16:1
Ταῦτα λελάληκα ὑμῖν ἵνα μὴ σκανδαλισθῆτε.
Haec locutus sum vobis, ut non scandalizemini.
ዘንተ ነገርኩክሙ ከመ ኢትትዐቀፉ።
“I have said these things to you so that you wouldn’t be caused to stumble.
16:2
ἀποσυναγώγους ποιήσουσιν ὑμᾶς· ἀλλ’ ἔρχεται ὥρα ἵνα πᾶς ὁ ἀποκτείνας ὑμᾶς δόξῃ λατρείαν προσφέρειν τῷ θεῷ.
Absque synagogis facient vos : sed venit hora, ut omnis qui interficit vos arbitretur obsequium se praestare Deo.
እስመ እምኵራባቲሆሙ ያወፅኡክሙ ወባሕቱ ትመጽእ ሰዓት ከመ ኵሉ ዘይቀትለክሙ ይመስሎ ከመ ዘመሥዋዕተ ያበውእ ለእግዚአብሔር።
They will put you out of the synagogues. Yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers service to God.
16:3
καὶ ταῦτα ποιήσουσιν ὅτι οὐκ ἔγνωσαν τὸν πατέρα οὐδὲ ἐμέ.
Et haec facient vobis, quia non noverunt Patrem, neque me.
ወዘንተኒ ዘይገብሩ ላዕሌክሙ እስመ ኢየአምርዎ ለአብ ወኢኪያየ።
They will do these things because they have not known the Father nor me.
16:4
ἀλλὰ ταῦτα λελάληκα ὑμῖν ἵνα ὅταν ἔλθῃ ἡ ὥρα μνημονεύητε αὐτῶν, ὅτι ἐγὼ εἶπον ὑμῖν. ταῦτα δὲ ὑμῖν ἐξ ἀρχῆς οὐκ εἶπον, ὅτι μεθ’ ὑμῶν ἤμην.
Sed haec locutus sum vobis, ut cum venerit hora eorum, reminiscamini quia ego dixi vobis.
ወባሕቱ ዘንተ ነገርኩክሙ ከመ ትዘከርዎ አመ በጽሐ ጊዜሁ ከመ አነ እቤለክሙ ወቀዲሙሰ ኢነገርኩክሙ ዘንተ እስመ ሀሎኩ ምስሌክሙ።
But I have told you these things so that when the time comes, you may remember that I told you about them. I didn’t tell you these things from the beginning, because I was with you.
16:5
νῦν δὲ ὑπάγω πρὸς τὸν πέμψαντά με, καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐξ ὑμῶν ἐρωτᾷ με· ποῦ ὑπάγεις;
Haec autem vobis ab initio non dixi, quia vobiscum eram. Et nunc vado ad eum qui misit me ; et nemo ex vobis interrogat me : Quo vadis ?
ወይእዜሰ ባሕቱ አሐውር ኀበ አብ ዘፈነወኒ ወኢአሐዱሂ እምኔክሙ ኢትብሉኒ አይቴ ተሐውር።
But now I am going to him who sent me, and none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’
16:6
ἀλλ’ ὅτι ταῦτα λελάληκα ὑμῖν ἡ λύπη πεπλήρωκεν ὑμῶν τὴν καρδίαν.
sed quia haec locutus sum vobis, tristitia implevit cor vestrum.
ወባሕቱ እስመ ዘንተ ነገርኩክሙ ኀዘን መልአ ውስተ ልብክሙ።
But because I have told you these things, sorrow has filled your heart.
16:7
ἀλλ’ ἐγὼ τὴν ἀλήθειαν λέγω ὑμῖν, συμφέρει ὑμῖν ἵνα ἐγὼ ἀπέλθω. ἐὰν γὰρ μὴ ἀπέλθω, ὁ παράκλητος οὐκ ἐλεύσεται πρὸς ὑμᾶς· ἐὰν δὲ πορευθῶ, πέμψω αὐτὸν πρὸς ὑμᾶς.
Sed ego veritatem dico vobis : expedit vobis ut ego vadam : si enim non abiero, Paraclitus non veniet ad vos ; si autem abiero, mittam eum ad vos.
ወአንሰ አማን ህልወ እብለክሙ ይኄይሰክሙ እሑር አነ ኀበ አብ እስመ እመ ኢሖርኩ አነ ኢይመጽእ ጰራቅሊጦስ ኀቤክሙ ወእመሰ ሖርኩ አነ እፌንዎ ለክሙ።
Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I don’t go away, the Counselor won’t come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.
16:8
καὶ ἐλθὼν ἐκεῖνος ἐλέγξει τὸν κόσμον περὶ ἁμαρτίας καὶ περὶ δικαιοσύνης καὶ περὶ κρίσεως·
Et cum venerit ille, arguet mundum de peccato, et de justitia, et de judicio.
ወመጺኦ ውእቱ ይዛለፎ ለዓለም በእንተ ኀጢአት ወበእንተ ጽድቅ ወበእንተ ኵነኔ።
When he has come, he will convict the world about sin, about righteousness, and about judgment;
16:9
περὶ ἁμαρτίας μέν, ὅτι οὐ πιστεύουσιν εἰς ἐμέ·
De peccato quidem, quia non crediderunt in me.
በእንተ ኀጢአትሰ እስመ ኢአምኑ ብየ።
about sin, because they don’t believe in me;
16:10
περὶ δικαιοσύνης δέ, ὅτι πρὸς τὸν πατέρα ὑπάγω καὶ οὐκέτι θεωρεῖτέ με·
De justitia vero, quia ad Patrem vado, et jam non videbitis me.
ወበእንተ ጽድቅኒ እስመ አነ አሐውር ኀበ አብ ወኢትሬእዩኒ እንከ።
about righteousness, because I am going to my Father, and you won’t see me any more;
16:11
περὶ δὲ κρίσεως, ὅτι ὁ ἄρχων τοῦ κόσμου τούτου κέκριται.
De judicio autem, quia princeps hujus mundi jam judicatus est.
ወበእንተሰ ኵነኔ እስመ ይትኴነን መልአኩ ለዝንቱ ዓለም።
about judgment, because the prince of this world has been judged.
16:12
ἔτι πολλὰ ἔχω ὑμῖν λέγειν, ἀλλ’ οὐ δύνασθε βαστάζειν ἄρτι·
Adhuc multa habeo vobis dicere, sed non potestis portare modo.
ወብየ ብዙኅ ነገር ዘእነግረክሙ ወባሕቱ ኢትክሉ ጸዊሮቶ ይእዜ።
“I still have many things to tell you, but you can’t bear them now.
16:13
ὅταν δὲ ἔλθῃ ἐκεῖνος, τὸ πνεῦμα τῆς ἀληθείας, ὁδηγήσει ὑμᾶς ἐν τῇ ἀληθείᾳ πάσῃ· οὐ γὰρ λαλήσει ἀφ’ ἑαυτοῦ, ἀλλ’ ὅσα ἀκούει λαλήσει, καὶ τὰ ἐρχόμενα ἀναγγελεῖ ὑμῖν.
Cum autem venerit ille Spiritus veritatis, docebit vos omnem veritatem : non enim loquetur a semetipso, sed quaecumque audiet loquetur, et quae ventura sunt annuntiabit vobis.
ወመጺኦ ውእቱ መንፈሰ ጽድቅ ይመርሐክሙ ኀበ ኵሉ ጽድቅ እስመ ኢይነግር ዘእምኀቤሁ ወዘሰምዐ ዳእሙ ይነግር ወዘይመጽእሂ ይነግረክሙ።
However, when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth, for he will not speak from himself; but whatever he hears, he will speak. He will declare to you things that are coming.
16:14
ἐκεῖνος ἐμὲ δοξάσει, ὅτι ἐκ τοῦ ἐμοῦ λήμψεται καὶ ἀναγγελεῖ ὑμῖν.
Ille me clarificabit, quia de meo accipiet, et annuntiabit vobis.
ወኪያየ ይሴብሕ ውእቱ እስመ እምዚኣየ ይነሥእ ወይነግረክሙ ኵሎ።
He will glorify me, for he will take from what is mine and will declare it to you.
16:15
πάντα ὅσα ἔχει ὁ πατὴρ ἐμά ἐστιν· διὰ τοῦτο εἶπον ὅτι ἐκ τοῦ ἐμοῦ λαμβάνει καὶ ἀναγγελεῖ ὑμῖν.
Omnia quaecumque habet Pater, mea sunt. Propterea dixi : quia de meo accipiet, et annuntiabit vobis.
እስመ ኵሉ ዘቦ ለአቡየ ዚኣየ ውእቱ ወበእንተ ዝንቱ እብለክሙ እምዚኣየ ይነሥእ ወይነግረክሙ።
All things that the Father has are mine; therefore I said that he takes of mine and will declare it to you.
16:16
μικρὸν καὶ οὐκέτι θεωρεῖτέ με, καὶ πάλιν μικρὸν καὶ ὄψεσθέ με.
Modicum, et jam non videbitis me ; et iterum modicum, et videbitis me : quia vado ad Patrem.
ዓዲ ኅዳጠ ኢትሬእዩኒ ወካዕበ ኅዳጠ ትሬእዩኒ እስመ አሐውር ኀበ አብ።
“A little while, and you will not see me. Again a little while, and you will see me.”
16:17
Εἶπον οὖν ἐκ τῶν μαθητῶν αὐτοῦ πρὸς ἀλλήλους· τί ἐστιν τοῦτο ὃ λέγει ἡμῖν· μικρὸν καὶ οὐ θεωρεῖτέ με, καὶ πάλιν μικρὸν καὶ ὄψεσθέ με; καί ὅτι ὑπάγω πρὸς τὸν πατέρα;
Dixerunt ergo ex discipulis ejus ad invicem : Quid est hoc quod dicit nobis : Modicum, et non videbitis me ; et iterum modicum, et videbitis me, et quia vado ad Patrem ?
ወተባሀሉ አርዳኢሁ በበይናቲሆሙ ምንትኑ ዝንቱ ዘይብለነ ዓዲ ኅዳጠ ኢትሬእዩኒ ወካዕበ ኅዳጠ ትሬእዩኒ እስመ አሐውር ኀበ አብ።
Some of his disciples therefore said to one another, “What is this that he says to us, ‘A little while, and you won’t see me, and again a little while, and you will see me;’ and, ‘Because I go to the Father’?”
16:18
ἔλεγον οὖν· τοῦτο τί ἐστιν ὃ λέγει, τὸ μικρόν; οὐκ οἴδαμεν τί λαλεῖ.
Dicebant ergo : Quid est hoc quod dicit : Modicum ? nescimus quid loquitur.
ወይቤሉ ምንትኑ ዝንቱ ዘይብለነ ኅዳጠ ኢነአምር ዘይትናገር ቦቱ።
They said therefore, “What is this that he says, ‘A little while’? We don’t know what he is saying.”
16:19
ἔγνω Ἰησοῦς ὅτι ἤθελον αὐτὸν ἐρωτᾶν, καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· περὶ τούτου ζητεῖτε μετ’ ἀλλήλων ὅτι εἶπον, μικρὸν καὶ οὐ θεωρεῖτέ με, καὶ πάλιν μικρὸν καὶ ὄψεσθέ με;
Cognovit autem Jesus, quia volebant eum interrogare, et dixit eis : De hoc quaeritis inter vos quia dixi : Modicum, et non videbitis me ; et iterum modicum, et videbitis me.
ወአእመሮሙ እግዚእ ኢየሱስ ከመ ይፈቅዱ ይሰአልዎ ወይቤሎሙ በእንተ ዝንቱኑ ትትኃሠሡ በበይናቲክሙ እስመ እቤለክሙ ዓዲ ኅዳጠ ኢትሬእዩኒ ወካዕበ ኅዳጠ ትሬእዩኒ።
Therefore Jesus perceived that they wanted to ask him, and he said to them, “Do you inquire among yourselves concerning this, that I said, ‘A little while, and you won’t see me, and again a little while, and you will see me’?
16:20
ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι κλαύσετε καὶ θρηνήσετε ὑμεῖς, ὁ δὲ κόσμος χαρήσεται· ὑμεῖς λυπηθήσεσθε, ἀλλ’ ἡ λύπη ὑμῶν εἰς χαρὰν γενήσεται.
Amen, amen dico vobis : quia plorabitis, et flebitis vos, mundus autem gaudebit ; vos autem contristabimini, sed tristitia vestra vertetur in gaudium.
አማን አማን እብለክሙ ከመ ትበክዩ ወትላሕዉ አንትሙ ወዓለምሰ ይትፌሣሕ ወአንትሙሰ ተኀዝኑ አላ ኀዘንክሙ ፍሥሓ ይከውነክሙ።
Most certainly I tell you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.
16:21
ἡ γυνὴ ὅταν τίκτῃ λύπην ἔχει, ὅτι ἦλθεν ἡ ὥρα αὐτῆς· ὅταν δὲ γεννήσῃ τὸ παιδίον, οὐκέτι μνημονεύει τῆς θλίψεως διὰ τὴν χαρὰν ὅτι ἐγεννήθη ἄνθρωπος εἰς τὸν κόσμον.
Mulier cum parit, tristitiam habet, quia venit hora ejus ; cum autem pepererit puerum, jam non meminit pressurae propter gaudium, quia natus est homo in mundum.
በከመ ብእሲት ትቴክዝ ሶበ አልጸቀት ትለድ እስመ በጽሐ ጊዜሃ ወእምከመ ወለደት ዕጓላ ኢትዜከሮ እንከ ለሕማማ በእንተ ፍሥሓሃ እስመ ወለደት ብእሴ ውስተ ዓለም።
A woman, when she gives birth, has sorrow because her time has come. But when she has delivered the child, she doesn’t remember the anguish any more, for the joy that a human being is born into the world.
16:22
καὶ ὑμεῖς οὖν νῦν μὲν λύπην ἔχετε· πάλιν δὲ ὄψομαι ὑμᾶς, καὶ χαρήσεται ὑμῶν ἡ καρδία, καὶ τὴν χαρὰν ὑμῶν οὐδεὶς αἴρει ἀφ’ ὑμῶν.
Et vos igitur nunc quidem tristitiam habetis, iterum autem videbo vos, et gaudebit cor vestrum : et gaudium vestrum nemo tollet a vobis.
ወከማሁ አንትሙኒ ትቴክዙ ይእዜ ወባሕቱ ካዕበ እሬእየክሙ ወይትፌሥሐክሙ ልብክሙ ወፍሥሓክሙኒ አልቦ ዘየሀይደክሙ።
Therefore you now have sorrow, but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.
16:23
καὶ ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐμὲ οὐκ ἐρωτήσετε οὐδέν. ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν, ἄν τι αἰτήσητε τὸν πατέρα, δώσει ὑμῖν ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί μου.
Et in illo die me non rogabitis quidquam. Amen, amen dico vobis : si quid petieritis Patrem in nomine meo, dabit vobis.
ወይእተ አሚረ አልቦ ዘትስእሉኒ ኪያየ ወኢምንተኒ አማን አማን እብለክሙ ከመ እመ ሰአልክምዎ ለአብ በስምየ ኵሎ ይሁበክሙ።
“In that day you will ask me no questions. Most certainly I tell you, whatever you may ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you.
16:24
ἕως ἄρτι οὐκ ᾐτήσατε οὐδὲν ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί μου· αἰτεῖτε καὶ λήμψεσθε, ἵνα ἡ χαρὰ ὑμῶν ᾖ πεπληρωμένη.
Usque modo non petistis quidquam in nomine meo : petite, et accipietis, ut gaudium vestrum sit plenum.
ወእስከ ይእዜሰ ኢሰአልክምዎ ወኢምንተኒ በስምየ ሰአሉ ወትነሥኡ ከመ ፍጹመ ይኩን ፍሥሓክሙ፥
Until now, you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be made full.
16:25
Ταῦτα ἐν παροιμίαις λελάληκα ὑμῖν· ἔρχεται ὥρα ὅτε οὐκέτι ἐν παροιμίαις λαλήσω ὑμῖν, ἀλλὰ παρρησίᾳ περὶ τοῦ πατρὸς ἀπαγγελῶ ὑμῖν.
Haec in proverbiis locutus sum vobis. Venit hora cum jam non in proverbiis loquar vobis, sed palam de Patre annuntiabo vobis :
ወይእዜሰ በምሳሌ ነገርኩክሙ ወባሕቱ ይበጽሕ ጊዜሁ አመ ኢይነግረክሙ በምሳሌ አላ አየድዐክሙ ክሡተ በእንተ አብ።
“I have spoken these things to you in figures of speech. But the time is coming when I will no more speak to you in figures of speech, but will tell you plainly about the Father.
16:26
ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί μου αἰτήσεσθε, καὶ οὐ λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι ἐγὼ ἐρωτήσω τὸν πατέρα περὶ ὑμῶν·
in illo die in nomine meo petetis : et non dico vobis quia ego rogabo Patrem de vobis :
ወይእተ አሚረ ትስእሉ በስምየ ወኢይብለክሙ ከመ አነ ዘእስእሎ ለአብ በእንቲኣክሙ።
In that day you will ask in my name; and I don’t say to you that I will pray to the Father for you,
16:27
αὐτὸς γὰρ ὁ πατὴρ φιλεῖ ὑμᾶς, ὅτι ὑμεῖς ἐμὲ πεφιλήκατε καὶ πεπιστεύκατε ὅτι ἐγὼ παρὰ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐξῆλθον.
ipse enim Pater amat vos, quia vos me amastis, et credidistis, quia ego a Deo exivi.
እስመ ለሊሁ አብ ያፈቅረክሙ እስመ አንትሙ አፍቀርክሙኒ ወአመንክሙኒ ከመ እምኀበ እግዚአብሔር ወፃእኩ።
for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came from God.
16:28
ἐξῆλθον ἐκ τοῦ πατρὸς καὶ ἐλήλυθα εἰς τὸν κόσμον· πάλιν ἀφίημι τὸν κόσμον καὶ πορεύομαι πρὸς τὸν πατέρα.
Exivi a Patre, et veni in mundum : iterum relinquo mundum, et vado ad Patrem.
ወመጻእኩ ውስተ ዓለም ወካዕበ አኀድጎ ለዓለም ወአሐውር ኀበ አብ።
I came from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I leave the world and go to the Father.”
16:29
Λέγουσιν οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ· ἴδε νῦν ἐν παρρησίᾳ λαλεῖς, καὶ παροιμίαν οὐδεμίαν λέγεις.
Dicunt ei discipuli ejus : Ecce nunc palam loqueris, et proverbium nullum dicis :
ወይቤልዎ አርዳኢሁ ይእዜሰ ገሃደ ተናገርከነ ወአልቦ ዘመሰልከ ወኢምንተኒ።
His disciples said to him, “Behold, now you are speaking plainly, and using no figures of speech.
16:30
νῦν οἴδαμεν ὅτι οἶδας πάντα καὶ οὐ χρείαν ἔχεις ἵνα τίς σε ἐρωτᾷ· ἐν τούτῳ πιστεύομεν ὅτι ἀπὸ θεοῦ ἐξῆλθες.
nunc scimus quia scis omnia, et non opus est tibi ut quis te interroget : in hoc credimus quia a Deo existi.
ወይእዜ አእመርነ ከመ ኵሎ ተአምር አንተ ወኢትፈቅድ ይንግርከ መኑሂ ወበዝንቱ አእመርነ ከመ እምኀበ እግዚአብሔር ወፃእከ።
Now we know that you know all things, and don’t need for anyone to question you. By this we believe that you came from God.”
16:31
ἀπεκρίθη αὐτοῖς Ἰησοῦς· ἄρτι πιστεύετε;
Respondit eis Jesus : Modo creditis ?
ወይቤሎሙ እግዚእ ኢየሱስ ይእዜሰኬ አእምሩ ወእመኑ።
Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe?
16:32
ἰδοὺ ἔρχεται ὥρα καὶ ἐλήλυθεν ἵνα σκορπισθῆτε ἕκαστος εἰς τὰ ἴδια κἀμὲ μόνον ἀφῆτε· καὶ οὐκ εἰμὶ μόνος, ὅτι ὁ πατὴρ μετ’ ἐμοῦ ἐστιν.
ecce venit hora, et jam venit, ut dispergamini unusquisque in propria, et me solum relinquatis : et non sum solus, quia Pater mecum est.
ናሁኬ ይበጽሕ ጊዜሁ ወበጺሖኒ ከመ ኵልክሙ ትዘረዉ ለለአሐዱ ውስተ መካኑ ወተኀድጉኒ ባሕቲትየ ወኢኮንኩ አነ ባሕቲትየ እስመ አብ ምስሌየ ውእቱ።
Behold, the time is coming, yes, and has now come, that you will be scattered, everyone to his own place, and you will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
16:33
ταῦτα λελάληκα ὑμῖν ἵνα ἐν ἐμοὶ εἰρήνην ἔχητε. ἐν τῷ κόσμῳ θλῖψιν ἔχετε· ἀλλὰ θαρσεῖτε, ἐγὼ νενίκηκα τὸν κόσμον.
Haec locutus sum vobis, ut in me pacem habeatis. In mundo pressuram habebitis : sed confidite, ego vici mundum.
ወዝንቱ ውእቱ ዘነገርኩክሙ ከመ በኀቤየ ሰላመ ትርከቡ ወበዓለምሰ ሀለወክሙ ሕማመ ትርከቡ ወባሕቱ ጽንዑ እስመ አነ ሞእክዎ ለዓለም።
I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble; but cheer up! I have overcome the world.”
