28:1
Habet argentum venarum suarum principia, et auro locus est in quo conflatur.
“Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place for gold which they refine.
銀子有礦; 煉金有方。
28:2
Ferrum de terra tollitur, et lapis solutus calore in aes vertitur.
Iron is taken out of the earth, and copper is smelted out of the ore.
鐵從地裏挖出; 銅從石中鎔化。
28:3
Tempus posuit tenebris, et universorum finem ipse considerat : lapidem quoque caliginis et umbram mortis.
Man sets an end to darkness, and searches out, to the furthest bound, the stones of obscurity and of thick darkness.
人為黑暗定界限, 查究幽暗陰翳的石頭,直到極處,
28:4
Dividit torrens a populo peregrinante eos quos oblitus est pes egentis hominis, et invios.
He breaks open a shaft away from where people live. They are forgotten by the foot. They hang far from men, they swing back and forth.
在無人居住之處刨開礦穴, 過路的人也想不到他們; 又與人遠離,懸在空中搖來搖去。
28:5
Terra de qua oriebatur panis, in loco suo igni subversa est.
As for the earth, out of it comes bread. Underneath it is turned up as it were by fire.
至於地,能出糧食, 地內好像被火翻起來。
28:6
Locus sapphiri lapides ejus, et glebae illius aurum.
Sapphires come from its rocks. It has dust of gold.
地中的石頭有藍寶石, 並有金沙。
28:7
Semitam ignoravit avis, nec intuitus est eam oculus vulturis.
That path no bird of prey knows, neither has the falcon’s eye seen it.
礦中的路鷙鳥不得知道; 鷹眼也未見過。
28:8
Non calcaverunt eam filii institorum, nec pertransivit per eam leaena.
The proud animals have not trodden it, nor has the fierce lion passed by there.
狂傲的野獸未曾行過; 猛烈的獅子也未曾經過。
28:9
Ad silicem extendit manum suam : subvertit a radicibus montes.
He puts his hand on the flinty rock, and he overturns the mountains by the roots.
人伸手鑿開堅石, 傾倒山根,
28:10
In petris rivos excidit, et omne pretiosum vidit oculus ejus.
He cuts out channels among the rocks. His eye sees every precious thing.
在磐石中鑿出水道, 親眼看見各樣寶物。
28:11
Profunda quoque fluviorum scrutatus est, et abscondita in lucem produxit.
He binds the streams that they don’t trickle. The thing that is hidden he brings out to light.
他封閉水不得滴流, 使隱藏的物顯露出來。
28:12
Sapientia vero ubi invenitur ? et quis est locus intelligentiae ?
“But where will wisdom be found? Where is the place of understanding?
然而,智慧有何處可尋? 聰明之處在哪裏呢?
28:13
Nescit homo pretium ejus, nec invenitur in terra suaviter viventium.
Man doesn’t know its price, and it isn’t found in the land of the living.
智慧的價值無人能知, 在活人之地也無處可尋。
28:14
Abyssus dicit : Non est in me, et mare loquitur : Non est mecum.
The deep says, ‘It isn’t in me.’ The sea says, ‘It isn’t with me.’
深淵說:不在我內; 滄海說:不在我中。
28:15
Non dabitur aurum obrizum pro ea, nec appendetur argentum in commutatione ejus.
It can’t be gotten for gold, neither will silver be weighed for its price.
智慧非用黃金可得, 也不能平白銀為它的價值。
28:16
Non conferetur tinctis Indiae coloribus, nec lapidi sardonycho pretiosissimo vel sapphiro.
It can’t be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.
俄斐金和貴重的紅瑪瑙, 並藍寶石,不足與較量;
28:17
Non adaequabitur ei aurum vel vitrum, nec commutabuntur pro ea vasa auri.
Gold and glass can’t equal it, neither will it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold.
黃金和玻璃不足與比較; 精金的器皿不足與兌換。
28:18
Excelsa et eminentia non memorabuntur comparatione ejus : trahitur autem sapientia de occultis.
No mention will be made of coral or of crystal. Yes, the price of wisdom is above rubies.
珊瑚、水晶都不足論; 智慧的價值勝過珍珠 。
28:19
Non adaequabitur ei topazius de Aethiopia, nec tincturae mundissimae componetur.
The topaz of Ethiopia will not equal it. It won’t be valued with pure gold.
古實的紅璧璽不足與比較; 精金也不足與較量。
28:20
Unde ergo sapientia venit ? et quis est locus intelligentiae ?
Where then does wisdom come from? Where is the place of understanding?
智慧從何處來呢? 聰明之處在哪裏呢?
28:21
Abscondita est ab oculis omnium viventium : volucres quoque caeli latet.
Seeing it is hidden from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the birds of the sky.
是向一切有生命的眼目隱藏, 向空中的飛鳥掩蔽。
28:22
Perditio et mors dixerunt : Auribus nostris audivimus famam ejus.
Destruction and Death say, ‘We have heard a rumor of it with our ears.’
滅沒和死亡說: 我們風聞其名。
28:23
Deus intelligit viam ejus, et ipse novit locum illius.
“God understands its way, and he knows its place.
上帝明白智慧的道路, 曉得智慧的所在。
28:24
Ipse enim fines mundi intuetur, et omnia quae sub caelo sunt respicit.
For he looks to the ends of the earth, and sees under the whole sky.
因他鑒察直到地極, 遍觀普天之下,
28:25
Qui fecit ventis pondus, et aquas appendit in mensura.
He establishes the force of the wind. Yes, he measures out the waters by measure.
要為風定輕重, 又度量諸水;
28:26
Quando ponebat pluviis legem, et viam procellis sonantibus :
When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder,
他為雨露定命令, 為雷電定道路。
28:27
tunc vidit illam et enarravit, et praeparavit, et investigavit.
then he saw it, and declared it. He established it, yes, and searched it out.
那時他看見智慧,而且述說; 他堅定,並且查究。
28:28
Et dixit homini : Ecce timor Domini, ipsa est sapientia ; et recedere a malo, intelligentia.
To man he said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom. To depart from evil is understanding.’”
他對人說:敬畏主就是智慧; 遠離惡便是聰明。
