Joas was a son of seven years when he began to reign.

In the seventh year of Jou, Joas began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Abia, of Bersabee.

And Joas did what was right before the Lord all the days that Jodae the priest enlightened him.

Only the high places were not removed, and the people still sacrificed there and burned incense on the high places.

And Joas said to the priests, 'All the silver of the holy things that is brought into the house of the Lord, the silver of valuation, each man's silver taken by valuation, all the silver that may come upon a man's heart to bring into the house of the Lord—

let the priests take for themselves, each from his own sale; and they shall repair the bedek of the house, in every place where bedek may be found there.'

And it came to pass in the twenty-third year of King Joas, the priests had not repaired the bedek of the house.

And Joas the king called Jodae the priest and the priests, and said to them, 'Why do you not repair the bedek of the house? And now, do not take silver from your sales, for you shall give it for the bedek of the house.'

And the priests agreed not to take silver from the people and not to strengthen the bedek of the house.

And Jodae the priest took one chest and bored a hole in its board, and set it beside iamibin in the house of the man of the house of the Lord; and the priests who kept the threshold put in all the silver that was found in the house of the Lord.

And it came to pass, when they saw that there was much silver in the chest, the king's scribe and the high priest went up and tied it up and counted the silver that was found in the house of the Lord.

And they gave the silver that had been prepared into the hands of those doing the works, the overseers of the house of the Lord; and they paid it out to the carpenters of wood and to the builders who work in the house of the Lord,

and to the wall-builders and to the hewers of stones, to buy timber and hewn stones to hold the bedek of the house of the Lord, for all that was expended upon the house to strengthen it.

Only there shall not be made for the house of the Lord silver doors, nails, bowls, or trumpets, any vessel of gold or vessel of silver, out of the silver that was brought into the house of the Lord.

For they shall give it to those who do the works; and with it they strengthened the house of the Lord.

And they did not reckon with the men into whose hands they gave the silver to give to those who do the works, because they act in faithfulness.

Silver for sin and silver for trespass, whatever was brought into the house of the Lord, became the priests'.

Then Azael king of Syria went up and fought against Geth and took it first; and Azael set his face to go up against Jerusalem.

And Joas king of Juda took all the holy things that Josaphat and Joram and Ochozias his fathers and the kings of Juda had sanctified, and his own holy things, and all the gold that was found in the treasuries of the house of the Lord and of the king's house, and he sent them to Azael king of Syria; and he went up away from Jerusalem.

And the rest of the acts of Joas, and all that he did—behold, are these not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Juda?

And his servants rose up and bound together every conspiracy, and they struck Joas in the house of Mallo which is in Gaalla.

And Iezichar son of Iemouath, and Iezebouth his son, Somer, his servants, struck him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David; and Amessias his son reigned in his place.
