Non litiges cum homine potente , ne forte incidas in manus illius .
Contend not with a mighty man, Lest haply you fall into his hands.
不要與權貴爭鬥，免得你落在他的手中。
8:2▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Non contendas cum viro locuplete , ne forte contra te constituat litem tibi :
Strive not with a rich man, lest haply he overweigh you: For gold has destroyed many, And turned away the hearts of kings.
不要與富人相爭，免得他以財勢壓倒你；因為金子毀滅了許多人，也使君王的心偏離。

multos enim perdidit aurum et argentum , et usque ad cor regum extendit et convertit .
Contend not with a man that is full of tongue, And heap not wood upon his fire.
不要與多言的人爭辯，也不要往他的火上添柴。

Non litiges cum homine linguato , et non strues in ignem illius ligna .
Jest not with a rude man, Lest your ancestors be dishonored.
不要與無學識的人戲謔，免得你的祖先受辱。

Non communices homini indocto , ne male de progenie tua loquatur .
Reproach not a man when he turns from sin: Remember that we are all worthy of punishment.
當人從罪中回轉時，不要羞辱他；要記得我們都是該受刑罰的。

Ne despicias hominem avertentem se a peccato , neque improperes ei : memento quoniam omnes in correptione sumus .
Dishonour not a man in his old age; For some of us also are waxing old.
不要羞辱年老的人，因為我們中間也有人正在變老。

Ne spernas hominem in sua senectute , etenim ex nobis senescunt .
Rejoice not over one that is dead: Remember that we die all.
不要因人死了就幸災樂禍，要記得我們眾人都要死亡。

Noli de mortuo inimico tuo gaudere : sciens quoniam omnes morimur , et in gaudium nolumus venire .
Neglect not the discourse of the wise, And be conversant with their proverbs; For of them you will learn instruction, And how to minister to great men.
不要忽略智慧人的言論，要常思想他們的箴言；因為你從他們可學得教誨，並學會如何服事權貴。

Ne despicias narrationem presbyterorum sapientium , et in proverbiis eorum conversare :
Miss not the discourse of the aged; For they also learned of their fathers: Because from them you will learn understanding, And to give answer in time of need.
不要錯過老人的話語，因為他們也是從他們的先祖學來的；你從他們可學得見識，並在需要時懂得如何回答。

ab ipsis enim disces sapientiam et doctrinam intellectus , et servire magnatis sine querela .
Kindle not the coals of a sinner, Lest you be burned with the flame of his fire.
不要去煽動罪人的炭火，免得你被他烈焰的火燒著。

Non te prætereat narratio seniorum , ipsi enim didicerunt a patribus suis :
Rise not up from the presence of an insolent man, Lest he lie in wait as an ambush for your mouth.
不要從狂傲人面前起身離去，免得他像埋伏一樣窺伺你的口。

quoniam ab ipsis disces intellectum , et in tempore necessitatis dare responsum .
Lend not to a man that is mightier than yourself; And if you lend, be as one that has lost.
不要借貸給比你強盛的人；你若借了，就當看作已經損失了。
8:13▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Non incendas carbones peccatorum arguens eos , et ne incendaris flamma ignis peccatorum illorum .
Be not surety above your power: And if you be surety, take thought as one that will have to pay.
不要作超過你能力的擔保人；你若作了擔保，就當預備如同必須償還一般。

Ne contra faciem stes contumeliosi , ne sedeat quasi insidiator ori tuo .
Go not to law with a judge; For according to his honor will they give judgement for him.
不要與審判官對簿公堂，因為他們會按他的尊位偏袒他作判決。

Noli fœnerari homini fortiori te : quod si fœneraveris , quasi perditum habe .
Go not in the way with a rash man, Lest he be aggrieved with you; For he will do according to his own will, And you will perish with his folly.
不要與魯莽的人同行於路，免得他連累你；因為他必任意而行，你也必與他的愚妄一同滅亡。

Non spondeas super virtutem tuam : quod si spoponderis , quasi restituens cogita .
Fight not with a wrathful man, And travel not with him through the desert: For blood is as nothing in his sight; And where there is no help, he will overthrow you.
不要與暴怒的人爭鬥，也不要與他同行於曠野；因為在他眼中流血如同無物，在無人相助之處，他必把你擊倒。
8:17▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Non judices contra judicem , quoniam secundum quod justum est judicat .
Take not counsel with a fool; For he will not be able to conceal the matter.
不要與愚人商議，因為他不能隱藏所說的話。
8:18▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Cum audace non eas in via , ne forte gravet mala sua in te : ipse enim secundum voluntatem suam vadit , et simul cum stultitia illius peries .
Do no secret thing before a stranger; For you know not what he will bring forth.
不要在外人面前行隱密的事，因為你不知道他會招出什麼來。

Cum iracundo non facias rixam , et cum audace non eas in desertum : quoniam quasi nihil est ante illum sanguis , et ubi non est adjutorium , elidet te .
Open not your heart to every man; And let him not return you a favor.
不要向每個人敞開你的心，免得他不以恩惠回報你。
