ℹ️ This corpus has no verse-level morphological tagging. Lemmas come mainly from word-level tagging of other books in the same language (not from this verse), falling back to dictionary form-matching for the rest. Rare homographs can still be misread; verify against the original and a specialist lexicon where precision matters.

Marcion of Pontus succeeded him and enlarged the school, blaspheming without shame. From Saturninus and Marcion arose those called the Encratites, who preached against marriage, thus setting aside the ancient handiwork of God and quietly accusing him who made male and female for the generation of mankind. They also introduced abstinence from what they call “ensouled” things, being ungrateful to the God who made all things. And they contradict the salvation of the first-formed man; and this notion has now been invented among them, a certain Tatian being the first to introduce this blasphemy. He had been a hearer of Justin, and as long as he was with him he disclosed nothing of the kind; but after Justin’s martyrdom he departed from the Church, and being puffed up and inflated with the conceit of being a teacher, as though he surpassed the rest, he established his own peculiar type of school. He invented certain invisible Aeons, like those of Valentinus; and like Marcion and Saturninus he declared marriage to be corruption and fornication; and he devised on his own account the explanation concerning the salvation of Adam.
