And you, who once were enemies and alienated in your mind by wicked works, yet now has He reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy and blameless and unreprovable in His sight.
4:2
Here, then, he shows that even while we were unworthy of reconciliation, He reconciled us.
4:3
For to say that they were under the power of darkness shows the calamity in which they were.
4:4
But lest, hearing 'the power of darkness,' you should think there was some compulsion, he adds:
4:5
「你們這與祂隔絕的人」;
'And you who were alienated;'
4:6
如此看來,他似乎是在說同一件事,其實不然;
so that he seems indeed to say the same thing, but he does not;
4:7
for it is not the same thing to deliver from evils one who has suffered ill by compulsion and one who has endured this willingly.
4:8
For the former is worthy of pity, but the latter of hatred.
4:9
Not those who were unwilling, nor those constrained, but those who willingly and of their own desire leaped away from Him, and were unworthy—these He delivered.
4:10
And since he made mention of the things in heaven, he shows that all the enmity had its beginning from here below, not from above.
4:11
For those above of old had willed it, and so had God.
4:12
And throughout he shows that the angels availed nothing in the times below, if indeed men remained enemies, and were able neither to persuade them, nor, once persuaded, to deliver them from the devil.
4:13
因為若那擄掠人的沒有被捆綁,就是勸服了也毫無益處;
For neither did persuasion bring any gain, if he that held them captive were not bound;
4:14
nor did the binding bring any gain, if those held captive were not willing to return.
4:15
But both were needful; of which they accomplished neither, but Christ accomplished both.
4:16
So that to persuade was more wonderful than to loose death.
4:17
因為後者全在祂手中,惟有祂是它的主宰;
For the latter was wholly His, and He alone was Lord of it;
4:18
但前者的主權卻不單在祂,也在我們;
but of the former He was not alone the master, but we also;
4:19
and we more easily accomplish those things of which we ourselves are masters.
4:20
Accordingly, since it was the greater, he sets it down afterward.
4:21
他並非只說「與祂為敵」,乃說「與祂隔絕」,這乃是極大仇恨的表現;
And he did not simply say, 'being at enmity,' but 'alienated,' which belongs to great enmity;
4:22
nor merely 'estranged,' but not even expecting to return.
4:23
他又說「在心思上與祂為敵」,藉此顯明他們的隔絕不只是在意念上;
And 'enemies,' he says, 'in your mind,' showing by this that their alienation was not only in their purpose;
4:24
but what then? 'And in your wicked works.'
4:25
'And you were enemies,' he says, 'and you did the deeds of enemies.'
4:26
'But now has He reconciled you in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy and blameless and unreprovable before Him.'
4:27
Here he sets down also the manner of the reconciliation—that it was in the body, and that not merely by being smitten, nor scourged, nor sold, but even by dying the most shameful death.
4:28
Again he makes mention of the cross, and again he sets down another benefit.
4:29
For He not only delivered us, but also, as he said above, 'made us meet'; and this too he here hints at.
4:30
'Through His death,' he says, 'to present you holy and blameless and unreprovable before Him.'
4:31
For He not only delivered us from our sins, but also set us among those who are well approved.
4:32
因為祂受了這許多的苦,不單是要救我們脫離諸惡,也是要叫我們得著那至高的美善;
For He suffered so many things not only that He might deliver us from evils, but that we might also attain the chief good things;
4:33
just as if one should not only free a condemned criminal from his punishment, but also raise him up to honor.
4:34
祂又把我們列在那些從未犯罪的人中間;
And He ranked us among those who had committed no sin;
4:35
或說得更準確些,不只是列在那些未曾犯罪的人中間,更是列在那些成就了最大之事的人中間;
or rather, not only among those who had not sinned, but even among those who had achieved the greatest things;
4:36
and what is even greater, that He gave us holiness which is in His sight.
4:37
而「無可指摘」乃是「無瑕疵」的加強;
And 'unreprovable' is an intensification of 'blameless';
4:38
for a man is then called unreprovable, when nothing has been done by us that reaches even to condemnation, nor even to accusation.
4:39
But since he had set down the whole of it, saying that He accomplished these things through His death, lest anyone should say, 'Then we have need of nothing,' he therefore added:
4:40
'If indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the Gospel.'
4:41
Here he checks their indolence.
4:42
他也並非只說「要持守」;
And he did not simply say, 'Continue';
4:43
因為人可以一面持守,一面又動搖分裂;
for it is possible to continue while being shaken and divided;
4:44
it is possible to stand and abide while being carried about.
4:45
'If indeed you continue,' he says, 'grounded and steadfast, and not moved away.'
4:46
Astonishing! How great a turn of phrase he has used!
4:47
'not only not being shaken,' he says, 'but not even moved.'
4:48
For the present he lays down nothing burdensome nor toilsome, but faith and hope.
4:49
That is to say, if you remain believing that the hope of things to come is true.
4:50
然而在德行的事上,人卻不可能絲毫不受動搖,哪怕只是一點點;
But in the matter of virtue it is not possible to escape being shaken, even a little;
4:51
'from the hope,' he says, 'of the Gospel, which you heard, which was preached in all creation under heaven.'
4:52
And what is the hope of the Gospel, but Christ? For He Himself is our peace, and He it is who has wrought all these things.
4:53
如此,凡把這些事歸於別人的,就是被挪動了;
So that he who ascribes these things to others has been moved away;
4:54
for he has lost everything, unless he believes in Christ.
4:55
Again he brings them forward as witnesses, then the whole world.
4:56
不僅是正在被傳揚,乃是已經被人相信、被人宣揚了;
not merely being preached, but already believed and proclaimed;
4:57
which very thing he did also at the beginning, wishing to establish these also from the testimony of the many.
4:58
'of which I Paul became a minister.'
4:59
And this too contributes to its being worthy of belief.
4:60
'I,' he says, 'Paul, a minister.'
4:61
For great by this time was his dignity, since he was celebrated everywhere and was the teacher of the whole world.
4:62
'Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and fill up on my part that which is lacking of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for His body's sake, which is the Church.'
4:63
And what is the connection here? It seems to be disjointed, yet it has a close connection.
4:64
That is to say: 'Bringing in nothing of my own, but proclaiming the things of Another.'
4:65
我既如此相信,也就為祂的緣故受苦;
And thus I believe, so that I also suffer for His sake;
4:66
我不僅受苦,更且在受苦中歡喜,因為我仰望那將來的盼望;
and I do not merely suffer, but even rejoice in suffering, looking toward the hope that is to come;
4:67
and I suffer not for my own sake, but for your sake.
4:68
'And I fill up,' he says, 'that which is lacking of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh.'
4:69
他所說的話似乎是了不得的大事,卻絕非出於狂傲—斷乎不是—反倒是出於對基督極深的摯愛;
What he has uttered seems to be a great thing, yet it is not of arrogance—God forbid—but rather of great tender affection toward Christ;
4:70
for he does not wish the sufferings to be his own, but Christ's.
4:71
And he spoke thus, wishing to bind these people closely to Him.
4:72
他說:「我所受的苦,乃是為祂的緣故受的;
'And what I suffer,' he says, 'I suffer on His account;
4:73
so that you should render thanks not to me, but to Him.'
4:74
Just as if someone, having been sent to another, should make a request of a third person, saying:
4:75
'I beseech you, go on my behalf to so-and-so';
4:76
and then that one should say, 'For this man's sake I do these things.'
4:77
So then he is not ashamed even to call these his own sufferings.
4:78
For not only did He die for us, but even after dying He is ready to be afflicted for our sake.
4:79
他熱切地力求證明,基督如今仍藉著自己的身體,為著教會冒著危難;他把這話引向這個目的,就是:「你們得以親近,不是藉著我們,乃是藉著祂,縱然作這些事的是我們;
He was earnest and strove to show that Christ is even now imperiled for the sake of the Church through His own body; and he directs it to this end, that 'You are not brought near through us, but through Him, even though it is we who do these things;
4:80
for we did not take upon ourselves a work of our own, but His.'
4:81
And it is the same as if some rank of soldiers, having obtained as their general the one who shields them, should stand firm in the war; then, when he had departed, the lieutenant should take upon himself that general's wounds until the war were brought to an end.
4:82
Then, that he also does these things for His sake, hear:
4:83
他說:「為祂身體的緣故」;
'For the sake of His body,' he says;
4:84
他要說的是這意思:「我並非施恩於你們,乃是施恩於基督;
wishing to say this, that 'I do not do you a favor, but Christ;
4:85
for the things which He ought to have suffered, these I suffer in His stead.'
4:86
他顯明了何等深厚的愛;
He shows the greatness of his love;
4:87
正如他在哥林多後書中所寫的說:「祂把那和好的職分賜給我們」;
just as, writing in the Second Epistle to the Corinthians, he said, 'In us He has placed the ministry of reconciliation';
4:88
又說:「我們替基督作使者,就好像神藉我們勸你們一般」;
and again, 'We are ambassadors on behalf of Christ, as though God were entreating through us';
4:89
this also he says here, 'For His sake I suffer,' that he may the more draw them to himself.
4:90
That is to say: 'Even if He who was your debtor has departed, yet I make the repayment.'
4:91
For on this account he said 'that which is lacking,' that he might show that he does not yet consider himself to have suffered the whole.
4:92
'For your sake,' he says, 'He suffers even after death, if indeed anything still remained lacking.'
4:93
This he does otherwise in the Epistle to the Romans, saying:
4:94
「祂也替我們代求」;
'Who also intercedes for us';
4:95
showing that He was not content with death alone, but even after this does ten thousand things.
4:96
It is not, then, to exalt himself that he says these things, but wishing to show that Christ even now, still, cares for them.
4:97
And he shows the word to be worthy of credit by adding, 'For the sake of His body.'
4:98
For that it is so, and nothing improbable, is plain from the fact that these things come to pass for the sake of His body.
4:99
See how he has joined us to himself.
4:100
Why then do you bring in angels in the midst? 'Of which,' he says, 'I became a minister.'
4:101
Why do you bring in other angels? I am a minister.
4:102
Then he shows that he himself did nothing, if indeed he is a minister.
4:103
'Of which,' he says, 'I became a minister according to the stewardship of God which was given to me toward you, to fulfill the word of God'—a stewardship.
4:104
Either he means this: that 'Thus He willed, when He had departed, that we
4:105
接續這管家的職分,免得你們像被撇棄的一般;
should succeed to the stewardship, that you might not be disposed as though forsaken;
4:106
因為受苦的正是祂,代求的也正是祂」;
for He is the very one who suffered, He the one who intercedes';
4:107
或是這意思:「我這在眾人中最厲害的逼迫者,祂所以容讓我去逼迫,正是要使我傳道時可被人信服」;
or he means this: that 'Me, who was above all men a persecutor, He therefore permitted to persecute, that I might be worthy of credit when I preach';
4:108
or he calls it a 'stewardship' in the sense that 'He sought not works, nor deeds, nor achievements, but faith and baptism.'
4:109
For otherwise you would not have received the word.
4:110
'Toward you,' he says, 'to fulfill the word of God.'
4:111
He speaks concerning the Gentiles, showing them to be still wavering, by saying 'to fulfill.'
4:112
因為那被撇棄的外邦人竟能領受如此崇高的教義,這並非保羅的功勞,乃是神的管家職分所成;
For that the Gentiles, cast off as they were, should be able to receive so great a height of doctrines, was not Paul's doing, but of the stewardship of God;
4:113
'Since I,' he says, 'should not have been able.'
4:114
Having shown the greater thing, that His sufferings are Christ's own, then he adds the plainer point, that 'This too is of God, namely to fulfill the word toward you.'
4:115
And he shows here, [not] openly, that 'This too is of the stewardship, namely that it is now said that you are able to hear, and this not out of negligence, but so that you might become receptive.'
4:116
For God does not do all things at once, but employs condescension because of His great love for mankind.
4:117
And this is the reason that Christ came now, and not long ago.
4:118
Thus also He shows in the Gospel that on this account He sent the servants first, that they might not come to the murder of the Son.
4:119
因為他們連那在眾僕人之後才來的兒子尚且不尊敬,何況在此之先呢;
For if they did not reverence the Son even when He came after the servants, much more would they not have done so before this;
4:120
if they did not hearken to the lesser commands, how would they have hearkened to the greater? What then does he say? Are there not Jews even now, and Greeks in a more imperfect condition? This henceforth is an excess of sloth.
4:121
For to remain still imperfect after so long a time, after so many teachings, is a mark of great dullness.
4:122
Whenever therefore the Greeks say, 'Why did Christ come now?' let us not permit them to say this, but, if He did not accomplish His work, let us question them.
4:123
因為正如祂即便在起初就來、卻未成就其工,那時機也不足以作我們的辯護;
For just as, even if He had come at the beginning and had not accomplished it, the time would not have sufficed us for a defense;
4:124
so, since He did accomplish it, we would not be just in demanding an accounting of the time.
4:125
For no one demands of a physician who has dispelled the disease and brought one back to health an accounting of the healing, nor does anyone examine a victorious general as to why at this time and why in this place.
4:126
因為這些原是他若未成功時才該問的;
For these were things to ask had he not been successful;
4:127
but when he has succeeded, one should even give him thanks.
4:128
請告訴我,究竟哪一樣更可信—是你的推理與誣蔑,還是那事情本身的完滿?祂到底得勝了沒有?把這個指出來;
For who, tell me, is more worthy of credit—your reasoning and slander, or the perfection of the deed itself? Did He conquer, or did He not conquer? Show this;
4:129
did He prevail, or did He not prevail? Did He bring to a conclusion the things which He said, or not? These are the accountings.
4:130
Tell me now: you surely confess that God exists, even if not Christ? I ask you then:
4:131
is God without beginning? You will certainly say so.
4:132
Tell me now: why did He not make mankind ten thousand years earlier? For they would have lived a longer time.
4:133
For if to exist is good, much more is it good to exist yet more fully.
4:134
But were they then wronged for the time in which they did not yet come to be? No, they were not wronged.
4:135
As to how this is so, He who made them knows it Himself.
4:136
Again I ask you: why did He not make all men at once, but the soul of such a one, who came into being first, has existed for so many years, while another that has not yet come to be is thereby diminished? Why did He make the one first and the other later, to be brought forth into this world? Such questions are indeed worthy of inquiry, but not of idle meddling.
4:137
But I will state the reason which I have already mentioned.
4:138
For suppose with me that human nature is like a single lifetime, and that our race in its earliest ages held the rank of a boy, in the times after that of a young man, and these ages near to old age that of an elder.
4:139
Consequently, when the soul is at its prime, and the members of the body are relaxed, and the warfare is stilled, then were we led on to the pursuit of wisdom.
4:140
And yet the very opposite happens, someone says.
4:141
While they are but boys we teach them, but not the great doctrines; rather rhetoric and cleverness of speech.
4:142
These greater things, then, we teach when they come to their prime.
4:143
Observe too that God did these very things in the case of the Jews.
4:144
For just as to children, so to the Jews He set Moses over them as a teacher of letters; and as with little children, so did he lead them up, sketching things in outline, just as we do with the elements of the alphabet.
4:145
For the Law had a shadow of the good things to come, not the very image of the realities.
4:146
所以正如我們為幼小的孩子買糕餅、給他們銀錢,只向他們索求一件事,就是眼下要他們去上學堂;
Just as we, then, for our little children buy cakes and give them coins, requiring one thing only of them in return, that for the present they go off to school;
4:147
so too God then gave both wealth and luxury, purchasing from them one thing only, through His great indulgence, namely, that they should give heed to Moses.
4:148
For this reason He handed them over to a teacher, that they might not despise Him, but might cling to him as to an affectionate father.
4:149
For observe how they feared him alone.
4:150
For they did not say, Where is God? but, Where is Moses? and merely by being present he was awe-inspiring.
4:151
At any rate, when they did wickedly, see how he chastened them.
4:152
因為神確實有意棄絕他們,他卻不容許這事;
For God indeed wished to disown them, but he would not permit it;
4:153
or rather, the whole thing was God's doing, as of a father threatening, while the other, as it were a teacher, interceded for him and said, Forgive them for my sake, and from now on I take charge of them.
4:154
Thus the wilderness became a schoolroom.
4:155
And just as children who have lingered long at their studies wish to withdraw,
4:156
so too those people at that time were continually longing for Egypt, and wept, saying:
4:157
We are lost, we are utterly consumed, we have perished!
4:158
摩西又摔碎了他們的石版,那石版上他曾為他們寫下,彷彿是某些字母;
And Moses shattered their tablet, on which he had written for them, as it were, certain letters of the alphabet;
4:159
他所行的正如一位教師也會行的:拿起寫字板,見上面寫得潦草,便把那寫字板扔了下去,要顯明他極大的不悅;
doing the very thing that a teacher too would do, who, taking up the writing-tablet and seeing it badly written, throws down the very tablet, wishing to show his great displeasure;
4:160
and even if he breaks it, the father is not angry.
4:161
因為他自己專心致志地在書寫;
For he himself was intent on writing;
4:162
他們卻不望向他,反倒轉臉朝向別處,行為放縱不羈;
but they, not looking to him but turned elsewhere, were behaving unruly;
4:163
and just as in the schoolroom the boys strike one another, so too at that time He commanded them to strike and slay one another.
4:164
And again, as one who gives lessons and then demands them back, and, not finding them learned, punishes,
4:165
the things done in Egypt were letters that made known the power of God.
4:166
But these letters made plain the plagues, and that He chastises His enemies, and it was for them an exact schoolroom.
4:167
因為那對仇敵的懲罰,豈不正是你們的益處嗎?並且祂還以另一種方式施恩於你們;
For what else was the punishment of the enemies but your benefit? And in another way too He was benefiting you;
4:168
and it came to the same as if someone should claim to know the elements of the alphabet, but, being questioned about them at random, could not find the answer, and were beaten.
4:169
那些人也照樣,口裡確說認識神的大能,然而當人隨機向他們索問那知識時,他們卻拿不出來;
So too those people said indeed that they knew the power of God, but when the knowledge was demanded of them at random, they could not produce it;
4:170
Have you seen water? You ought to be reminded of the water in Egypt.
4:171
因為那使水變血的主,也必能行這事;
For He who made blood out of water will be able to do this also;
4:172
just as we too often say to our little children:
4:173
When you see in the book the letter alpha, remember that you had it on your tablet.
4:174
Have you seen famine? Remember that it was He who destroyed the crops.
4:175
Have you seen wars? Remember the drowning in the sea.
4:176
Have you seen that they who inhabit the land are mighty? But they are not mightier than the Egyptians.
4:177
那麼,那位把你從他們當中領出來的主,如今你既在外面,祂豈不更要拯救你嗎?只是他們不懂得如何被隨機抽問這些字母;
Then He who took you from their very midst, would He not much more save you now that you are outside? But they did not know how to be questioned on the elements at random;
4:178
They ate and drank, and kicked back in rebellion.
4:179
They ought not to have sought luxury in the manna, having learned the evil that comes from it.
4:180
And they did the very same thing as if a freeborn boy, sent to school, should seek to be classed with the slaves and to wait upon them, and, though he receives the necessary and fitting food of a free man and sits at his father's table, should wish to enjoy the servants' foul and turmoil-filled fare.
4:181
So too these people longed for Egypt, and said to Moses, Yes, Lord, all that you say we will do and we will hearken.
4:182
And what happens in the case of exceedingly incorrigible children, when the father wishes to destroy them and the teacher
4:183
continually intercedes, this too was what happened at that time.
4:184
Why, then, have these things been said by us? Because we differ in no way from children.
4:185
Do you wish to hear their doctrines too, how childish they are? An eye for an eye, He says, and a tooth for a tooth.
4:186
For nothing is so bent on retaliation as a childish mind.
4:187
因為既然這情慾出於無理性,而在那年紀無理性甚多、理智又極其貧乏,孩子自然就被怒氣所轄制;
For since this passion belongs to unreason, and unreason is great, and great is the barrenness of reason at that age, the child is naturally tyrannized over by anger;
4:188
and so great is the tyranny of anger, that often when a child has stumbled and picked himself up, in his vexation he either strikes his knee or overturns the footstool, and thus relieves his pain and quenches his wrath.
4:189
Something of this kind God also did, granting an eye to be plucked out for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth, and destroying the Egyptians and the Amalekites who had grieved them.
4:190
And He makes such promises as one might say:
4:191
「父啊,某人打了我;
Father, so-and-so struck me;
4:192
so-and-so is a bad man, and let us hate him.
4:193
So too God says, To those who are hostile to you I will be hostile, and those who hate you I will hate.
4:194
And again, when Balaam was pronouncing his curses, the condescension shown to them was of a childlike sort.
4:195
因為正如在孩子的情形中,當他們看見某樣其實不可怕之物,例如一團羊毛或別的類似東西時,會突然驚恐起來;
For just as in the case of children, when they see something not really fearful, such as a tuft of wool or some other such thing, they are suddenly frightened;
4:196
為使那懼怕不至留存在他們裡面,我們便把那物放到他們手下,又叫乳母指給他們看;
and so that the fear may not remain in them, we bring it under their hands and get the nurses to point it out to them;
4:197
so too God did.
4:198
For since the seer was fearful, He turned their fear into confidence.
4:199
並且正如那些正在斷奶的孩子,籃子裡樣樣都備齊;
And just as children who are being weaned have everything in their little baskets;
4:200
so too He gave them everything, and supplied abundant luxury.
4:201
然而那孩子仍舊尋找乳頭;
But the child still seeks the breast;
4:202
so too these people sought Egypt, and the meat there.
4:203
因此,若有人稱摩西為教師、為乳養者、又為訓蒙的師傅,也不算錯;
So that one would not err in calling Moses both a teacher, a nurse, and a tutor;
4:204
for great was the wisdom of the man.
4:205
But it is not the same thing to guide men already able to pursue wisdom, and to rule over irrational children.
4:206
And, if you are willing to hear yet another example, it is just as the nurse says to the little child:
4:207
「當你如廁時,把衣裳撩起來」,坐下時也照樣如此;
'When you relieve yourself, lift up your garments,' and again the same when you sit down;
4:208
And just as in children all the passions play the tyrant (for they do not yet possess the charioteer to rein them in)—vainglory, desire, unreason, wrath, envy—
4:209
照樣,在猶太人中間,這一切也都居於支配的地位;
so also among the Jews all these things held sway;
4:210
they spat upon Moses, they struck him.
4:211
又正如小孩子拾起石頭,我們眾人都喊叫起來;
And just as a little child picks up a stone, and we all cry out;
4:212
so also did they take up stones against their father, but he fled.
4:213
又正如,倘若父親有件飾物,那愛慕華飾的小孩便向他討要;
And just as, if the father should have some ornament, the little child, being fond of finery, begs it from him;
4:214
so indeed did the followers of Dathan and Abiram act, rising up in rebellion against the priesthood.
4:215
And they were of all men the most envious, and faint-hearted, and in every respect imperfect.
4:216
請告訴我,難道那時就是基督當顯現的時候嗎?難道那時就當頒賜這些屬於哲理的訓誡嗎——當他們為慾望所狂、如發情的公馬、作錢財的奴僕、作肚腹的奴僕之時?不然,祂若對那些愚昧無知的人講論,就是白白傾倒了智慧的教訓;
Was it then, tell me, that Christ ought to have appeared? Was it then that these philosophic ordinances should have been given—when they were mad with desire, when they were like stallions frenzied for the mare, when they were slaves of money, slaves of the belly? Nay, He would have poured out the teachings of true wisdom in vain, conversing with those who were senseless;
4:217
and they would have learned neither these things nor those.
4:218
And just as one who tries to teach reading before the letters will never even teach the letters themselves, so also would it have been then.
4:219
But by the grace of God great is the forbearance, and great the virtue, that has been planted everywhere.
4:220
Let us therefore give thanks for all things, and not be over-curious.
4:221
For it is not we who know the fitting season, but He who is the Maker of the season and the Creator of the ages.
4:222
因此,讓我們把一切都讓與祂;
Let us then yield all things to Him;
4:223
for this is to glorify God—not to demand of Him an accounting for the things He does.
4:224
Thus also Abraham gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that what He had promised He was able also to perform.
4:225
那人連將來的事也不曾詢問;
That man did not even ask about what was to come;
4:226
but we scrutinize even the account of things already past.
4:227
See how great is the folly, how great the ingratitude!
4:228
這不但毫無益處,反倒大有損害;
there is no gain, but rather great harm;
4:229
and let us be graciously disposed toward our Master, and send up glory to God, that, offering up thanksgiving for all things, we may be counted worthy of His loving-kindness—by the grace and loving-kindness of our Lord Jesus Christ, with whom to the Father, together with the Holy Spirit, be glory, might, and honor, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages.
