41:1
Non quasi crudelis suscitabo eum : quis enim resistere potest vultui meo ?
“Can you draw out Leviathan with a fish hook, or press down his tongue with a cord?
你能用魚鉤釣上鱷魚嗎? 能用繩子壓下牠的舌頭嗎?
41:2
Quis ante dedit mihi, ut reddam ei ? omnia quae sub caelo sunt, mea sunt.
Can you put a rope into his nose, or pierce his jaw through with a hook?
你能用繩索穿牠的鼻子嗎? 能用鉤穿牠的腮骨嗎?
41:3
Non parcam ei, et verbis potentibus, et ad deprecandum compositis.
Will he make many petitions to you, or will he speak soft words to you?
牠豈向你連連懇求, 說柔和的話嗎?
41:4
Quis revelabit faciem indumenti ejus ? et in medium oris ejus quis intrabit ?
Will he make a covenant with you, that you should take him for a servant forever?
豈肯與你立約, 使你拿牠永遠作奴僕嗎?
41:5
Portas vultus ejus quis aperiet ? per gyrum dentium ejus formido.
Will you play with him as with a bird? Or will you bind him for your girls?
你豈可拿牠當雀鳥玩耍嗎? 豈可為你的幼女將牠拴住嗎?
41:6
Corpus illius quasi scuta fusilia, compactum squamis se prementibus.
Will traders barter for him? Will they part him among the merchants?
搭夥的漁夫豈可拿牠當貨物嗎? 能把牠分給商人嗎?
41:7
Una uni conjungitur, et ne spiraculum quidem incedit per eas.
Can you fill his skin with barbed irons, or his head with fish spears?
你能用倒鉤槍扎滿牠的皮, 能用魚叉叉滿牠的頭嗎?
41:8
Una alteri adhaerebit, et tenentes se nequaquam separabuntur.
Lay your hand on him. Remember the battle, and do so no more.
你按手在牠身上,想與牠爭戰, 就不再這樣行吧!
41:9
Sternutatio ejus splendor ignis, et oculi ejus ut palpebrae diluculi.
Behold, the hope of him is in vain. Won’t one be cast down even at the sight of him?
人指望捉拿牠是徒然的; 一見牠,豈不喪膽嗎?
41:10
De ore ejus lampades procedunt, sicut taedae ignis accensae.
None is so fierce that he dare stir him up. Who then is he who can stand before me?
沒有那麼兇猛的人敢惹牠。 這樣,誰能在我面前站立得住呢?
41:11
De naribus ejus procedit fumus, sicut ollae succensae atque ferventis.
Who has first given to me, that I should repay him? Everything under the heavens is mine.
誰先給我甚麼,使我償還呢? 天下萬物都是我的。
41:12
Halitus ejus prunas ardere facit, et flamma de ore ejus egreditur.
“I will not keep silence concerning his limbs, nor his mighty strength, nor his goodly frame.
論到鱷魚的肢體和其大力,並美好的骨骼, 我不能緘默不言。
41:13
In collo ejus morabitur fortitudo, et faciem ejus praecedit egestas.
Who can strip off his outer garment? Who will come within his jaws?
誰能剝牠的外衣? 誰能進牠上下牙骨之間呢?
41:14
Membra carnium ejus cohaerentia sibi : mittet contra eum fulmina, et ad locum alium non ferentur.
Who can open the doors of his face? Around his teeth is terror.
誰能開牠的腮頰? 牠牙齒四圍是可畏的。
41:15
Cor ejus indurabitur tamquam lapis, et stringetur quasi malleatoris incus.
Strong scales are his pride, shut up together with a close seal.
牠以堅固的鱗甲為可誇, 緊緊合閉,封得嚴密。
41:16
Cum sublatus fuerit, timebunt angeli, et territi purgabuntur.
One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.
這鱗甲一一相連, 甚至氣不得透入其間,
41:17
Cum apprehenderit eum gladius, subsistere non poterit, neque hasta, neque thorax :
They are joined to one another. They stick together, so that they can’t be pulled apart.
都是互相聯絡、膠結, 不能分離。
41:18
reputabit enim quasi paleas ferrum, et quasi lignum putridum aes.
His sneezing flashes out light. His eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.
牠打噴嚏就發出光來; 牠眼睛好像早晨的光線 。
41:19
Non fugabit eum vir sagittarius : in stipulam versi sunt ei lapides fundae.
Out of his mouth go burning torches. Sparks of fire leap out.
從牠口中發出燒着的火把, 與飛迸的火星;
41:20
Quasi stipulam aestimabit malleum, et deridebit vibrantem hastam.
Out of his nostrils a smoke goes, as of a boiling pot over a fire of reeds.
從牠鼻孔冒出煙來, 如燒開的鍋和點着的蘆葦。
41:21
Sub ipso erunt radii solis, et sternet sibi aurum quasi lutum.
His breath kindles coals. A flame goes out of his mouth.
牠的氣點着煤炭, 有火焰從牠口中發出。
41:22
Fervescere faciet quasi ollam profundum mare, et ponet quasi cum unguenta bulliunt.
There is strength in his neck. Terror dances before him.
牠頸項中存着勁力; 在牠面前的都恐嚇蹦跳。
41:23
Post eum lucebit semita : aestimabit abyssum quasi senescentem.
The flakes of his flesh are joined together. They are firm on him. They can’t be moved.
牠的肉塊互相聯絡, 緊貼其身,不能搖動。
41:24
Non est super terram potestas quae comparetur ei, qui factus est ut nullum timeret.
His heart is as firm as a stone, yes, firm as the lower millstone.
牠的心結實如石頭, 如下磨石那樣結實。
41:25
Omne sublime videt : ipse est rex super universos filios superbiae.
When he raises himself up, the mighty are afraid. They retreat before his thrashing.
牠一起來,勇士都驚恐, 心裏慌亂,便都昏迷。
