10:1
Cum vero moras faceret Tobias, causa nuptiarum, sollicitus erat pater ejus Tobias, dicens : Putas quare moratur filius meus, aut quare detentus est ibi ?
Tobit his father counted every day. When the days of the journey were expired, and they didn’t come,
he said, “Is he perchance detained? Or is Gabael perchance dead, and there is no one to give him the money?”
He was sorely grieved.
10:4
Flebat igitur mater ejus irremediabilibus lacrimis, atque dicebat : Heu, heu me, fili mi ! ut quid te misimus peregrinari, lumen oculorum nostrorum, baculum senectutis nostræ, solatium vitæ nostræ, spem posteritatis nostræ ?
But his wife said to him, “The child has perished, seeing he waits long.” She began to bewail him, and said,
10:5
omnia simul in te uno habentes, te non debuimus dimittere a nobis.
“I care about nothing, my child, since I have let you go, the light of my eyes.”
Tobit saih to her, “Hold your peace. Don’t worry. He is in good health.”
And she said to him, “Hold your peace. Don’t deceive me. My child has perished.” And she went out every day into the way by which they went, and ate no bread in the day-time, and didn’t stop bewailing her son Tobias for whole nights, until the fourteen days of the wedding feast were expired, which Raguel had sworn that he should spend there. Then Tobias said to Raguel, “Send me away, for my father and my mother look no more to see me.”
But his father-in-law said to him, “Stay with me, and I will send to your father, and they will declare to him how things go with you.”
10:9
Cui Tobias ait : Ego novi quia pater meus et mater mea modo dies computant, et cruciatur spiritus eorum in ipsis.
Tobias said, “No. Send me away to my father.”
10:10
Cumque verbis multis rogaret Raguel Tobiam, et ille eum nulla ratione vellet audire, tradidit ei Saram, et dimidiam partem omnis substantiæ suæ in pueris, in puellis, in pecudibus, in camelis, et in vaccis, et in pecunia multa : et salvum atque gaudentem dimisit eum a se,
Raguel arose, and gave him Sarah his wife, and half his goods, servants and cattle and money;
10:11
dicens : Angelus Domini sanctus sit in itinere vestro, perducatque vos incolumes, et inveniatis omnia recte circa parentes vestros, et videant oculi mei filios vestros priusquam moriar.
and he blessed them, and sent them away, saying, “The God of heaven will prosper you, my children, before I die.”
And he said to his daughter, “Honor your father-in-law and your mother-in-law. They are now your parents. Let me hear a good report of you. Then he kissed her. Edna said to Tobias, “May the Lord of heaven restore you, dear brother, and grant to me that I may see your children of my daughter Sarah, that I may rejoice before the Lord. Behold, I commit my daughter to you in special trust. Don’t cause her grief.
10:13
monentes eam honorare soceros, diligere maritum, regere familiam, gubernare domum, et seipsam irreprehensibilem exhibere.
And Edna said to Tobias, Beloved brother, may the Lord of heaven restore you, and grant me to see your children by Sarah my daughter, that I may rejoice before the Lord. And behold, I commit my daughter to you in trust; do not grieve her. And Edna said to Tobias, My child and beloved brother, may the Lord restore you, and may I see your children while I live, and the children of Sarah my daughter, before I die. Before the Lord I commit my daughter to you in trust; do not grieve her all the days of your life. Go in peace, my child; from now on I am your mother, and Sarah is your sister. May we all prosper together all the days of our life. And she kissed them both, and sent them away in health.
