3:1
This man, then, having waged very many campaigns against us, and having made it his earnest endeavour by every means to hunt our people out of their hiding-places as though they were unholy thieves, and having contrived everything to slander and accuse us, and having become the cause of death to countless multitudes, at last set up by certain conjurings and sorceries an image of Zeus the Befriender, and having devised for it unhallowed rites and ill-omened initiations and abominable purifications, he displayed his wonder-working through what he pretended to be oracles, even in the Emperor's presence. And moreover this fellow, by flattery according to the ruler's pleasure, stirred up the demon against the Christians, and declared that the god, forsooth, had commanded that the Christians, as being his enemies, should be driven out beyond the borders of the city and of the fields around the city.
