4:1

Ἀρχὴ δὲ πάντων χαλεπῶν φιλαργυρία. εἰδότες οὖν ὅτι οὐδὲν εἰσηνέγκαμεν εἰς τὸν κόσμον, ἀλλ̓ οὐδὲ ἐξενεγκεῖν τι ἔχομεν, ὁπλισώμεθα τοῖς ὅπλοις τῆς δικαιοσύνης καὶ διδάξωμεν ἑαυτοὺς πρῶτον πορεύεσθαι ἐν τῇ ἐντολῇ τοῦ κυριοῦ:

But the love of money is the beginning of all troubles. Knowing therefore that we brought nothing into the world, and neither can we carry anything out, let us arm ourselves with the weapons of righteousness, and let us first teach ourselves to walk in the commandment of the Lord;

貪愛錢財乃是萬惡的開端。我們既知道沒有帶甚麼到世上來，也不能帶甚麼離去，就當以公義的兵器裝備自己，並且先教導自己按主的誡命而行；

4:2

ἔπειτα καὶ τὰς γυναῖκας ἡμῶν ἐν τῇ δοθείσῃ αὐταῖς πίστει καὶ ἀγάπῃ καὶ ἁγνείᾳ στεργούσας τοὺς ἑαυτῶν ἄνδρας ἐν πάσῃ ἀληθείᾳ καὶ ἀγαπώσας πάντας ἐξ ἴσου ἐν πάσῃ ἐγκρατείᾳ, καὶ τὰ τέκνα παιδεύειν τὴν παιδείαν τοῦ φόβου τοῦ θεοῦ:

then also to teach our wives to walk in the faith, love, and purity given to them, cherishing their own husbands in all truthfulness and loving all others equally in all chastity, and to train up their children in the instruction of the fear of God;

然後也要教導我們的妻子，按所賜給她們的信心、愛心和貞潔而行，在凡事上以真誠愛護自己的丈夫，又在全然自守中一視同仁地愛眾人，並且照著敬畏神的教訓養育兒女；

4:3

τὰς χήρας σωφρονούσας περὶ τὴν τοῦ κυρίου πίστιν, ἐντυγχανούσας ἀδιαλείπτως περὶ πάντων, μακρὰν οὔσας πάσης διαβολῆς, καταλαλιᾶς, ψευδομαρτυρίας, φιλαργυρίας καὶ παντὸς κακοῦ, γινωσκούσας ὅτι εἰσὶ θυσιαστήριον θεοῦ καὶ ὅτι πάντα μωμοσκοπεῖται, καὶ λέληθεν αὐτὸν οὐδὲν οὔτε λογισμῶν οὔτε ἐννοιῶν οὔτε τι τῶν κρυπτῶν τῆς καρδίας

and the widows to be discreet concerning the faith of the Lord, interceding without ceasing on behalf of all, keeping far from all slander, evil-speaking, false witness, love of money, and every evil, knowing that they are an altar of God, and that everything is inspected for blemish, and that nothing escapes him—neither thoughts nor intentions nor any of the hidden things of the heart.

也要教導寡婦，使她們在主的信心上謹守自律，為眾人不住地代求，遠離一切的誣陷、毀謗、作假見證、貪財和各樣的惡，知道她們乃是神的祭壇，又知道凡事都要受查驗有無瑕疵，沒有甚麼能瞞過祂——無論是心思、意念，或是心中任何隱藏的事。
