ℹ️ This corpus has no verse-level morphological tagging. Lemmas come mainly from word-level tagging of other books in the same language (not from this verse), falling back to dictionary form-matching for the rest. Rare homographs can still be misread; verify against the original and a specialist lexicon where precision matters.

When Trajan had held the rule for a full twenty years less six months, Aelius Hadrian succeeded to the sovereignty. To him Quadratus addressed and delivered a discourse, having composed a defence on behalf of our religion, because certain wicked men were attempting to harass our people. The treatise is still extant among very many of the brethren, and indeed with us also, and from it one can perceive clear proofs both of the man's understanding and of his apostolic orthodoxy.
He himself reveals his own antiquity by what he relates in his own words thus: 「The works of our Saviour were always present, for they were true: those who were healed, those who rose from the dead, who were not merely seen while being healed and raised, but were ever present—not only while the Saviour was sojourning here, but also after his departure they remained for a considerable time, so that some of them survived even to our own days.」
Such, then, was this man. Aristides also, a faithful man devoted to our religion, like Quadratus left behind a defence of the faith which he addressed to Hadrian. His writing too is preserved to this day among very many.
