Let the pine wail, for the cedar has fallen, because the great ones have been greatly ruined. Wail, oaks of Bashan, for the thick forest has been pulled down.
Those who acquired them slaughtered them and felt no remorse; and those who sold them said, Blessed be the Lord, and we have grown rich. And their shepherds felt nothing at all for them.
Therefore I will no longer spare the inhabitants of the land, says the Lord. And behold, I am handing over the people, each into the hands of his neighbor and into the hands of his king; and they will cut down the land, and I will not rescue out of their hand.

For behold, I am raising up a shepherd over the land: the one that is failing he will not visit, and the scattered he will not seek, and the crushed he will not heal, and the sound one he will not set straight; but he will devour the flesh of the choice ones and will wrench off their ankle bones.
Oh, you who shepherd worthless things and have forsaken the sheep! A sword upon his arms and upon his right eye! His arm will utterly wither, and his right eye will be utterly blinded.
