Exodus 28

And you, bring near to yourself Aaron your brother and his sons from among the sons of Israel, to serve me as priests: Aaron and Nadab and Abiud and Eleazar and Ithamar, sons of Aaron.

And you shall make a holy robe for Aaron your brother, for honour and glory.

And you, speak to all who are wise in mind, whom I have filled with a spirit of perception; and they shall make the holy robe for Aaron, for the sanctuary, in which he shall serve me as priest.

And these are the vestments which they shall make: the breastpiece, and the ephod, and the long robe reaching to the feet, and a fringed tunic, and a turban, and a sash; and they shall make holy vestments for Aaron and for his sons, to serve me as priests.

And they themselves shall take the gold, and the blue, and the purple, and the scarlet, and the fine linen.

And they shall make the ephod of twined fine linen, a woven work of an embroiderer.

It shall have two shoulder-pieces holding together, the one to the other, fastened at the two sides.

And the woven work of the shoulder-pieces, which is upon it, shall be of one piece with it according to its making, of gold and blue and purple and spun scarlet and twined fine linen.

And you shall take the two stones, stones of emerald, and you shall engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel.

Six names on the one stone, and the six remaining names on the second stone, according to their generations.

With the work of the stonecutter's art, as the engraving of a seal, you shall engrave the two stones with the names of the sons of Israel.

And you shall put the two stones upon the shoulders of the ephod; they are stones of memorial for the sons of Israel. And Aaron shall bear up the names of the sons of Israel before the Lord upon his two shoulders, a memorial concerning them.

And you shall make bosses of pure gold.

And you shall make two fringes of pure gold, intermingled with flowers, a work of plaiting; and you shall put the plaited fringes upon the bosses, at their shoulder-pieces, on the front sides.

And you shall make an oracle of judgments, the work of an embroiderer; according to the proportion of the ephod you shall make it, of gold and blue and purple and twined scarlet and twined fine linen you shall make it.

It shall be square and doubled; a span its length and a span its breadth.

And you shall weave into it a setting of stones in four rows. A row of stones shall be sardius, topaz, and emerald — this is the first row.

And the second row: carbuncle, sapphire, and jasper.

And the third row: ligure, agate, and amethyst.

And the fourth row: chrysolite, beryl, and onyx. They shall be encased with gold, bound together in gold, according to their row.

And the stones shall be according to the names of the sons of Israel, twelve according to their names; engravings of seals, each according to its name, they shall be for the twelve tribes.

And you shall make upon the oracle plaited fringes, chainwork of pure gold.

And Aaron shall take the names of the sons of Israel upon the oracle of judgment, upon his breast, as he enters into the holy place, a memorial before God. And you shall put upon the oracle of judgment the fringes; the chainwork you shall put on both sides of the oracle, and the two bosses you shall put upon both shoulders of the ephod, at the front.

And you shall put upon the oracle of judgment the Manifestation and the Truth; and it shall be upon Aaron's breast whenever he enters into the holy place before the Lord. And Aaron shall bear the judgments of the sons of Israel upon his breast before the Lord continually.

And you shall make an under-robe reaching to the feet, wholly of blue.

And the opening for the head shall be of the same piece, in the middle, having a border round about the opening, the work of a weaver, the joining woven together out of it, so that it be not torn.

And on the hem of the under-robe below you shall make pomegranate-shapes, as of a blossoming pomegranate, of blue and purple and spun scarlet and twined fine linen, on the hem of the under-robe round about; and of the same form, golden pomegranate-shapes and bells between them all around.

Beside a golden pomegranate-shape a bell and a flower-work, on the hem of the under-robe round about.

And it shall be for Aaron when he ministers: his sound shall be heard as he enters into the holy place before the Lord, and as he goes out, that he die not.

And you shall make a plate of pure gold, and you shall emboss on it the impress of a seal: a consecrated thing of the Lord.

And you shall put it upon twined blue, and it shall be upon the mitre; at the front of the mitre it shall be.

And it shall be upon Aaron's forehead, and Aaron shall take away the sins of the holy things, whatever the sons of Israel shall consecrate, of every gift of their holy things; and it shall be upon Aaron's forehead continually, acceptable for them before the Lord.

And the fringes of the tunics shall be of fine linen; and you shall make a turban of fine linen, and a sash you shall make, the work of an embroiderer.

And for the sons of Aaron you shall make tunics and sashes, and turbans you shall make for them, for honour and glory.

And you shall clothe with them Aaron your brother, and his sons with him; and you shall anoint them, and fill their hands, and consecrate them, that they may serve me as priests.

And you shall make for them linen drawers to cover the shame of their flesh; from the loins to the thighs they shall reach.

And Aaron and his sons shall wear them whenever they enter into the tent of witness, or whenever they approach to minister at the altar of the holy place; and they shall not bring sin upon themselves, that they die not: a perpetual ordinance for him and for his seed after him.
