📖 This chapter exists in 3 other originals — side by side (Hebrew Old Testament, Vulgate, Ge'ez Bible)
ℹ️ This corpus has no verse-level morphological tagging. Lemmas come mainly from word-level tagging of other books in the same language (not from this verse), falling back to dictionary form-matching for the rest. Rare homographs can still be misread; verify against the original and a specialist lexicon where precision matters.
ℹ️ The Chinese and English alongside are this site's own translation, made directly from the original text on this page (not the CUV or the WEB, which follow the Masoretic Text and a different textual tradition).

22:1
Thus says the Lord: Go and go down to the house of the king of Iouda, and there you shall speak this word,
and you shall say: Hear the word of the Lord, O king of Iouda who sit upon the throne of Dauid—you and your house and your people and those who enter by these gates.
Thus says the Lord: Do justice and righteousness, and rescue the one plundered from the hand of the one wronging him; do not oppress the resident alien or the orphan or the widow, and do not act impiously, and do not shed innocent blood in this place.
For if you indeed do this word, then there shall enter by the gates of this house kings sitting upon the throne of Dauid, and mounted on chariots and horses—they and their servants and their people.
But if you do not do these words, I have sworn by myself, says the Lord, that this house shall become a desolation.
For thus says the Lord concerning the house of the king of Iouda: Galaad, you are to me the beginning of Lebanon; surely I will make you a wilderness, cities not to be inhabited.
And I will bring upon you a destroying man with his axe, and they shall cut down your choice cedars and throw them into the fire.
And nations shall pass through this city, and each will say to his neighbour: Why has the Lord done thus to this great city?
And they will say: Because they forsook the covenant of the Lord their God and did obeisance to other gods and served them.
Do not weep for the dead man, nor lament him; weep bitterly for the one going away, for he shall return no more, nor shall he ever see the land of his fathers.
For thus says the Lord concerning Sellem son of Iosias, who reigned in place of Iosias his father, who went out from this place: He shall not return there any more.
But in the place where I have removed him, there he shall die, and this land he shall see no more.
Woe to the one who builds his house not with righteousness and his upper rooms not with justice, who makes his neighbour work for nothing and will not give him his wages,
You built yourself a well-proportioned house with airy upper rooms, set off with windows, panelled with cedar and painted with vermilion.
Shall you reign because you vie with Achaz your father? They shall not eat and they shall not drink. It was better for you to do justice and good righteousness.
They did not know, they did not judge the cause of the lowly nor the cause of the poor. Is not this what it is not to know me? says the Lord.
Behold, your eyes are not, nor is your heart good, but they are set on your covetousness and on innocent blood, to shed it, and on wrongdoing and on murder, to do it.
Therefore thus says the Lord concerning Ioakim son of Iosias, king of Iouda: Woe to this man! They shall not beat their breasts for him, saying, Ah, brother! nor shall they weep for him, saying, Alas, lord!
He shall be buried with the burial of a donkey; dragged off, he shall be flung out beyond the gate of Ierousalem.
Go up to Lebanon and cry out, and in Basan lift up your voice, and shout from beyond the sea, for all your lovers have been crushed.
I spoke to you in your transgression, and you said: I will not listen. This has been your way from your youth: you have not listened to my voice.
The wind shall shepherd all your shepherds, and your lovers shall go out into captivity; then indeed you shall be ashamed and dishonoured because of all who love you.
You who dwell in Lebanon, who nest among the cedars, how you will groan when birth pangs come upon you, like a woman giving birth!
As I live, says the Lord, even if Iechonias son of Ioakim, king of Iouda, were a signet ring upon my right hand, from there I would tear you off,
and I will hand you over into the hands of those who seek your life, of those before whom you are in dread, into the hands of the Chaldeans.
And I will cast you out, and your mother who bore you, into a land where you were not born, and there you shall die.
But to the land to which they long in their souls to return, they shall never return.
Iechonias has been dishonoured like a vessel for which there is no use, for he has been flung away and cast out into a land which he did not know.
O land, land, hear the word of the Lord!
Write this man down as a man proscribed, for none of his offspring shall prosper, a man sitting upon the throne of Dauid and ruling any more in Iouda.
