29:1
Viro qui corripientem dura cervice contemnit, repentinus ei superveniet interitus, et eum sanitas non sequetur.
He who is often rebuked and stiffens his neck will be destroyed suddenly, with no remedy.
人屢次受責罰，仍然硬着頸項； 他必頃刻敗壞，無法可治。
29:2
In multiplicatione justorum laetabitur vulgus ; cum impii sumpserint principatum, gemet populus.
When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan.
義人增多，民就喜樂； 惡人掌權，民就歎息。
29:3
Vir qui amat sapientiam laetificat patrem suum ; qui autem nutrit scorta perdet substantiam.
Whoever loves wisdom brings joy to his father; but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth.
愛慕智慧的，使父親喜樂； 與妓女結交的，卻浪費錢財。
29:4
Rex justus erigit terram ; vir avarus destruet eam.
The king by justice makes the land stable, but he who takes bribes tears it down.
王藉公平，使國堅定； 索要賄賂，使國傾敗。
29:5
Homo qui blandis fictisque sermonibus loquitur amico suo rete expandit gressibus ejus.
A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet.
諂媚鄰舍的， 就是設網羅絆他的腳。
29:6
Peccantem virum iniquum involvet laqueus, et justus laudabit atque gaudebit.
An evil man is snared by his sin, but the righteous can sing and be glad.
惡人犯罪，自陷網羅； 惟獨義人歡呼喜樂。
29:7
Novit justus causam pauperum ; impius ignorat scientiam.
The righteous care about justice for the poor. The wicked aren’t concerned about knowledge.
義人知道查明窮人的案； 惡人沒有聰明，就不得而知。
29:8
Homines pestilentes dissipant civitatem ; sapientes vero avertunt furorem.
Mockers stir up a city, but wise men turn away anger.
褻慢人煽惑通城； 智慧人止息眾怒。
29:9
Vir sapiens si cum stulto contenderit, sive irascatur, sive rideat, non inveniet requiem.
If a wise man goes to court with a foolish man, the fool rages or scoffs, and there is no peace.
智慧人與愚妄人相爭， 或怒或笑，總不能使他止息。
29:10
Viri sanguinum oderunt simplicem ; justi autem quaerunt animam ejus.
The bloodthirsty hate a man of integrity; and they seek the life of the upright.
好流人血的，恨惡完全人， 索取正直人的性命。
29:11
Totum spiritum suum profert stultus ; sapiens differt, et reservat in posterum.
A fool vents all of his anger, but a wise man brings himself under control.
愚妄人怒氣全發； 智慧人忍氣含怒。
29:12
Princeps qui libenter audit verba mendacii, omnes ministros habet impios.
If a ruler listens to lies, all of his officials are wicked.
君王若聽謊言， 他一切臣僕都是奸惡。
29:13
Pauper et creditor obviaverunt sibi : utriusque illuminator est Dominus.
The poor man and the oppressor have this in common: Yahweh gives sight to the eyes of both.
貧窮人、強暴人在世相遇； 他們的眼目都蒙耶和華光照。
29:14
Rex qui judicat in veritate pauperes, thronus ejus in aeternum firmabitur.
The king who fairly judges the poor, his throne shall be established forever.
君王憑誠實判斷窮人； 他的國位必永遠堅立。
29:15
Virga atque correptio tribuit sapientiam ; puer autem qui dimittitur voluntati suae confundit matrem suam.
The rod of correction gives wisdom, but a child left to himself causes shame to his mother.
杖打和責備能加增智慧； 放縱的兒子使母親羞愧。
29:16
In multiplicatione impiorum multiplicabuntur scelera, et justi ruinas eorum videbunt.
When the wicked increase, sin increases; but the righteous will see their downfall.
惡人加多，過犯也加多， 義人必看見他們跌倒。
29:17
Erudi filium tuum, et refrigerabit te, et dabit delicias animae tuae.
Correct your son, and he will give you peace; yes, he will bring delight to your soul.
管教你的兒子，他就使你得安息， 也必使你心裏喜樂。
29:18
Cum prophetia defecerit, dissipabitur populus ; qui vero custodit legem beatus est.
Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed.
沒有異象 ，民就放肆； 惟遵守律法的，便為有福。
29:19
Servus verbis non potest erudiri, quia quod dicis intelligit, et respondere contemnit.
A servant can’t be corrected by words. Though he understands, yet he will not respond.
只用言語，僕人不肯受管教； 他雖然明白，也不留意。
29:20
Vidisti hominem velocem ad loquendum ? stultitia magis speranda est quam illius correptio.
Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.
你見言語急躁的人嗎？ 愚昧人比他更有指望。
29:21
Qui delicate a pueritia nutrit servum suum postea sentiet eum contumacem.
He who pampers his servant from youth will have him become a son in the end.
人將僕人從小嬌養， 這僕人終久必成了他的兒子。
29:22
Vir iracundus provocat rixas, et qui ad indignandum facilis est erit ad peccandum proclivior.
An angry man stirs up strife, and a wrathful man abounds in sin.
好氣的人挑啟爭端； 暴怒的人多多犯罪。
29:23
Superbum sequitur humilitas, et humilem spiritu suscipiet gloria.
A man’s pride brings him low, but one of lowly spirit gains honor.
人的高傲必使他卑下； 心裏謙遜的，必得尊榮。
29:24
Qui cum fure participat odit animam suam ; adjurantem audit, et non indicat.
Whoever is an accomplice of a thief is an enemy of his own soul. He takes an oath, but dares not testify.
人與盜賊分贓，是恨惡自己的性命； 他聽見叫人發誓的聲音，卻不言語。
29:25
Qui timet hominem cito corruet ; qui sperat in Domino sublevabitur.
The fear of man proves to be a snare, but whoever puts his trust in Yahweh is kept safe.
懼怕人的，陷入網羅； 惟有倚靠耶和華的，必得安穩。
29:26
Multi requirunt faciem principis, et judicium a Domino egreditur singulorum.
Many seek the ruler’s favor, but a man’s justice comes from Yahweh.
求王恩的人多； 定人事乃在耶和華。
29:27
Abominantur justi virum impium, et abominantur impii eos qui in recta sunt via. Verbum custodiens filius extra perditionem erit.
A dishonest man detests the righteous, and the upright in their ways detest the wicked.
為非作歹的，被義人憎嫌； 行事正直的，被惡人憎惡。
