39:1
Numquid nosti tempus partus ibicum in petris, vel parturientes cervas observasti ?
“Do you know the time when the mountain goats give birth? Do you watch when the doe bears fawns?
山巖間的野山羊幾時生產,你知道嗎? 母鹿下犢之期,你能察定嗎?
39:2
Dinumerasti menses conceptus earum, et scisti tempus partus earum ?
Can you count the months that they fulfill? Or do you know the time when they give birth?
牠們懷胎的月數,你能數算嗎? 牠們幾時生產,你能曉得嗎?
39:3
Incurvantur ad foetum, et pariunt, et rugitus emittunt.
They bow themselves. They bear their young. They end their labor pains.
牠們屈身,將子生下, 就除掉疼痛。
39:4
Separantur filii earum, et pergunt ad pastum : egrediuntur, et non revertuntur ad eas.
Their young ones become strong. They grow up in the open field. They go out, and don’t return again.
這子漸漸肥壯,在荒野長大, 去而不回。
39:5
Quis dimisit onagrum liberum, et vincula ejus quis solvit ?
“Who has set the wild donkey free? Or who has loosened the bonds of the swift donkey,
誰放野驢出去自由? 誰解開快驢的繩索?
39:6
cui dedi in solitudine domum, et tabernacula ejus in terra salsuginis.
whose home I have made the wilderness, and the salt land his dwelling place?
我使曠野作牠的住處, 使鹹地當牠的居所。
39:7
Contemnit multitudinem civitatis : clamorem exactoris non audit.
He scorns the tumult of the city, neither does he hear the shouting of the driver.
牠嗤笑城內的喧嚷, 不聽趕牲口的喝聲。
39:8
Circumspicit montes pascuae suae, et virentia quaeque perquirit.
The range of the mountains is his pasture. He searches after every green thing.
遍山是牠的草場; 牠尋找各樣青綠之物。
39:9
Numquid volet rhinoceros servire tibi, aut morabitur ad praesepe tuum ?
“Will the wild ox be content to serve you? Or will he stay by your feeding trough?
野牛豈肯服事你? 豈肯住在你的槽旁?
39:10
Numquid alligabis rhinocerota ad arandum loro tuo, aut confringet glebas vallium post te ?
Can you hold the wild ox in the furrow with his harness? Or will he till the valleys after you?
你豈能用套繩將野牛籠在犂溝之間? 牠豈肯隨你耙山谷之地?
39:11
Numquid fiduciam habebis in magna fortitudine ejus, et derelinques ei labores tuos ?
Will you trust him, because his strength is great? Or will you leave to him your labor?
豈可因牠的力大就倚靠牠? 豈可把你的工交給牠做嗎?
39:12
Numquid credes illi quod sementem reddat tibi, et aream tuam congreget ?
Will you confide in him, that he will bring home your seed, and gather the grain of your threshing floor?
豈可信靠牠把你的糧食運到家, 又收聚你禾場上的穀嗎?
39:13
Penna struthionis similis est pennis herodii et accipitris.
“The wings of the ostrich wave proudly, but are they the feathers and plumage of love?
鴕鳥的翅膀歡然搧展, 豈是顯慈愛的翎毛和羽毛嗎?
39:14
Quando derelinquit ova sua in terra, tu forsitan in pulvere calefacies ea ?
For she leaves her eggs on the earth, warms them in the dust,
因牠把蛋留在地上, 在塵土中使得溫暖;
39:15
Obliviscitur quod pes conculcet ea, aut bestia agri conterat.
and forgets that the foot may crush them, or that the wild animal may trample them.
卻想不到被腳踹碎, 或被野獸踐踏。
39:16
Duratur ad filios suos, quasi non sint sui : frustra laboravit, nullo timore cogente.
She deals harshly with her young ones, as if they were not hers. Though her labor is in vain, she is without fear,
牠忍心待雛,似乎不是自己的; 雖然徒受勞苦,也不為雛懼怕;
39:17
Privavit enim eam Deus sapientia, nec dedit illi intelligentiam.
because God has deprived her of wisdom, neither has he imparted to her understanding.
因為上帝使牠沒有智慧, 也未將悟性賜給牠。
39:18
Cum tempus fuerit, in altum alas erigit : deridet equum et ascensorem ejus.
When she lifts up herself on high, she scorns the horse and his rider.
牠幾時挺身展開翅膀, 就嗤笑馬和騎馬的人。
39:19
Numquid praebebis equo fortitudinem, aut circumdabis collo ejus hinnitum ?
“Have you given the horse might? Have you clothed his neck with a quivering mane?
馬的大力是你所賜的嗎? 牠頸項上挓挲的誃是你給牠披上的嗎?
39:20
Numquid suscitabis eum quasi locustas ? gloria narium ejus terror.
Have you made him to leap as a locust? The glory of his snorting is awesome.
是你叫牠跳躍像蝗蟲嗎? 牠噴氣之威使人驚惶。
39:21
Terram ungula fodit ; exultat audacter : in occursum pergit armatis.
He paws in the valley, and rejoices in his strength. He goes out to meet the armed men.
牠在谷中刨地,自喜其力; 牠出去迎接佩帶兵器的人。
39:22
Contemnit pavorem, nec cedit gladio.
He mocks at fear, and is not dismayed, neither does he turn back from the sword.
牠嗤笑可怕的事並不驚惶, 也不因刀劍退回。
39:23
Super ipsum sonabit pharetra ; vibrabit hasta et clypeus :
The quiver rattles against him, the flashing spear and the javelin.
箭袋和發亮的槍, 並短槍在牠身上錚錚有聲。
39:24
fervens et fremens sorbet terram, nec reputat tubae sonare clangorem.
He eats up the ground with fierceness and rage, neither does he stand still at the sound of the trumpet.
牠發猛烈的怒氣將地吞下; 一聽角聲就不耐站立。
39:25
Ubi audierit buccinam, dicit : Vah ! procul odoratur bellum : exhortationem ducum, et ululatum exercitus.
As often as the trumpet sounds he snorts, ‘Aha!’ He smells the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
角每發聲,牠說呵哈; 牠從遠處聞着戰氣, 又聽見軍長大發雷聲和兵丁吶喊。
39:26
Numquid per sapientiam tuam plumescit accipiter, expandens alas suas ad austrum ?
“Is it by your wisdom that the hawk soars, and stretches her wings toward the south?
鷹雀飛翔,展開翅膀一直向南, 豈是藉你的智慧嗎?
39:27
Numquid ad praeceptum tuum elevabitur aquila, et in arduis ponet nidum suum ?
Is it at your command that the eagle mounts up, and makes his nest on high?
大鷹上騰在高處搭窩, 豈是聽你的吩咐嗎?
39:28
In petris manet, et in praeruptis silicibus commoratur, atque inaccessis rupibus.
On the cliff he dwells and makes his home, on the point of the cliff and the stronghold.
牠住在山巖, 以山峰和堅固之所為家,

Inde contemplatur escam, et de longe oculi ejus prospiciunt.
From there he spies out the prey. His eyes see it afar off.
從那裏窺看食物, 眼睛遠遠觀望。

Pulli ejus lambent sanguinem : et ubicumque cadaver fuerit, statim adest.
His young ones also suck up blood. Where the slain are, there he is.”

Et adjecit Dominus, et locutus est ad Job :
