40:1
ἀσχολία μεγάλη ἔκτισται παντὶ ἀνθρώπῳ καὶ ζυγὸς βαρὺς ἐπὶ υἱοὺς Αδαμ ἀφ’ ἡμέρας ἐξόδου ἐκ γαστρὸς μητρὸς αὐτῶν ἕως ἡμέρας ἐπιστροφῆς εἰς μητέρα πάντων
沉重的勞苦是為每個人而設的,重軛壓在亞當的子孫身上,從他們出母腹的那日起,直到歸入萬物之母的那日。
Great travail is created for every man, And a heavy yoke is upon the sons of Adam, From the day of their coming forth from their mother’s womb, Until the day for their burial in the mother of all things.
40:2
τοὺς διαλογισμοὺς αὐτῶν καὶ φόβον καρδίας ἐπίνοια προσδοκίας ἡμέρα τελευτῆς
他們的思慮、心中的懼怕、對未來的揣想、死亡的日子,
The expectation of things to come, and the day of death, Trouble their thoughts, and cause fear of heart;
40:3
ἀπὸ καθημένου ἐπὶ θρόνου ἐνδόξου καὶ ἕως τεταπεινωμένου ἐν γῇ καὶ σποδῷ
從坐在榮耀寶座上的,直到塵土爐灰中卑微的人,
From him that sits on a throne of glory, Even to him that is humbled in earth and ashes;
40:4
ἀπὸ φοροῦντος ὑακίνθινον καὶ στέφανον καὶ ἕως περιβαλλομένου ὠμόλινον θυμὸς καὶ ζῆλος καὶ ταραχὴ καὶ σάλος καὶ φόβος θανάτου καὶ μηνίαμα καὶ ἔρις
從穿紫袍戴冠冕的,直到披著粗麻布的,這一切都使他們不得安寧。
From him that wears purple and a crown, Even to him that is clothed with a hempen frock.
40:5
καὶ ἐν καιρῷ ἀναπαύσεως ἐπὶ κοίτης ὕπνος νυκτὸς ἀλλοιοῖ γνῶσιν αὐτοῦ
忿怒、嫉妒、煩亂、不安和死亡的懼怕、惱恨與爭競,都臨到他們;就是在牀上安歇的時候,夜間的睡眠也攪亂他的心思。
There is wrath, and jealousy, and trouble, and disquiet, And fear of death, and anger, and strife; And in the time of rest upon his bed His night sleep does change his knowledge.
40:6
ὀλίγον ὡς οὐδὲν ἐν ἀναπαύσει καὶ ἀπ’ ἐκείνου ἐν ὕπνοις ὡς ἐν ἡμέρᾳ σκοπιᾶς τεθορυβημένος ἐν ὁράσει καρδίας αὐτοῦ ὡς ἐκπεφευγὼς ἀπὸ προσώπου πολέμου
他得安息片刻,幾乎等於無有;隨後在睡夢中,如同在守望之日,他心中的異象使他驚惶,像是從戰陣前逃脫出來的人;
A little or nothing is his resting, And afterward in his sleep, as in a day of keeping watch, He is troubled in the vision of his heart, As one that has escaped from the front of battle.
40:7
ἐν καιρῷ χρείας αὐτοῦ ἐξηγέρθη καὶ ἀποθαυμάζων εἰς οὐδένα φόβον
正當他得脫險境之時驚醒過來,詫異所懼怕的原來不算甚麼。
In the very time of his deliverance he awakens, And marvels that the fear is nothing.
40:8
μετὰ πάσης σαρκὸς ἀπὸ ἀνθρώπου ἕως κτήνους καὶ ἐπὶ ἁμαρτωλῶν ἑπταπλάσια πρὸς ταῦτα
凡有血氣的,從人到牲畜,都是如此;至於罪人,所受的更要加增七倍。
It is thus with all flesh, from man to beast, And upon sinners sevenfold more.
40:9
θάνατος καὶ αἷμα καὶ ἔρις καὶ ῥομφαία ἐπαγωγαί λιμὸς καὶ σύντριμμα καὶ μάστιξ
死亡、流血、爭鬥、刀劍、災禍、饑荒、毀滅與鞭打,
Death, and bloodshed, and strife, and sword, Calamities, famine, tribulation, and the scourge;
40:10
ἐπὶ τοὺς ἀνόμους ἐκτίσθη ταῦτα πάντα καὶ δῑ αὐτοὺς ἐγένετο κατακλυσμός
這一切都是為惡人而造的,洪水也是因他們而來的。
All these things were created for the wicked, And because of them came the flood.
40:11
πάντα ὅσα ἀπὸ γῆς εἰς γῆν ἀναστρέφει καὶ ἀπὸ ὑδάτων εἰς θάλασσαν ἀνακάμπτει
凡出於地的,都要歸回於地;凡出於水的,都要返回到海。
All things that are of the earth turn to the earth again: And all things that are of the waters return into the sea.
40:12
πᾶν δῶρον καὶ ἀδικία ἐξαλειφθήσεται καὶ πίστις εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα στήσεται
一切的賄賂和不義都必被塗抹,惟有信實必存到永遠。
All bribery and injustice shall be blotted out; And good faith shall stand forever.
40:13
χρήματα ἀδίκων ὡς ποταμὸς ξηρανθήσεται καὶ ὡς βροντὴ μεγάλη ἐν ὑετῷ ἐξηχήσει
不義之人的財物必如河水乾涸,又如大雷在雨中轟然消逝。
The goods of the unjust shall be dried up like a river, And like a great thunder in rain shall go off in noise.
40:14
ἐν τῷ ἀνοῖξαι αὐτὸν χεῖρας εὐφρανθήσεται οὕτως οἱ παραβαίνοντες εἰς συντέλειαν ἐκλείψουσιν
人張手施予時必得歡喜;照樣,犯法的人終必歸於滅絕。
In opening his hands a man shall be made glad: So shall transgressors utterly fail.
40:15
ἔκγονα ἀσεβῶν οὐ πληθυνεῖ κλάδους καὶ ῥίζαι ἀκάθαρτοι ἐπ’ ἀκροτόμου πέτρας
惡人的後裔必不繁茂發枝,他們如同峭壁磐石上不潔的根。
The children of the ungodly shall not put forth many branches; And are as unclean roots upon a sheer rock.
40:16
ἄχι ἐπὶ παντὸς ὕδατος καὶ χείλους ποταμοῦ πρὸ παντὸς χόρτου ἐκτιλήσεται
凡水邊河岸所生的蘆葦,必比一切的草先被拔除。
The sedge that grows upon every water and bank of a river Shall be plucked up before all grass.
40:17
χάρις ὡς παράδεισος ἐν εὐλογίαις καὶ ἐλεημοσύνη εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα διαμενεῖ
慷慨如同滿有祝福的園子,施捨必存到永遠。
Bounty is as a garden of blessings, And almsgiving endures forever.
40:18
ζωὴ αὐτάρκους καὶ ἐργάτου γλυκανθήσεται καὶ ὑπὲρ ἀμφότερα εὑρίσκων θησαυρόν
知足勞作之人的生活是甘甜的;尋得寶藏的人卻勝過這兩者。
The life of one that labores, and is contented, shall be made sweet; And he that finds a treasure is above both.
40:19
τέκνα καὶ οἰκοδομὴ πόλεως στηρίζουσιν ὄνομα καὶ ὑπὲρ ἀμφότερα γυνὴ ἄμωμος λογίζεται
兒女與建城使人的名得以立定,但無瑕疵的妻子比這兩者更被看重。
Children and the building of a city establish a man’s name; And a blameless wife is counted above both.
40:20
οἶνος καὶ μουσικὰ εὐφραίνουσιν καρδίαν καὶ ὑπὲρ ἀμφότερα ἀγάπησις σοφίας
酒與音樂使人心歡暢,但愛慕智慧比這兩者更美。
Wine and music rejoice the heart; And the love of wisdom is above both.
40:21
αὐλὸς καὶ ψαλτήριον ἡδύνουσιν μέλη καὶ ὑπὲρ ἀμφότερα γλῶσσα ἡδεῖα
笛子與琴瑟發出悅耳的旋律,但和悅的舌頭比這兩者更佳。
The pipe and the lute make pleasant melody; And a pleasant tongue is above both.
40:22
χάριν καὶ κάλλος ἐπιθυμήσει ὀφθαλμὸς καὶ ὑπὲρ ἀμφότερα χλόην σπόρου
眼睛喜愛恩美與秀麗,但禾田青翠的嫩苗比這兩者更可愛。
Your eye shall desire grace and beauty; And above both the green blade of corn.
40:23
φίλος καὶ ἑταῖρος εἰς καιρὸν ἀπαντῶντες καὶ ὑπὲρ ἀμφότερα γυνὴ μετὰ ἀνδρός
朋友與同伴相遇正合時宜,但夫妻同心比這兩者更美。
A friend and a companion never meet amiss; And a wife with her husband is above both.
40:24
ἀδελφοὶ καὶ βοήθεια εἰς καιρὸν θλίψεως καὶ ὑπὲρ ἀμφότερα ἐλεημοσύνη ῥύσεται
弟兄與援助是為患難時候預備的,但施捨拯救人,勝過這兩者。
Brethren and succour are for a time of affliction; And almsgiving is a deliverer above both.
40:25
χρυσίον καὶ ἀργύριον ἐπιστήσουσιν πόδα καὶ ὑπὲρ ἀμφότερα βουλὴ εὐδοκιμεῖται
金銀使人腳步穩固,但好的計謀比這兩者更被看重。
Gold and silver will make the foot stand sure; And counsel is esteemed above them both.
40:26
χρήματα καὶ ἰσχὺς ἀνυψώσουσιν καρδίαν καὶ ὑπὲρ ἀμφότερα φόβος κυρίου οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν φόβῳ κυρίου ἐλάττωσις καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ἐπιζητῆσαι ἐν αὐτῷ βοήθειαν
財物與勢力使人心高氣傲,但敬畏主比這兩者更美。敬畏主的,一無所缺,也不必另尋幫助。
Riches and strength will lift up the heart; And the fear of the Lord is above both: There is nothing lacking in the fear of the Lord, And there is no need to seek help therein.
40:27
φόβος κυρίου ὡς παράδεισος εὐλογίας καὶ ὑπὲρ πᾶσαν δόξαν ἐκάλυψεν αὐτόν
敬畏主如同滿有祝福的園子,遮蓋人勝過一切的榮耀。
The fear of the Lord is as a garden of blessing, And covers a man above all glory.
40:28
τέκνον ζωὴν ἐπαιτήσεως μὴ βιώσῃς κρεῖσσον ἀποθανεῖν ἐπαιτεῖν
我兒,不要過乞討的生活;寧可死,也勝過乞討。
My son, lead not a beggar’s life; Better it is to die than to beg.
40:29
ἀνὴρ βλέπων εἰς τράπεζαν ἀλλοτρίαν οὐκ ἔστιν αὐτοῦ βίος ἐν λογισμῷ ζωῆς ἀλισγήσει ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ ἐν ἐδέσμασιν ἀλλοτρίοις ἀνὴρ δὲ ἐπιστήμων καὶ πεπαιδευμένος φυλάξεται
仰望別人桌子的人,他的生活算不得生活;他必以別人的食物玷污自己。明智有見識的人卻必謹防這事。
A man that looks to the table of another, His life is not to be counted for a life; He will pollute his soul with another man’s meats: But a man wise and well-instructed will beware thereof.
40:30
ἐν στόματι ἀναιδοῦς γλυκανθήσεται ἐπαίτησις καὶ ἐν κοιλίᾳ αὐτοῦ πῦρ καήσεται
在無恥之人口中,乞討顯為甘甜,但在他肚腹中卻必如火燃燒。
In the mouth of the shameless begging will be sweet; And in his belly a fire shall be kindled.
