He said to me: Take away from yourself double-mindedness, and do not be at all double-minded about asking anything from God, saying within yourself: How can I ask anything of the Lord and receive it, having sinned so much against him?
Do not reason thus, but turn to the Lord with all your heart and ask of him without doubting, and you shall know his great mercy, that he will surely not abandon you, but will fulfill the request of your soul.
So cleanse your heart from all the vanities of this age and from the words spoken to you before, and ask of the Lord, and you shall receive all things, and shall lack nothing of all your requests, if you ask of the Lord without doubting.
But if you doubt in your heart, you shall surely receive none of your requests. For those who doubt toward God, these are the double-minded, and they obtain absolutely nothing of their requests.
But those who are entire in the faith ask all things trusting in the Lord, and they receive, because they ask without doubting, in no way double-minded. For every double-minded man, unless he repents, shall hardly be saved.
Cleanse your heart, then, from double-mindedness, and put on faith, because it is strong, and trust God that you shall receive all your requests which you ask; and if, after asking the Lord for some request, you receive it rather slowly, do not be double-minded because you did not quickly receive the request of your soul; for it is altogether on account of some trial or some transgression, of which you are unaware, that you receive your request more slowly.
So do not cease asking the request of your soul, and you shall receive it; but if you grow weary and become double-minded in your asking, blame yourself and not the One who gives to you.
Look to this double-mindedness; for it is wicked and senseless and uproots many from the faith, even those very faithful and strong. For this double-mindedness is a daughter of the devil and works great wickedness against the servants of God.
Despise double-mindedness, then, and master it in every matter, putting on the strong and powerful faith; for faith promises all things, perfects all things, but double-mindedness, not trusting in itself, fails in all the works which it undertakes.
You see, then, he said, that faith is from above, from the Lord, and has great power; but double-mindedness is an earthly spirit from the devil, having no power.
Serve, then, faith, which has power, and keep away from double-mindedness, which has no power, and you shall live to God; and all who think thus shall live to God.
