42:1
Audiens autem Jacob quod alimenta venderentur in Aegypto, dixit filiis suis : Quare negligitis ?
雅各見埃及有糧，就對兒子們說：「你們為甚麼彼此觀望呢？
Now Jacob saw that there was grain in Egypt, and Jacob said to his sons, “Why do you look at one another?”
42:2
audivi quod triticum venundetur in Aegypto : descendite, et emite nobis necessaria, ut possimus vivere, et non consumamur inopia.
我聽見埃及有糧，你們可以下去，從那裏為我們糴些來，使我們可以存活，不至於死。」
He said, “Behold, I have heard that there is grain in Egypt. Go down there, and buy for us from there, so that we may live, and not die.”
42:3
Descendentes igitur fratres Joseph decem, ut emerent frumenta in Aegypto,
於是，約瑟的十個哥哥都下埃及糴糧去了。
Joseph’s ten brothers went down to buy grain from Egypt.
42:4
Benjamin domi retento a Jacob, qui dixerat fratribus ejus : Ne forte in itinere quidquam patiatur mali :
但約瑟的兄弟便雅憫，雅各沒有打發他和哥哥們同去，因為雅各說：「恐怕他遭害。」
But Jacob didn’t send Benjamin, Joseph’s brother, with his brothers; for he said, “Lest perhaps harm happen to him.”
42:5
ingressi sunt terram Aegypti cum aliis qui pergebant ad emendum. Erat autem fames in terra Chanaan.
來糴糧的人中有以色列的兒子們，因為迦南地也有饑荒。
The sons of Israel came to buy among those who came, for the famine was in the land of Canaan.
42:6
Et Joseph erat princeps in terra Aegypti, atque ad ejus nutum frumenta populis vendebantur. Cumque adorassent eum fratres sui,
當時治理埃及地的是約瑟；糶糧給那地眾民的就是他。約瑟的哥哥們來了，臉伏於地，向他下拜。
Joseph was the governor over the land. It was he who sold to all the people of the land. Joseph’s brothers came, and bowed themselves down to him with their faces to the earth.
42:7
et agnovisset eos, quasi ad alienos durius loquebatur, interrogans eos : Unde venistis ? Qui responderunt : De terra Chanaan, ut emamus victui necessaria.
約瑟看見他哥哥們，就認得他們，卻裝作生人，向他們說些嚴厲話，問他們說：「你們從哪裏來？」他們說：「我們從迦南地來糴糧。」
Joseph saw his brothers, and he recognized them, but acted like a stranger to them, and spoke roughly with them. He said to them, “Where did you come from?” They said, “From the land of Canaan, to buy food.”
42:8
Et tamen fratres ipse cognoscens, non est cognitus ab eis.
約瑟認得他哥哥們，他們卻不認得他。
Joseph recognized his brothers, but they didn’t recognize him.
42:9
Recordatusque somniorum, quae aliquando viderat, ait ad eos : Exploratores estis : ut videatis infirmiora terrae venistis.
約瑟想起從前所做的那兩個夢，就對他們說：「你們是奸細，來窺探這地的虛實。」
Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed about them, and said to them, “You are spies! You have come to see the nakedness of the land.”
42:10
Qui dixerunt : Non est ita, domine, sed servi tui venerunt ut emerent cibos.
他們對他說：「我主啊，不是的。僕人們是糴糧來的。
They said to him, “No, my lord, but your servants have come to buy food.
42:11
Omnes filii unius viri sumus : pacifici venimus, nec quidquam famuli tui machinantur mali.
我們都是一個人的兒子，是誠實人；僕人們並不是奸細。」
We are all one man’s sons; we are honest men. Your servants are not spies.”
42:12
Quibus ille respondit : Aliter est : immunita terrae hujus considerare venistis.
約瑟說：「不然，你們必是窺探這地的虛實來的。」
He said to them, “No, but you have come to see the nakedness of the land!”
42:13
At illi : Duodecim, inquiunt, servi tui, fratres sumus, filii viri unius in terra Chanaan : minimus cum patre nostro est, alius non est super.
他們說：「僕人們本是弟兄十二人，是迦南地一個人的兒子，頂小的現今在我們的父親那裏，有一個沒有了。」
They said, “We, your servants, are twelve brothers, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan; and behold, the youngest is today with our father, and one is no more.”
42:14
Hoc est, ait, quod locutus sum : exploratores estis.
約瑟說：「我才說你們是奸細，這話實在不錯。
Joseph said to them, “It is like I told you, saying, ‘You are spies!’
42:15
Jam nunc experimentum vestri capiam : per salutem Pharaonis non egrediemini hinc, donec veniat frater vester minimus.
我指着法老的性命起誓，若是你們的小兄弟不到這裏來，你們就不得出這地方，從此就可以把你們證驗出來了。
By this you shall be tested. By the life of Pharaoh, you shall not go out from here, unless your youngest brother comes here.
42:16
Mittite ex vobis unum, et adducat eum : vos autem eritis in vinculis, donec probentur quae dixistis utrum vera an falsa sint : alioquin per salutem Pharaonis exploratores estis.
須要打發你們中間一個人去，把你們的兄弟帶來。至於你們，都要囚在這裏，好證驗你們的話真不真，若不真，我指着法老的性命起誓，你們一定是奸細。」
Send one of you, and let him get your brother, and you shall be bound, that your words may be tested, whether there is truth in you, or else by the life of Pharaoh surely you are spies.”
42:17
Tradidit ergo illos custodiae tribus diebus.
於是約瑟把他們都下在監裏三天。
He put them all together into custody for three days.
42:18
Die autem tertio eductis de carcere, ait : Facite quae dixi, et vivetis : Deum enim timeo.
到第三天，約瑟對他們說：「我是敬畏上帝的；你們照我的話行就可以存活。
Joseph said to them the third day, “Do this, and live, for I fear God.
42:19
Si pacifici estis, frater vester unus ligetur in carcere : vos autem abite, et ferte frumenta quae emistis, in domos vestras,
你們如果是誠實人，可以留你們中間的一個人囚在監裏，但你們可以帶着糧食回去，救你們家裏的饑荒。
If you are honest men, then let one of your brothers be bound in your prison; but you go, carry grain for the famine of your houses.
42:20
et fratrem vestrum minimum ad me adducite, ut possim vestros probare sermones, et non moriamini. Fecerunt ut dixerat,
把你們的小兄弟帶到我這裏來，如此，你們的話便有證據，你們也不至於死。」他們就照樣而行。
Bring your youngest brother to me; so will your words be verified, and you won’t die.” They did so.
42:21
et locuti sunt ad invicem : Merito haec patimur, quia peccavimus in fratrem nostrum, videntes angustiam animae illius, dum deprecaretur nos, et non audivimus : idcirco venit super nos ista tribulatio.
他們彼此說：「我們在兄弟身上實在有罪。他哀求我們的時候，我們見他心裏的愁苦，卻不肯聽，所以這場苦難臨到我們身上。」
They said to one another, “We are certainly guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the distress of his soul, when he begged us, and we wouldn’t listen. Therefore this distress has come upon us.”
42:22
E quibus unus Ruben, ait : Numquid non dixi vobis : Nolite peccare in puerum : et non audistis me ? en sanguis ejus exquiritur.
呂便說：「我豈不是對你們說過，不可傷害那孩子嗎？只是你們不肯聽，所以流他血的罪向我們追討。」
Reuben answered them, saying, “Didn’t I tell you, saying, ‘Don’t sin against the child,’ and you wouldn’t listen? Therefore also, behold, his blood is required.”
42:23
Nesciebant autem quod intelligeret Joseph, eo quod per interpretem loqueretur ad eos.
他們不知道約瑟聽得出來，因為在他們中間用通事傳話。
They didn’t know that Joseph understood them; for there was an interpreter between them.
42:24
Avertitque se parumper, et flevit : et reversus locutus est ad eos.
約瑟轉身退去，哭了一場，又回來對他們說話，就從他們中間挑出西緬來，在他們眼前把他捆綁。
He turned himself away from them, and wept. Then he returned to them, and spoke to them, and took Simeon from among them, and bound him before their eyes.
42:25
Tollensque Simeon, et ligans illis praesentibus, jussit ministris ut implerent eorum saccos tritico, et reponerent pecunias singulorum in sacculis suis, datis supra cibariis in viam : qui fecerunt ita.
約瑟吩咐人把糧食裝滿他們的器具，把各人的銀子歸還在各人的口袋裏，又給他們路上用的食物，人就照他的話辦了。
Then Joseph gave a command to fill their bags with grain, and to restore each man’s money into his sack, and to give them food for the way. So it was done to them.
42:26
At illi portantes frumenta in asinis suis, profecti sunt.
他們就把糧食馱在驢上，離開那裏去了。
They loaded their donkeys with their grain, and departed from there.
42:27
Apertoque unus sacco, ut daret jumento pabulum in diversorio, contemplatus pecuniam in ore sacculi,
到了住宿的地方，他們中間有一個人打開口袋，要拿料餵驢，才看見自己的銀子仍在口袋裏，
As one of them opened his sack to give his donkey food in the lodging place, he saw his money. Behold, it was in the mouth of his sack.
42:28
dixit fratribus suis : Reddita est mihi pecunia, en habetur in sacco. Et obstupefacti, turbatique, mutuo dixerunt : Quidnam est hoc quod fecit nobis Deus ?
就對弟兄們說：「我的銀子歸還了，看哪，仍在我口袋裏！」他們就提心吊膽，戰戰兢兢地彼此說：「這是上帝向我們做甚麼呢？」
He said to his brothers, “My money is restored! Behold, it is in my sack!” Their hearts failed them, and they turned trembling to one another, saying, “What is this that God has done to us?”
42:29
Veneruntque ad Jacob patrem suum in terram Chanaan, et narraverunt ei omnia quae accidissent sibi, dicentes :
他們來到迦南地、他們的父親雅各那裏，將所遭遇的事都告訴他，說：
They came to Jacob their father, to the land of Canaan, and told him all that had happened to them, saying,
42:30
Locutus est nobis dominus terrae dure, et putavit nos exploratores esse provinciae.
「那地的主對我們說嚴厲的話，把我們當作窺探那地的奸細。
“The man, the lord of the land, spoke roughly with us, and took us for spies of the country.
42:31
Cui respondimus : Pacifici sumus, nec ullas molimur insidias.
我們對他說：『我們是誠實人，並不是奸細。
We said to him, ‘We are honest men. We are no spies.
42:32
Duodecim fratres uno patre geniti sumus : unus non est super, minimus cum patre nostro est in terra Chanaan.
我們本是弟兄十二人，都是一個父親的兒子，有一個沒有了，頂小的如今同我們的父親在迦南地。』
We are twelve brothers, sons of our father; one is no more, and the youngest is today with our father in the land of Canaan.’
42:33
Qui ait nobis : Sic probabo quod pacifici sitis : fratrem vestrum unum dimittite apud me, et cibaria domibus vestris necessaria sumite, et abite,
那地的主對我們說：『若要我知道你們是誠實人，可以留下你們中間的一個人在我這裏，你們可以帶着糧食回去，救你們家裏的饑荒。
The man, the lord of the land, said to us, ‘By this I will know that you are honest men: leave one of your brothers with me, and take grain for the famine of your houses, and go your way.
42:34
fratremque vestrum minimum adducite ad me, ut sciam quod non sitis exploratores : et istum, qui tenetur in vinculis, recipere possitis : ac deinceps quae vultis, emendi habeatis licentiam.
把你們的小兄弟帶到我這裏來，我便知道你們不是奸細，乃是誠實人。這樣，我就把你們的弟兄交給你們，你們也可以在這地做買賣。』」
Bring your youngest brother to me. Then I will know that you are not spies, but that you are honest men. So I will deliver your brother to you, and you shall trade in the land.’”
42:35
His dictis, cum frumenta effunderent, singuli repererunt in ore saccorum ligatas pecunias, exterritisque simul omnibus,
後來他們倒口袋，不料，各人的銀包都在口袋裏；他們和父親看見銀包就都害怕。
As they emptied their sacks, behold, each man’s bundle of money was in his sack. When they and their father saw their bundles of money, they were afraid.
42:36
dixit pater Jacob : Absque liberis me esse fecistis : Joseph non est super, Simeon tenetur in vinculis, et Benjamin auferetis : in me haec omnia mala reciderunt.
他們的父親雅各對他們說：「你們使我喪失我的兒子：約瑟沒有了，西緬也沒有了，你們又要將便雅憫帶去；這些事都歸到我身上了。」
Jacob, their father, said to them, “You have bereaved me of my children! Joseph is no more, Simeon is no more, and you want to take Benjamin away. All these things are against me.”
42:37
Cui respondit Ruben : Duos filios meos interfice, si non reduxero illum tibi : trade illum in manu mea, et ego eum tibi restituam.
呂便對他父親說：「我若不帶他回來交給你，你可以殺我的兩個兒子。只管把他交在我手裏，我必帶他回來交給你。」
Reuben spoke to his father, saying, “Kill my two sons, if I don’t bring him to you. Entrust him to my care, and I will bring him to you again.”
42:38
At ille : Non descendet, inquit, filius meus vobiscum : frater ejus mortuus est, et ipse solus remansit : si quid ei adversi acciderit in terra ad quam pergitis, deducetis canos meos cum dolore ad inferos.
雅各說：「我的兒子不可與你們一同下去；他哥哥死了，只剩下他，他若在你們所行的路上遭害，那便是你們使我白髮蒼蒼、悲悲慘慘地下陰間去了。」
He said, “My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he only is left. If harm happens to him along the way in which you go, then you will bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to Sheol.”
