And just as we judge their life — not from certain blameworthy deeds as impious, but from other far more numerous right ones as righteous — according to the testimony of God's Scripture: so let us also judge their doctrine — not from certain blameworthy sayings as heretical, but from other far more numerous right ones as catholic — according to the testimony of the Church of God. Whence the holy synod of the East, writing to Theodosius, said: 'But if anyone, holy Emperor, should say that something obscure is found in the letters of Theodore or of others, it is not necessary that this be reconsidered. For to those whose life had its best end in the priesthood and ministry, we dedicate a pre-eminent glory, and do not judge them from those things of which some atrociously accuse them.'
