Then shall the righteous man stand in great boldness Before the face of those who afflicted him, And those who make his labors of no account.
5:2
Videntes turbabuntur timore horribili, et mirabuntur in subitatione insperatæ salutis ;
When they see it, they will be troubled with terrible fear, And will be amazed at the marvel of God’s salvation.
5:3
dicentes intra se, pœnitentiam agentes, et præ angustia spiritus gementes : Hi sunt quos habuimus aliquando in derisum, et in similitudinem improperii.
They will say within themselves repenting, And for distress of spirit will they groan, This was he whom aforetime we had in derision, And made a parable of reproach:
5:4
Nos insensati, vitam illorum æstimabamus insaniam, et finem illorum sine honore ;
這就是我們從前所譏笑、當作羞辱笑柄的人。我們這些愚昧人竟把他的生活看為瘋狂,把他的結局看為羞辱;
We fools accounted his life madness, And his end without honor:
5:5
How was he counted among sons of God? And how is his lot among saints?
5:6
Verily we went astray from the way of truth, And the light of righteousness shined not for us, And the sun rose not for us.
5:7
We took our fill of the paths of lawlessness and destruction, And we journeyed through trackless deserts, But the way of the Lord we knew not.
5:8
Quid nobis profuit superbia ? aut divitiarum jactantia quid contulit nobis ?
What did our arrogancy profit us? And what good have riches and vaunting brought us?
5:9
Transierunt omnia illa tamquam umbra, et tamquam nuntius percurrens,
那一切都如影兒過去,又如疾馳而過的消息;
Those things all passed away as a shadow, And as a message that runs by:
5:10
et tamquam navis quæ pertransit fluctuantem aquam, cujus cum præterierit non est vestigium invenire, neque semitam carinæ illius in fluctibus ;
如同船隻駛過翻騰的水面,過去之後便尋不見痕跡,也找不到船底在波浪中的航道;
As a ship passing through the billowy water, Whereof, when it is gone by, there is no trace to be found, Neither pathway of its keel in the billows:
5:11
aut tamquam avis quæ transvolat in aëre, cujus nullum invenitur argumentum itineris, sed tantum sonitus alarum verberans levem ventum, et scindens per vim itineris aërem : commotis alis transvolavit, et post hoc nullum signum invenitur itineris illius ;
又如飛鳥穿過空中,尋不見牠飛行的蹤跡,輕風被翅膀振動拍打、被迅速擺動的雙翼強力劈開而穿過,此後便尋不見牠經過的痕跡;
Or as when a bird flieth through the air, No token of her passage is found, But the light wind, lashed with the stroke of her pinions, And tore asunder with the violent rush of the moving wings, is passed through, And afterwards no sign of her coming is found therein:
5:12
Or as when an arrow is shot at a mark, The air disparted closeth up again immediately, So that men know not where it passed through:
5:13
So we also, as soon as we were born, ceased to be; And of virtue we had no sign to show, But in our wickedness we were utterly consumed.
5:14
Talia dixerunt in inferno hi qui peccaverunt :
Because the hope of the ungodly man is as chaff carried by the wind, And as foam vanishing before a tempest; And is scattered as smoke is scattered by the wind, And passes by as the remembrance of a guest that waits but a day.
5:15
But the righteous live forever, And in the Lord is their reward, And the care for them with the Most High.
5:16
Therefore will they receive the crown of royal dignity And the diadem of beauty from the Lord’s hand; Because with his right hand will he cover them, And with his arm will he shield them.
5:17
Ideo accipient regnum decoris, et diadema speciei de manu Domini : quoniam dextera sua teget eos, et brachio sancto suo defendet illos.
He will take his jealousy as complete armor, And will make the whole creation his weapons for vengeance on his enemies:
5:18
祂要穿上公義為護心鏡,戴上不偽的審判為頭盔;
He will put on righteousness as a breastplate, And will array himself with judgement unfeigned as with a helmet;
5:19
Induet pro thorace justitiam, et accipiet pro galea judicium certum ;
He will take holiness as an invincible shield,
5:20
sumet scutum inexpugnabile æquitatem.
And he will sharpen stern wrath for a sword: And the world will go forth with him to fight against his insensate foes.
5:21
Shafts of lightning will fly with true aim, And from the clouds, as from a well drawn bow, will they leap to the mark.
5:22
從忿怒的彈石器中,必拋出滿載盛怒的冰雹;海水必向他們發怒,江河也必猛烈地淹沒他們;
And as from an engine of war will be hurled hailstones full of wrath; The water of the sea will be angered against them, And rivers will sternly overwhelm them;
5:23
Et a petrosa ira plenæ mittentur grandines ; excandescet in illos aqua maris, et flumina concurrent duriter.
A mighty blast will encounter them, And as a tempest will it winnow them away: And so will lawlessness make all the land desolate, And their evil-doing will overturn the thrones of princes.
