2:1
But the tyrant could no longer endure these things, being beyond measure a hater of the good and a plotter against all that is good—he whom we said ruled the eastern parts; nor did he suffer matters to be carried on in this manner for even a full six months. Contriving, then, every device to overturn the peace, he first attempted on some pretext to shut us out from assembling in the cemeteries; next, through certain wicked men, he sent an embassy to himself against us, having urged on the citizens of Antioch to petition that, as a very great favour, they might obtain from him that no Christian should in any wise be permitted to dwell in their fatherland, and to bring it about that others should put forward the same suggestion. The originator of all this sprang up at Antioch itself, namely Theotecnus, a clever and a crafty and a wicked man, and at variance with his name; and he was reckoned to hold the office of curator in the city.
