eagerly study whatever things God has placed within the power of men and subjected to our knowledge, and will make progress in them, rendering the learning easy for itself through daily exercise. These are the things that fall under our sight, and whatever has been plainly, unambiguously, and in express words declared in the divine Scriptures.
1-40:3
Now if, even among the things of creation, some are reserved to God while others have come within our knowledge, what difficulty is it if, even among the things sought out in the Scriptures — all the Scriptures being spiritual — some we resolve by the grace of God, while others are reserved to God, and that not only in this present age but also in the age to come; so that God may always be teaching, and man may forever be learning from God?
1-40:4
If, then, in the manner we have described, we refer some of the questions to God, we shall both preserve our faith and remain free from danger; and every Scripture given to us by God will be found to be in agreement with us, and the parables will harmonize with the things plainly spoken, and the things clearly spoken will explain the parables; and through the many voices of the words one harmonious melody will be perceived within us. God is superior to nature; and in him is the willing, because he is good; and the being able, because he is powerful; and the accomplishing, because he is bountiful.
