13:1 ⧉ ⤴︎ ὁ ἁπτόμενος πίσσης μολυνθήσεται καὶ ὁ κοινωνῶν ὑπερηφάνῳ ὁμοιωθήσεται αὐτῷ
Qui tetigerit picem inquinabitur ab ea : et qui communicaverit superbo induet superbiam .
ዘገሰሰ ፡ ፒሳ ፡ ይትአኀዝ ፡ ቦቱ ፡ ወዘተዐረኮ ፡ ለዕቡይ ፡ ይከውን ፡ ከማሁ ።
He that touches pitch will be defiled; And he that has fellowship with a proud man will become like to him.
13:2 ⧉ ⤴︎ βάρος ὑπὲρ σὲ μὴ ἄρῃς καὶ ἰσχυροτέρῳ σου καὶ πλουσιωτέρῳ μὴ κοινώνει τί κοινωνήσει χύτρα πρὸς λέβητα αὕτη προσκρούσει καὶ αὕτη συντριβήσεται
Pondus super se tollat qui honestiori se communicat , et ditiori te ne socius fueris .
ኢታንሥእ ፡ ክቡደ ፡ ወኢትሰከም ፡ ላዕሌከ ፡ ወኢትደምር ፡ ንዋየከ ፡ ምስለ ፡ ዘይኄይለከ ፡ ወዘይብዕለከ ፡ በአይቴ ፡ ይትዐረክ ፡ መቅጹት ፡ ምስለ ፡ ጽሕርት ፡ እስመ ፡ ለሊሃ ፡ ትጐድዕ ፡ ወለሊሃ ፡ ትኬልሕ ፡ ወለሊሃ ፡ ትሰብር ።
Take not up a burden above your strength; And have no fellowship with one that is mightier and richer than yourself. What fellowship shall the earthen pot have with the kettle? This will strike, and that will be dashed in pieces.
13:3 ⧉ ⤴︎ πλούσιος ἠδίκησεν καὶ αὐτὸς προσενεβριμήσατο πτωχὸς ἠδίκηται καὶ αὐτὸς προσδεηθήσεται
Quid communicabit cacabus ad ollam ? quando enim se colliserint , confringetur .
ወከማሁ ፡ ባዕልኒ ፡ ለሊሁ ፡ ይገፍዕ ፡ ወለሊሁ ፡ ይትመዐዕ ፡ ወነዳይሰ ፡ ለሊሁ ፡ ይትገፋዕ ፡ ወለሊሁ ፡ ይገኒ ።
The rich man does a wrong, and he threatens withal: The poor is wronged, and he will entreat withal.
13:4 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐὰν χρησιμεύσῃς ἐργᾶται ἐν σοί καὶ ἐὰν ὑστερήσῃς καταλείψει σε
Dives injuste egit , et fremet : pauper autem læsus tacebit .
ወለእመ ፡ ብከ ፡ ዘትበቊዖ ፡ ያቀርበከ ፡ ኀቤሁ ፡ ወእመሰ ፡ ተጸነስከ ፡ ኢይኔጽረከ ፡ እንከ ።
If you be profitable, he will make merchandise of you; And if you be in lack, he will forsake you.
13:5 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἐὰν ἔχῃς συμβιώσεταί σοι καὶ ἀποκενώσει σε καὶ αὐτὸς οὐ πονέσει
Si largitus fueris , assumet te : et si non habueris , derelinquet te .
ወለእመ ፡ ብከ ፡ የኀብር ፡ ምስሌከ ፡ ወየኀልቅ ፡ ለከ ፡ ዘዚኣከ ፡ ወዓዲ ፡ ኢያነክረከ ።
If you have substance, he will live with you; And he will make you bare, and will not be sorry.
13:6 ⧉ ⤴︎ χρείαν ἔσχηκέν σου καὶ ἀποπλανήσει σε καὶ προσγελάσεταί σοι καὶ δώσει σοι ἐλπίδα λαλήσει σοι καλὰ καὶ ἐρεῖ τίς ἡ χρεία σου
Si habes , convivet tecum , et evacuabit te : et ipse non dolebit super te .
ወለእመ ፡ ቦ ፡ ትካዝ ፡ ዘይቴክዝ ፡ ይየውሀከ ፡ ወብዙኀ ፡ ያስተሴፍወከ ፡ ወይሥሕቅ ፡ ለከ ፡ ወሠናየ ፡ ይትናገረከ ፡ ወምንተ ፡ ትፈቅድ ፡ ይብለከ ።
Hath he had need of you? then he will deceive you, And smile upon you, and give you hope: He will speak you fair, and say, What need you?
13:7 ⧉ ⤴︎ καὶ αἰσχυνεῖ σε ἐν τοῖς βρώμασιν αὐτοῦ ἕως οὗ ἀποκενώσῃ σε δὶς ἢ τρίς καὶ ἐπ’ ἐσχάτων καταμωκήσεταί σου μετὰ ταῦτα ὄψεταί σε καὶ καταλείψει σε καὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ κινήσει ἐπὶ σοί
Si necessarius illi fueris , supplantabit te , et subridens spem dabit , narrans tibi bona , et dicet : Quid opus est tibi ?
ወበመብልዑ ፡ የኀይጠከ ፡ ምዕረ ፡ ወካዕበ ፡ ወሥልሰ ፡ ያሰፍጠከ ፡ ወእም ፡ ዝ ፡ ድኅረ ፡ ይገብእ ፡ ኢይስማዕከ ፡ ወእመኒ ፡ ርእየከ ፡ ይሥሕቅ ፡ ላዕሌከ ፡ ወየሐውስ ፡ ርእሶ ፡ ለከ ።
And he will shame you by his meats, Until he have made you bare twice or thrice, And at the last he will laugh you to scorn: Afterward will he see you, and will forsake you, And shake his head at you.
13:8 ⧉ ⤴︎ πρόσεχε μὴ ἀποπλανηθῇς καὶ μὴ ταπεινωθῇς ἐν ἀφροσύνῃ σου
Et confundet te in cibis suis , donec te exinaniat bis et ter : et in novissimo deridebit te , et postea videns derelinquet te , et caput suum movebit ad te .
ተዐቀብ ፡ ኢያስሕትከ ፡ ወኢይየውህከ ፡ ወኢታብእ ፡ ሐዘነ ፡ ማእከለ ፡ ትፍሥሕትከ ።
Beware that you be not deceived, and brought low in your mirth.
13:9 ⧉ ⤴︎ προσκαλεσαμένου σε δυνάστου ὑποχωρῶν γίνου καὶ τόσῳ μᾶλλόν σε προσκαλέσεται
Humiliare Deo , et exspecta manus ejus .
ዘይቤለከ ፡ ዐቢይ ፡ ኦሆ ፡ በሎ ፡ ለግእዙ ፡ ወለእመኒ ፡ ጸውዐከ ፡ ኢትእበዮ ፡ ወፈድፋደ ፡ ያፈቅረከ ።
If a mighty man invite you, be retiring, And so much the more will he invite you.
13:10 ⧉ ⤴︎ μὴ ἔμπιπτε μὴ ἀπωσθῇς καὶ μὴ μακρὰν ἀφίστω ἵνα μὴ ἐπιλησθῇς
Attende ne seductus in stultitiam humilieris .
ኢትርሐቅኒ ፡ ወኢትስሐትኒ ፡ ወኢታጐንዲ ፡ ርሒቆቶ ፡ ከመ ፡ ኢይርሳዕከ ።
Press not upon him, lest you be thrust back; And stand not far off, lest you be forgotten.
13:11 ⧉ ⤴︎ μὴ ἔπεχε ἰσηγορεῖσθαι μετ’ αὐτοῦ καὶ μὴ πίστευε τοῖς πλείοσιν λόγοις αὐτοῦ ἐκ πολλῆς γὰρ λαλιᾶς πειράσει σε καὶ ὡς προσγελῶν ἐξετάσει σε
Noli esse humilis in sapientia tua , ne humiliatus in stultitiam seducaris .
ወኢታፈድፍድ ፡ ተናግሮ ፡ ምስሌሁ ፡ ወኢትትአመኖ ፡ በብዝኀ ፡ ነገሩ ፡ እስመ ፡ በብዝኀ ፡ ነገሩ ፡ ያሜክረከ ፡ ወከመ ፡ ዘይሥሕቅ ፡ ምስሌከ ፡ የሐትተከ ።
Affect not to speak with him as an equal, And believe not his many words: For with much talk will he try you, And in a smiling manner will search you out.
13:12 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀνελεήμων ὁ μὴ συντηρῶν λόγους καὶ οὐ μὴ φείσηται περὶ κακώσεως καὶ δεσμῶν
Advocatus a potentiore , discede : ex hoc enim magis te advocabit .
አልቦቱ ፡ ሣህል ፡ ለዘያወፅእ ፡ ምክረ ፡ ቢጹ ፡ እስመ ፡ ኢየሐዝኖ ፡ ተሞቅሖቱ ፡ ወመንሱቱ ።
He that keeps not to himself words spoken is unmerciful; And he will not spare to hurt and to bind.
13:13 ⧉ ⤴︎ συντήρησον καὶ πρόσεχε σφοδρῶς ὅτι μετὰ τῆς πτώσεώς σου περιπατεῖς
Ne improbus sis , ne impingaris : et ne longe sis ab eo , ne eas in oblivionem .
ዑቅ ፡ ወተዐቀብ ፡ በሕቁ ፡ እስመ ፡ ምስለ ፡ ቀታሊከ ፡ ተሐውር ።
Keep them to yourself, and take earnest heed, For you walk in peril of your falling.
13:14 ⧉ ⤴︎ — Ne retineas ex æquo loqui cum illo , nec credas multis verbis illius : ex multa enim loquela tentabit te , et subridens interrogabit te de absconditis tuis .
— Do not be eager to converse with him as an equal, nor trust his many words; for by much talking he will test you, and smiling he will question you about your secrets.
13:15 ⧉ ⤴︎ πᾶν ζῷον ἀγαπᾷ τὸ ὅμοιον αὐτῷ καὶ πᾶς ἄνθρωπος τὸν πλησίον αὐτοῦ
Immitis animus illius conservabit verba tua : et non parcet de malitia , et de vinculis .
ኵሉ ፡ እንስሳ ፡ ያፈቅር ፡ ዘመዶ ፡ ወኵሉ ፡ ሰብእ ፡ ያፈቅር ፡ ቢጾ ።
Every living creature loves his like, And every man loves his neighbor.
13:16 ⧉ ⤴︎ πᾶσα σὰρξ κατὰ γένος συνάγεται καὶ τῷ ὁμοίῳ αὐτοῦ προσκολληθήσεται ἀνήρ
Cave tibi , et attende diligenter auditui tuo , quoniam cum subversione tua ambulas :
ወኵሉ ፡ ነፍስ ፡ ይትጋባእ ፡ ምስለ ፡ ዘከማሁ ፡ ወሰብእኒ ፡ ምስለ ፡ ዘይዘውጎ ፡ ይተሉ ።
All flesh consorts according to kind, And a man will cleave to his like.
13:17 ⧉ ⤴︎ τί κοινωνήσει λύκος ἀμνῷ οὕτως ἁμαρτωλὸς πρὸς εὐσεβῆ
audiens vero illa , quasi in somnis vide , et vigilabis .
በአይቴ ፡ ይትዐረክ ፡ ተኵላ ፡ ምስለ ፡ በግዕ ፡ ከማሁ ፡ ኃጥእ ፡ ምስለ ፡ ጻድቅ ።
What fellowship shall the wolf have with the lamb? So is the sinner to the godly.
13:18 ⧉ ⤴︎ τίς εἰρήνη ὑαίνῃ πρὸς κύνα καὶ τίς εἰρήνη πλουσίῳ πρὸς πένητα
Omni vita tua dilige Deum , et invoca illum in salute tua .
ወመኑ ፡ ያስተሰናእዎሙ ፡ ለከለባት ፡ ምስለ ፡ አዝእብት ፡ ወመኑ ፡ ያስተዐርኮ ፡ ለነዳይ ፡ ምስለ ፡ ባዕል ።
What peace is there between the hyena and the dog? And what peace between the rich man and the poor?
13:19 ⧉ ⤴︎ κυνήγια λεόντων ὄναγροι ἐν ἐρήμῳ οὕτως νομαὶ πλουσίων πτωχοί
Omne animal diligit simile sibi , sic et omnis homo proximum sibi .
ከማሁ ፡ ይትዔገሎ ፡ ባዕል ፡ ለነዳይ ።
Wild asses are the prey of lions in the wilderness; So poor men are pasture for the rich.
13:20 ⧉ ⤴︎ βδέλυγμα ὑπερηφάνῳ ταπεινότης οὕτως βδέλυγμα πλουσίῳ πτωχός
Omnis caro ad similem sibi conjungetur , et omnis homo simili sui sociabitur .
ያስቆርሮ ፡ ዕቡይ ፡ ለዘያቴሕት ፡ ርእሶ ፡ ከማሁ ፡ ያስቆርሮ ፡ ባዕል ፡ ለነዳይ ።
Lowliness is an abomination to a proud man; So a poor man is an abomination to the rich.
13:21 ⧉ ⤴︎ πλούσιος σαλευόμενος στηρίζεται ὑπὸ φίλων ταπεινὸς δὲ πεσὼν προσαπωθεῖται ὑπὸ φίλων
Si communicabit lupus agno aliquando , sic peccator justo .
ባዕል ፡ ለእመ ፡ ተንተነ ፡ ይሰውቅዎ ፡ አዕርክቲሁ ፡ ወነዳይሰ ፡ ለእመኒ ፡ ወድቀ ፡ ይከይድዎ ፡ ቢጹ ።
A rich man when he is shaken is held up of his friends; But one of low degree being down is thrust away also by his friends.
13:22 ⧉ ⤴︎ πλουσίου σφαλέντος πολλοὶ ἀντιλήμπτορες ἐλάλησεν ἀπόρρητα καὶ ἐδικαίωσαν αὐτόν ταπεινὸς ἔσφαλεν καὶ προσεπετίμησαν αὐτῷ ἐφθέγξατο σύνεσιν καὶ οὐκ ἐδόθη αὐτῷ τόπος
Quæ communicatio sancto homini ad canem ? aut quæ pars diviti ad pauperem ?
ባዕል ፡ ለእመ ፡ ድኅፀ ፡ ብዙኃን ፡ ያነሥእዎ ፡ ወእመኒ ፡ ነበበ ፡ ያረትዑ ፡ ሎቱ ፡ ቃሎ ፡ ወነዳይሰ ፡ ለእመ ፡ ስሕተ ፡ ይረግምዎ ፡ ወእመኒ ፡ ሠናየ ፡ ነበበ ፡ ኢያጸምእዎ ።
When a rich man is fallen, there are many helpers; He speaks things not to be spoken, and men justify him: A man of low degree falls, and men rebuke him withal; He utters wisdom, and no place is allowed him.
13:23 ⧉ ⤴︎ πλούσιος ἐλάλησεν καὶ πάντες ἐσίγησαν καὶ τὸν λόγον αὐτοῦ ἀνύψωσαν ἕως τῶν νεφελῶν πτωχὸς ἐλάλησεν καὶ εἶπαν τίς οὗτος κἂν προσκόψῃ προσανατρέψουσιν αὐτόν
Venatio leonis onager in eremo : sic et pascua divitum sunt pauperes .
ወባዕልሰ ፡ ለእመ ፡ ነበበ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ያረምም ፡ ወይንእዱ ፡ ሎቱ ፡ ቃሎ ፡ ወያበጽሕዎ ፡ እስከ ፡ ደመና ፡ ወነዳይሰ ፡ ለእመ ፡ ነበበ ፡ ሠናይ ፡ ምንትኑ ፡ ዝንቱ ፡ ይብልዎ ፡ ወእመኒ ፡ ተዐቅፈ ፡ ያቴክልዎ ።
A rich man speaks, and all keep silence; And what he says they extol to the clouds: A poor man speaks, and they say, Who is this? And if he stumble, they will help to overthrow him.
13:24 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἀγαθὸς ὁ πλοῦτος ᾧ μή ἐστιν ἁμαρτία καὶ πονηρὰ ἡ πτωχεία ἐν στόματι ἀσεβοῦς
Et sicut abominatio est superbo humilitas , sic et execratio divitis pauper .
ሠናይ ፡ ብዕል ፡ እንዘ ፡ ኢትገብር ፡ ኀጢአተ ፡ ያሐሥማ ፡ ኃጥእ ፡ ለንዴቱ ፡ በአፉሁ ።
Riches are good that have no sin; And poverty is evil in the mouth of the ungodly.
13:25 ⧉ ⤴︎ καρδία ἀνθρώπου ἀλλοιοῖ τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἐάν τε εἰς ἀγαθὰ ἐάν τε εἰς κακά
Dives commotus confirmatur ab amicis suis : humilis autem cum ceciderit , expelletur et a notis .
ልቡ ፡ ለሰብእ ፡ ይዌልጥ ፡ ገጾ ፡ ለእመኒ ፡ ፍሡሕ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ወለእመኒ ፡ ትኩዝ ፡ ውእቱ ።
The heart of a man changes his countenance, Whether it be for good or for evil.
13:26 ⧉ ⤴︎ ἴχνος καρδίας ἐν ἀγαθοῖς πρόσωπον ἱλαρόν καὶ εὕρεσις παραβολῶν διαλογισμοὶ μετὰ κόπων
Diviti decepto multi recuperatores : locutus est superbia , et justificaverunt illum .
አሠሩ ፡ ለልብ ፡ ፍሡሕ ፡ ገጽ ፡ ብሩህ ፡ ወትረክብ ፡ ምክረ ፡ ጥበብ ፡ ሰሪሐከ ።
A cheerful countenance is a token of a heart that is in prosperity; And the finding out of parables is a weariness of thinking.
