20:20
And even if you are treated with drugs (I permit it to you by way of concession), you ought to attach the testimony to God. For the world still drags us down, and through weakness I crave matter. For the soul's plumage is the perfect spirit, which, having cast it off on account of sin, the soul flew like a fledgling and became earth-bound; and having departed from heavenly fellowship, it longed for participation in the lesser things. The demons were removed from their place; the first-formed were banished; and the former were cast down from heaven, but the latter from the earth—yet not from this present earth, but from an ordering better than the one here. And it remains for us henceforth, having longed for the ancient state, to renounce everything that becomes an obstacle. For the heaven is not boundless, O man, but finite and bounded; and the things above it—the better aeons—not having any change of seasons through which manifold diseases are established, but having partaken of every good temperature, possess an abiding day and a radiance inaccessible to the men here below. Now those who labored at geographies made, as far as was possible for man, the record of the regions; but, being unable to speak of the things beyond, on account of the impossibility of observation, they alleged the ebb-tides, and that of seas one is weed-grown, another muddy, and that of places some have fieriness, others coldness and being frozen solid. But we have learned the things unknown to us through the prophets, who, being persuaded together with their souls that the heavenly spirit will gain the over-garment of mortality, foretold the things which the rest of the souls did not know. And it is possible for everyone who goes naked to gain the ornament and to run back up to the ancient kinship.
