2 Chronicles 20

And after this the sons of Moab and the sons of Ammon came, and with them some of the Minaeans, against Jehoshaphat to battle.

And they came and reported to Jehoshaphat, saying, "A great multitude has come against you from beyond the sea, from Syria; and behold, they are in Asasanthamar, which is Engaddi."

And he was afraid, and Jehoshaphat set his face to seek the Lord, and he proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.

And Judah gathered together to seek the Lord; and from all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord.

And Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah in Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord, before the new court,

and said, "O Lord, God of our fathers, are you not God in heaven? And do you not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations? And in your hand is the strength of dominion, and there is none able to stand against you.

Are you not the Lord who destroyed the inhabitants of this land from before your people Israel, and gave it to the seed of Abraham your beloved for ever?

And they dwelt in it, and built in it a sanctuary to your name, saying,

'If evil comes upon us — sword, judgment, death, famine — we will stand before this house and before you, for your name is upon this house; and we will cry to you out of our affliction, and you will hear and save.'

And now, behold, the sons of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir, through whom you did not allow Israel to pass when they came out of the land of Egypt — for they turned aside from them and did not destroy them —

behold, they now are attempting to come out against us, to cast us out from our inheritance which you gave us.

O Lord our God, will you not judge them? For we have no strength to stand against this great multitude that has come against us; and we do not know what we should do to them, but our eyes are upon you."

And all Judah stood before the Lord, with their little ones and their wives.

And upon Oziel the son of Zacharias, of the sons of Banaias, of the sons of Eleel, of Manthanias the Levite, from the sons of Asaph — upon him came the Spirit of the Lord in the assembly.

And he said, "Hear, all Judah and you who dwell in Jerusalem, and King Jehoshaphat: Thus says the Lord to you: Do not fear nor be dismayed before this great multitude, for the battle array is not yours but God's.

Tomorrow go down against them. Behold, they are coming up by the ascent of Asas, and you shall find them at the end of the river of the wilderness of Jeriel.

It is not for you to fight these things; understand and see the salvation of the Lord that is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not fear nor be dismayed; tomorrow go out to meet them, and the Lord is with you."

And Jehoshaphat bowed with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before the Lord to worship the Lord.

And the Levites, of the sons of Kaath and of the sons of Kore, rose up to praise the Lord God of Israel with a loud voice, on high.

And they rose early in the morning and went out into the wilderness of Thekoe; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and cried out and said, "Hear me, O Judah and you who dwell in Jerusalem: trust in the Lord your God, and you shall be trusted; trust in his prophet, and you shall prosper."

And he took counsel with the people, and he appointed singers and those who praise, to give thanks and to praise the holy things as they went out before the army; and they said, "Give thanks to the Lord, for his mercy endures for ever."

And when they began his praise and thanksgiving, the Lord set the sons of Ammon to fight against Moab and Mount Seir, who had come out against Judah; and they were routed.

And the sons of Ammon and Moab rose up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir, to destroy and utterly wipe them out; and when they had finished off the inhabitants of Seir, they rose up against one another to be destroyed.

And Judah came to the watchtower of the wilderness, and looked out and saw the multitude; and behold, they were all dead, fallen upon the ground — there was none that escaped.

And Jehoshaphat and his people came to plunder their spoils, and they found much cattle and baggage and spoils and desirable vessels, and they plundered for themselves; and they were three days plundering the spoils, for it was much.

And on the fourth day they assembled in the valley of blessing, for there they blessed the Lord; therefore they called the name of that place "Valley of Blessing," to this day.

And every man of Judah returned to Jerusalem, with Jehoshaphat leading them, with great gladness, for the Lord had made them glad over their enemies.

And they came into Jerusalem with nablas and with lyres and with trumpets, to the house of the Lord.

And a terror from the Lord came upon all the kingdoms of the earth when they heard that the Lord had fought against the adversaries of Israel.

And the kingdom of Jehoshaphat was at peace, and his God gave him rest round about.

And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah; he was thirty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Azouba, daughter of Sali.

And he walked in the ways of Asa his father, and did not turn aside from doing what was right before the Lord.

But the high places still remained, and the people had not yet set their heart toward the Lord God of their fathers.

And the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, the first and the last, behold, they are written in the words of Jehu the son of Hanani, who wrote the book of the kings of Israel.

And after this Jehoshaphat king of Judah joined himself with Ahaziah king of Israel; and this man acted lawlessly.

in that he went to him to make ships to go to Tharsis; and he made ships at Gasiongaber.

And Eliezer the son of Dodias of Marisa prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, "Because you have made friendship with Ahaziah, the Lord has shattered your work"; and his ships were wrecked, and it was not able to go to Tharsis.
