And they say that this Mark was the first to be sent to Egypt, and there to proclaim the Gospel which he had also composed, and first to establish churches in Alexandria itself.
And so great a multitude of believers, of both men and women, was gathered together there from the very first onset, by a most philosophic and most intense discipline, that Philo deemed even their occupations and their assemblies, their banquets and all the rest of their manner of life, worthy of being recorded in writing.
