Furthermore, then, concerning the sabbath also it is written in the Ten Words which He spoke on Mount Sinai to Moses face to face: "And sanctify the sabbath of the Lord with pure hands and a pure heart."
He speaks of the sabbath at the beginning of creation: "And God made in six days the works of His hands, and finished on the seventh day, and rested in it and sanctified it."
Take heed, children, what "He finished in six days" means. This means that in six thousand years the Lord will bring all things to completion; for a day with Him signifies a thousand years. And He Himself testifies to me, saying: "Behold, a day of the Lord shall be as a thousand years." Therefore, children, in six days, that is, in six thousand years, all things shall be completed.
"And He rested on the seventh day." This means: when His Son, having come, shall abolish the time of the lawless one and judge the ungodly, and change the sun and the moon and the stars, then He shall rest gloriously on the seventh day.
Finally, indeed, He says: "You shall sanctify it with pure hands and a pure heart." If, then, anyone is now able to sanctify the day which God sanctified, being pure in heart, we have been deceived in all things.
Behold, therefore, that we shall truly sanctify it then, when, resting well, we are able to do so—having ourselves first been justified and received the promise, when lawlessness is no more, and all things have been made new by the Lord; then we shall be able to sanctify it, having ourselves first been sanctified.
Finally, indeed, He says to them: "Your new moons and sabbaths I cannot endure." See how He speaks: it is not the present sabbaths that are acceptable to me, but that one which I have made, in which, having brought all things to rest, I will make a beginning of an eighth day, which is the beginning of another world.
