And in this I rejoice, yea, and I will rejoice.
3:2
For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, according to my earnest expectation and hope, that
3:3
in nothing shall I be put to shame, but with all boldness, as always, so now also, Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.
3:4
Nothing among the grievous things of the present life can wound the great and philosophic soul—not enmities, not accusations, not slanders, not dangers, not plots.
3:5
因為正如逃到某座高山之巔一般,它就非那些從下方地上攀爬而來的人所能觸及;
For just as when it has fled to some great mountain peak, it is beyond the grasp of all who come up from below off the earth,
3:6
such was the soul of Paul, having seized a place loftier than every peak—that of spiritual philosophy, of the true wisdom.
3:7
For the things of those outside are mere words and children's playthings.
3:8
But our discourse is not now about these things; rather we utter the words of Paul for the present.
3:9
那位蒙福的人,即使有皇帝與他為敵爭戰,除此之外還有別的仇敵,用種種方法使他憂苦,並帶著惡毒的毀謗;
That blessed man, even while he had the emperor waging war against him, had besides this other enemies as well, grieving him in various ways, and with bitter slander;
3:10
他卻怎麼說呢?我不僅不因這些事而憂傷、不氣餒,反倒歡喜,並且還要歡喜;
and what does he say? Not only am I not grieved by these things, nor cast down, but I even rejoice and will rejoice;
3:11
not for a season, he says, but always shall I rejoice over these things.
3:12
For I know that this shall turn to my salvation—the salvation to come.
3:13
For how shall it not turn out so, when even the enmity against me and the zeal directed against me benefit the preaching? Through your prayer, he says, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, according to my earnest expectation and hope.
3:14
Behold the humility of this blessed man;
3:15
他正在競技場中角力奮鬥,已成就了無數的功勳,如今已近乎那冠冕本身;
he was contending in the contests, he had accomplished countless deeds, he now lay near to the very crown itself;
3:16
for what more could one say? Yet he writes to the Philippians that: Through your prayer I am able to be saved—he who had acquired salvation from countless right deeds.
3:17
And the supply, he says, of the Spirit of Jesus Christ.
3:18
What does 'supply' mean? If through your prayers, he says, I be counted worthy of the grace.
3:19
因為「幫助」(供應)一詞的意思就是:若得著供應,若有更多的靈賜予我;
For the word 'supply' means this: if it be supplied, if more of the Spirit be granted to me;
3:20
Unto salvation—that is, deliverance, and I shall escape the present danger, as the first.
3:21
我初次申訴的時候,沒有人前來幫助我;
At my first defense no one stood with me;
3:22
but the Lord stood by me, and strengthened me.
3:23
This, at any rate, he now already prophesies, saying: Through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, according to my earnest expectation and hope.
3:24
For lest again we should entrust the whole to their prayers, contributing nothing ourselves, see how he sets down his own part—hope, the cause of all good things—just as the prophet says:
3:25
Let Thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us, according as we have hoped in Thee;
3:26
just as also elsewhere he says: Behold the generations of old, and see:
3:27
who hoped in the Lord, and was put to shame? And again this blessed man says: But hope maketh not ashamed.
3:28
According to my earnest expectation, he says, and hope, that in nothing shall I be put to shame.
3:29
This is Paul's hope—to hope that: Nowhere shall I be put to shame.
3:30
你看見仰望神是何等大的事嗎?他說:無論發生甚麼事,我都不至於羞愧;
Do you see how great a thing it is to hope in God? Whatever may happen, he says, I shall not be put to shame;
3:31
that is, these men shall not prevail.
3:32
But with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body.
3:33
Those men were expecting through this snare, forsooth, to catch Paul, and to quench the preaching, as though their guile were prevailing.
3:34
所以他就說:這事必不成就,我如今不會死;
This, then, is what he says: This shall not be, I shall not die now;
3:35
but as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body.
3:36
怎樣顯大呢?我屢次陷入危險,在其中眾人都對我們絕望,甚至連我們自己也對自己絕望;
How so? Often did I fall into dangers, in which all despaired of us, nay, we ourselves also despaired of ourselves;
3:37
我們自己心裡也斷定是必死的;
For in ourselves we had the sentence of death;
3:38
but the Lord delivered us out of all these things.
3:39
So now also Christ shall be magnified in my body.
3:40
But lest anyone suppose and say, 'If you die, will He not be magnified?' — 'Yes,' he says, 'I know it;'
3:41
'yet it was not for this reason that I spoke thus, as though life alone would magnify Him, but death also.'
3:42
For the present, however, he says, 'Through life;'
3:43
they do not take my life away; yet even if they had taken it, thus also would Christ be magnified.
3:44
怎樣呢?藉著活著,是因為祂搭救了我;
How? Through life, because He delivered me;
3:45
through death, because not even death could persuade me to deny Him.
3:46
因為祂賜給我這樣大的熱心,使我比死更剛強;
For He bestowed on me such great zeal, and made me stronger than death;
3:47
在那一面,是因為祂救我脫離了危險;
there indeed, because He rescued me from dangers;
3:48
but here, because He did not allow me to fear the tyranny of death.
3:49
Thus shall He be magnified through both life and death.
3:50
He says these things not as one about to die, but that whenever he should die, they might suffer nothing merely human.
3:51
For that it was not as one about to die that he was saying these things — which grieved them most of all — see how he consoles them on this very point, all but saying:
3:52
'I say these things,' he says, 'not as one who is going to die.'
3:53
Therefore he added as he went on:
3:54
'And having this confidence, I know that I shall remain, and shall continue with you all.'
3:55
And the phrase, 'In nothing shall I be ashamed,' means this: 'Dying brings me no shame, but rather great gain.'
3:56
為什麼呢?因為我原不是不死的,但我卻要比我是不死的更加榮耀;
Why? For I am not immortal, but I shall be more glorious than if I were even immortal;
3:57
οὐ γάρ .
for it is not the same thing for one who is immortal to despise death, and for one who is mortal.
3:58
所以這也不是羞恥,就是如今死去;
So then neither is this a shame, to die now;
3:59
'In nothing shall I be ashamed,' he says, 'neither in living nor in dying;'
3:60
for both I shall bear nobly, whether to live or to die.
3:61
'But in all boldness,' he says.
3:62
「你看見我如何不羞愧嗎?」因為死亡的恐懼若削減了我的膽量,那麼死去就是可羞恥的;
'Do you see how I am not ashamed?' For if the fear of death were cutting off my boldness, then to die would be worthy of shame;
3:63
但這死亡臨到我,若絲毫沒有使我懼怕,那就不是羞恥了;
but if this, when it comes upon me, has caused me no fear, then this is no shame;
3:64
無論是我活著,我藉著活著必不至於羞愧;
but whether I live, I shall not be ashamed through living;
3:65
或是我死了,我藉著死也必不至於羞愧;
or whether I die, I shall not be ashamed through dying;
3:66
for I display the same boldness in both.
3:67
For do not, because I spoke of bonds, regard the matter as a shame.
3:68
It has become to me the cause of so many good things, in that it also gave others courage.
3:69
因為為基督的緣故被捆綁並不是羞恥,乃是因懼怕鎖鏈而出賣了屬基督的事,這才是羞恥;
For it is not being bound for Christ's sake, but rather, in fearing the bonds, to betray something of what belongs to Christ — this is shame;
3:70
so that, if this be not the case, the bonds themselves are procurers of boldness.
3:71
你們不要因為我屢次逃脫了危險(並且我可以在不信的人面前以此誇口),若如今沒有這樣的事發生,就立刻以為我是蒙羞了;
Do not, because I have often escaped dangers (and I can boast of these before the unbelievers), if no such thing should now happen, straightway suppose that I am put to shame;
3:72
for indeed this too, no less than that, gives you boldness.
3:73
你看他如何以他自己作例子提出這事;
See how he brings it forward in his own person;
3:74
which he does in many places elsewhere also, just as in the Epistle to the Romans, 'For I am not ashamed of the Gospel,' he says;
3:75
'And these things I have in a figure transferred to myself and Apollos.'
3:76
'Whether through life or through death.'
3:77
他說這話,並不是因為他不知道;
He says this, not as one who is ignorant of it;
3:78
因為他知道他那時還不會死,乃是在此以後才死;
for he knows that he will not die then, but afterwards;
3:79
但他已經在預先裝備他們的心靈;
yet he is already preparing their soul beforehand;
3:80
'For to me,' he says, 'to live is Christ, and to die is gain.'
3:81
'For even in dying,' he says, 'I shall not be dead, having life within myself.'
3:82
'Then indeed would they have destroyed me, if they had been able through fear to cast faith out of my soul;'
3:83
'but so long as Christ is with me, even if death should come, I live.'
3:84
'And in this present life too, my life is not this, but Christ.'
3:85
'If then not even in this life is this so' —
3:86
'And the life which I now live in the flesh, I live in faith;'
3:87
'And it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.'
3:88
Such ought the Christian to be.
3:89
'I do not live,' he says, 'the common life.'
3:90
How then do you live, O blessed Paul? Do you not behold the sun? Do you not breathe the common air? Are you not nourished by the same food as all men? Do you not tread the earth as we do? Do you not need sleep? Do you not need garments? Do you not need shoes? What do you mean, 'I do not live'? How do you not live? Why do you speak so loftily? These words are no vaunting.
3:91
因為若是事實不能作見證,人或許可以合理地說這是誇大之詞;
For if the facts did not bear witness, one might reasonably say that it was mere boasting;
3:92
but if the facts do bear witness, what boasting is there? How then does he not live?
3:93
for indeed elsewhere he says, 'I have been crucified to the world, and the world to me.'
3:94
How then does he say, 'I no longer live,' and how again, 'To me to live is Christ'? Listen:
3:95
The word 'life,' beloved, has many meanings — that is, it signifies many things — as does also the word 'death.'
3:96
有這肉體的生命,也有罪的生命;
There is this life of the body, and there is the life of sin;
3:97
even as he himself says elsewhere:
3:98
「我們既然向罪死了,豈可仍在罪中活著呢?」可見確有活在罪的生命之中這回事;
'But if we died to sin, how shall we still live in it?' So then there is such a thing as living the life of sin;
3:99
我懇求你們留心細聽,免得我們枉費心力;
attend closely, I beseech you, that we may not labour in vain;
3:100
有那永恆不死的生命,並且與此相連的是屬天的生命;
there is the life that is eternal and immortal, and together with this the heavenly life;
3:101
'For our commonwealth,' he says, 'exists in the heavens.'
3:102
There is the life of the body, of which he says, 'In Him we live, and move, and have our being.'
3:103
所以他所說他不活著的,並不是那自然的生命,乃是這罪的生命,就是眾人所活的;
It is not therefore the natural life that he says he does not live, but this life of sins, which all men live;
3:104
因為那不貪戀今生的人,怎麼算活在今生呢?那奔向另一生命的人,怎麼算活在今生呢?那輕看死亡的人,怎麼算活在今生呢?那對這裡的萬物一無貪戀的人,怎麼算活在今生呢?因為好像一個用金剛石構成的人,縱使被擊打千萬次,也絕不會回頭;
For he who does not desire the present life, how does he live it? He who hastens toward another, how does he live this one? He who despises death, how does he live it? He who desires none of the things here, how does he live it? For just as one composed of adamant, even if he be struck ten thousand times, would never be turned aside;
3:105
他說:「現在活著的不再是我」,就是說,那舊人不再活著;
'And it is no longer I who live,' he says, that is, the old man;
3:106
and again elsewhere, 'Wretched man that I am!'
3:107
「誰能救我脫離這取死的身體呢?」照樣,那不為飲食做甚麼、不為衣裳做甚麼、不為現今任何事物做甚麼的人,這人怎麼算活著呢?這樣的人連那自然的生命也不算活著;
'who shall deliver me from the body of this death?' Thus he who does nothing for the sake of food, nothing for the sake of raiment, nothing for the sake of any of the things present — how does this man live? Such a one does not even live the natural life;
3:108
he who takes no thought for the things of this life does not live it.
3:109
活在今生這種生活的是我們,就是凡事都為今生而行的人;
It is we who live this present life, we who do all things for its sake;
3:110
For he was engaged in none of the affairs of this present world.
3:111
How then did he live? In this same way we too say of certain persons:
3:112
當某人不做任何與我相關的事時,我便說:「他不在我身邊」;
Such a one is not present to me, whenever he does nothing that pertains to me;
3:113
Such a one is not alive to me — again in like manner.
3:114
For that he is not disclaiming the natural life, he shows elsewhere, saying:
3:115
And the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
3:116
That is to say: I live a certain new life, one that is transformed.
3:117
All these things, then, he says for the consolation of the Philippians.
3:118
他說:你們不要以為我被奪去了這現今的生命;
Do not suppose, he says, that I am being deprived of this present life;
3:119
for not even while living was I living this life, but that other one, which Christ willed.
3:120
For tell me: the man who despises riches, who despises luxury, hunger and thirst, dangers, health, safety — does he live this life? He who possesses nothing here, who has often been willing to cast this very life away when necessity demanded and did not cling to it — does he live this life? By no means.
3:121
But it is by means of an illustration that I must make this plain to you.
3:122
譬如說,設有一人身處極大的財富之中,擁有僕役和金銀,卻絲毫不使用這些;
For instance, let there be someone amid great wealth, and let him possess servants and gold, yet let him make use of none of these;
3:123
does this man then enjoy that wealth? By no means.
3:124
再讓他眼看著自己的兒女揮霍他的家產、漫無目的地遊蕩,而他對他們毫不關心;
Let him also look on while his children squander his possessions, wandering aimlessly about, and let him take no thought for any of them;
3:125
並且,你若願意,就算他挨打,也讓他毫無痛覺;
and, if you will, though he be struck, let him feel no pain;
3:126
shall we then say that he is in wealth? By no means.
3:127
So too Paul: For to me, he says, to live is Christ.
3:128
If you would examine my life, He is that life.
3:129
為什麼呢?因為我將更清楚明確地與他同在;
Why? Because I shall be more clearly united with Him;
3:130
so that to die is rather to live.
3:131
Those who kill me will do me no harm, but rather send me forward to my true life, and release me from this life which does not belong to me.
3:132
What then? While you were here, were you not Christ's?
3:133
But if to live in the flesh, this is to me the fruit of labour — and what I shall choose I know not.
3:134
If then that is life, for what reason did Christ leave you here? It is the fruit of labour, he says.
3:135
So that it is possible to use even this present life for what is needful, without living it as the many do.
3:136
He says this, so that you should not think this life is being disparaged, nor say:
3:137
For if we are of no use here, for what reason do we not
3:138
了斷自己、殺死自己呢?」他說:斷乎不可;
make away with ourselves and kill ourselves? By no means, he says;
3:139
for it is possible, even while here, to gain profit, if we do not live this life, but another.
3:140
Does this bear fruit for you? Yes, he says.
3:141
如今那些異端在哪裡呢?看哪,他在此正把「在肉身活著」這件事稱為工作的果子;
Where now are the heretics? Behold, he here calls the very thing, to live in the flesh, the fruit of labour;
3:142
How is it the fruit of labour? And the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith.
3:143
And what I shall choose, I know not.
3:144
Ah, how great was his philosophy!
3:145
How he cast out the desire for the present life, and yet did not disparage it!
3:146
因為他藉著說「死了就有益處」,就驅除了那貪戀;
For by saying that to die is gain, thereby he cast out the desire;
3:147
and by saying that to live in the flesh is the fruit of labour, thereby he showed the present life also to be necessary.
3:148
怎麼說呢?就是若我們善用它於當行之事,若我們結出果子;
How? If we use it for what is needful, if we bear fruit;
3:149
for if it be fruitless, it is no longer life.
3:150
For among trees too, those that bear no fruit we turn away from, just as from the withered ones, and consign them to the fire.
3:151
因為活著這件事,本身仍屬於中性、無關緊要之事;
For living, again, is among things indifferent and of the middle sort;
3:152
but to live well or ill lies in ourselves.
3:153
因為人是可以活得美好的;
For it is possible to live even well;
3:154
just as, if we should use it ill, not even so shall we disparage it.
3:155
Why? Because it is not itself the cause, but the choice of those who use it ill.
3:156
因為神使你活著,是為叫你為他而活;
For God made you to live, that you might live for Him;
3:157
but you, having lived to sin through wickedness, make yourself answerable to every charge.
3:158
保羅啊,請告訴我,你在說什麼呢?你不知道你要選擇哪樣嗎?他在此揭示了一個偉大的奧祕:他對自己的離世有主宰之權;
What do you say, tell me, O Paul? Do you not know what you will choose? Here he revealed a great mystery: that he was lord over his own departure;
3:159
for whenever there is a choice, we are lords.
3:160
What I shall choose, he says, I know not.
3:161
Is it then in your power? Yes, he says, if I should be willing to ask of God a grace.
3:162
For I am hard pressed between the two, having the desire.
3:163
看哪,這位有福之人何等溫柔慈愛;
Behold the tender affection of this blessed man;
3:164
and by this also he consoles them, when they see that he himself is lord of the choice, that this comes about not by human wickedness, but by the dispensation of God.
3:165
Why then are you grieved, he says, over my death? It were far better to have departed long ago.
3:166
For to depart, he says, and to be with Christ is far better;
3:167
but to abide in the flesh is more necessary for your sakes.
3:168
這些話是為他即將來臨的死亡作準備,好叫他們能勇敢地承受;
These things are preparatory to his coming death, that they may bear it nobly;
3:169
these things are instructive of true wisdom.
3:170
他說:離世與基督同在,乃是美好的;
It is good, he says, to depart and to be with Christ;
3:171
for death, too, is among things indifferent.
3:172
因為死本身並不是惡,惟有死後受刑罰才是惡;
For death is not an evil, but to be punished after dying is an evil;
3:173
死本身也不是善,惟有離世與基督同在才是善;
neither is death a good, but to depart and to be with Christ is a good;
3:174
the things after death are either good or evil.
3:175
因此,我們不要單單為那死去的人哀哭,也不要單單為那活著的人歡喜;
Let us not therefore mourn simply over those who die, nor rejoice simply over those who live;
3:176
but what? Let us mourn the sinners, not only when they die, but also while they live.
3:177
But let us rejoice over the righteous, not only while they live, but also when they have died.
3:178
因為前者雖然活著卻已是死了,後者雖然死了卻仍然活著;
For the former, even while living, are dead, but the latter, even having died, are alive;
3:179
前者即使在此世,也是眾人所可憐的,因為他們得罪了神;
the former, even while they are here, are pitiable to all, since they offend God;
3:180
These too, when they departed thither, are blessed, because they went away to Christ.
3:181
罪人無論身在何處,都是遠離君王的;
Sinners, wherever they may be, are far from the King;
3:182
but the righteous, whether here or there, are with the King—and there indeed more fully and more nearly, not by an image, not through faith, but, as it says, 'face to face.'
3:183
所以,我們不要單單為死者哀哭,卻要為那些死在罪中的人哀哭;
Let us not, then, simply weep for the dead, but for those who die in their sins;
3:184
these are worthy of lamentation, these of wailings and tears.
3:185
請告訴我,帶著罪離世,去到一個無法脫去罪的地方,還有甚麼盼望呢?當人還在此處時,或許還有很大的期望,指望他們會改變,會變得更好;
For what hope is there, tell me, in departing with one's sins to a place where it is not possible to put off one's sins? So long as men were here, there was perhaps much expectation that they would change, that they would become better;
3:186
but if they depart into Hades, where it is not possible to gain anything from repentance (for it says, 'In Hades, who shall confess to Thee?'), how are they not worthy of lamentation? Let us weep for those who depart in this way—I do not forbid it—let us weep, but not unseemly, not tearing our hair, not baring our arms, not disfiguring our faces, not clothing ourselves in black, but only in the
3:187
soul quietly let fall a bitter tear.
3:188
因為即使沒有這種排場,也能痛哭,而不只是作戲;
For it is possible even without this outward display to weep bitterly, and not merely to make a show;
3:189
for what is done by some differs in no way from children's play.
3:190
因為那些在市場上的捶胸痛哭,並非出於同情,而是為了炫耀、爭競與虛榮;
For those wailings in the marketplace are not out of sympathy, but for display and ambition and vainglory;
3:191
many do this as a profession.
3:192
當痛哭,當在家中歎息,沒有人看見;
Weep bitterly, groan at home, with no one looking on;
3:193
this is of sympathy, this also profits you.
3:194
因為這樣為別人哀傷的人,自己也會更加謹慎,絕不再陷入同樣的罪;
For he who mourns another in this way will himself be far more diligent never to fall into the same things;
3:195
sin will henceforth be fearful to you.
3:196
當為不信的人哀哭,當為那些與他們毫無分別的人哀哭,就是那些沒有受光照就離世的人,那些沒有印記的人;
Weep for the unbelievers, weep for those who differ in nothing from them, those who depart without illumination, those without the seal;
3:197
這些人才真正配得哀號,配得悲嘆;
these are truly worthy of lamentation, these of mourning;
3:198
they are outside the palace, together with the condemned, together with those who have been sentenced.
3:199
For 'Verily I say unto you, unless one be born of water and of the Spirit, he shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.'
3:200
Weep for those who have died in wealth, and yet devised no consolation for their own souls from that wealth—those who received the power to wash away their sins, and yet were unwilling.
3:201
For these let us all weep, both privately and in common, but with decorum, but with dignity, and not so as to make a spectacle of ourselves.
3:202
For these let us weep, not one day, nor a second, but our whole life long.
3:203
這樣的眼淚不是出於無理的激情,而是出於摯愛;
This is not the tear of an irrational passion, but of tender love;
3:204
and for this reason it is also quickly quenched.
3:205
But when it arises out of the fear of God, it always abides.
3:206
Let us weep, then, for these; let us help them according to our power; let us devise for them some assistance—small indeed, yet nevertheless able to help.
3:207
How, and in what way? By praying ourselves, and by exhorting others to make prayers on their behalf, by continually giving to the poor on their behalf.
3:208
這事帶有某種慰藉;
The matter has some consolation;
3:209
for hear God saying:
3:210
'I will defend this city for My own sake, and for the sake of David My servant.'
3:211
若單單記念一位義人尚且有這麼大的功效,那麼當人還為他行善事時,怎能沒有功效呢?使徒定下這些規矩並非徒然——就是在那令人敬畏的奧祕(聖餐)中為離世的人作記念;
If the mere memory of a righteous man availed so much, when deeds are also done on his behalf, how shall it not avail? Not in vain were these things ordained by the apostles—that at the awe-inspiring mysteries remembrance should be made of those who have departed;
3:212
they knew that much gain accrued to them from it, much benefit.
3:213
因為當全會眾舉手站立,眾祭司列班,那令人敬畏的祭物擺在面前時,我們為他們懇求神,怎能不蒙垂聽呢?然而這是就那些在信仰中離世的人而言;
For when the whole people stands with hands uplifted, a priestly assembly, and the awe-inspiring sacrifice lies set forth, how shall we not prevail upon God when we entreat Him on their behalf? But this concerns those who have departed in the faith;
3:214
but the catechumens are not counted worthy even of this consolation, but are deprived of all such assistance, save one alone.
3:215
那麼,這一種是甚麼呢?就是可以為他們周濟窮人;
What, then, is this one? It is possible to give to the poor on their behalf;
3:216
這事為他們帶來某種安慰;
the deed produces some refreshment for them;
3:217
for God wills that we should be benefited by one another.
3:218
祂為甚麼吩咐我們為世界的和平與安定禱告呢?為甚麼為萬人禱告呢?其實在這一切人當中,也有強盜、盜墓者和竊賊,以及滿載無數罪惡的人;
For why did He command us to pray for the peace and stability of the world? Why for all men? And yet here among all are robbers and grave-plunderers and thieves, and men laden with countless evils;
3:219
但我們仍然為眾人禱告;
but nevertheless we pray for all;
3:220
for perhaps there will be some conversion among them.
3:221
As, then, we pray for the living who differ in nothing from the dead, so it is possible to pray also for those departed.
3:222
約伯為他的兒女獻祭,使他們脫離罪愆;
Job offered sacrifices on behalf of his children, and freed them from their sins;
3:223
'Perhaps,' it says, 'they have conceived some evil in their heart.'
3:224
Thus does one provide for his children.
3:225
He did not say, as do most men of the present day:
3:226
'I am leaving them my possessions;'
3:227
but what? 'Lest perhaps they have conceived something in their heart.'
3:228
For what profit is there in all those things remaining here? None.
3:229
'I will make the King of all merciful to them,' he says, 'and thereafter they will lack nothing;'
3:230
'for the Lord,' it says, 'is my shepherd, and I shall lack nothing.'
3:231
這才是大財富,這才是寶藏;
This is great wealth, this is a treasure;
3:232
我們若有對神的敬畏,就一無所缺;
if we have the fear of God, we lack nothing;
3:233
but if we have not this, even if we possess the kingdom itself, we are poorer than all men.
3:234
沒有甚麼能與敬畏主的人相比;
Nothing equals the man who fears the Lord;
3:235
'For the fear of the Lord,' it says, 'surpasses all things.'
3:236
讓我們得著這敬畏;為此我們當行一切的事;
Let us acquire this; for the sake of this let us do all things;
3:237
即使必須捨去性命,我們也不當顧惜;即使必須讓身體被碎割;
even if we must give up our life, let us not spare it; even if we must have our body cut in pieces;
3:238
let us do all things, that we may attain this fear.
3:239
For thus shall we be more abundantly supplied with all things, and shall attain the good things to come, in Christ Jesus our Lord, with whom to the Father, together with the Holy Spirit, be glory, might, honour, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
