«Knowing therefore the fear of the Lord, we persuade men, but we are made manifest unto God;»
11:2
«and I hope also that we have been made manifest in your consciences.»
11:3
Knowing these things, he says—that dread tribunal—we do everything so as to give you no handle against us, nor any stumbling-block, nor any false suspicion of some evil deed on our part.
11:4
你看見了他生活行為的嚴謹,以及一個滿有關切之靈的殷勤麼?他說,並不單是我們若行了甚麼惡事才受責備;
Do you see the strictness of his manner of life, and the earnestness of a soul that is full of care? For it is not only if we do something wicked, he says, that we are called to account;
11:5
but even if we do it not, yet are suspected—and though it be in our power to repel the suspicion—should we despise it, we pay the penalty.
11:6
«We are not again commending ourselves unto you, but giving you occasion to glory on our behalf,»
11:7
Observe how continually he corrects the suspicion that he seems to be praising himself.
11:8
For nothing so offends the hearers as when someone speaks great and marvellous things about himself.
11:9
Since therefore he was compelled to fall into this subject in his discourse, he employs a corrective, saying that «This we do for your sakes, not for our own, that you may have wherewith to boast, not that we may;»
11:10
but because of the false apostles.
11:11
Wherefore also he added, «That you may have somewhat to answer those who glory in appearance, and not in heart.»
11:12
你看他如何使他們離開那些人,而將他們吸引到自己這邊,顯明哥林多人自己也切望得著某種機會,藉此他們能替他說話,並向那些控告他的人辯明?他說,我們說這些話,並不是為叫我們自己誇口,乃是為叫你們能坦然地替我們說話;
Do you see how he drew them away from those men and drew them to himself, showing that the Corinthians too long to receive some occasion whereby they may be able to speak on his behalf and to make a defence to those who accuse him? For it is not that we may boast, he says, that we say these things, but that you may be able to speak freely on our behalf;
11:13
這事本身對他們就是極大的憑據,證明有一份為他們作見證的愛;
which very thing is a great proof to them of a love that bears witness on their behalf;
11:14
and not merely that you may boast, but that you may not be swept away.
11:15
Yet he does not say this plainly in so many words, but manages his discourse otherwise and more gently, and without wounding those men, saying:
11:16
«That you may have wherewith to answer those who glory in appearance.»
11:17
但他也並非吩咐他們毫無緣由、無條件地連這事都去做,乃是只當那些人高抬自己的時候;
But neither does he bid them do even this without cause, unqualifiedly, but only when those men exalt themselves;
11:18
for everywhere he looks to the fitting occasion.
11:19
It is not, then, that he may show himself illustrious, but that he may put a stop to those men who use the matter absurdly and to the harm of these, that he does this.
11:20
But what does «in appearance» mean? In things that are seen, in things done for display.
11:21
For such were those men—doing everything for vainglory, and being empty within, having indeed a show of piety and appearing venerable, but standing destitute of good works.
11:22
«or whether we be sober-minded, it is for you.»
11:23
他說,我們若說出甚麼偉大的話(因為他把這稱為「顛狂」,正如他在別處稱之為「愚妄」),我們這樣做乃是為神的緣故,免得你們以為我們卑微無用,就藐視我們,以致滅亡;
If we utter anything great, he says (for he calls this «being beside ourselves,» just as elsewhere he calls it «foolishness»), we do this for God's sake, lest you, thinking us mean and worthless, should despise us and perish;
11:24
but if we say anything moderate and lowly, it is for your sakes, that you may learn to be humble-minded.
11:25
或者他又是指這意思:若有人以為我們是癲狂的,我們就向神索取賞賜,我們是為祂的緣故才在這些事上受人猜疑的;
Or again he means this: if anyone thinks us mad, we demand our reward from God, for whose sake we are thus suspected in these matters;
11:26
but if he holds us to be sober-minded, let him himself have the benefit of our sobriety.
11:27
Does someone say we are mad? For God's sake we are thus mad.
11:28
«For the love of God constraineth us, because we thus judge,»
11:29
For not only the fear of things to come, he says, but also the things already done do not permit us to be slothful nor to slumber, but rouse us up to labours on your behalf, and urge us on.
11:30
And what are the things already done? That «if one died for all, then all died.»
11:31
So then, as though all had perished, he says.
11:32
For unless all had died, He would not have died for all.
11:33
For here are the occasions of salvation, but there no longer.
11:34
For this cause he says, «The love of God constraineth us,» and does not suffer us to be at ease.
11:35
For it is the extreme of wretchedness, and more grievous than hell itself, that when He has displayed so great a thing, any should be found who, after such great providence of His, reap no fruit at all.
11:36
For great indeed is the surpassing measure of that love—both to die for so great a world, and, being so disposed toward it, to die.
11:37
«That they which live should no longer live unto themselves, but unto Him who died for them and rose again.»
11:38
If, then, we ought not to live unto ourselves, be not troubled, he says, neither be dismayed when dangers and deaths come upon us.
11:39
And he sets down also an indisputable reasoning, whereby he shows that the matter is a debt we owe.
11:40
For if we live through Him who died, we owe it to live unto Him through whom we live.
11:41
所說的這話看似是一件事,但若有人仔細察究,這其實是兩件事;
And what has been said seems to be one thing, but if one should examine it accurately, these are two;
11:42
一件是,我們是藉著祂而活;另一件是,祂為我們死;
one, that through Him we live; the other, that He died for us;
11:43
這其中的每一件,即或單獨而言,都足以使我們成為虧欠的人;
each of which, even by itself, is enough to make us debtors;
11:44
but when both come together, consider how great is the debt.
11:45
Nay rather, these are even three.
11:46
因為祂也為你的緣故使那初熟的果子復活,並將其帶入天上;
For He also raised up the firstfruits for your sake, and led it up into heaven;
11:47
wherefore also he added, «unto Him who died for us and rose again.»
11:48
«So that henceforth we know no man after the flesh.»
11:49
For if all died and all rose again—and died in such a way as the tyranny of sin condemned them, but rose again through the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Spirit—
11:50
with reason he says, «We know no one of the faithful after the flesh.»
11:51
For what though they are in the flesh? Yet that fleshly life has perished, and we have been born from above in the Spirit, and we know another manner of conduct and way of life and living and estate.
11:52
他又顯明基督自己乃是這事本身的元帥;
And again he shows that Christ Himself is the author of this very thing;
11:53
wherefore also he added, «Even though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now we know Him so no more.»
11:54
What then, tell me? Did He put off the flesh, and is He now no longer with the body? God forbid!
11:55
For even now He is in the flesh.
11:56
«For this same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, shall so come.»
11:57
How? In the flesh, with the body.
11:58
How then does he say, «Even though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now no more»? For with us the phrase «after the flesh» means to be in sins, and «not after the flesh» means not to be in sins.
11:59
但論到基督,「按著肉體」是指祂在本性的各種苦楚之中——例如在乾渴、在飢餓、在勞乏、在睡覺之中(因為「祂並沒有犯罪,口裡也沒有詭詐」);
But in Christ's case, «after the flesh» means to be in the natural sufferings—such as in thirsting, in hungering, in growing weary, in sleeping (for «He did no sin, neither was guile found in His mouth»);
11:60
wherefore also He said, «Which of you convicteth Me of sin?» and again, «The prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in Me.»
11:61
But «not after the flesh» means henceforth to be delivered even from these things—not to be outside the flesh.
11:62
因為祂正是帶著這肉身而來審判世界,那時這肉身已是不能受苦、不能朽壞的了;
For with this very flesh He comes to judge the world, having it now impassible and incorruptible;
11:63
into which state we too shall pass, our body being made conformed to the body of His glory.
11:64
So then, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.
11:65
For since he had exhorted them to virtue by way of love, he now leads them to this same end from the very facts themselves.
11:66
This is why he goes on to add, 'If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.'
11:67
他說,人若信了祂,就進入了另一種受造之境;
If anyone has believed in Him, he says, he has come into another creation;
11:68
for indeed he has been born again from above through the Spirit.
11:69
So then, for this reason too, he says, we are bound to live for Him—not only because we are not our own, nor only because He died for us, nor only because He raised up the firstfruits of our nature, but also because we have come into another life.
11:70
See how many just grounds he lays down for living rightly.
11:71
For this reason indeed he calls the amendment by a weightier name, that he may show how great is the removal and the transformation.
11:72
Then, going still further into what he has said, and showing in what way it is a new creation, he says, 'The old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.'
11:73
什麼舊事呢?他所指的或是我們的罪與不虔,或是猶太教的一切;
What old things? Either he means our sins and impieties, or all the things of Judaism;
11:74
or rather he means both these and those.
11:75
Behold, all things have become new.
11:76
Καὶ.
For indeed the remission of sins, and adoption as sons, and imperishable glory have been bestowed on us from Him.
11:77
For he no longer urges them on from the things to come alone, but also from things present.
11:78
他曾說我們將要復活,將要進入不朽壞,並要得著永遠的居所;
He had said that we are about to rise again, and to pass into incorruption, and to have an eternal dwelling;
11:79
but since, with those who do not believe these things as they ought to be believed, present things have greater power to persuade than things to come, he shows how much they have already received, and what manner of men they were.
11:80
Being what manner of men, then, did they receive? All dead ('For all,' he says, 'died, and He died for all;'
11:81
for thus He loved all alike), grown old and worn out, every one of them, in their evils.
11:82
But behold, a new soul as well (for it was cleansed), and a new body, and a new worship, and new promises, and a new covenant, and a new life, and a new table, and a new robe, and simply all things new.
11:83
For in place of the Jerusalem below we have received the mother-city above; in place of a perceptible temple we have beheld a spiritual temple; in place of tablets of stone, tablets of flesh; in place of circumcision, baptism; in place of the manna, the Lord's Body; in place of water from a rock, blood from His side; in place of the rod of Moses or of Aaron, the Cross; in place of the land of promise, the kingdom of heaven; in place of ten thousand priests, one High Priest; in place of an irrational lamb, a spiritual Lamb.
11:84
Reckoning these things and such as these, he said, 'All things are new.'
11:85
And all these things are from God, through Christ and His gift.
11:86
Who reconciled us to Himself through Christ, and gave to us the ministry of reconciliation.
11:87
For from this source come all good things.
11:88
For He who made us friends is Himself also the author of the other things which God gave to His friends.
11:89
For it was not while leaving us to remain enemies that He thus requited us, but after making us friends to Himself.
11:90
當我說基督是這和好之源時,我也是在說父;
And when I say that Christ is the author of the reconciliation, I mean the Father also;
11:91
when I say that the Father has given, I mean the Son also.
11:92
For all things came into being through Him.
11:93
For it was not we who ran to Him, but He Himself who called us.
11:94
How did He call us? Through the slaying of Christ.
11:95
And gave to us the ministry of reconciliation.
11:96
Here again he shows the dignity of the apostles, showing how great a matter was entrusted to them, and the surpassing greatness of the love of God.
11:97
For not even when they disregarded the ambassador who had come did He grow exasperated and abandon them, but He continues entreating both through Himself and through others.
11:98
誰能對這樣的眷顧驚歎得足夠呢?那真正的、獨生的兒子為和好而來,卻被殺了,父卻仍不因此轉離那些殺害祂的人;父也沒有說:「我差遣我的兒子作使者,他們不但不肯聽,反倒殺了祂、把祂釘了十字架;
Who could be sufficiently amazed at this tender care? The Son was slain when He came for reconciliation—the true and only-begotten One—and not even so did the Father turn away from those who had killed Him; nor did He say, 'I sent My Son to be an ambassador, and they not only refused to hear, but even killed and crucified Him;
11:99
it is fitting therefore to abandon them henceforth;'
11:100
but on the contrary, in every way, when He had departed, He entrusted the matter to us.
11:101
'For having given to us,' he says, 'the ministry of reconciliation.'
11:102
Namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not reckoning to them their trespasses.
11:103
Do you see a love that surpasses all speech, that surpasses all understanding? Who was the one insulted? He Himself.
11:104
Who was the first to come for reconciliation? He Himself.
11:105
And yet, one might say, 'He sent the Son; He did not come Himself.'
11:106
祂固然差遣了兒子,但懇求的不只是兒子;父也與祂一同、並藉著祂而懇求;
He did indeed send the Son, but it was not the Son alone who entreated; rather the Father also entreated, both with Him and through Him;
11:107
wherefore he said that God was the one who was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ.
11:108
That is to say, through Christ.
11:109
For since he had said, 'Who gave to us the ministry of reconciliation,' he employs a correction, saying:
11:110
你們不要以為我們是這事的主動者;
Do not suppose that we are the authors of the matter;
11:111
rather it is God who works the whole, He who reconciled the world through the Only-begotten.
11:112
And how did He reconcile it to Himself? For this is the marvel—not only that He became a friend, but that He became a friend in such a way.
11:113
怎麼說呢?就是藉著赦免他們的罪;
How? By forgiving them their sins;
11:114
wherefore also he added, 'Not reckoning to them their trespasses.'
11:115
因為,祂若情願追究我們過犯的帳,我們就都滅亡了;
For indeed, if He had willed to demand an accounting of our offences, we should all have perished;
11:116
然而,儘管我們的罪是那樣多,祂不但沒有施行刑罰,反倒與我們和好了;
yet nevertheless, though our sins were so many, not only did He not exact punishment, but He was even reconciled;
11:117
He not only forgave, but did not even reckon them.
11:118
So too must we forgive our enemies, that we ourselves also may obtain the same forgiveness.
11:119
And having placed in us the word of reconciliation.
11:120
For neither have we now come for any burdensome purpose, but that we may make all men friends to God.
11:121
'For since,' he says, 'they were not persuaded by me, do you continue entreating them until you persuade them.'
11:122
We are ambassadors therefore on behalf of Christ, as though God were entreating through us.
11:123
We beseech you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
11:124
Do you see how he exalted the matter, by bringing in Christ as the one making this supplication? Or rather, not Christ alone, but the Father also? For what he says is this:
11:125
The Father sent the Son to entreat and to act as ambassador to the nature of men on His own behalf.
11:126
Since therefore that One, having been slain, departed, we have succeeded to the embassy, and in His stead and in the Father's stead we entreat you.
11:127
人類的族類被看得如此寶貴,以致祂連自己的兒子也捨了——而且是明知祂必被殺——又為你們的緣故立我們作使徒;
At so high a price is the race of men esteemed, that He even gave up His Son—and this knowing that He would be slain—and made us apostles for your sakes;
11:128
so that with good reason he said, 'All things are for your sakes.'
11:129
We are ambassadors therefore on behalf of Christ.
11:130
這就是說,代替基督;
That is to say, in Christ's stead;
11:131
for we have taken up His concerns.
11:132
But if this seems to you to be a great thing, hear also what follows, whereby he shows that they do this not only in His stead, but also in the Father's stead.
11:133
For it was because of this that he added, 'As though God were entreating through us.'
11:134
For not through His Son alone does He entreat, but also through us who have taken up that same work of His.
11:135
'Therefore do not think,' he says, 'that you are being counted worthy only by us.'
11:136
Christ Himself entreats you; the very Father of Christ entreats you through us.
11:137
What could be equal to this surpassing greatness? For He Himself, who had conferred countless benefits and yet was outraged, not only did not exact a penalty, but even gave His own Son, that we might be reconciled.
11:138
Those who received Him were not reconciled, but even slew Him.
11:139
And even when these had been sent and treated thus, it is He who still counts us worthy.
11:140
And what does He count us worthy of? 'Be reconciled to God.'
11:141
他並沒有說:「你們要使神與你們和好」;
And he did not say, 'Reconcile God to yourselves';
11:142
因為懷有仇恨的並不是祂,乃是你們;
for it is not He who bears enmity, but you;
11:143
for God never bears enmity.
11:144
And pleading His cause, as though sent as an ambassador, he says, 'For Him who knew no sin He made to be sin on our behalf.'
11:145
我不提從前的事——就是你們侮辱了祂,侮辱了那毫無不義、反施恩惠的一位,而祂並沒有追討刑罰;祂雖先受侮辱,卻先來勸勉;
I do not speak of what came before—that you outraged Him, that you did so to One who had done no wrong, to One who had conferred benefits, that He did not exact a penalty, that He is the first to entreat, though the first to be outraged;
11:146
let none of those things be reckoned for the present.
11:147
For this reason alone, would you not be justly bound to be reconciled, for what He has now done toward you? And what has He done? 'For Him who knew no sin He made to be sin for your sake.'
11:148
For even if He had accomplished nothing else but had wrought this alone, consider how great a thing it was to give up His Son on behalf of those who had outraged Him.
11:149
But as it is, He both achieved great things, and along with these He allowed Him who had done no wrong to be punished on behalf of those who had done wrong.
11:150
Yet he did not say this, but set down what is far greater than this.
11:151
這究竟是甚麼呢?他說:「祂使那不知罪的,那本是義的本身的一位,成為罪」;
What then is this? 'Him who knew no sin,' he says, 'who was righteousness itself, He made to be sin';
11:152
就是說,祂容讓祂如同罪人般被定罪,如同被咒詛的人般死去;
that is, He suffered Him to be condemned as a sinner, to die as one accursed;
11:153
for 'Cursed is everyone who hangs upon a tree.'
11:154
因為這樣死去,比單單死去乃是更大得多的事;
For to die in this manner was far greater a thing than merely to die;
11:155
which also, hinting at it elsewhere, he says, 'Having become obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.'
11:156
For the deed carried with it not punishment alone, but also shame.
11:157
Consider, therefore, how much He has granted you.
11:158
因為即便是一個罪人,為著任何人而死,也已是大事;
For it is a great thing even for a sinner to die on behalf of anyone at all;
11:159
but when He who suffers this is also righteous, and dies on behalf of sinners, and not only dies but dies as one accursed, and not only as one accursed but thereupon freely bestows on us great good things which we never expected ('For that we might become the righteousness of God in Him,' he says)—what speech, what mind will be able to set these things forth? 'For He made the righteous One,' he says, 'to be a sinner, that He might make the sinners righteous.'
11:160
其實他連這樣也沒有說,反而說了遠更大的事;
Rather, he did not even say it thus, but what was far greater;
11:161
for he did not set down a habit, but the quality itself.
11:162
因為他沒有說「祂使祂成為罪人」,乃說「成為罪」;
For he did not say, 'He made Him a sinner,' but 'sin';
11:163
not 'Him who had not sinned' merely, but 'Him who did not even know sin.'
11:164
that we too might become—he did not say 'righteous,' but 'righteousness,' and 'the righteousness of God.'
11:165
For this is God's own righteousness, when we are justified not by works, when no stain whatever need be found in us, but from grace, where every sin is done away.
11:166
And this at once both does not permit us to be lifted up, since God bestowed the whole as a gift, and teaches us the greatness of what was given.
11:167
For that former righteousness was of the Law and of works, but this is the righteousness of God.
11:168
Considering these things, then, let us fear these words more than hell, let us revere the realities of the kingdom more than any punishment, and let us reckon that the grievous thing is not to be punished, but to sin.
11:169
For indeed, even if He did not punish us, we ourselves would have to exact a penalty of ourselves, for having become so ungrateful toward our Benefactor.
11:170
然而如今,一個人若有所愛的對象,往往在得不著所愛時,甚至把自己殺了;
But as it is, a man who has a beloved has often even slain himself when he failed to obtain his love;
11:171
縱然得著了,若得罪了她,也不以為自己配活著;
and even when he has obtained her, if he has offended against her, he does not think himself worthy even to live;
11:172
我們竟向這樣愛人、這樣溫良的一位如此放肆——我們豈不是把自己投入地獄的火中麼?讓我說一件奇特而希奇、在許多人看來或許難信的事;
yet toward Him who is thus loving to mankind and gentle we behave outrageously—shall we not be casting ourselves into the fire of hell? Let me say something paradoxical and marvelous, and perhaps to many incredible;
11:173
there will be greater consolation for one who is being punished after having provoked Him who is so loving to mankind—if he has understanding, and loves the Master as one ought to love—than for one who is not being punished.
11:174
And this one may see even from common experience.
11:175
因為那得罪了至親好友的人,正是在他向自己追討刑罰、甘受苦楚時,才最得安息;
For he who has wronged a dearest friend then most of all finds rest, when he exacts a penalty of himself and suffers ill;
11:176
just as David also said, 'I the shepherd have sinned, and I the shepherd have done wickedly;'
11:177
'but these, the flock, what have they done? Let Your hand be against the house of my father.'
11:178
當他喪失押沙龍時,他向自己追討了極重的刑罰;
And when he had lost Absalom, he exacted of himself the utmost penalty;
11:179
其實行不義的並不是他,乃是那受了不義之待遇的他;
and yet it was not he who had done the wrong, but he who had been wronged;
11:180
but nevertheless, since he loved exceedingly the one who had departed, he racked himself with anguish, thereby consoling himself.
11:181
Let us, therefore, when we sin against Him against whom we ought not to sin, exact a penalty of ourselves.
11:182
Do you not see those who have lost their own true-born children, that for this reason they beat themselves and tear their hair, since it brings consolation to chastise oneself on behalf of those one loves? But if, when we ourselves have done our dearest ones no harm, it brings us consolation to suffer ill on behalf of those who have suffered ill,
11:183
when we ourselves are the ones who have provoked and outraged Him, shall not the paying of a penalty give us far greater rest than the not-being-punished is a punishment? To everyone, I think, it is plain.
11:184
凡按著當愛的樣式愛基督的人,都知道我所說的,就是他即使在基督親自准許之下,也不肯忍受不受刑罰;
If anyone loves Christ as one ought to love, he knows what I mean, how he will not endure to go unpunished even when Christ Himself allows it;
11:185
for you undergo the greatest punishment in having provoked Him.
11:186
And I know indeed that to the many I am speaking things incredible, yet nonetheless it is even as I have said.
11:187
If, therefore, we love Christ as one ought to love, we shall punish ourselves when we sin.
11:188
For to those who love anyone whatsoever, the distressing thing is not to suffer some ill on account of that for which they provoked their beloved, but the very provoking of the one they love, above all else.
11:189
這所愛的人若動怒卻不加刑罰,反倒更加折磨那愛他的人;
And if this one, being angered, does not punish, he has tormented his lover the more;
11:190
but if he exacts a penalty, he has rather consoled him.
11:191
所以我們不要懼怕地獄,乃要懼怕得罪神;
Let us not, therefore, fear hell, but the offending of God;
11:192
因為當祂發怒轉臉不顧時,這比那更為可怕;
for this is more grievous than that, when He turns away in anger;
11:193
this is worse than all things, this is more oppressive than all.
11:194
And that you may learn how great it is, consider this which I say.
11:195
假設有人——他本是君王——看見一個作強盜、作惡的人受刑罰,就交出自己所愛的、獨生的、親生的兒子被殺,並且連同這死,把罪咎從那人身上轉到那本無此罪的兒子身上,為要既拯救那被定罪的人,又洗除他那惡名;此後又高舉他到大位上,在得救並得著那說不出的榮耀之後,卻反被那受了如此恩待的人所侮辱;
If someone, seeing a man—a robber and a malefactor—being punished, being himself a king, gave up his beloved, only-begotten, and true-born son to be slain, and along with the death transferred also the guilt from that man onto the son who was not such, in order both to save the condemned and to free him from his wicked repute, and then afterward, having raised him to great office, after the salvation and the unutterable glory, was outraged by the very one who had received such things;
11:196
那人若有點見識,豈不寧願死一萬次,也不願落得如此忘恩負義的罪責麼?如今我們也當這樣思量,並為我們激怒施恩者的事痛苦地哀歎;
would not that man, if he had any sense, have chosen to die ten thousand times rather than be found liable to such great ingratitude? This, then, let us reckon even now, and let us groan bitterly over the things wherein we have provoked our Benefactor;
11:197
nor, because He long-sufferingly bears our outrages, let us on that account grow bold, but for that very reason let us be pierced with remorse.
11:198
因為即便在人的事上,一個人若被打了右臉,連左臉也轉過來由人打,他所報復的,反比他打了一萬下更甚;
For even in the case of men, when someone, having been struck on the right cheek, gives also the left, he avenges himself the more than if he had dealt ten thousand blows;
11:199
and when, having been reviled, he not only does not revile in return but even blesses, he has struck the harder blow than if he had washed the other with ten thousand reproaches.
11:200
但若在人的事上,我們侮辱人卻蒙他們的恆忍,我們尚且覺得羞愧;
But if, in the case of men, when we outrage them and enjoy their long-suffering, we are put to shame;
11:201
何況在神的事上,那些不斷犯罪卻不受任何苦楚的人,就更當懼怕;
much more, in the case of God, ought those who continually sin and suffer no ill to be afraid;
11:202
for indeed, to the harm of their own head, an unspeakable retribution is being stored up for them.
11:203
所以我們既思想這些事,就當首先懼怕罪;
Considering these things, then, above all let us fear sin;
11:204
For this is punishment, this is hell, this is the ten thousand evils.
11:205
我們不但要懼怕,更要逃避,並要恆常竭力討神的喜悅;
Let us not merely be afraid, but let us also flee, and let us be diligent to please God continually;
11:206
for this is the kingdom, this is life, this is the ten thousand good things.
11:207
這樣,即使從今生開始,我們便已得著國度,也得著那將來的美善;
Thus even from this present life we shall already attain the kingdom, and the good things to come;
11:208
which may it be granted to us all to attain, by the grace and love toward mankind of our Lord Jesus Christ, with whom to the Father together with the Holy Spirit be glory, dominion, and honour, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
