Such, then, was the condition of the Jews. But the holy apostles and disciples of our Saviour were scattered over the whole inhabited world. Thomas, as tradition relates, was allotted Parthia; Andrew, Scythia; and John, Asia, where he resided and died at Ephesus.
Peter appears to have preached to the Jews of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Bithynia, Cappadocia, and Asia. At the last he came to Rome, where he was crucified head downwards, having himself requested to suffer in this way.
And what need be said of Paul, who from Jerusalem as far as Illyricum fulfilled the gospel of Christ, and afterwards was martyred at Rome under Nero? These things are stated word for word by Origen in the third volume of his commentaries on Genesis.
