2:1

Post hæc vero, cum esset dies festus Domini, et factum esset prandium bonum in domo Tobiæ,

Now when I had come home again, and my wife Anna was restored to me, and my son Tobias, in the feast of Pentecost, which is the holy feast of the seven weeks, there was a good dinner prepared me, and I sat down to eat.

後來我回到家中，妻子安納與兒子託比亞都歸還給了我。在五旬節，就是那七七的聖節，有人為我預備了豐盛的筵席，我便坐下用飯。

2:2

dixit filio suo : Vade, et adduc aliquos de tribu nostra, timentes Deum, ut epulentur nobiscum.

I saw abundance of meat, and I said to my son, “Go and bring whatever poor man you find of our kindred, who is mindful of the Lord. Behold, I wait for you.”

我看見席上佳餚甚多，就對我的兒子說：「你去，把你所能找到的、我們弟兄中記念主的窮人帶來。看哪，我在這裡等你。」

2:3

Cumque abiisset, reversus nuntiavit ei unum ex filiis Israël jugulatum jacere in platea. Statimque exiliens de accubitu suo, relinquens prandium, jejunus pervenit ad corpus :

Then he came, and said, “Father, one of our race is strangled, and has been cast out in the marketplace.”

他回來說：「父親，我們本族中有一個人被人勒死，拋棄在市場上。」

2:4

tollensque illud portavit ad domum suam occulte, ut dum sol occubuisset, caute sepeliret eum.

Before I had tasted anything, I sprang up, and took him up into a chamber until the sun had set.

我還沒有嚐到一點食物，就跳起來，把那屍體抬到一間屋子裡，等候日落。

2:5

Cumque occultasset corpus, manducavit panem cum luctu et tremore,

Then I returned, washed myself, ate my bread in heaviness,

然後我回來，洗了身，含著愁苦喫我的飯，

2:6

memorans illum sermonem, quem dixit Dominus per Amos prophetam : Dies festi vestri convertentur in lamentationem et luctum.

and remembered the prophecy of Amos, as he said, “Your feasts will be turned into mourning, and all your mirth into lamentation.

並想起亞毛斯先知的預言，他曾說：『你們的節期必變為悲哀，你們一切的歡樂必變為哀號。』我就哭了。

2:7

Cum vero sol occubuisset, abiit, et sepelivit eum.

So I wept: and when the sun had set, I went and dug a grave, and buried him.

等到日落，我便去挖了一個墳坑，將他埋葬了。

2:8

Arguebant autem eum omnes proximi ejus, dicentes : Jam hujus rei causa interfici jussus es, et vix effugisti mortis imperium, et iterum sepelis mortuos ?

My neighbors mocked me, and said, “He is no longer afraid to be put to death for this matter; and yet he fled away. Behold, he buries the dead again.”

我的鄰舍譏笑我說：「他竟不再怕為這事被處死了。他從前為此逃走，看哪，如今又埋葬死人。」

2:9

Sed Tobias plus timens Deum quam regem, rapiebat corpora occisorum, et occultabat in domo sua, et mediis noctibus sepeliebat ea.

The same night I returned from burying him, and slept by the wall of my courtyard, being polluted; and my face was uncovered.

就在那一夜，我埋葬死人回來，因身體沾染了污穢，便睡在自己院子的牆邊，臉也沒有遮蓋。
