~278~ At that time after the death of Joshua and the rest of the Canaanites in the land, all Israel said to inherit them. And the children of Israel asked God to say, "Who will go up to the Canaanite for us first to fight him, and God said, Judah will go up. And the sons of Judah said to the sons of Shimon, come with us in our lot and fight with the Canaanites, and we also went with you in your lot, and the sons of Simeon went with the sons of Judah. And the children of Judah went up and fought against the Canaanites, and God gave the Canaanites into the hands of the children of Judah and they defeated ten thousand men in a flash. And they fought the lord of Bezek with Bezek Vines before them, and they chased after him and caught him and took him and cut off his toes and feet. And my lord Bezek said, Seventy kings cut off their toes and their feet gather under my table. When I did so, God paid me, and they brought him to Jerusalem and he died there. And the sons of Simeon went after the sons of Judah, and smote the Canaanites with the sword. And the Lord will be the sons of Judah, and they will inherit the inhabitants of the mountain. And Joseph's sons also went up to Bethel, and the Lord was with them. And Joseph's sons spied Bethel, and the guards saw a man coming out of the city. And they caught him and said to him, Please show us the entrance to the city and do you a favor. And that man raised up the entrance of the city, and the sons of Joseph came and struck the city with the sword. And the man and his family were sent, and he went to the Hittites and built a city and called its name Luz. And all Israel dwelt in their cities, and the children of Israel worshiped God all the days of Joshua and all the days of the elders who lived long after Joshua, who saw the great work God had done for Israel. And the elders judged Israel after the death of Joshua, seventeen years. And all the elders also fought the wars of Israel against the Canaanites, and God inherited the Canaanites from the children of Israel and Israel settled in their land. And he established all that he had spoken to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and all the oath that he had sworn to give them and their sons the land of Canaan. And the Lord gave the children of Israel all the land of Canaan as He swore to our fathers, and the Lord gave them all around and the children of Israel dwelt in all their cities safely.
