As for me, my heart grieves and is troubled and is sorely pained because of the Jews and the Samaritans and the Pharisees and the Sadducees, who do not believe in the resurrection of the dead. The Jews say: Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die, and there is nothing we shall see beyond.

And the Samaritans say: As for our flesh, it shall not rise, for it becomes dust.

And if there is a resurrection, we believe in the resurrection of our souls; for the soul, though the flesh die, does not die, for it is like the wind which is not seen, and like the sound of thunder, of which men cannot say, 'Lo, here it is,' for it does not appear.

But our flesh is seen by all, and becomes ashes and dust; for the beasts devour it, and the worms also devour it in the grave.

And those creatures which devoured it themselves become ashes, and no trace of them is found; for they become like grass, and become ashes as though they had never been formed.

And in that day shall the bodies that decayed be found again. And thus say the Pharisees: We do believe in the resurrection of the dead; yet He shall clothe the souls in heaven with another body, which is not that of the earth.

And thus say the Sadducees: From the time our soul departs from our flesh, we shall not rise from the dead; and there is no resurrection of the dead for them, neither for soul nor for body; and when we die, we shall not rise.

And because of this they greatly err, and it troubles me on their account, for they speak blasphemy against the Lord and against His glory.

And they have no hope of salvation, for they did not believe in the Lord who justifies them; and indeed they have no hope of salvation or of the resurrection of the dead.

O blind Jew, do you exalt yourself against the Lord, who brought you forth out of nothing, and who, while you were a drop, made you a man? Will the One who sowed you despise you, who caused your soul and your body to grow up in His own image and likeness?

And do not reckon thus, for you shall not escape out of the hand of the Lord; you shall rise even though you believe not, and you shall be judged even though you consent not; for there is a cord of Sheol upon your neck, by which you are held, from the day of your death.

For in your mother's womb there sprouts up for you, from the root of Sheol, that cord which they place upon your neck; and when you grow up, it likewise grows up.

And when you die, they cast it upon your neck; and when they draw it by its root, it brings them in.

And it draws in its branches; for all the wicked are held within it, even as there are cords upon their necks.

And it brings all the souls of the wicked from where they are, from the ends of heaven; and so your cord draws you, to bring your soul from where you are, and to return you into the river of Sheol.

And your flesh also, being restored and growing seven times, even as the flesh of our father Adam, the dew of the mercy of the Lord shall raise you up; and there you shall be requited according as you, His servant, transgressed and sinned in your unbelief.

And let it not seem to you that you deceive another and are yourself deceived, you who dwell in the grave in your error and say, 'There is no resurrection of the dead,' that men may err from the commandment of the Lord.

And who shall leave you in the ashes and dust, but rather raise you up to requite you according to your deeds which you have done?

And then there shall come—whether that which is in the winds, your spirits, or that which is in the earth, your dust, or that which is in the fire, your flame.

And likewise the breath of life which was breathed upon you, in the court of darkness.

That which is shut up; but the souls of the righteous are shut up in the garden in joy.

But you, O Jew and Samaritan and Pharisee and Sadducee, shall be shut up in darkness until the time of your judgment.

And then you shall see how the Lord requites you according to your deeds, because of those whom you led astray.

And you said to them: The dead do not live; let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die; and you say in your folly, while you sit upon the seat of Moses: There is no resurrection of the dead.

And because of this you have erred, while you know the book of the Law and teach the word of the Scriptures; and you have misled men, who would have been better off had you not taught them and they had not known.

By the word of the Scriptures you led astray the people of the Lord, by your evil teaching and by your word that profits not.

And you shall be requited according to your deeds and according to the fruit of your lips, for the Lord is no respecter of persons; and those who teach what is good, He shall reward with the good things prepared for those who love Him.

But you have nowhere to escape from the hand of Him who judges you, and He shall requite you according to your deeds; for you and those whom you taught shall be judged together.

I know that the dead shall rise; even those who kept His commandment shall rise, and it shall not be difficult for them to stand up, for His commandment brings them forth—even as the earth brings forth grass when the rain beats upon it.

And as the moist tree puts forth its leaves when the rain waters the earth; and as it bears the fruit of wheat or the ear of grain, and it cannot be hindered from putting forth its fruit, when the Lord is pleased.

And as a woman with child, when her pains come upon her, cannot keep her womb closed; even so the earth, when it has heard the word of the Lord, cannot keep its womb closed, but brings them forth in that moment, for the dew that comes from the Lord descends upon it.

And likewise the earth shall bring forth, in the day they are gathered to it; it cannot keep its womb closed, when it has heard the word of the Lord, but brings them forth in that moment, for the dew that comes from the Lord descends upon it.

And the bodies shall be gathered to their places, where their corpses fell; and the storehouses of souls shall be opened, and the souls shall return into the bodies from which they went forth at the first.

And at the blowing of the trumpet the dead shall rise, as in the twinkling of an eye, and they shall stand before the Lord, and He shall requite them according to the work of their hands.

Then you shall see that you rise from the dead, and you shall be confounded in all your deeds which you did upon the earth; and when you see them written before your eyes, in that day you shall repent where it profits you not.

And know that you shall rise from the dead and be requited according to your deeds which you have done.
