17:1
ይኄይስ፡ ፍት፡ ጥዑም፡ ምስለ፡ ሰላም፡ እምቤት፡ ዘምሉእ፡ ብዙኀ፡ ሠናያተ፡ ወእምዘ፡ ዓመፃ፡ ጥብሕ፡ ምስለ፡ ጋእዝ።
Better is a dry morsel with quietness, than a house full of feasting with strife.
設筵滿屋,大家相爭, 不如有塊乾餅,大家相安。
17:2
ገብር፡ ጠቢብ፡ ይሜብል፡ አጋእዝተ፡ ዐብዳነ፡ ወምስለ፡ እኃው፡ ይትካፈል፡ ርስተ።
A servant who deals wisely will rule over a son who causes shame, and shall have a part in the inheritance among the brothers.
僕人辦事聰明,必管轄貽羞之子, 又在眾子中同分產業。
17:3
በከመ፡ ይትፈተን፡ ወርቅ፡ ወብሩር፡ በከውር፡ ከማሁ፡ ኅሩያነ፡ ልብ፡ በኀበ፡ እግዚአብሔር።
The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, but Yahweh tests the hearts.
鼎為煉銀,爐為煉金; 惟有耶和華熬煉人心。
17:4
እኩየ፡ ያሠምዕ፡ ልሳኖሙ፡ ለእለ፡ ዘእንበለ፡ ሕግ፡ ጻድቅሰ፡ ኢይኔፅር፡ ከናፍረ፡ ሐሰት።
An evildoer heeds wicked lips. A liar gives ear to a mischievous tongue.
行惡的,留心聽奸詐之言; 說謊的,側耳聽邪惡之語。
17:5
ለምእመን፡ ኵሉ፡ ዘበዓለም፡ ንዋዩ፡ ወለዘኢምእመንሰ፡ ኢፀሪቅ፡ ሎቱ።
Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker. He who is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.
戲笑窮人的,是辱沒造他的主; 幸災樂禍的,必不免受罰。
17:6
ዘይስሕቆ፡ ለነዳይ፡ ይዌህኮ፡ ለፈጣሪሁ፡ ወዘይትፌሣሕ፡ ላዕለ፡ ዘይትኀጐል፡ ኢይድኅን፡ ወዘይምሕርሰ፡ ይትሜሐር።
Children’s children are the crown of old men; the glory of children is their parents.
子孫為老人的冠冕; 父親是兒女的榮耀。
17:7
አክሊሎሙ፡ ለአእሩግ፡ ውሉደ፡ ውሉድ፡ ወምክሖሙ፡ ለውሉድ፡ አበዊሆሙ።
Excellent speech isn’t fitting for a fool, much less do lying lips fit a prince.
愚頑人說美言本不相宜, 何況君王說謊話呢?
17:8
ኢይትዋደዶ፡ ለዐብድ፡ ከናፍረ፡ ወሃይምንት፡ ወኢጻድቅ፡ ከናፍረ፡ ሐሰት።
A bribe is a precious stone in the eyes of him who gives it; wherever he turns, he prospers.
賄賂在餽送的人眼中看為寶玉, 隨處運動都得順利。
17:9
ዓስበ፡ ሞገስ፡ ትምህርት፡ ለእለ፡ አጥረይዋ፡ ኀበ፡ ተመይጠ፡ ታሤኒ፡ ፍኖቶ።
He who covers an offense promotes love; but he who repeats a matter separates best friends.
遮掩人過的,尋求人愛; 屢次挑錯的,離間密友。
17:10
ዘየኀብእ፡ አበሳሁ፡ ይፈቅድ፡ ዕርቀ፡ ወዘይጸልእሰ፡ ኀቢአ፡ ይሌሊ፡ አዕርክተ፡ ወሰብአ፡ ቤት።
A rebuke enters deeper into one who has understanding than a hundred lashes into a fool.
一句責備話深入聰明人的心, 強如責打愚昧人一百下。
17:11
የኃዝን፡ ትምክሕት፡ ልበ፡ ጠቢብ፡ ወዐብድሰ፡ ተቀሢፎ፡ ኢይትዓወቆ፡ ቅሥፈቱ።
An evil man seeks only rebellion; therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.
惡人只尋背叛, 所以必有嚴厲的使者奉差攻擊他。
17:12
ቅስተ፡ ያነሥእ፡ ኵሉ፡ እኩይ፡ ወእግዚአብሔር፡ ይፌኑ፡ መልአኮ፡ ዘእንበለ፡ ምሕረት፡ ቦቱ።
Let a bear robbed of her cubs meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.
寧可遇見丟崽子的母熊, 不可遇見正行愚妄的愚昧人。
17:13
ይወድቅ፡ ብእሲ፡ ማእምር፡ ውስተ፡ ትካዝ፡ ወዐብዳንሰ፡ ይሔልዩ፡ እኩየ።
Whoever rewards evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
以惡報善的, 禍患必不離他的家。
17:14
ዘየዓሢ፡ እኩየ፡ ህየንተ፡ ሠናይ፡ ኢያንቀለቅል፡ እኩይ፡ እምነ፡ ቤቱ።
The beginning of strife is like breaching a dam, therefore stop contention before quarreling breaks out.
紛爭的起頭如水放開, 所以,在爭鬧之先必當止息爭競。
17:15
ዐፂወ፡ ማይ፡ ቀዳሜ፡ ጽልእ፡ ወመኰንና፡ ለንዴት፡ ጋእዝ፡ ወባእስ፡ ሥልጣነ፡ ነገር፡ ይሁብ፡ ቀዳሜ፡ ጽድቅ።
He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the righteous, both of them alike are an abomination to Yahweh.
定惡人為義的,定義人為惡的, 這都為耶和華所憎惡。
17:16
ዘከመ፡ ጻድቅ፡ ይኰንኖ፡ ለኃጥእ፡ ወዘከመ፡ ኃጥእ፡ ለጻድቅ፡ ርኩስ፡ ምኑን፡ በኀበ፡ እግዚአብሔር።
Why is there money in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, since he has no understanding?
愚昧人既無聰明, 為何手拿價銀買智慧呢?
17:17
ለምንት፡ ጥሪት፡ ለዐብድ፡ አጥርዮታ፡ ለጥበብ፡ ዘእንበለ፡ ልብ፡ ኢይትከሀል።
A friend loves at all times; and a brother is born for adversity.
朋友乃時常親愛, 弟兄為患難而生。
17:18
ዘያነውኅ፡ ቤቶ፡ የኃሥሥ፡ ቅጥቃጤ፡ ለርእሱ፡ ወዘያስተዓፅብ፡ ለተምህሮ፡ ይወድቅ፡ ውስተ፡ አኪት።
A man void of understanding strikes hands, and becomes collateral in the presence of his neighbor.
在鄰舍面前擊掌作保 乃是無知的人。
17:19
በኵሉ፡ ጊዜ፡ አጥሪ፡ ዓርከ፡ ወአኃወ፡ በምንዳቤ፡ በቋፅያነ፡ ይከውኑ፡ እስመ፡ በእንተዝ፡ ይትወለዱ።
He who loves disobedience loves strife. One who builds a high gate seeks destruction.
喜愛爭競的,是喜愛過犯; 高立家門的,乃自取敗壞。
17:20
ብእሲ፡ ዓብድ፡ ይጠፍሕ፡ እዴሁ፡ ወይትኀሠይ፡ በርእሱ፡ ከመ፡ ዘይትሀበይ፡ ህቢተ፡ ለዐርኩ።
One who has a perverse heart doesn’t find prosperity, and one who has a deceitful tongue falls into trouble.
心存邪僻的,尋不着好處; 舌弄是非的,陷在禍患中。
17:21
መፍቀሬ፡ ጋእዝ፡ ይትፌሣሕ፡ በባእስ፡ ወጽኑዐ፡ ልብሰ፡ ኢይዳደቅ፡ ሠናየ።
He who becomes the father of a fool grieves. The father of a fool has no joy.
生愚昧子的,必自愁苦; 愚頑人的父毫無喜樂。
17:22
ብእሲ፡ መያጤ፡ ልሳን፡ ይወድቅ፡ ውስተ፡ እኪት፡ ወልበ፡ ዐብድሰ፡ ኃዘን፡ ለዘአጥረያ።
A cheerful heart makes good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
喜樂的心乃是良藥; 憂傷的靈使骨枯乾。
17:23
ኢይትፌሣሕ፡ አብ፡ በወልድ፡ ዘእንበለ፡ ትምህርት፡ ወልድ፡ ጠቢብ፡ ያስተፌሥሕ፡ እሞ።
A wicked man receives a bribe in secret, to pervert the ways of justice.
惡人暗中受賄賂, 為要顛倒判斷。
17:24
ልብ፡ ፍሥሕት፡ ሠናየ፡ ትገብር፡ ብእሲ፡ ኃዛኒ፡ ያየብስ፡ አዕፅምቲሁ።
Wisdom is before the face of one who has understanding, but the eyes of a fool wander to the ends of the earth.
明哲人眼前有智慧; 愚昧人眼望地極。
17:25
ዘይነሥእ፡ ሕልያነ፡ ውስተ፡ ኅፅኑ፡ በዓመፃ፡ ኢያረትዕ፡ ፍትሐ፡ ወረሲዕሰ፡ ይትገኀሥ፡ እምፍናወ፡ ጻድቃን።
A foolish son brings grief to his father, and bitterness to her who bore him.
愚昧子使父親愁煩, 使母親憂苦。
17:26
ገጹ፡ ማእምር፡ ለብእሲ፡ ጠቢብ፡ ወአዕይንቲሁ፡ ለዓብድ፡ ውስተ፡ ከተማ፡ ምድር፡ አዕይንቲሁሰ፡ ለጠቢብ፡ ዲበ፡ ርእሱ።
Also to punish the righteous is not good, nor to flog officials for their integrity.
刑罰義人為不善; 責打君子為不義。
17:27
መዓት፡ ለአብ፡ ዐብድ፡ ውሉድ፡ ወኃዘን፡ ለእንተ፡ ወለደቶ።
He who spares his words has knowledge. He who is even tempered is a man of understanding.
寡少言語的,有知識; 性情溫良的,有聰明。
17:28
አኅሥሮቱ፡ ለጻድቅ፡ ብእሲ፡ አኮ፡ ሠናይ፡ ወአኮ፡ ሠናይ፡ ለመኳንንተ፡ ጽድቅ፡ ሐቢል።
Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is counted wise. When he shuts his lips, he is thought to be discerning.
愚昧人若靜默不言也可算為智慧; 閉口不說也可算為聰明。
17:29
ዘይምህክ፡ አውፅኦ፡ ቃለ፡ ንቁጸ፡ ማእምር፡ ውእቱ፡ ወመስተዓግሥ፡ ብእሲ፡ ጠቢብ።
Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is counted wise. When he shuts his lips, he is thought to be discerning.
愚昧人若靜默不言也可算為智慧; 閉口不說也可算為聰明。
17:30
ዓብድ፡ ለእመ፡ ተሰአለ፡ ጥበበ፡ ይከውኖ፡ በአርምሞሰ፡ ወበተሐክሞ፡ ይመስል፡ ጠቢበ።
Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is counted wise. When he shuts his lips, he is thought to be discerning.
愚昧人若靜默不言也可算為智慧; 閉口不說也可算為聰明。
