And Jesus the son of Josedek and his brothers the priests, and Zorobabel the son of Salathiel and his brothers, rose up and built the altar of the God of Israel, to offer up whole burnt offerings on it, according to what is written in the law of Moses the man of God.
And they set the altar on its foundation, because they were in terror of the peoples of the lands; and a whole burnt offering went up on it to the Lord, in the morning and toward evening.
And they kept the feast of tabernacles according to what is written, with whole burnt offerings day by day, in number according to the ordinance, the matter of each day on its day.
And after this, the continual whole burnt offerings, and those for the new moons and for all the hallowed feasts, and for everyone who offered a freewill offering to the Lord.
And they gave silver to the stonecutters and to the carpenters, and food and drink and oil to the Sedanin and to the Sorin, to bring cedar timber from Lebanon to the sea of Joppa, according to the grant of Cyrus king of the Persians to them.
And in the second year of their coming to the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, Zorobabel the son of Salathiel and Jesus the son of Josedek and the rest of their brothers, the priests and the Levites, and all who had come from the captivity to Jerusalem, began; and they appointed the Levites from twenty years old and upward over those who did the work in the house of the Lord.
And Jesus stood up, and his sons and his brothers, Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, over those who did the work in the house of God; also the sons of Enadad, their sons and their brothers, the Levites.
And they laid the foundation to build the house of the Lord; and the priests stood in their vestments with trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, with cymbals, to praise the Lord, at the hands of David king of Israel.
And they answered with praise and thanksgiving to the Lord: For he is good, for his mercy toward Israel is forever. And all the people shouted with a great voice, praising the Lord at the founding of the house of the Lord.
And many of the priests and the Levites and the heads of families, the elders who had seen the first house at its founding, and this house before their eyes, wept with a great voice; and a crowd shouted with joy, lifting up a song.
And the people could not distinguish the sound of the shout of joy from the sound of the weeping of the people, for the people cried out with a great voice, and the sound was heard from afar.
