Ὅ γε μὴν Διονύσιος πρὸς ταῖς δηλωθείσαις ἐπιστολαῖς αὐτοῦ ἔτι καὶ τὰς φερομένας ἑορταστικὰς τὸ τηνικαῦτα συντάττει, πανηγυρικωτέρους ἐν αὐταῖς περὶ τῆς τοῦ πάσχα ἑορτῆς ἀνακινῶν λόγους. τούτων τὴν μὲν Φλαουΐῳ προσφωνεῖ, τὴν δὲ Δομετίῳ καὶ Διδύμῳ, ἐν ἡ καὶ κανόνα ἐκτίθεται ὀκταετηρίδος, ὅτι μὴ ἄλλοτε ἢ μετὰ τὴν ἐαρινὴν ἰσημερίαν προσήκοι τὴν τοῦ πάσχα ἑορτὴν ἐπιτελεῖν παριστάμενος. πρὸς ταύταις καὶ ἄλλην τοῖς κατ Ἀλεξάνδρειαν συμπρεσβυτέροις ἐπιστολὴν διαχαράττει, ἑτέροις τε ὁμοῦ διαφόρως, καὶ ταύτας ἔτι τοῦ διωγμοῦ συνεστῶτος.
Dionysius, then, besides the letters of his that have been mentioned, also composed at that time the so-called Festal Letters that are extant, in which he raises discourses of a more festal character concerning the feast of the Pascha. Of these he addresses one to Flavius, and another to Domitius and Didymus, in which he also sets forth a canon of an eight-year cycle, maintaining that it is fitting to celebrate the feast of the Pascha at no other time than after the vernal equinox. Besides these he also penned another letter to his fellow-presbyters at Alexandria, and others at the same time to various persons; and these while the persecution was still in force.
