20:1
ἔστιν ἔλεγχος ὃς οὐκ ἔστιν ὡραῖος καὶ ἔστιν σιωπῶν καὶ αὐτὸς φρόνιμος
有一種責備不合時宜;也有人保持緘默,反顯為智慧。
There is a reproof that is not comely; And there is a man that keeps silence, and he is wise.
20:2
ὡς καλὸν ἐλέγξαι ἢ θυμοῦσθαι
責備總比動怒好。
How good is it to reprove, rather than to be angry; And he that makes confession will be kept back from hurt.
20:3
καὶ ὁ ἀνθομολογούμενος ἀπὸ ἐλαττώσεως κωλυθήσεται
承認過錯的人必免於受害。
And he who acknowledges his fault before others will be kept back from loss.
20:4
ἐπιθυμία εὐνούχου ἀποπαρθενῶσαι νεάνιδα οὕτως ὁ ποιῶν ἐν βίᾳ κρίματα
太監想要玷污處女,那以強暴施行審判的人也是如此。
As is the lust of an eunuch to deflower a virgin; So is he that executes judgements with violence.
20:5
ἔστιν σιωπῶν εὑρισκόμενος σοφός καὶ ἔστιν μισητὸς ἀπὸ πολλῆς λαλιᾶς
有人緘默,反顯為智慧;也有人因多言而被人厭惡。
There is one that keeps silence, and is found wise; And there is one that is hated for his much talk.
20:6
ἔστιν σιωπῶν οὐ γὰρ ἔχει ἀπόκρισιν καὶ ἔστιν σιωπῶν εἰδὼς καιρόν
有人緘默,是因無話可答;也有人緘默,是因知道時機。
There is one that keeps silence, for he has no answer to make; And there is that keeps silence, as knowing his time.
20:7
ἄνθρωπος σοφὸς σιγήσει ἕως καιροῦ ὁ δὲ λαπιστὴς καὶ ἄφρων ὑπερβήσεται καιρόν
智慧人靜默等候時機,誇口的愚人卻錯過時機。
A wise man will be silent till his time come; But the braggart and fool will overpass his time.
20:8
ὁ πλεονάζων λόγῳ βδελυχθήσεται καὶ ὁ ἐνεξουσιαζόμενος μισηθήσεται
多言的人必被人厭惡,擅自攬權的人必被人憎恨。
He that uses many words will be abhorred; And he that takes to himself authority therein will be hated.
20:9
ἔστιν εὐοδία ἐν κακοῖς ἀνδρί καὶ ἔστιν εὕρεμα εἰς ἐλάττωσιν
有人在禍患中反得亨通;也有人所得的反成虧損。
There is a prosperity that a man finds in misfortunes; And there is a gain that turns to loss.
20:10
ἔστιν δόσις ἣ οὐ λυσιτελήσει σοι καὶ ἔστιν δόσις ἧς τὸ ἀνταπόδομα διπλοῦν
有一種餽贈對你無益;也有一種餽贈,其回報是加倍的。
There is a gift that will not profit you; And there is a gift whose recompense is double.
20:11
ἔστιν ἐλάττωσις ἕνεκεν δόξης καὶ ἔστιν ὃς ἀπὸ ταπεινώσεως ἦρεν κεφαλήν
有人因榮耀反致卑微;也有人從卑微中抬起頭來。
There is an abasement because of glory; And there is that has lifted up his head from a low estate.
20:12
ἔστιν ἀγοράζων πολλὰ ὀλίγου καὶ ἀποτιννύων αὐτὰ ἑπταπλάσιον
有人以少價買得許多,卻要為此償付七倍的代價。
There is that buys much for a little, And pays for it again sevenfold.
20:13
ὁ σοφὸς ἐν λόγοις ἑαυτὸν προσφιλῆ ποιήσει χάριτες δὲ μωρῶν ἐκχυθήσονται
言語有智慧的人必使自己得人喜愛,愚人的恩惠卻徒然虛擲。
He that is wise in words will make himself beloved; But the pleasantries of fools will be wasted.
20:14
δόσις ἄφρονος οὐ λυσιτελήσει σοι οἱ γὰρ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτοῦ ἀνθ’ ἑνὸς πολλοί
愚人的餽贈對你無益,因為他的眼目所求的是加倍償還。
The gift of a fool will not profit you; For his eyes are many instead of one.
20:15
ὀλίγα δώσει καὶ πολλὰ ὀνειδίσει καὶ ἀνοίξει τὸ στόμα αὐτοῦ ὡς κῆρυξ σήμερον δανιεῖ καὶ αὔριον ἀπαιτήσει μισητὸς ἄνθρωπος ὁ τοιοῦτος
他施與得少,責罵卻多,並像傳令官一樣張口喧嚷;今日借出,明日就索回。這樣的人實在可憎。
He will give little, and upbraid much; And he will open his mouth like a crier: Today he will lend, and tomorrow he will ask it again: Such an one is a hateful man.
20:16
μωρὸς ἐρεῖ οὐχ ὑπάρχει μοι φίλος καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν χάρις τοῖς ἀγαθοῖς μου
愚人說:『我沒有朋友,我的善行也得不到感謝。』
The fool will say, I have no friend, And I have no thanks for my good deeds; They that eat my bread are of evil tongue.
20:17
οἱ ἔσθοντες τὸν ἄρτον αὐτοῦ φαῦλοι γλώσσῃ ποσάκις καὶ ὅσοι καταγελάσονται αὐτοῦ
喫他飯食的人,口出惡言;這樣的人,多少次、多少人要譏笑他呢!
How often, and of how many, will he be laughed to scorn!
20:18
ὀλίσθημα ἀπὸ ἐδάφους μᾶλλον ἢ ἀπὸ γλώσσης οὕτως πτῶσις κακῶν κατὰ σπουδὴν ἥξει
在地上失足勝過在舌頭上失言;照樣,惡人的傾覆也必迅速臨到。
A slip on a pavement is better than a slip with the tongue; So the fall of the wicked will come speedily.
20:19
ἄνθρωπος ἄχαρις μῦθος ἄκαιρος ἐν στόματι ἀπαιδεύτων ἐνδελεχισθήσεται
無恩的人如同不合時宜的故事,常在無學識之人的口中流傳。
A man without grace is as a tale out of season: It will be continually in the mouth of the ignorant.
20:20
ἀπὸ στόματος μωροῦ ἀποδοκιμασθήσεται παραβολή οὐ γὰρ μὴ εἴπῃ αὐτὴν ἐν καιρῷ αὐτῆς
出自愚人之口的箴言必被棄絕,因為他不會在合宜的時候說出來。
A wise sentence from a fool’s mouth will be rejected; For he will not speak it in its season.
20:21
ἔστιν κωλυόμενος ἁμαρτάνειν ἀπὸ ἐνδείας καὶ ἐν τῇ ἀναπαύσει αὐτοῦ οὐ κατανυγήσεται
有人因貧乏而被攔阻不能犯罪,他在安歇時便不致良心不安。
There is that is hindered from sinning through lack; And when he takes rest, he will not be troubled.
20:22
ἔστιν ἀπολλύων τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ δῑ αἰσχύνην καὶ ἀπὸ ἄφρονος προσώπου ἀπολεῖ αὐτήν
有人因羞怯而毀了自己的心靈,因愚昧的臉面而失喪了它。
There is that destroys his soul through bashfulness; And by a foolish countenance he will destroy it.
20:23
ἔστιν χάριν αἰσχύνης ἐπαγγελλόμενος φίλῳ καὶ ἐκτήσατο αὐτὸν ἐχθρὸν δωρεάν
有人因羞怯向朋友許下諾言,無故使他成為自己的仇敵。
There is that for bashfulness promises to his friend; And he makes him his enemy for nothing.
20:24
μῶμος πονηρὸς ἐν ἀνθρώπῳ ψεῦδος ἐν στόματι ἀπαιδεύτων ἐνδελεχισθήσεται
謊言在人身上是醜惡的污點,常在無學識之人的口中流傳。
A lie is a foul blot in a man: It will be continually in the mouth of the ignorant.
20:25
αἱρετὸν κλέπτης ἢ ὁ ἐνδελεχίζων ψεύδει ἀμφότεροι δὲ ἀπώλειαν κληρονομήσουσιν
竊賊勝過慣常說謊的人,但這二者都要承受滅亡。
A thief is better than a man that is continually lying: But they both will inherit destruction.
20:26
ἦθος ἀνθρώπου ψευδοῦς ἀτιμία καὶ ἡ αἰσχύνη αὐτοῦ μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἐνδελεχῶς
說謊者的品行是羞辱,他的羞愧常與他同在。
The disposition of a liar is dishonor; And his shame is with him continually.
20:27
ὁ σοφὸς ἐν λόγοις προάξει ἑαυτόν καὶ ἄνθρωπος φρόνιμος ἀρέσει μεγιστᾶσιν
言語有智慧的人必使自己長進,明智的人必得權貴的喜悅。
He that is wise in words will advance himself; And one that is prudent will please great men.
20:28
ὁ ἐργαζόμενος γῆν ἀνυψώσει θιμωνιὰν αὐτοῦ καὶ ὁ ἀρέσκων μεγιστᾶσιν ἐξιλάσεται ἀδικίαν
耕種田地的人必堆高他的穀堆,討權貴喜悅的人必得不義之事的赦免。
He that tils his land will raise his heap high; And he that pleases great men will get pardon for iniquity.
20:29
ξένια καὶ δῶρα ἀποτυφλοῖ ὀφθαλμοὺς σοφῶν καὶ ὡς φιμὸς ἐν στόματι ἀποτρέπει ἐλεγμούς
餽贈與禮物矇蔽智慧人的眼目,又如口上的籠套,止住責備。
Presents and gifts blind the eyes of the wise, And as a muzzle on the mouth, turn away reproofs.
20:30
σοφία κεκρυμμένη καὶ θησαυρὸς ἀφανής τίς ὠφέλεια ἐν ἀμφοτέροις
隱藏的智慧、看不見的寶藏,這二者有什麼益處呢?
Wisdom that is hid, and treasure that is out of sight, What profit is in them both?
20:31
κρείσσων ἄνθρωπος ἀποκρύπτων τὴν μωρίαν αὐτοῦ ἢ ἄνθρωπος ἀποκρύπτων τὴν σοφίαν αὐτοῦ
隱藏自己愚昧的人,勝過隱藏自己智慧的人。
Better is a man that hides his folly Than a man that hides his wisdom.
